Abstract:Introduction: Spanish-speaking individuals may experience language-based disparities related to elective orthopaedic procedures. Because patients often seek online health information, we assessed the readability, credibility, and quality of Spanish-language educational websites for knee arthroplasty. Methods: We queried "Google," "Yahoo," and "Bing" using the term "reemplazo de rodilla" (knee replacement in Spanish) and extracted the top 50 websites per search engine. Websites were categorized by information source (physician/community hospital, university/academic, other) and presence of HONcode certification. Information was assessed for readability (Fernández-Huerta formula), credibility (Journal of the American Medical Association benchmark criteria), and quality (Brief DISCERN tool); scores were compared between the categories. Results: A total of 77 unique websites were included (40.3% physician/community hospital, 35.1% university/academic). The median readability score was 59.4 (10th to 12th-grade reading level); no websites achieved the recommended level of ≤6th grade. The median Journal of the American Medical Association benchmark score was 2 (interquartile range 1 to 3), with only 7.8% of websites meeting all criteria. The median Brief DISCERN score was 16 (interquartile range 12 to 20), with 50.7% meeting the threshold for good quality. University/academic websites had better readability (P = 0.02) and credibility (P = 0.002) but similar quality (P > 0.05) compared with physician/community hospital websites. In addition, HONcode-certified websites had better quality scores (P = 0.045) but similar readability and credibility (P > 0.05) compared with noncertified websites. Discussion: We identified limitations in readability, credibility, and quality of Spanish-language online educational resources for knee arthroplasty. Healthcare providers should be aware of these patient education barriers when counseling patients, and efforts should be made to support the online information needs of Spanish-speaking orthopaedic patients and mitigate language-based disparities.
Lost in Translation: Multilingual Analysis of Online Breast Cancer Information

Abstract:Introduction: Patients use the internet to learn more about health conditions. Non-English-speaking patients may face additional challenges. The quality of online breast cancer information, the most common cancer in women, is uncertain. This study aims to examine the quality of online breast cancer information for English and non-English-speaking patients. Methods: Three search engines were queried using the terms: "how to do a breast examination," "when do I need a mammogram," and "what are the treatment options for breast cancer" in English, Spanish, and Chinese. For each language, 60 unique websites were included and classified by type and information source. Two language-fluent reviewers evaluated website quality using the Journal of American Medical Association benchmark criteria (0-4) and the DISCERN tool (1-5), with higher scores representing higher quality. Scores were averaged for each language. Health On the Net code presence was noted. Inter-rater reliability between reviewers was assessed. Results: English and Spanish websites most commonly originated from US sources (92% and 80%, respectively) compared to Chinese websites (33%, P < 0.001). The most common website type was hospital-affiliated for English (43%) and foundation/advocacy for Spanish and Chinese (43% and 45%, respectively). English websites had the highest and Chinese websites the lowest mean the Journal of American Medical Association (2.2 ± 1.4 versus 1.0 ± 0.8, P = 0.002) and DISCERN scores (3.5 ± 0.9 versus 2.3 ± 0.6, P < 0.001). Health On the Net code was present on 16 (8.9%) websites. Inter-rater reliability ranged from moderate to substantial agreement. Conclusions: The quality of online information on breast cancer across all three languages is poor. Information quality was poorest for Chinese websites. Improvements to enhance the reliability of breast cancer information across languages are needed.
Readability Level of Spanish Language Online Health Information: A Systematic Review

Abstract:Introduction: Because there is limited online health information in Spanish and it is critical to raise health literacy among Spanish-speaking people, it is essential to assess the readability level of Spanish material. Method: This systematic review included all articles published up to January 3, 2024, and used the CINAHL, MEDLINE, and PubMed databases. The objective was to include the body of knowledge on published articles on the readability levels of Spanish-language, web-based health information intended for lay audiences. Results: There were 27 articles in the final review. Within these articles, 11 tools were used in the Spanish language text. Of the tools, INFLESZ was the most frequently used and the FRY formula, Flesch-Szigriszt Index, and Flesch Formula Index were least used. Most materials (85.2%) reported readability levels of online Spanish information above the 8th grade reading level. Conclusions: The findings show the lack of internet-based Spanish language health information and materials at a recommended (e.g., 5th to 8th grade) reading level. More research is needed to determine which readability tests are more accurate for calculating the readability of Spanish web health information.

