Abstract:The local properties of entropy for a countable discrete amenable group action are studied. For such an action, a local variational principle for a given finite open cover is established, from which the variational relation between the topological and measure-theoretic entropy tuples is deduced. While doing this it is shown that two kinds of measure-theoretic entropy for finite Borel covers coincide. Moreover, two special classes of such an action: systems with uniformly positive entropy and completely positive entropy are investigated.

Abstract:Let [Formula: see text] be a compact metric space and [Formula: see text] a countable infinite discrete amenable group acting on [Formula: see text]. Like in the [Formula: see text]-action cases we define the notion of local entropy and by it we bound the difference between metric entropy and that of a partition, and bound the difference between topological entropy and that of a separated set, which generalize Theorems 1(1) and 1(2) in [Newhouse, 1989] from [Formula: see text]-actions to amenable group actions. We further prove that the entropy function [Formula: see text] is upper semi-continuous on [Formula: see text] for an asymptotic entropy expansive amenable group action.

Abstract:Abstract Packing topological entropy is a dynamical analogy of the packing dimension, which can be viewed as a counterpart of Bowen topological entropy. In the present paper we give a systematic study of the packing topological entropy for a continuous G -action dynamical system $(X,G)$ , where X is a compact metric space and G is a countable infinite discrete amenable group. We first prove a variational principle for amenable packing topological entropy: for any Borel subset Z of X , the packing topological entropy of Z equals the supremum of upper local entropy over all Borel probability measures for which the subset Z has full measure. Then we obtain an entropy inequality concerning amenable packing entropy. Finally, we show that the packing topological entropy of the set of generic points for any invariant Borel probability measure $\mu $ coincides with the metric entropy if either $\mu $ is ergodic or the system satisfies a kind of specification property.

We prove a variational principle for topological entropy of saturated sets for systems which have the specification property and uniform separation property. We show that certain algebraic actions satisfy these two conditions. We give an application in multifractal analysis.

Abstract:In this paper we introduce the definition of entropy for a partial $\mathbb{Z}$-action. We show that the definition of partial entropy is an extension of the definition of topological entropy for a $\mathbb Z$-action. We also prove that the partial topological entropy is concentrated on the non-wandering set.

Abstract:In this paper we study various entropies for factor maps of amenable group actions. We prove firstly theorem 3.1 inequalities linking relative topological entropy and conditional topological entropy (for factor maps of amenable group actions) without any additional assumption, which strengthens conditional variational principles (Zhu 2021 Nonlinearity 34 5163-85, theorems 2.12 and 3.9) proved by Zhu under additional assumptions. Then along the line of Misiurewicz (1976 Studia Math. 55 175-200), we introduce a new invariant called relative topological tail entropy and prove a Ledrappier's type variational principle concerning it (for factor maps of amenable group actions); consequently, any factor map with zero relative topological tail entropy admits invariant measures with maximal relative entropy, which provides a nontrivial sufficient condition for the existence of invariant measures with maximal relative entropy in the setting of factor maps of amenable group actions.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a countable discrete amenable group which acts continuously on a compact metric space $X$ and let $\mu$ be an ergodic $G-$invariant Borel probability measure on $X$. For a fixed tempered Følner sequence $\{F_n\}$ in $G$ with $\lim\limits_{n\rightarrow+\infty}\frac{|F_n|}{\log n}=\infty$, we prove the following variational principle: $$h^B(G_{\mu},\{F_n\})=h_{\mu}(X,G),$$ where $G_{\mu}$ is the set of generic points for $\mu$ with respect to $\{F_n\}$ and $h^B(G_{\mu},\{F_n\})$ is the Bowen topological entropy (along $\{F_n\}$) on $G_{\mu}$. This generalizes the classical result of Bowen in 1973.

Abstract:In this short note, for countably infinite amenable group actions, we provide topological proofs for the following results: Bowen topological entropy (dimensional entropy) of the whole space equals the usual topological entropy along tempered Følner sequences; the Hausdorff dimension of an amenable subshift (for certain metric associated to some Følner sequence) equals its topological entropy. This answers questions by Zheng and Chen (Israel Journal of Mathematics 212 (2016), 895-911) and Simpson (Theory Comput. Syst. 56 (2015), 527-543).

