Abstract:Aiming at a kind of uncertainties of models in complex industry processes, a novel method for selecting robust parameters is stated in the paper. Based on the analysis, parameters selecting for robust control is reduced to be an object optimization problem, and the particle swarm optimization (PSO) is used for solving the problem, and the corresponding robust parameters are obtained. Simulation results show that the robust parameters designed by this method have good robustness and satisfactory performance.

Abstract:It is widely recognized that model uncertainty is inevitable. A robust design method of predictive controller parameter based on Min-Max ruler is presented that takes into account model uncertainty. Simulation results show that it enables predictive controller to keep better control performance when the plant dynamic characteristics change and re-design of predictive controller parameters is not needed,which improves system robust performance.

Abstract:A novel robust PID design method is presented in this paper.This method gets the reasonable PID controller parameters based on min-max principle,which can guarantee the control quality when the model varies in a certain range,decrease the sensitivity to the model uncertainty and increase the robustness of the closed-loop system.Since the min-max problem is not computationally tractable,the authors address this problem by first deriving an upper bound on the robust performance objective and then translating the min-max problem into the minimization problem with the upper bound on the worst-case objective.The paper proves the robust stability of the PID design method.The simulation result of CSTR problem is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the robust PID design method.
On Parameter Design for Predictive Control with Adaptive Disturbance Model

Abstract:The step model widely used to estimate the unmeasured output disturbance in MPC at present has limited disturbance rejection performance. Adaptive disturbance model can estimate the disturbance dynamics better and improve the ability of disturbance rejection. Parameter design of the controller has great impact on the control performance. The disturbance rejection strategy of disturbance adaptation predictive control (DMCA) is analyzed in the paper, as well as the effects of controller parameters on system dynamic performance, robustness and disturbance rejection ability. In addition, design methods for parameters such as disturbance prediction horizon, orders of time series model and filter factor for output error are researched and then experience guidelines for the parameter design are summarized. Simulation results show that DMCA can decrease the integral of absolute value of error criterion for the controlled variable by 45% than Dynamic Matrix Control (DMC). The optimization design of controller parameters improves DMCA's ability of predicting and rejecting disturbance further.

Abstract:In robust parameter design for blocked experiments, the correlation of response observations within each block and model parameter uncertainty often impact acquiring ideal operating conditions. In this paper, a Bayesian mixed regression-based multi-response surface modeling and optimization method is suggested to address the above issues. Firstly, the mixed effects model is incorporated into the Bayesian framework, and posterior distributions of the model parameters are derived using Bayes' theorem. Secondly, the hybrid Monte Carlo algorithm is employed to calculate the model parameters. Thirdly, the expected quality loss function satisfying the specification is constructed to lessen the impact of outliers on the results of optimization, and the optimal factor settings are obtained by the hybrid genetic algorithm. In addition, the posterior probability is used to assess the conformance of the optimization results. Finally, a simulated study and real-world example of the additive manufacturing process are used to illustrate the viability of the proposed method. Compared with the current techniques, the proposed method can reduce the impact of model uncertainty on the modeling and optimization results, leading to more conformant and robust optimization results.

Abstract:This paper introduced a robust parameter coordination method to analyze parameter uncertainties so as to predict conflicts and coordinate parameters in multidisciplinary design. The proposed method is based on constraints network, which gives a formulated model to analyze the coupling effects between design variables and product specifications. In this model, interval boxes are adopted to describe the uncertainty of design parameters quantitatively to enhance the design robustness. To solve this constraint network model, a general consistent algorithm framework is designed and implemented with interval arithmetic and the genetic algorithm, which can deal with both algebraic and ordinary differential equations. With the help of this method, designers could infer the consistent solution space from the given specifications. A case study involving the design of a bogie dumping system demonstrates the usefulness of this approach.

The paper presents a robust decision and optimisation approach based on multidisciplinary modelling for complex product development. In this paper, the design knowledge is presented as constraints network from multidisciplinary domain. Then multidisciplinary robust decision and optimisation method is presented to solve the model. The method described in this paper was used to develop knowledge driven multidisciplinary collaborative design system, which is applied to railway vehicle development processing.

