Abstract:In this work, an iterative learning control (ILC) strategy is applied to synchronize the outputs from a group of homogeneous agents under iteration-varying communication topology. First, we show that the ILC strategy works for fixed strongly connected graph, which lays out the analysis framework for the rest developments. Next, the result is extended to iteration-varying topology, where the graph is strongly connected in each iteration. Then, the result is further generalized to uniformly strongly connected graph along the iteration domain. Matrix norm properties together with contraction mapping based analysis are utilized to prove the results. Finally, a numerical example is presented to verify the obtained results.

Abstract:This article investigates the iterative learning control problem for a class of nonlinear heterogeneous multi-agent systems. The main contribution of this article is to apply iterative learning control algorithm to the multi-agent systems with multiple leaders, and solve the containment control problem of multi-agent systems in the sense of iterative learning control stability. Based on the framework of communication topologies, distributed iterative learning controllers are designed. And when the iterative learning control laws are applied to the systems, the containment errors between the followers’ states and the convex hull spanned by the leaders’ states over a finite-time interval are bounded, and furthermore, the containment errors can converge to zero as the iteration index approaches to infinity in the absence of initial errors. A simulation example is finally constructed to verify the effectiveness of the theoretical method.

Multi-agent consensus tracking with initial state error by iterative learning control

Abstract:This work addresses a leader-follower tracking problem by an iterative learning control approach. In the multi-agent setup, a dynamic leader is connected to a few of followers, and the communication among agents is described by a directed graph. In contrast to many existing literature in which the perfect initial condition is imposed, we assume that the initial state is reset to a fixed position that is not equal to the desired state. First, the performance of D-type learning rule is analyzed, and it is shown that the follower's output trajectory converges to a unique trajectory. In particular, when the learning gain is full column rank the trajectory of each agent converges to the leader's trajectory with a constant shift. Next, to improve the control performance, PD-type learning rule is proposed for the tracking problem. It is proven that the output trajectory converges exponentially to the leader's trajectory for each agent provided that the learning gains are appropriately chosen. Finally, numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the theoretical results.

Abstract:This paper is devoted to solving formation problems of multi-agent systems with higher-order dynamics. By using the iterative learning control (ILC) approaches, effective distributed algorithms are developed to enable all agents in directed graphs to achieve the desired relative formations perfectly over a finite-time interval. It is shown that the graph theory can be combined to develop conditions for both asymptotic stability and monotonic convergence of multi-agent formation ILC. Simulation results are finally given to verify our theoretical study.

Abstract:In this paper, an efficient framework is proposed to the formation control problem of multiple agents with unknown nonlinear dynamics, by means of the iterative learning approach. In particular, a distributed D-type iterative learning scheme is developed for the multi-agent system with switching topology, whose switching time and sequence are allowed to be varied at different iterations according to the actual trajectories of agents, and a sufficient condition is derived to ensure that the desired formation can be always preserved from the initial starting location to the final one after some iterations. Simulation results are provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Abstract:SUMMARY This paper deals with formation control problems for multi‐agent systems by using iterative learning control (ILC) design approaches. Distributed formation ILC algorithms are presented to enable all agents in directed graphs to achieve the desired relative formations perfectly over a finite‐time interval. It is shown that not only asymptotic stability but also monotonic convergence of multi‐agent formation ILC can be accomplished, and the convergence conditions in terms of linear matrix inequalities can be simultaneously established. The derived results are also applicable to multi‐agent systems that are subject to stochastic disturbances and model uncertainties. Furthermore, the feasibility of convergence conditions and the effect of communication delays are discussed for the proposed multi‐agent formation ILC algorithms. Simulation results are given for uncertain multi‐agent systems to verify the theoretical study. Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Abstract:Base on the uncertain interconnected systems with state delay, a decentralized model reference adaptive iterative learning control is proposed in this paper. The proposed controller of each subsystem only relies on local state variables with no any information exchanges with other subsystems. In order to eliminate the effects of interconnections, state delays and uncertainties, the adaptive parameters are updated along iteration axis. Simulation results demonstrate, utilizing the proposed adaptive controller, the tracking error for each subsystem converges along the iteration axis.

Abstract:This study aims to develop an iterative learning control (ILC) approach to solving finite-time output consensus problems of multi-agent systems. The communication topologies among agents are considered to dynamically change in two directions (along both time axis and iteration axis), for which a framework is presented to construct effective distributed protocols. It is shown that a protocol can be derived through ILC to enable multi-agent systems to accomplish the finite-time consensus, which moreover can possess an exponentially fast convergence speed. In particular, for any desired terminal output that is available to not all of but only a portion of agents, multi-agent systems can be guaranteed to achieve the finite-time consensus at the desired terminal output. Simulation tests are given to demonstrate the performance and effectiveness of the obtained consensus results.

Abstract:In this paper, the formation control problem is investigated for discrete-time multi-agent systems with unknown nonlinear dynamics by means of the iterative learning approach. For networks with switching topology, a distributed iterative learning scheme is developed using the local formation error data with anticipation in time, and a sufficient condition is derived to guarantee that the desired formation can be preserved during the whole finite-time motion or operation process, even in the presence of initial formation errors. Simulation results illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:In this paper, the problem of formation control is considered for multi-agent systems subject to locally Lipschitz nonlinearities, for which a class of distributed iterative learning control (ILC) algorithms is proposed. By introducing a double-dynamics analysis (DDA) approach, the boundedness is ensured for the state and input of all agents such that a "quasi-globally" Lipschitz nonlinear condition can be established for the locally Lipschitz nonlinear multi-agent systems. This is further adopted to exploit the convergence of distributed ILC in order to achieve a perfect formation control of all agents. A simulation example is given to illustrate our ILC-based formation results and also the effectiveness of our DDA approach to convergence analysis of nonlinear ILC.