Abstract:Obesity is a risk factor that exponentially increases morbidity and mortality in the world. Today, new health strategies are being implemented based on the use of social media but the use and effectiveness for these interventions needs to be assessed. The objective of this systematic review is to assess the impact of social-media-delivered weight loss interventions among teenagers and young adults. We searched PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar, PsycINFO, and OVID to identify articles that focused on this topic. Fourteen studies were included in the final review. The commitment of the participants was found to be fundamental factor when assessing the impact of social-media-delivered weight loss interventions, but also the social context in which the interventions were carried out. Our study highlights the potential of social media platforms to address weight loss interventions among younger groups. The works evaluated showed the usefulness of social media for the adequate monitoring and control in these groups. Finally, the current variety of study designs in this field highlights the need for greater homogeneity in their methodology and applications, which is a fundamental step before these tools could be considered a suitable tool for overweight management in clinical practice.

Abstract:Background Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer-specific mortality in Hispanic women in the United States. Given the complexity of treatment options, disparities in access to quality care, and increased rates of inadequate or marginal health literacy within this population, these patients face significant barriers to informed decision-making. We aimed to assess the health literacy of Spanish breast cancer surgery websites. Methods A web search using "cirugía de cancer de mama or seno" was performed to identify the top 20 websites in Spanish, divided on the basis of affiliation with academic centers or private institutions and by international/US region. Validated metrics were used to assess readability, understandability, actionability, and cultural sensitivity using Simplified Measure of Gobbledygook in Spanish, Patient Education and Materials Assessment for Understandability and Actionability, and Cultural Sensitivity and Assessment Tool, respectively. Results Online materials in Spanish had a mean reading grade level of 10.9 (Simplified Measure of Gobbledygook in Spanish) for academic centers and 10.4 for private institutions. The average understandability score was significantly greater for academic centers at 77% compared with private institutions at 67% ( P = .019). Actionability scores were low for both centers at 26% and 37%, respectively. The mean Cultural Sensitivity and Assessment Tool scores were 2.3 and 2.2, respectively. Conclusion Current Spanish resources for breast cancer surgery are unfitting not only from a readability standpoint but also in their quality and cultural sensitivity. As the Latino population in the United States increases and online resources become more accessible, we must ensure that these resources cater to their target audience, bridging the health care access gap and empowering patients in decision-making.

Abstract:BACKGROUND: Recent research has shown that of the 72% of American Internet users who have looked for health information online, 22% have searched for help to lose or control weight. This demand for information has given rise to many online weight management communities, where users support one another throughout their weight loss process. Whether and how user engagement in online communities relates to weight change is not totally understood.OBJECTIVE: We investigated the activity behavior and analyze the semantic content of the messages of active users in LoseIt (r/loseit), a weight management community of the online social network Reddit. We then explored whether these features are associated with weight loss in this online social network.METHODS: A data collection tool was used to collect English posts, comments, and other public metadata of active users (ie, users with at least one post or comment) on LoseIt from August 2010 to November 2014. Analyses of frequency and intensity of user interaction in the community were performed together with a semantic analysis of the messages, done by a latent Dirichlet allocation method. The association between weight loss and online user activity patterns, the semantics of the messages, and real-world variables was found by a linear regression model using 30-day weight change as the dependent variable.RESULTS: We collected posts and comments of 107,886 unique users. Among these, 101,003 (93.62%) wrote at least one comment and 38,981 (36.13%) wrote at least one post. Median percentage of days online was 3.81 (IQR 9.51). The 10 most-discussed semantic topics on posts were related to healthy food, clothing, calorie counting, workouts, looks, habits, support, and unhealthy food. In the subset of 754 users who had gender, age, and 30-day weight change data available, women were predominant and 92.9% (701/754) lost weight. Female gender, body mass index (BMI) at baseline, high levels of online activity, the number of upvotes received per post, and topics discussed within the community were independently associated with weight change.CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that among active users of a weight management community, self-declaration of higher BMI levels (which may represent greater dissatisfaction with excess weight), high online activity, and engagement in discussions that might provide social support are associated with greater weight loss. These findings have the potential to aid health professionals to assist patients in online interventions by focusing efforts on increasing engagement and/or starting discussions on topics of higher impact on weight change.