Entropy of group actions beyond uniform lattices

Abstract:Entropy of measure preserving or continuous actions of amenable discrete groups allows for various equivalent approaches. Among them are the ones given by the techniques developed by Ollagnier and Pinchon on the one hand and the Ornstein-Weiss lemma on the other. We extend these two approaches to the context of actions of amenable topological groups. In contrast to the discrete setting, our results reveal a remarkable difference between the two concepts of entropy in the realm of non-discrete groups: while the first quantity collapses to 0 in the non-discrete case, the second yields a well-behaved invariant for amenable unimodular groups. Concerning the latter, we moreover study the corresponding notion of topological pressure, prove a Goodwyn-type theorem, and establish the equivalence with the uniform lattice approach (for locally compact groups admitting a uniform lattice). Our study elaborates on a version of the Ornstein-Weiss lemma due to Gromov.

In this paper we study the upper capacity entropy and packing entropy for systems with weaker version of specification. We prove that the upper capacity always carries full entropy while there is a variational principle for packing entropy of saturated sets.

Abstract:Recently Lewis Bowen introduced a notion of entropy for measure-preserving actions of countable sofic groups admitting a generating measurable partition with finite entropy; and then David Kerr and Hanfeng Li developed an operator-algebraic approach to actions of countable sofic groups not only on a standard probability space but also on a compact metric space, and established the global variational principle concerning measure-theoretic and topological entropy in this sofic context. By localizing these two kinds of entropy, in this paper we prove a local version of the global variational principle for any finite open cover of the space, and show that these local measure-theoretic and topological entropy coincide with their classical counterparts when the acting group is an infinite amenable group.

Abstract:In this paper we study chaotic behavior of actions of a countable discrete group acting on a compact metric space by self-homeomorphisms.For actions of a countable discrete group G, we introduce local weak mixing and Li-Yorke chaos; and prove that if G is infinite then local weak mixing implies Li-Yorke chaos, and if G is an infinite countable discrete amenable group then positive topological entropy implies local weak mixing. Moreover, when considering a shift of finite type for actions of an infinite countable amenable group G, if the action has positive topological entropy then its homoclinic equivalence relation is non-trivial, and if additionally G is residually finite and the action contains a dense set of periodic points then the converse holds true.

Abstract:For a given factor map pi : X -> Y between two topological dynamical systems and a Borel cover U, two notions of measure-theoretical conditional entropy h(mu)(+) (T, U vertical bar Y) and h(mu)(-)(T, U vertical bar Y) for an invariant Borel probability measure mu are introduced. It is shown that h(mu)(+)(T, U vertical bar Y) = h(mu)(-)(T, U vertical bar Y). Moreover, max(mu) h(mu)(+)(T, U vertical bar Y) = h(top)(T, U vertical bar Y) when U is an open cover. The relative variational principle is a consequence of the results.

Abstract:Abstract We introduce the notion of sequence entropy for amenable group actions and investigate systematically spectrum and several mixing concepts via sequence entropy both in measure-theoretic dynamical systems and topological dynamical systems. Moreover, we localize the sequence entropy by defining the notion of sequence entropy pairs for amenable group actions and use it to characterize weakly mixing and null systems.

Abstract:In this paper we provide a sufficient condition for the existence of invariant measures with maximal relative measure-theoretic entropy, by introducing a new invariant for any factor map between topological dynamical systems, the concept of relative topological conditional entropy. It is proved a Ledrappier's type variational principle concerning relative topological conditional entropy. Consequently, if the factor map has zero relative topological conditional entropy (such a factor map is called asymptotically h-expansive), then there exist invariant measures with maximal relative measure-theoretic entropy (i.e., whose relative measure-theoretic entropy equals exactly relative topological conditional entropy of the factor map). We explore further properties of relative topological conditional entropy, for example, the addition formula for a product factor map, the estimation of it for composition of two factor maps, and so on. We also interpret relative topological conditional entropy, respectively, using relative topological entropy of subsets and Bowen's dimensional entropy.

Abstract:This paper introduces the concepts of correlation entropy and local correlation entropy for free semigroup actions on compact metric space, and investigates their underlying properties. Thereafter, we extend certain classical findings on correlation entropy and local correlation entropy to the realm of free semigroup actions. Finally, we establish the interconnections between topological entropy, measure-theoretic entropy, correlation entropy, and local correlation entropy for free semigroup actions under different conditions.

Abstract:In this article, we introduce and explore the notion of topological amenability in the broad setting of (locally compact) semihypergroups. We acquire several stationary, ergodic and Banach algebraic characterizations of the same in terms of convergence of certain probability measures, total variation of convolution with probability measures and translation of certain functionals, as well as the F-algebraic properties of the associated measure algebra. We further investigate the interplay between restriction of convolution product and convolution of restrictions of measures on a sub-semihypergroup. Finally, we discuss and characterize topological amenability of sub-semihypergroups in terms of certain invariance properties attained on the corresponding measure algebra of the parent semihypergroup. This in turn provides us with an affirmative answer to an open question posed by J. Wong in 1980.