Abstract:On the base of traditional robust optimal design in statics, in this paper, by considering the system under the incentive force of the arbitrary time function, the dynamic response robust optimal design problem, when system dynamic response can only be calculated using numerical integration. Considering the environmental interference factors in a system, derived the expression of response with a small parameter perturbation finite element method. Through the tiny fluctuation frame system in a post and beam’s elastic modulus, realize the robust optimal design of the structural dynamic response, and using New-mark method for dynamic analysis, robust optimal design is applied in dynamic response optimization. Compared to the traditional optimal design’s result in a frame system, robust optimal design of the frame displayed a significant improvement in performance.

Abstract:In the manufacturing process of products, it is common to produce in batches, and such complex products often have many interrelated processes and interdependent components. These lead to mutual correlations among multiple responses, correlations among response observations, and a complex relationship between inputs and responses. If aforementioned relationships cannot be addressed in the robust parameter design of batch products, it will influence the predictive precision of the model, subsequently impacting the reliability of the optimization results. To tackle the above three types of associations in products with batch effects, we propose a new approach, namely, the semiparametric mixed‐effects modeling approach for multi‐response correlation. Specifically, we begin by developing a multi‐response Bayesian semiparametric mixed‐effects model using spline, and then construct a multivariate loss function to obtain the optimal operating conditions, subsequently calculating the value of the entropy‐based weighted satisfaction function. The validity of the suggested method in modeling and optimization is verified through a simulation study and 3D printing example analysis.

Abstract:For most practical engineering optimal problems,the relationships between quality characteristics and uncertain factors are unknown or complicated.A hybrid response surface method is presented to solve this problem in robust design.By considering the robustness of objective functions and constraint functions the relationship between quality characteristics and uncertain factors can be determined by polynomial response surface method;if polynomial response surface method is not precise enough then artificial neural network is adopted to obtain a precise solution of robust design using multi-objective fuzzy preferences method to determine the weights.The proposed method achieves a good balance between computing precision and cost.As a demonstration,a two-bar structure system is analyzed with our method.Results show that our method is feasible for robust design.

Abstract:This paper presents an approach of multidisciplinary knowledge modeling and robust parameter decision-making. Firstly, a multidisciplinary knowledge model is established. Secondly, a multidisciplinary decision-making algorithm is presented to solve the model. Finally, the method is demonstrated by a design example, in which knowledge in mechanics, cybernetics and dynamics are addressed. The results prove that multidisciplinary knowledge modeling is feasible, and the proposed method can be applied in multidisciplinary parameter decision-making process.

Abstract:A multidisciplinary robust optimization design framework, concurrent subsystem robust design optimization, is proposed to obtain robust optimum solution in the large-scaled and coupled system. In this framework, response surfaces in the form of artificial neural networks provide information pertaining to system performance characteristics, and individual subsystems engage in performing robust optimization design in parallel while communicating with the system level. This optimization approach incorporates uncertainty analysis and generates a global robust optimum solution in an iterative fashion. Two applications are considered, and the results demonstrate that the approach yields a reasonable robust optimum solution, and it is a potential and efficient multidisciplinary robust optimization approach .

Abstract:In practical application, a nominal model is often used to approximate the design of industrial system. This approximation could make the traditional design method less effective due to the existence of model uncertainty. In this paper, a novel robust design approach is proposed to design the robustness of the dynamic system under model uncertainty. The key idea of this proposed method is that it integrates the advantages of both the model-based dynamic robust design and the data-based uncertainty compensation. A simulation example is conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed robust design method.