Abstract:Objective: To characterize inaccurate and accurate beliefs about cancer risk factors held among Spanish-preferring adults in the United States. Methods: From a national probability panel, we surveyed 196 Hispanic adults who prefer completing questionnaires in Spanish. We also used data from a representative sample of 1200 adults in the US to compare belief acceptance. Results: Many less accepted accurate beliefs about cancer risk factors related to topics like fruit/vegetable consumption, weight loss, and alcohol use. Several inaccurate beliefs were widely held, with some being more accepted in the Spanish-preferring sample than the general US adult sample. Higher levels of self-reported media literacy and information scanning associated with more acceptance of both accurate and inaccurate beliefs. Access to the internet at home associated with discernment between accurate and inaccurate beliefs about cancer risk factors. Conclusion: Acceptance of accurate beliefs and rejection of inaccurate beliefs varied across potential cancer risk factors. Future Spanish-language public health messaging should address these belief inconsistencies when providing up-to-date cancer-related recommendations or correcting inaccurate information in the public communication environment. Innovation: Our study provides comprehensive information about cancer beliefs among Spanish-preferring adults in the United States, which was not previously available, and find that media literacy is a concept likely to be important to consider when putting together intervention tools to combat misinformation.
Web-Based Information Seeking Behaviors of Low-Literacy Hispanic Survivors of Breast Cancer: Observational Pilot Study

Abstract:Background: Internet searching is a useful tool for seeking health information and one that can benefit low-literacy populations. However, low-literacy Hispanic survivors of breast cancer do not normally search for health information on the web. For them, the process of searching can be frustrating, as frequent mistakes while typing can result in misleading search results lists. Searches using voice (dictation) are preferred by this population; however, even if an appropriate result list is displayed, low-literacy Hispanic women may be challenged in their ability to fully understand any individual article from that list because of the complexity of the writing. Objective: This observational study aims to explore and describe web-based search behaviors of Hispanic survivors of breast cancer by themselves and with their caregivers, as well as to describe the challenges they face when processing health information on the web. Methods: We recruited 7 Hispanic female survivors of breast cancer. They had the option to bring a caregiver. Of the 7 women, 3 (43%) did, totaling 10 women. We administered the Health LiTT health literacy test, a demographic survey, and a breast cancer knowledge assessment. Next, we trained the participants to search on the web with either a keyboard or via voice. Then, they had to find information about 3 guided queries and 1 free-form query related to breast cancer. Participants were allowed to search in English or in Spanish. We video and audio recorded the computer activity of all participants and analyzed it. Results: We found web articles to be written for a grade level of 11.33 in English and 7.15 in Spanish. We also found that most participants preferred searching using voice but struggled with this modality. Pausing while searching via voice resulted in incomplete search queries, as it confused the search engine. At other times, background noises were detected and included in the search. We also found that participants formulated overly general queries to broaden the results list hoping to find more specific information. In addition, several participants considered their queries satisfied based on information from the snippets on the result lists alone. Finally, participants who spent more time reviewing articles scored higher on the health literacy test. Conclusions: Despite the problems of searching using speech, we found a preference for this modality, which suggests a need to avoid potential errors that could appear in written queries. We also found the use of general questions to increase the chances of answers to more specific concerns. Understanding search behaviors and information evaluation strategies for low-literacy Hispanic women survivors of breast cancer is fundamental to designing useful search interfaces that yield relevant and reliable information on the web.
Evaluating the Dental Caries-Related Information on Brazilian Websites: Qualitative Study

