What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The paper aims to study the serum irisin levels in girls at different developmental stages and to explore the significance of irisin in the diagnosis of central precocious puberty (CPP). Specifically, the study employed a cross-sectional design and included 111 girls, comprising 43 cases of CPP, 44 cases of peripheral precocious puberty (PPP), and 24 normally developing controls. The study collected data on age, weight, height, luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), estradiol, and irisin levels, as well as assessed uterine length, transverse diameter, and anteroposterior diameter through pelvic Doppler ultrasound. Based on the results of the gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) stimulation test, the girls were divided into non-CPP and CPP groups. The results showed that serum irisin levels in the CPP group were significantly higher than those in the PPP group and the normal control group. Additionally, serum irisin levels were positively correlated with baseline LH levels, baseline FSH levels, peak LH levels, peak LH/FSH ratio, uterine volume, bone age, and bone age index. When irisin was used to diagnose CPP, the area under the curve (AUC) was 0.958, with a cutoff value of 219.255 pg/ml, a sensitivity of 100%, and a specificity of 80.6%. When combining serum irisin, baseline LH, and uterine volume for joint diagnosis, the AUC was 0.994, with a sensitivity of 97.6% and a specificity of 100%, outperforming single indicators. In summary, this study aims to explore the potential application value of serum irisin levels in the diagnosis of CPP and proposes a combined diagnostic index based on irisin levels.
