Abstract:The two numerical optimization methods for fuel consumption in large-scale rendezvous between spacecrafts are presented in this paper.One is for two-impulse,large-scale rendezvous and the other,based on the Niche genetic algorithm,is for multi-impulse rendezvous.The transfers between two coplanar circular orbits and that between two coplanar,coaxial elliptical orbits are used to validate these optimization methods.Using these two methods,the impact of the number of impulses on fuel consumption in large-scale rendezvous between spacecrafts is examined.Although the result is not analytical,the configuration of the trajectory in multi-impulse cases between two non-coplanar circular orbits is useful and constructive.

Abstract:Heterogeneous constellations are composed of satellites with different structures or satellites carrying payloads with different functions. Different appearances of satellites and changes in attitude lead to different area-to-mass ratios (AMRs), which is an adverse factor in the orbit control of low Earth orbit (LEO). Traditional deployment methods primarily apply to homogeneous constellations, and the overall fuel optimization of the constellation and the trajectory drift difference among heterogeneous satellites are not considered. In the present study, the deployment of microsatellites with different AMRs was explored, so as to deploy the satellites to the target semimajor axis and relative phase in the same plane. Such deployment applies to both heterogeneous and homogeneous constellations in which satellites change the attitude or appearance thereof dynamically and differentially in LEO. By introducing the influence of atmospheric drag and orbit maneuvers into the traditional method, an argument of latitude (AoL) and semimajor axis coordinated control strategy was established. A satellite AoL adjustment amount optimization algorithm based on the Kuhn-Munkres and simulated annealing algorithms was proposed, which enables satellites to complete the target configuration with the fuel close to the expected value. Compared with the traditional method, the cost, average fuel consumption, and fuel consumption balance of each satellite are significantly improved, being beneficial for maintaining the overall fuel balance of the constellation and extending the controllable life of the constellation.

Abstract:Long-term maintenance missions present a challenge for low-orbit heterogeneous area-to-mass ratio (AMR) microsatellite constellations due to inconsistent fuel consumption and carrying capacity. Based on the idea of cooperative control, the fuel consumption of fuel-rich satellites is properly increased in this paper to assist fuel-starved satellites in saving fuel, so as to optimize the fuel consumption balance of each satellite and extend the controllable lifetime of the constellation. The evolution of the relative phase under J(2) and atmospheric drag perturbation is analyzed. The target configuration and the strategy of maintenance are modeled and optimized based on the principle of fuel consumption balance. The traditional absolute phase maintenance method for heterogeneous AMR constellation is devised. On this basis, the orbit altitude is optimized with the simulated annealing algorithm to improve the fuel consumption balance. Based on the relative phase maintenance method, the maintenance strategy is optimized with the genetic algorithm to further reduce fuel and enhance the fuel consumption balance. Finally, the three methods are contrasted.

Abstract:In view of fuel consumption problem of the formation establishment, starting from the fly around equation, using double-impulse, the optimization is simulated based on the Niche Genetic Algorithm (NGA). The simulation result shows that the NGA is a good way to solve the fuel consumption optimization problem of formation establishment, and the fuel consumption when the phase determined is greater than the fuel consumption when the phase not determined.

Abstract:Aiming at the formation reconfiguration problem, a fuel-optimal coordinate control approach for formation maneuver while satisfying the constraint of inter-satellite safe distance was presented. First, took the constraint of inter-satellite safe distance into consideration, a modified fuel consumption performance index was put forward. Based on the Pontryagin maximum Principle, a formation reconfiguration mathematical model of two point boundary value problem is established. Then, took the duration of formation reconfiguration and initial states of satellites on target formation as optimized variables, and considered the states constraint of the end time of formation reconfiguration, the two point boundary value problem is solved numerically by searching the minimum value of the performance index based on Genetic Algorithm. In the end, mathematical simulation show that the optimal control model of formation reconfiguration is correct, and the method of solving the two point boundary value problem by Genetic Algorithm is effective.

Abstract:A fast costate estimation technique with shaping-based method is applied to the indirect optimization of fuel-optimal multisatellite formation reconfiguration. The Bezier-curve-based shaping approach is able to solve the approximate optimal trajectory rapidly, which is to estimate the costate by being discretized at Gauss points and substituted into the discrete first-order optimality condition. The performance of costate estimation is verified in three-satellite formation reconfiguration and six-satellite formation configuration initialization. Compared with the direct method's results, the costate estimation can lead to optimal solutions of indirect optimization and only spend 5.8% and 5.9% calculation time of direct method.