Abstract:BACKGROUND: Dental caries is the most common chronic oral disease, affecting 2.4 billion people worldwide who on average have 2.11 decayed, missing, or filled teeth. It impacts the quality of life of patients, socially and economically. However, the comprehension of dental caries may be difficult for most people, as it involves a multifactorial etiology with the interplay between the tooth surface, the dental biofilm, dietary fermentable carbohydrates, and genetic and behavioral factors. Therefore, the production of effective materials addressed to the education and counseling of patients for the prevention of dental caries requires a high level of specialization. In this regard, the dental caries-related contents produced by laypersons and their availability on the Internet may be low-quality information.OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to assess the readability and the quality of dental caries-related information on Brazilian websites.METHODS: A total of 75 websites were selected through Google, Bing, Yahoo!, and Baidu. The websites were organized in rankings according to their order of appearance in each one of the 4 search engines. Furthermore, 2 independent examiners evaluated the quality of websites using the DISCERN questionnaire and the Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA) benchmark criteria. The readability of the websites was assessed by the Flesch Reading Ease adapted to Brazilian Portuguese (FRE-BP). In addition, the information presented on the websites was categorized as etiology, prevention, and treatment of dental caries. The statistical analysis was performed using Spearman rank correlation coefficient, Mann-Whitney U test, hierarchical clustering analysis by Ward minimum variance method, Kruskal-Wallis test, and post hoc Dunn test. P<.05 was considered significant.RESULTS: The Web contents were considered to be of poor quality by DISCERN (mean 33.48, standard deviation, SD 9.06) and JAMA (mean 1.12, SD 0.97) scores, presenting easy reading levels (FRE-BP: mean 62.93, SD 10.15). The rankings of the websites presented by Google (ρ=-.22, P=.08), Baidu (ρ=-.19, P=.53), Yahoo! (ρ=.22, P=.39), and Bing (ρ=-.36, P=.23) were not correlated with DISCERN scores. Moreover, the quality of websites with health- and nonhealth-related authors was similar (P=.27 for DISCERN and P=.47 for JAMA); however, the pages with a greater variety of dental caries information showed significantly higher quality scores than those with limited contents (P=.009).CONCLUSIONS: On the basis of this sample, dental caries-related contents available on Brazilian websites were considered simple, accessible, and of poor quality, independent of their authorship. These findings indicate the need for the development of specific policies focused on the stimulus for the production and publication of Web health information, encouraging dentists to guide their patients in searching for recommended oral health websites.

Abstract:Objective: To assess the accuracy, quality, and readability of patient-focused breast cancer websites using expert evaluation and validated tools. Background: Ensuring access to accurate, high-quality, and readable online health information supports informed decision-making and health equity but has not been recently evaluated. Methods: A qualitative analysis on 50 websites was conducted; the first 10 eligible websites for the following search terms were included: "breast cancer," "breast surgery," "breast reconstructive surgery," "breast chemotherapy," and "breast radiation therapy." Websites were required to be in English and not intended for healthcare professionals. Accuracy was evaluated by 5 breast cancer specialists. Quality was evaluated through the DISCERN questionnaire. Readability was measured using 9 standardized tests. Mean readability was compared with the American Medical Association and National Institutes of Health 6th grade recommendation. Results: Nonprofit hospital websites had the highest accuracy (mean = 4.06, SD = 0.42); however, no statistical differences were observed in accuracy by website affiliation (P = 0.08). The overall mean quality score was 50.8 ("fair"/"good" quality) with no significant differences among website affiliations (P = 0.10). Mean readability was at the 10th grade reading level, the lowest being for commercial websites with a mean 9th grade reading level (SD = 2.38). All websites exceeded the American Medical Association- and National Institutes of Health-recommended reading level by 4.4 levels (P < 0.001). Websites with higher accuracy tended to have lower readability levels, whereas those with lower accuracy had higher readability levels. Conclusion: As breast cancer treatment has become increasingly complex, improving online quality and readability while maintaining high accuracy is essential to promote health equity and empower patients to make informed decisions about their care.
[Perceptions about the Information and Education for Health in Virtual Environments in Spanish]

