Abstract:Hydrogen sulphide, like nitric oxide and carbon monoxide, is an endogenously gaseous mediator, regulating the process of many physiological and pathological functions, such as blood pressure, neurotransmission, and inflammation, in mammalian tissues, but it was rare reported in the patients with acute abdominal infection. In this study, we research the level changes and clinical significance of endogenous hydrogen sulfide (H2S) of patients with acute abdominal infection. The venous blood was collected for 2 ml from each patient suffering from acute abdominal infection without other infection or complications. A total of 28 patients (18–51 years old, with an average 41 years old) were observed, 15 were male and 13 were female. The venous blood from 40 health volunteers (20–54 years old, 23 were male and 17 were female) was used as control to determine the level of endogenous H2S through deproteinate method. The level of endogenous H2S was compared for patients with abdominal infection and patients without infection, pre-infection controlled and post-infection controlled, and patients with different gradient of infection. The concentration of endogenous H2S of patients with and without infection were 51.27 ± 4.90 μmol/L and 34.05 ± 2.90 μmol/L (p < 0.05); The concentration of endogenous H2S were 51.27 ± 4.90 μmol/L and 37.26 ± 3.20 μmol/L (p < 0.05); Along with APACHEII score increasing for patients with infection, the concentration of endogenous H2S also increased. APACHEII score were 5–10 (n = 6, 43.73 ± 1.56 mmol/L), 10 ∼ 15 (n = 13, 51.31 ± 2.29 mmol/L), 15–20 (n = 9, 56.23 ± 1.21 mmol/L). The level ofendogenous H2S was increasing along with the infection occurrence and the gradient of infection aggravate. We can presume that endogenous H2S participated in inflammatory reaction of abdominal infection and could be one of the serology index which concerned with the gradient of infection.