Abstract:In this study, analytical results are obtained for fuel-optimal spacecraft formation maneuver, including initialization and reconfiguration. The method consists of two stages. The first is parameterization of the problem and a new form of the problem is developed for simplicity. Second, the out-of-plane and in-plane maneuver are studied with the help of a useful inequality introduced and proved, the lower bound of the fuel consumption and the corresponding constraints of the control forces are derived and obtained. The result shows that the minimum total fuel consumption depends on the relative size parameters, and that the existence of optimal control algorithms depends upon the initial conditions. Numerical simulation of application proved the validity and efficiency of the proposed method, which can also be utilized in the maneuver of PCF.

Abstract:This paper addresses the keeping control problem of the leader-follower satellite formation by using an economic model predictive control method. The objective function in the designed economic model predictive control is comprised of two parts. One part is an adjustment term which is used to realize the trajectory tracking. The other part is an economic term l e which achieves fuel optimization. In addition, genetic algorithm is used to solve the control law which realizes the keeping control of satellite formation. Simulation results show that the proposed control method can achieve fuel optimization control for satellite formation.

Abstract:To design a long time stable satellite formation for s aving fuel is very important work, so an optimization method to design a long ti me stable satellite formation under various perturbations is derived. Firstly th e constraints between relative positions and velocities in Hill frame according to the specific mission are developed by using the Hill′s equation. Secondly us ing the free relative positions or velocities as optimization variables, the opt imization cost function is the sum of the relative mean orbit elements drift vel ocities under J2 perturbation. The optimal algorithm used above is the mod ified genetic algorithm. The genetic algorithm can find the global optimal value s compared to other optimal methods, while the genetic algorithm also has some d rawbacks such as prematurity and evolution stagnancy in solving some difficult p roblems. So a modified genetic algorithm is derived to overcome the drawbacks me ntioned above. The simulation results show that the satellite formation designed by the optimization method under various perturbations can keep stable for a lo ng time without any control.

Abstract:In order to improve the flight efficiency of a flying–walking power transmission line inspection robot (FPTLIR) during flight missions, an accurate energy consumption model is constructed, and a multiobjective optimization approach using the improved NSGA-II is proposed to address the high energy consumption and long execution time. The energy consumption model is derived from the FPTLIR kinematics to the motor dynamics, with the key parameters validated using a test platform. A multiobjective optimization model is proposed that considers many constraints related to the FPTLIR during missions, offering a comprehensive analysis of the energy consumption and execution time. The NSGA-II algorithm is improved by integrating the Cauchy variation operator and the simulated annealing algorithm, which is used to construct the multiobjective optimization approach. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate that the proposed model accurately predicts the energy consumption of the FPTLIR across different paths and flight conditions with an average relative error ranging from 0.76% to 3.24%. After optimization, energy savings of 5.33% and 5.01% are achieved for on-line and off-line missions, respectively, while maintaining the shortest execution time at the given energy level. The energy consumption optimization approach significantly improves the flight efficiency of the system, providing a reference for analyzing and optimizing energy consumption of inspection robots.

Abstract:In order to solving the establishment problem of satellites formation establishing in elliptical orbits, the problem of Lambert transfer based on two-impulse control with unfixed time and initial position is studied. The Niche Genetic Algorithms(NGA) is used to locating the optimal transfer orbit, and the transfer time and initial position are coded into genetic algorithms, as well as the fitness functions are designed to total coasting. The results show that the NGA can solve the optimization problem of two-impulse control effectively, furthermore, the performance of NGA is more effective than the traditional genetic algorithm. The research provides a way for satellites formation establishing based on two-impulse control.

Abstract:With the rapid development of the satellite industry, the information transmission network based on communication satellites has gradually become a major and important part of the future satellite ground integration network. However, the low transmission efficiency of the satellite data relay back mission has become a problem that is currently constraining the construction of the system and needs to be solved urgently. Effectively planning the task of satellite ground networking by reasonably scheduling resources is crucial for the efficient transmission of task data. In this paper, we hope to provide a task execution scheme that maximizes the profit of the networking task for satellite ground network planning considering feeding mode (SGNPFM). To solve the SGNPFM problem, a mixed-integer planning model with the objective of maximizing the gain of the link-building task is constructed, which considers various constraints of the satellite in the feed-switching mode. Based on the problem characteristics, we propose a distance similarity-based genetic optimization algorithm (DSGA), which considers the state characteristics between the tasks and introduces a weighted Euclidean distance method to determine the similarity between the tasks. To obtain more high-quality solutions, different similarity evaluation methods are designed to assist the algorithm in intelligently screening individuals. The DSGA also uses an adaptive crossover strategy based on similarity mechanism, which guides the algorithm to achieve efficient population search. In addition, a task scheduling algorithm considering the feed-switching mode is designed for decoding the algorithm to generate a high-quality scheme. The results of simulation experiments show that the DSGA can effectively solve the SGNPFM problem.