Abstract:Objective: The appropriation of digital technology in knowledge applied to health should promote a proactive attitude in the persons, training them in the search for information, the management of their health care, and the health of their social context and environment. The objective of this work was to know and analyse, in relation to the information searches and education for health in Spanish virtual environments, the access features, the users' perceptions and experiences, the degree of easiness or difficulty perceived by themselves, and their causes, as well as their topics of interest to suggest improvements. Methods: An ex post facto empirical research was carried out, with a combined quantitative, qualitative design, through a self-completed online questionnaire with simple random distribution among internet healthcare users, students, professors, and staff from Spanish universities. The personal profile of the survey respondents, the access features, the difficulties met, and the search topics were investigated. We have used measures of descriptive and inferential statistics, as Kramer's V and contingency coefficient, to investigate the differences between groups of the surveyed population. The influence of sex and age on the answers was studied. Results: The study was performed on 998 responses, which suppose a response rate of 9.56%. Internet users surveyed used digital environments in searches for health in 99.8% of the 974 valid responses, varying the tech- nology used and social media according to age, and 57.1% of 965 responses considered easy and very easy to obtain information, and 35.6% of 922 responses used it for education searches. The offer of information for health, with 655 responses, was considered ample, but presented doubts about quality and reliability for 87.4%, while the health education, less demanded, with 196 responses, was rated as more reliable, but presented quality doubts for 32.7%. 27.6% considered a scarce offer and 16.8% found difficulties to access. Regarding the searched topics, the most frequent among 945 responses were in relation to the vital stages, the disease or the syndromes, and the tests, related to themselves or relatives, with 22,0% of searches, followed of the search category "healthy life" with 18.8%. Little dependence was found among the studied categories related to Internet searches with respect to gender and age, except for the age in relation to the categories of "access technology", and "social media". Conclusions: The growing use of the Internet in the search for information and education for health could influence patients, relatives, and caregivers in relation to care and self-care, as well as in the relationship with the health system and its professionals. The searches find important difficulties, as in Information for health, doubtful reliability, low quality contents, and infoxication; while in Education for health, they refer difficulty to access and doubtful reliability.
Addressing Susceptibility to Non-Prescription Substances for Weight Loss Among Immigrant Hispanic College Students: A Pilot Study

Abstract:Non-prescription weight loss substances, such as supplements and herbal remedies, can be harmful. Hispanic immigrant students may be highly susceptible to these substances, especially those advertised on social media. This study was a feasibility/acceptability pilot trial of an intervention to reduce this susceptibility. Latino or Hispanic immigrant students aged 18-35 were randomized to receive either a single-session, culturally tailored online intervention (Redes Sociales Para la Salud), or a dose-matched intervention focused on general support for immigrant students (Immigrant Support). Following the intervention, participants answered quantitative and open-ended questions about intervention satisfaction, and completed measures of susceptibility to non-prescription weight loss substances. Participants additionally completed measures of social media use and social norm perceptions. Fifty-five participants enrolled in the study, and 32 had primary outcome data. Participants were majority female (62.5%) and graduate students (81.3%) with a mean BMI of 24.6 ± 3.5 kg/m2. Ratings of intervention satisfaction were moderate (3.5-3.7 out of 5). In open-ended questions, participants identified areas of high satisfaction (cultural appropriateness, learning new information) and suggested improvements (increase interactivity, improve presentation appearance). Considering signal of an effect, participant ratings indicated that susceptibility to non-prescription weight loss substances was lower after Redes Sociales Para la Salud compared to the control intervention. In exploratory analyses, susceptibility to non-prescription weight loss substances was positively associated with extent of social media use (r = 0.41-0.46) and social norms about use of these substances (r = 0.38). With additional refinement, the Redes Sociales Para la Salud has promise for addressing susceptibility to non-prescription weight loss substances.

