Abstract:In this paper, we describe the flow of 2-surfaces in R(3) for some negative power of the Gauss curvature. We show that strictly convex surfaces expanding with normal velocity K(-alpha), when 1/2 < alpha <= 1, converge to infinity in finite time. After appropriate rescaling, they converge to spheres. In the 2-dimensional case, our results close an apparent gap in the powers considered by previous authors, that is, for alpha is an element of (0, 1/2] by Urbas and Huisken and for alpha = 1 by Schnurer.
Constant sectional curvature surfaces with a semi-symmetric non-metric connection

Abstract:Consider the Euclidean space $\mathbb{R}^3$ endowed with a canonical semi-symmetric non-metric connection determined by a vector field $\mathsf{C}\in\mathfrak{X}(\mathbb{R}^3)$. We study surfaces when the sectional curvature with respect to this connection is constant. In case that the surface is cylindrical, we obtain full classification when the rulings are orthogonal or parallel to $\mathsf{C}$. If the surface is rotational, we prove that the rotation axis is parallel to $\mathsf{C}$ and we classify all conical rotational surfaces with constant sectional curvature. Finally, for the particular case $\frac12$ of the sectional curvature, the existence of rotational surfaces orthogonally intersecting the rotation axis is also obtained.

Abstract:We study surfaces with a constant ratio of principal curvatures in Euclidean and simply isotropic geometries and characterize rotational, channel, ruled, helical, and translational surfaces of this kind under some technical restrictions (the latter two cases only in isotropic geometry). We use the interlacing of various methods of differential geometry, including line geometry and Lie sphere geometry, ordinary differential equations, and elementary algebraic geometry.

Abstract:In this paper, we find all constant slope surfaces in the Euclidean 3-space, namely those surfaces for which the position vector of a point of the surface makes constant angle with the normal at the surface in that point. These surfaces could be thought as the bi-dimensional analogue of the generalized helices. Some pictures are drawn by using the parametric equations we found.

Abstract:In the last two decades, much effort has been dedicated to studying curves and surfaces according to their angle with a given direction. However, most findings were obtained using a case-by-case approach, and it is often unclear what are consequences of the specificities of the ambient manifold and what could be generic. In this work, we propose a theoretical framework to unify parts of these findings. We study curves and surfaces by prescribing the angle they make with a parallel transported vector field. We show that the characterization of Euclidean helices in terms of their curvature and torsion is also valid in any Riemannian manifold. Among other properties, we prove that surfaces making a constant angle with a parallel transported direction are extrinsically flat ruled surfaces. We also investigate the relation between their geodesics and the so-called slant helices; we prove that surfaces of constant angle are the rectifying surface of a slant helix, i.e., the ruled surface with rulings given by the Darboux vector field of the directrix. We characterize rectifying surfaces of constant angle; in other words, when their geodesics are slant helices. As a corollary, we show that if every geodesic of a surface of constant angle is a slant helix, then the ambient manifold is flat. Finally, we characterize surfaces in the product of a Riemannian surface with the real line making a constant angle with the vertical real direction.

Abstract:We classify the hypersurfaces of $\mathbb{Q}^3\times\mathbb{R}$ with three distinct constant principal curvatures, where $\varepsilon \in \{1,-1\}$ and $\mathbb{Q}^3$ denotes the unit sphere $\mathbb{S}^3$ if $\varepsilon = 1$, whereas it denotes the hyperbolic space $\mathbb{H}^3$ if $\varepsilon = -1$. We show that they are cylinders over isoparametric surfaces in $\mathbb{Q}^3$, filling an intriguing gap in the existing literature. We also prove that the hypersurfaces with constant principal curvatures of $\mathbb{Q}^3\times\mathbb{R}$ are isoparametric. Furthermore, we provide the complete classification of the extrinsically homogeneous hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{Q}^3\times\mathbb{R}$.

Abstract:In this paper, we study translation surfaces in the Euclidean space endowed with a canonical semi-symmetric non-metric connection. We completely classify the translation surfaces of constant sectional curvature with respect to this connection, proving that they are generalized cylinders. This consequence is the same as in the case of the Levi-Civita connection, but in this new setting, there are also generalized cylinders whose sectional curvature can be constant or non-constant, in contrast to the Levi-Civita connection, where the Gaussian curvature is zero.

