Abstract:A phosgene- and metal-free synthesis of unsymmetrical arylurea derivatives utilizing 3-substituted dioxazolones and commercially available amines has been developed. The 3-substituted dioxazolones serve as the precursors of thein situgenerated isocyanate intermediates in the presence of non-toxic sodium acetate as a base and methanol as a solvent under mild heating conditions. A series of unsymmetrical phenylureas includingN, N'- mono-, di-, and trisubstituted derivatives are chemoselectively obtained in moderate to excellent yields from a broad scope of both 3-substituted dioxazolones and amines without a significant amount of the symmetrical byproducts. In many cases, the resulting unsymmetrical phenylureas are easily separated by filtration allowing no chromatographic purification. These investigations provide an opportunity for facile, practical, and eco-friendly synthesis of unsymmetrical diarylureas. Application of this method is demonstrated toward the gram-scale preparation of anti-cancer drugs, sorafenib and the 3-cycle continuous synthesis in conjugation with the recycle of sodium acetate and methanol process of known herbicide, daimuron.

Abstract:An efficient strategy for carbazoles and 1,2,4-triarylpyrroles synthesis from anilines and cyclohexanones or acetophenones under transition-metal-free conditions is developed. A variety of disubstituted 9-arylcarbazoles were synthesized in moderate to good yields promoted by KI/I-2 using anilines as the nitrogen and aryl source. Meanwhile, a variety of 1,2,4-triarylpyrroles were also selectively synthesized from anilines and acetophenones in the presence of KI alone.

Abstract:A novel synthetic approach toward 1,4-disubstituted 1,2,3-triazoles by C-N- and N-N-bond formation has been established under transition-metal-free conditions. Complete control of the regioselectivity was successfully achieved. Commercially available anilines, ketones, and N-tosylhydrazine were treated with molecular iodine in one pot to allow the regioselective generation of 1,4-disubstituted 1,2,3-triazoles in high yields without the use of azides.

Abstract:A simple, general and efficient method is developed for the metal-free iodination of arylboronic acids. The protocol uses very cheap molecular iodine as the halide source and potassium carbonate as the base. The method is highly tolerant of various functional groups present in the substrates. Importantly, the iodination strategy can also be applied very effectively in the one-pot, two-step synthesis of biaryl derivatives.

Within this catalytic system, 3-phenylbenzo[d][1,2,3]triazin-4(3H)-one derivatives undergo C-H alkylation processes facilitated by a Cp*Rh(III) catalyst when combined with a carbonyl sulfoxonium ylide. On the other hand, when iodonium ylide substrates are used, they undergo an alkenylation reaction facilitated by a Cp*Ir(III) catalyst. In addition, hydrazone products are produced by synthesizing iodonium ylide substrates with the use of a copper catalyst. These transformations demonstrate mild reaction conditions, a wide range of substrates, and excellent compatibility with various functional groups. The strategy and tactics utilized have been effectively implemented on a significant scale.

Abstract:In recent years, 1,2,3-benzotriazinones have been recognized as an alternative nitrogen- containing framework in a series of annulations and cross-coupling reactions under transition metal catalysis, as well as metal-free systems. A wide array of N -heterocycles and ortho - functionalized benzamides could be constructed through transformations of 1,2,3- benzotriazinones by the extrusion of a benign N 2 gas. This review highlights recent advancements on the synthetic methodologies and organic transformations of 1,2,3- benzotriazinones.

Abstract:An atom-efficient, straightforward method for the synthesis of 2,4,6-triaryl-1,3,5-triazines via iron-catalyzed cyclization of aldehydes with NH4I as the sole nitrogen source is demonstrated. This strategy works smoothly under air atmosphere, and affords symmetrical 2,4,6-trisubstituted and unsymmetrical 1,3,5-triazines with yields from 18% to 72%. Compared to other methods, the present protocol provides a straightforward and atom-efficient approach to 2,4,6-trisubstituted 1,3,5-triazines using an inexpensive, easily available ammonium salt as the sole nitrogen source. Research into the preliminary mechanism indicates that N-benzylidenebenzimidamides are involved in this cyclization reaction.

Abstract:Comprehensive Summary A convenient approach for the construction of 2‐aminobenzothiazoles via I2‐catalyzed tandem cyclization reaction of amines and carbon disulfide has been developed. The present approach starts from simple and readily available starting materials, affording a series of 2‐aminobenzothiazoles in up to 89% yields under metal‐free conditions. Abstract:Herein, we disclose the metal-free synthesis of arylamines via the direct amination of phenols using aminating reagents. This reaction procedure uses easy accessible aminating reagents and provides a versatile synthetic route to a broad range of arylamines with various functionalities in good to excellent yield. By using a two-step route of amination and oxidative coupling reaction, we synthesized three naturally occurring carbazole alkaloids: murrayafoline A, mukonine, and clausenine from two commercially available phenols.

Abstract:A convenient, metal-free, and organic acid-base promoted synthetic method to prepare 3-arylindoles from 3-aryloxirane-2-carbonitriles and arylhydrazine hydrochlorides has been developed. In the reaction, the organic acid catalyzes a tandem nucleophilic ring-opening reaction of aryloxiranecarbonitriles and arylhydrazine hydrochlorides and Fischer indolization. The organic base triethylamine plays a crucial role in the final elimination step in the Fischer indole synthesis, affording 3-arylindoles regiospecifically. The reaction features advantages of microwave acceleration, non-metal participation, short reaction time, organic acid-base co-catalysis, and broad substrate scope.

Abstract:An efficient, economical, and convenient method was developed for the preparation of 2-substituted (N, O, C) benzothiazoles from N'-substituted-N-(2-halophenyl)thioureas, O'-substituted-N-(2-halophenyl) carbamothioates, or N-(2-halophenyl) thioamides via a base-promoted cyclization in dioxane without any transition metal. A one-pot variant combining the synthesis of the thiourea and the cyclization was also demonstrated. High yields were obtained, and a variety of functional groups were tolerated under these conditions. Transition-metal-free, mild reactive conditions, wide application scope, and shorter reaction times make this method superior to the reported methods for the synthesis of 2-substituted benzothiazoles and suitable for combinatorial format.

This strategy can be effectively promoted by DBU and carboxylic acids. Mechanistically, it involves sequential ring opening of aziridines with carboxylic acids, lactamization, and elimination of carboxylic acids.

Abstract:Efficient and environmentally benign procedures have been reported for the synthesis of 1,4-disubstituted 1,2,3-triazoles by reaction of aryl azides with aldehydes in task-specific basic ionic liquid [DBU-Bu]OH under ultrasonic irradiation and in hydrated ionic liquid tetrabutylammonium hydroxide (Bu4NOH) under conventional heating.