Abstract:BACKGROUND: Obesity is a highly prevalent condition with important health implications. Face-to-face interventions to treat obesity demand a large number of human resources and time, generating a great burden to individuals and health system. In this context, the internet is an attractive tool for delivering weight loss programs due to anonymity, 24-hour-accessibility, scalability, and reachability associated with Web-based programs.OBJECTIVE: We aimed to investigate the effectiveness of Web-based digital health interventions, excluding hybrid interventions and non-Web-based technologies such as text messaging, short message service, in comparison to nontechnology active or inactive (wait list) interventions on weight loss and lifestyle habit changes in individuals with overweight and obesity.METHODS: We searched PubMed or Medline, SciELO, Lilacs, PsychNet, and Web of Science up to July 2018, as well as references of previous reviews for randomized trials that compared Web-based digital health interventions to offline interventions. Anthropometric changes such as weight, body mass index (BMI), waist, and body fat and lifestyle habit changes in adults with overweight and obesity were the outcomes of interest. Random effects meta-analysis and meta-regression were performed for mean differences (MDs) in weight. We rated the risk of bias for each study and the quality of evidence across studies using the Grades of Recommendation, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation approach.RESULTS: Among the 4071 articles retrieved, 11 were included. Weight (MD -0.77 kg, 95% CI -2.16 to 0.62; 1497 participants; moderate certainty evidence) and BMI (MD -0.12 kg/m2; 95% CI -0.64 to 0.41; 1244 participants; moderate certainty evidence) changes were not different between Web-based and offline interventions. Compared to offline interventions, digital interventions led to a greater short-term (<6 months follow-up) weight loss (MD -2.13 kg, 95% CI -2.71 to -1.55; 393 participants; high certainty evidence), but not in the long-term (MD -0.17 kg, 95% CI -2.10 to 1.76; 1104 participants; moderate certainty evidence). Meta-analysis was not possible for lifestyle habit changes. High risk of attrition bias was identified in 5 studies. For weight and BMI outcomes, the certainty of evidence was moderate mainly due to high heterogeneity, which was mainly attributable to control group differences across studies (R<sup>2</sup>=79%).CONCLUSIONS: Web-based digital interventions led to greater short-term but not long-term weight loss than offline interventions in overweight and obese adults. Heterogeneity was high across studies, and high attrition rates suggested that engagement is a major issue in Web-based interventions.

Abstract:Background: Online content can inform the personal risk of developing an eating disorder, and it can influence the time and motivation to seek treatment. Patients routinely seek information online, and access to information is crucial for both prevention and treatment. The primary aim of the current study was to quantify the readability scores of online content on eating disorders using natural language processing algorithms, across two languages: English and Italian. Methods: Unique terms related to single diagnoses were searched using Google®. The content available on Wikipedia was also assessed. Readability was defined according to the Flesch Readability Ease (FRE) and the Rate Readability Index (RIX). The scientific support of retrieved content and the authoritativeness of sources were measured through standardized variables. Results: In Italian, online content was more likely published by private psychotherapy institutes or by websites that promote diet-advice or weight-loss. In both languages, the most readable content was on Anorexia Nervosa (RIX 4.18, FRE-en 59.6, FRE-it 41.69), Bulimia Nervosa (RIX 3.99, FRE-en 66.27, FRE-it 39.66) or Binge Eating (RIX 4.01, FRE-en 68.10, FRE-it 38.62). English sources consistently had more references than Italian pages (range 35-182, vs 1-163, respectively). and had a higher percentage of citations available in the target language. The content of these references was mainly reflective of peer-reviewed or clinical manuals. Conclusion: Attention should be given to developing online content for Muscle Dysmorphia and Orthorexia Nervosa, as well as improving the overall readability of online content on eating disorders, especially for languages other than English.