Energy Efficient Network Strategy for Nanosatellites Cluster Flight Formations

Abstract:This research aims to establish a network strategy with energy efficient considerations for cluster formations, which comprise a number of nanosatellites to coordinate for scientific missions. Nanosatellites are constrained in size and power, hardly providing adequate energy for long transmission distance and high transmission rate. Hereby we propose a multiple hopping relay methodology to deliver the scientific data in the cluster or to the ground terminals with the optimal energy balance of the entire network. Accordingly, we first analyzed power constraint in the network related to link budget and energy dissipations of maintaining intersatellite links with necessary data rates at desired frequency. Then we formulated the network as a space-time graph due to nanosatellite relative motions. A minimum spanning tree was searched to fulfill the global connectivity of low energy cost over the space-time graph. Simulation results show that the minimum spanning tree over the space communication is optimal for the cluster formations with high energy efficiency.

Abstract:The number of satellites in orbit is increasing rapidly. To make better use of the limited ground station resources, an improved genetic algorithm considering satellites and ground station resources is proposed. The hybrid encoding rules, genetic operators, and adaptive operators, which can better adapt to the characteristics of the problem and improve algorithm efficiency, are designed. The simulation comparison with the simple genetic algorithm demonstrates that the improved genetic algorithm has a faster convergence speed and superior searching ability.

Abstract:This paper studies a fully distributed optimal formation flying problem for a multi-satellite system with a chief satellite and some deputy satellites, in order to seek the optimal formation via simple local information exchange. A distributed algorithm is proposed such that the satellites team performance is optimised in finite time while all of the satellites meet the formation constraint. To achieve the optimal flight, the performance functions for each deputy satellite that can describe the satellite's contribution to the task are introduced. Here, the performance functions can be time varying, which generally changes the problem from finding the fixed optimal point to tracking the optimal trajectory. Theoretical studies indicate that the proposed algorithm will optimise the satellites flight and all of the satellites can keep the desired communication distance. Finally, simulation examples are presented to show the validity of the theoretical results.

Abstract:A near fuel-optimal control method for satellite formation keeping is developed.The orbit errors are expressed in terms of class orbit elements.Based on Gauss's variational equations of motion,the feedback control allows specific orbit elements to be controlled with minimal impact on the remaining orbit elements. Compared to optimal control solutions,the advantage of this control method is that it can operate with little computational effort and in a near fuel-optimal manner.Simulation results show that this control method is effective and can save more fuel than other methods.

Abstract:Journey planning is a core of air refueling.Under the systematic analysis of air refueling problem,a journey-planning model is constructed for the deploying aircraft refueling twice in round-trip.This model considers the total fuel consumption and the flight distance of the deploying aircraft,excluding return.Using genetic algorithm(GA) and its programs,actual calculations show that the model has good adaptability to suit different operational environments and different operational requirements.The GA is global,highly efficient for air refueling planning and easily realized in computers.The achieved refueling scheme is reasonable.

Abstract:This paper investigates an optimal orbit design method for single-satellite synthetic aperture radar tomography (TomoSAR) missions. Satellites require multibaseline observations for three-dimensional imaging. Thus, we need to weigh performance indicators such as global coverage, sampling rate, fuel consumption, and revisit accuracy. Considering these performance indicators, this paper proposes a multiobjective optimization algorithm based on multireference transfer orbit (M-RTO), which demonstrates superiority in fuel consumption. Fuel consumption is the primary optimization objective as it determines the lifetime of the satellite. First, we use Pareto optimization for the objectives of revisit time and fuel consumption. Then, we adopt an adaptive hybrid genetic algorithm (AHGA) for the objectives of revisit accuracy and fuel consumption. Numerical simulation verifies that compared with the single-reference transfer orbit method, the multireference transfer orbit method decreases fuel consumption by similar to 37%, and the rest of the performance indicators meet the mission requirements.