Abstract:This paper deals with the distributed iterative learning control (ILC) problem of leaderless consensus in a network of heterogeneous nonlinear agents. For a general case that the topology graph is dynamically changing with respect to both iteration and time axes, an ILC-based consensus protocol is designed for each agent by utilizing its control input and neighboring information from the last iteration. It is shown that under a basic joint spanning tree condition, the states of all agents can exponentially agree on a common trajectory along the iteration axis. Interestingly, by the appropriate design of the agents’ dynamics, it is found that the consensus trajectory and the network state can approach the unique optimal point of a convex optimization problem as the time evolves. Simulations demonstrate the validity of the proposed algorithms and theoretical analysis.

Abstract:In this paper, we apply iterative learning control to both linear and nonlinear fractional-order multi-agent systems to solve consensus tacking problem. Both fixed and iteration-varying communicating graphs are addressed in this paper. For linear systems, a PDα-type update law with initial state learning mechanism is introduced by virtue of the memory property of fractional-order derivative. For nonlinear systems, a Dα-type update law with forgetting factor and initial state learning is designed. Sufficient conditions for both linear and nonlinear systems are established to guarantee all agents achieving the asymptotic output consensus. Simulation examples are provided to verify the proposed schemes.

Abstract:This work addresses a leader-follower synchronization problem of a group of agents whose dynamics are represented by general nonlinear multi-input multi-output (MI-MO) equations. The group of agents can be non-identical, and their dynamics contain both parametric and lumped nonparametric uncertainties. A distributed adaptive and robust iterative learning control (ILC) algorithm is proposed. It is shown that under appropriate conditions, the proposed ILC algorithm can synchronize the trajectories of all followers to the desired one even only a few followers are able to access the trajectory of the leader. Simulation study supports the theoretical developments.

Abstract:This paper investigates consensus control problem for a class of distributed parameter type multi-agent differential inclusion systems with state time-delay by utilizing iterative learning control (ILC). Unlike most ILC literature of nonlinear distributed parameter systems that require an identical virtual leader, the virtual leader is iteratively varying in this work and can be described by any follower agent. Both P -type closed-loop and D -type open-loop ILC are proposed for the distributed parameter type multi-agent differential inclusion systems, which enable the output trajectories of each agent to achieve consensus in the sense of W 1 , 2 norm as the iteration number increases. Meanwhile, consensus control theorems for these protocols are established by using Steiner-type selector, Green's formulas and some technical inequalities. Finally, numerical simulations testify the validity of the proposed methods.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce iterative learning control (ILC) schemes with varying trial lengths (VTL) to control impulsive multi-agent systems (I-MAS). We use domain alignment operator to characterize each tracking error to ensure that the error can completely update the control function during each iteration. Then we analyze the system’s uniform convergence to the target leader. Further, we use two local average operators to optimize the control function such that it can make full use of the iteration error. Finally, numerical examples are provided to verify the theoretical results.

Abstract:This paper considers a finite-time consensus problem for a distributed multi-agent system executing a given repetitive task. The virtual leader technology is introduced for the system with fixed topology. Under the condition of unknown initial states corresponding to the desired trajectory, a distributed learning control algorithm combined with initial state correction of every agent is proposed for the system with interference. The convergence analysis shows that the proposed algorithm can eliminate the tracking errors caused by the different initial states between every agent and the desired trajectory, and the perfect tracking control within the finite-time is available. Simulate results also prove the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Abstract:This paper deals with formation control problems for multi-agent systems with nonlinear dynamics and switching network topologies. Using the nearest neighbor knowledge, a distributed algorithm is constructed by employing the iterative learning control approach. Sufficient conditions are given to obtain the desired relative formations of agents, which benefits from the strict positiveness of products of stochastic matrices. It is shown that the derived results can effectively work, although the network topologies dynamically change along both time and iteration axes and the corresponding directed graphs may not have spanning trees. Such result is also illustrated via numerical simulations.

Abstract:This paper studies the distributed consensus control problem for a class of leader-follower multi-agent systems with double integrator dynamics by using an iterative learning approach. Consensus errors of individual agents are considered as the anticipation in time and a distributed iterative learning protocol for an undirected networks with a fixed topology is proposed to guarantee that the follower agents track the leader perfectly in finite time. The dynamic of the leader agent is assumed to be time-varying and its state information is available to only a portion of the followers. A sufficient condition is obtained for the consensus control problem of the multi-agent system, and a numerical example is provided to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:In this paper, we use 2 iterative learning control schemes (P‐type and PI‐type) with an initial learning rule to achieve the formation control of linear fractional‐order multiagent systems. To realize the finite‐time consensus, we assume repeatable operation environments as well as a fixed but directed communication topology for the fractional‐order multiagent systems. Both P‐type and PI‐type update laws are applied to generate the control commands for each agent. It is strictly proved that all agents are driven to achieve an asymptotical consensus as the iteration number increases. Two examples are simulated to verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms.

Abstract:In this paper, the finite-time output consensus problem of multi-agent systems is considered by using the iterative learning control (ILC) approach. Two classes of distributed protocols are constructed from the two-dimensional system point of view (with time step and iteration number as independent variables), and are termed as iterative learning protocols. If learning gains are chosen appropriately, then all agents in a directed graph can be enabled to achieve finite-time consensus with the iterative learning protocols. Moreover, all agents in a directed graph can be guaranteed to reach finite-time consensus at any desired terminal output if the iterative learning protocols are improved by introducing the desired terminal output to some (not necessarily all) of the agents. Simulation results are finally presented to illustrate the performance and effectiveness of our iterative learning protocols.