Abstract:INTRODUCTION little attention has been paid to the effect of exposure to weight-related stigma on the quality of life of young Chileans with little obesity. OBJECTIVE to identify the prevalence of weight-related stigma and to analyze its association with obesity and the perception of quality of life in university students from Valparaíso, Chile. METHODS correlational type study and cross-sectional design. Two hundred and sixty-two university students participated, from 18 to 29 years old, matriculated in the Faculty of Health Sciences of a public university in Valparaíso, Chile. Quality of life was assessed with the WHOQOL-BREF scale, weight-related stigma with the Brief Stigmatizing Situations Inventory (SSI), and nutritional status with body mass index (BMI) classification. The application of the questionnaires was on-line and the answers were anonymous. Multiple logistic regression models were used to evaluate the association between the variables, adjusted for gender and age. RESULTS the prevalence of stigma related to weight was 13,2 % in eutrophic, 24,4 % in overweight and 68,0 % in obese. Weight-related stigma, rather than obesity itself, is associated with poorer perceived physical health (OR: 4.30; 95 % CI: 2.10-8.80), psychological health (OR: 4.51; 95 % CI: 2.20-9.26), social relationships (OR: 3.21; 95 % CI: 1.56-6.60) and environment (OR: 2.86; 95 % CI: 1.33-6.14). CONCLUSION students exposed to stigmatizing situations related to weight had a worse perception of their quality of life compared to those not stigmatized.

Readability of Online Materials in Spanish and English for Breast Reduction Insurance Coverage

Abstract:Introduction: Breast reduction surgery aims to alleviate physical discomfort and improve the quality of life for individuals with macromastia. Insurance coverage plays a crucial role in making this surgery accessible, but navigating the complex approval process can be challenging. Online resources have become a primary information source, but limited research exists on the adequacy of online materials, particularly for Spanish-speaking patients. This study evaluates the readability, actionability, and understandability of online educational materials on breast reduction insurance coverage for Spanish- and English-speaking patients. Methods: We conducted an online search using the phrase "breast reduction insurance" and selected the first eight institutional or organizational websites that provided information on breast reduction insurance in both English and Spanish. We evaluated online materials using the Patient Education and Materials Assessment Tool (PEMAT), Cultural Sensitivity Assessment Tool (CSAT), and Simplified Measure of Gobbledygook, Spanish (SOL). These tools were used to assess factors such as understandability and actionability, cultural sensitivity, and readability of the materials. Results: Both English and Spanish materials scored high in understandability and actionability, with similar average scores between the languages. Cultural sensitivity scores indicated acceptable materials. However, Spanish materials had a higher reading grade level and more hard words compared to English materials. Conclusion: There is a need for accessible and understandable online resources on breast reduction insurance coverage, particularly for Spanish-speaking patients. While the assessed websites generally provided comprehensible information, improvements can be made to enhance visual aids and simplify language. These improvements can better educate patients, improve outcomes, and reduce healthcare costs. Level of evidence v: This journal requires that authors assign a level of evidence to each article. An Innovative Approach to Promote Weight Loss Among Mexican Immigrants: A Pilot Study

Abstract:Mexican Americans are among the highest risk groups for obesity and its associated health consequences, including diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. 154 overweight/obese Mexican Americans recruited from the Mexican Consulate in New York City were enrolled in COMIDA (Consumo de Opciones Más Ideales De Alimentos) (Eating More Ideal Food Options), a 12-week Spanish-language lifestyle intervention that included a dietary counseling session, weight-loss resources, and thrice-weekly text messages. Participants' weight (primary outcome); dietary intake, physical activity, and nutrition knowledge (secondary outcomes) were assessed pre- and post-intervention. Of the 109 who completed follow-up, 28% lost ≥ 5% of their baseline body weight. Post-intervention, participants consumed more fruit and less soda, sweet pastries, fried foods and red meat; increased physical activity; and evidenced greater nutrition knowledge. A community-based lifestyle intervention with automated components such as text messaging may be a scalable, cost-effective approach to address overweight/obesity among underserved populations.