Abstract:In this paper, we show that the constant property of the Gaussian curvature of surfaces of revolution in both $\mathbb R^4$ and $\mathbb R_1^4$ depend only on the radius of rotation. We then give necessary and sufficient conditions for the Gaussian curvature of the general rotational surfaces whose meridians lie in two dimensional planes in $\mathbb R^4$ to be constant, and define the parametrization of the meridians when both the Gaussian curvature is constant and the rates of rotation are equal.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to verify that the study of generic conformally flat hypersurfaces in 4-dimensional space forms is reduced to a surface theory in the standard 3-sphere. The conformal structure of generic conformally flat (local-)hypersurfaces is characterized as conformally flat (local-)3-metrics with the Guichard condition. Then, there is a certain class of orthogonal analytic (local-)Riemannian 2-metrics with constant Gauss curvature -1 such that any 2-metric of the class gives rise to a one-parameter family of conformally flat 3-metrics with the Guichard condition. In this paper, we firstly relate 2-metrics of the class to surfaces in the 3-sphere: for a 2-metric of the class, a 5-dimensional set of (non-isometric) analytic surfaces in the 3-sphere is determined such that any surface of the set gives rise to an evolution of surfaces in the 3-sphere issuing from the surface and the evolution is the Gauss map of a generic conformally flat hypersurface in the Euclidean 4-space. Secondly, we characterize analytic surfaces in the 3-sphere which give rise to generic conformally flat hypersurfaces.

Abstract:In this article, we construct complete embedded constant mean curvature surfaces in $\mb{R}^3$ with freely prescribed genus and any number of ends greater than or equal to four. Heuristically, the surfaces are obtained by resolving finitely many points of tangency between collections of spheres. The construction relies a family of constant mean curvature surfaces constructed in \cite{Kleene}, constructed as graphs over catenoidal necks of small scale.

Abstract:In this study, constant angle ruled surfaces with a pointwise 1-type Gauss map, which is very useful in the classification of surfaces, are investigated in terms of the Frenet elements of the base curves of the ruled surfaces in Euclidean 3-space. In order to form a basis for our work, firstly, basic concepts related to the Gauss map of an oriented surface are given. Later, a classification is satisfied by determining the necessary conditions to be the first kind, the second kind, and the harmonic of the pointwise 1-type of the Gauss map for these surfaces. Finally, some examples of these surfaces are provided, and their graphical illustrations are displayed.

Abstract:In this paper we solve the Plateau problem for spacelike surfaces with constant mean curvature in Lorentz-Minkowski three-space $ł^3$ and spanning two circular (axially symmetric) contours in parallel planes. We prove that rotational symmetric surfaces are the only compact spacelike surfaces in $ł^3$ of constant mean curvature bounded by two concentric circles in parallel planes. As conclusion, we characterize spacelike surfaces of revolution with constant mean curvature as the only that either i) are the solutions of the exterior Dirichlet problem for constant boundary data or ii) have an isolated conical-type singularity.

Abstract:In this work we introduce the notion of constant angle null hypersurface of a Lorentzian manifold with respect to a given ambient vector field. We analyze the case in which the vector field is closed and conformal, thus finding that such null hypersurfaces have a canonical principal direction. We further provide some classification results for constant angle null surfaces with vanishing null mean curvature.

Then, we classify homogeneous hypersurfaces and isoparametric hypersurfaces, respectively. Abstract:Generalizing the notion of domains of dependence in the Minkowski space, we define and study regular domains in the affine space with respect to a proper convex cone. In dimension three, we show that every proper regular domain is uniquely foliated by a particular kind of surfaces with constant affine Gaussian curvature. The result is based on the analysis of a Monge-Amp\`ere equation with extended-real-valued lower semicontinuous boundary condition.

Abstract:Let ℚ3 be the common conformal compactification space of the Lorentzian space forms $\mathbb{R}^{3}_{1} ,\mathbb{S}^{3}_{1} \;{\text{and}}\;\mathbb{H}^{3}_{1} $. We study the conformal geometry of space-like surfaces in ℚ3. It is shown that any conformal CMC-surface in ℚ3 must be conformally equivalent to a constant mean curvature surface in $\mathbb{R}^{3}_{1} ,\mathbb{S}^{3}_{1} \;{\text{and}}\;\mathbb{H}^{3}_{1} $. We also show that if x : M → ℚ3 is a space-like Willmore surface whose conformal metric g has constant curvature K, then either K = −1 and x is conformally equivalent to a minimal surface in $\mathbb{R}^{3}_{1}$, or K = 0 and x is conformally equivalent to the surface $\mathbb{H}^{1} {\left( {\frac{1}{{{\sqrt 2 }}}} \right)} \times \mathbb{H}^{1} {\left( {\frac{1}{{{\sqrt 2 }}}} \right)}\;{\text{in}}\;\mathbb{H}^{3}_{1} .$
