Abstract:BOC signal is featured by the split spectrum, and this feature not only provides the potential for an improved ranging performance against thermal noise, but also offers a substantial degree of redundancy against some types of undesired interferences. However, the two benefits of BOC signal can only be acquired separately by two different processing schemes, viz. single-band and dual band processing. Moreover, dual-band processing of BOC signal will encounter a notorious false lock problem under the conventional tracking structure, and therefore modifications are made to the conventional structure and even new tracking structures are developed in the literature to alleviate or eliminate the problem. While the stability of dual-band processing is often paid at the expense of the complexity and compatibility, as the modified or new tracking structures are generally too complicated to be implemented in hardware and almost incompatible with single-band processing. Therefore, a new technique called "Dual BPSK Tracking"(DBT), which incorporates the two processing schemes into a unified and simple structure, is specially designed and implemented in this paper for receiver processing of BOC signal. Specifically, the paper derives a common reception model for both single-band and dual-band processing, and then proposes a unified correlator architecture, which consists of two groups of standard BPSK correlators, to implement the DBT technique. Due to the advantages of the structure, the DBT technique not only supports both single-band and dual band processing but also allows flexible switches between them, and it is shown that the compatibility and flexibility help to achieve the stability of dual-band processing. To sum up, the proposed technique has a good performance in terms of stability, complexity, and compatibility and is proven to be a satisfactory solution to receiver processing of BOC signal.