Abstract:Abstract Background Concerns have been raised regarding the quality of health information published on the World Wide Web, while studies accumulating similar evidence for nutrition‐related information are scarce. The present review aimed to systematically accumulate and discuss the findings of studies evaluating the content quality of websites publishing nutrition‐related information, based on the PRISMA statement. Methods Studies that have assessed the accuracy and readability of dietary advice published on websites/webpages were evaluated. The SPIDER framework was used for the systematic search of studies, and those that evaluated websites/webpages that did not contain nutritional information, were videos or social media, referred to health professionals, or contained information on a specific theme (e.g., dietary supplements), were excluded. Results Twenty‐nine studies were included in this review, assessing information, published mainly in English, on 18 different diet‐related topics. Twenty of them classified websites and reported, also, results per category. Inconsistent information has been found on 16%–49.6% of websites, with this percentage rising to 54%–94% in the case of ‘weight loss’ information. Purely congruent with guidelines information was found on 18%–39.7% of websites. Commercial sites were inferior in terms of quality to the rest. The readability level was estimated as higher than the recommended in 9 out of 11 studies that assessed it. Conclusions Results of the present systematic review indicate that inaccurate and hard‐to‐read dietary advice is found on many websites, regardless of the dietary topic.

Abstract:Weight self-stigma may be defined as a self-devaluation due to one's identification with the group of people with obesity. The Weight Self-Stigma Questionnaire (WSSQ) is an instrument specifically designed to measure weight self-stigma in populations with overweight or obesity. The objective of this study was to adapt the WSSQ to the Spanish population (S-WSSQ) following the guidelines for cross-cultural adaptations.

Abstract:Background: In China, the internet has become one of the most important ways to obtain information about breast cancer. However, quantitative evaluations of the quality of Chinese health websites and the breast cancer treatment information they publish are lacking. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the quality of Chinese breast cancer websites and the value, suitability, and accuracy of the breast cancer treatment information they publish. Methods: Chinese breast cancer health websites were searched and manually screened according to their Alexa and Baidu search engine rankings. For each website included in the survey, which was conducted on April 8, 2019, the three most recently published papers on the website that met the inclusion criteria were included for evaluation. Three raters assessed all materials using the LIDA, DISCERN, and Suitability Assessment of Materials (SAM) tools and the Michigan Checklist. Data analysis was completed with the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20.0 and Microsoft Excel 2010. Results: This survey included 20 Chinese breast cancer websites and 60 papers on breast cancer treatment. The LIDA tool was used to evaluate the quality of the 20 websites. The LIDA's scores of the websites (mean=54.85, SD 3.498; total possible score=81) were low. In terms of the layout, color scheme, search facility, browsing facility, integration of nontextual media, submission of comments, declaration of objectives, content production method, and robust method, more than half of the websites scored 0 (never) or 1 (sometimes). For the online breast cancer treatment papers, the scores were generally low. Regarding suitability, 32 (53.33%) papers were evaluated as presenting unsuitable material. Regarding accuracy, the problems were that the papers were largely not original (44/60, 73%) and lacked references (46/60, 77%). Conclusions: The quality of Chinese breast cancer websites is poor. The color schemes, text settings, user comment submission functions, and language designs should be improved. The quality of Chinese online breast cancer treatment information is poor; the information has little value to users, and pictorial information is scarcely used. The online breast cancer treatment information is accurate but lacks originality and references. Website developers, governments, and medical professionals should play a full role in the design of health websites, the regulation of online health information, and the use of online health information.