Abstract:Model uncertainty, defined as the difference between the actual physical system and the computer model, is usually overlooked in robust optimization (RO). In addition, engineering systems are often comprised of several subsystems or disciplines. The coupling characteristic between different disciplines incurs the difficulty of solving multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO) problems. In this article, a new method is proposed for multidisciplinary robust design optimization (MRDO) incorporating parameter and model uncertainties. In this method, the parameter uncertainty is described by an interval model. The model uncertainty is quantified by the Bayesian approach, which adds a bias function into the computer model to offset the output discrepancy between the actual physical system and the computer model. Meanwhile, Gaussian process models of the computer model and the bias function are constructed. Finally, an MRDO framework considering parameter and model uncertainties is established. The performance of the proposed method is tested through two MDO problems.

Abstract:Under the theoretical support of fuzzy sets theory and confidence index, the proposed approach involves the development of a high‐order robust control method that incorporates optimization techniques to address uncertain systems. First, the utilization of fuzzy sets theory is employed to establish a fuzzy dynamical model. Second, the design of a high‐order robust controller is performed. Third, the design parameters are optimized based on confidence index, and the values are found that minimize the control cost. The simulation results show that this high‐order robust control has significant advantages in dealing with uncertainty, as well as minimizing the control cost. It can be ensured the uniform boundedness and uniform ultimate boundedness. Thus, this proposed method offers the advantage of achieving both robustness and optimality simultaneously.

Abstract:This study presents a parameter coordination and robust optimization approach based on knowledge network modeling. The method allows multidisciplinary designer to synthetically coordinate and optimize parameter considering multidisciplinary knowledge. First, a knowledge network model is established, including design knowledge from assembly, manufacture, performance, and simulation. Second, the parameter coordination method is presented to solve the knowledge network model, monitor the potential conflicts due to engineering changes, and obtain the consistency solution space corresponding to the given knowledge. Finally, the robust parameter optimization model is established, and genetic arithmetic is used to obtain the robust optimization parameter. A design instance is introduced to show the validity of this method.
A Global Solution for Robust Parameter Design of Aeronautical Electrical Apparatus Based on Interactions Analysis and Polynomial Fitting

Abstract:Robust Parameter Design (RPD) has been widely applied for improving quality and reli-ability of products. One of the key drawbacks of applying RPD using Taguchi method is that the stable factors may not be independent of the adjustment factors, resulting in unsatisfactory design. Moreover, the Taguchi method cannot guarantee global optimality since the levels set in the exper-iment are usually discrete to ensure orthogonal design. In this paper, robust solutions of the stable factors are obtained via a nonlinear model based on polynomial fitting; while the adjustment factors are obtained via interactions analysis so that they are independent of the stable factors. In partic-ular, the values of the adjustment factors are determined by output offset compensation so as to achieve robustness of the design scheme. An example on the design of an aeronautical electrical apparatus is presented to illustrate the procedure. The results show that the proposed method can take full advantage of the nonlinearity in the response and achieve the desired outcome.

Abstract:Robust design optimization holds the multiple aspects of the objective. In this paper the basic robust design model was established based on maximum variation estimation method; the multi-objective attribute of robust design was analyzed; the Pareto robust set was defined; the values of performance functions were adjusted with the combination of linear physical programming. Finally multi-objective robust design model which doesn't require presumed probability distribution of uncertain factors or continuous and differentiable of objective and constraints functions was constructed. An engineering example was provided and the results show that the proposed approach can ensure success of optimization and obtain the solution which reflects decision-maker's preference.

Abstract:To solve multiple response optimization problems that often involve incommensurate and conflicting responses, a robust interactive desirability function approach is proposed in this article. The proposed approach consists of a parameter initialization phase and calculation and decision-making phases. It considers a decision maker's preference information regarding tradeoffs among responses and the uncertainties associated with predicted response surface models. The proposed method is the first to consider model uncertainty using an interactive desirability function approach. It allows a decision maker to adjust any of the preference parameters, including the shape, bound, and target of a modified robust function with consideration of model uncertainty in a single and integrated framework. This property of the proposed method is illustrated using a tire tread compound problem, and the robustness of the adjustments for the approach is also considered. The new method is shown to be highly effective in generating a compromise solution that is faithful to the decision maker's preference structure and robust to uncertainties associated with model predictions.
