Abstract:The reaction of C60 with ozone in benzen results in the formation of C60 oxides. Two isomers of C60O were formed at 10��C, isolated and the UV-vis spectra of both isomers were obtained. The UV-vis spectrum of C60O(I) is same as C60O (C2v) and that of C60O(II) is in similar to theoretical one of C60O (Cs).

Abstract:The equilibrium geometries and relative stabilities of the 19 possible isomers of C84O were studied using density functional theory (DFT) at B3LYP/6-31G level. The most stable geometry of C84O at the ground state has been found to be 8,9-C84O, where the oxygen atom is added to the 6/6 bond and an annulene-like structure is formed. Based on the optimized geometries at B3LYP/6-31G level, the 13C chemical shifts and nucleus independent chemical shifts (NICS) of the isomers for C84O were calculated at B3LYP/6-31G level. Compared with those of C84 (D2d), the chemical shifts of the bridged carbon atoms in 8,9-C84O are changed upfield. The isomers of C84O with the annulene-like structures are more aromatic than those with the epoxy structures. The dependence of the NICS values in 8,9-C84O on the distance of the helium atom from the cage center toward the hexagon or pentagon was also explored.

Abstract:In this work we study the 6 j symbol of the 3 d conformal group for fermionic operators. In particular, we study 4-point functions containing two fermions and two scalars and also those with four fermions. By using weight-shifting operators and harmonic analysis for the Euclidean conformal group, we relate these spinning 6 j symbols to the simpler 6 j symbol for four scalar operators. As one application we use these techniques to compute 3 d mean field theory (MFT) OPE coefficients for fermionic operators. We then compute corrections to the MFT spectrum and couplings due to the inversion of a single operator, such as the stress tensor or a low-dimension scalar. These results are valid at finite spin and extend the perturbative large spin analysis to include non-perturbative effects in spin.

Abstract:We have constructed the three-body permutation symmetric O(6) hyperspherical harmonics which can be used to solve the non-relativistic three-body Schr{\" o}dinger equation in three spatial dimensions. We label the states with eigenvalues of the $U(1) \otimes SO(3)_{rot} \subset U(3) \subset O(6)$ chain of algebras and we present the corresponding $K \leq 4$ harmonics. Concrete transformation properties of the harmonics are discussed in some detail.

Abstract:The existence of a novel octahedral UO6 complex had been suggested by Pyykko et al [Pyykko, P.; Runeberg, N., Straka, M; Dyall, K. G Chem. Phys Lett 2000, 328, 415]. We have now investigated the stability, the geometric and electronic structures, and the vibrations of various UO6 molecules, using spin-orbit density functional and scalar-relativistic coupled-cluster approaches We find four different (meta-)stable species, namely D-3(2h)-UO2(eta(2)-O-2(center dot))(2) at lowest energy, C-3(2 nu)-UO4 center dot(eta(2)-O-2(center dot)) and D-1(3)-U(eta(2)-O-2)(3) at medium energies, and O-1(h)-UO6 at highest energy The decay of O-h-UO6 occurs via an activated spin-flip mechanism. The UO6 species correspond to local minima on singlet and triplet energy surfaces and might be trapped in noble gas matrices Experimentally, the four species might be identified through their vibrational spectra Uranium is best described as coordinated by oxygen atoms in various oxidation states as oxo O2-, oxido(I) O center dot-, peroxido O-2(2-), and superoxido O-2(center dot-) ligands. The occurrence of monovalent oxygen is remarkable The resulting characterization of the central ion as U-VI in all four cases does not fully reflect the electronic differences, nor the "valence-activity" of the U-6p(6) semicore shell

Abstract:A recursive method for construction of symmetric irreducible representations of O(2l+1) in the O(2l + 1) supset O(3) basis for identical boson systems is proposed. The formalism is realized based on the group chain U(2l + 1) supset U(2l- 1) x U(2), of which the symmetric irreducible representations are simply reducible. The basis vectors of the O(2l+1) supset O(2l-1) x U(1) can easily be constructed from those of U(2l + 1) supset U(2l-1) x U(2) supset O(2l-1) x U(1) with no boson pairs, from which one can construct symmetric irreducible representations of O(2l+1) in the O(2l-1) x U(1) basis when all symmetric irreducible representations of O(2l-1) are known. As a starting point, basis vectors of symmetric irreducible representations of O(5) are constructed in the O1(3) x U(1) basis. Matrix representations of O(5) supset O1(3) x U(1), together with the elementary Wigner coefficients, are presented. After the angular momentum projection, a three-term relation in determining the expansion coefficients of the O(5) supset O(3) basis vectors in terms of those of the O1(3) x U(1) is derived. The eigenvectors of the projection matrix with zero eigenvalues constructed according to the three-term relation completely determine the basis vectors of O(5) supset O(3). Formulae for evaluating the elementary Wigner coefficients of O(5) supset O(3) are derived explicitly. Analytical expressions of some elementary Wigner coefficients of O(5) supset O(3) for the coupling (tau, 0) x (1,0) with resultant angular momentum quantum number L = 2 tau+ 2 - k for k = 0, 2, 3,...,6 with a multiplicity 2 case for k = 6 are presented.

Abstract:Wave functions of sd interacting boson with definite F spin are constructed explicitly according to the group chain U(2N)superset of[U(N)superset of O(N)superset of O(3)]xSU(2). The model space is truncated with the restriction F = F-max and F = F-max-1. The model wave functions are used to calculate the energy levels, B(E2) values and B(M1) values for the F-spin multiplet W-184, Os-184, Pt-184, and Hg-184. It was found that the energy spectra can be reproduced quite well and the B(E2) and B(MI) values can be reproduced reasonably well. The F-spin configuration characteristics of the energy eigenfunctions are discussed. The truncation scheme is an efficient way to reduce the model space of IBA-2 and can be extensively employed to do practical calculations in the framework of IBA-2.

Abstract:Octet baryon axial, induced pseudoscalar, and pseudoscalar form factors are computed using a symmetry-preserving treatment of a vector x vector contact interaction (SCI), thereby unifying them with an array of other baryon properties and analogous treatments of semileptonic decays of pseudoscalar mesons. The baryons are treated as quark-plus-interacting-diquark bound states, whose structure is obtained by solving a Poincare-covariant Faddeev equation. The approach is marked by algebraic simplicity and involves no free parameters, and, since it is symmetry preserving, all consequences of partial conservation of the axial current are manifest. It is found that SCI results are consistent with only small violations of SU(3)-flavor symmetry, an outcome which may be understood as a dynamical consequence of emergent hadron mass. The spin-flavor structure of the Poincare-covariant baryon wave functions is expressed in the presence of both flavor-antitriplet-scalar diquarks and flavor-sextet-axial-vector diquarks and plays a key role in determining all form factors. Considering neutral axial currents, SCI predictions for the flavor separation of octet baryon axial charges and, therefrom, values for the associated SU(3) singlet, triplet, and octet axial charges are obtained. The results indicate that, at the hadron scale zeta H, valence degrees of freedom carry roughly 50% of an octet baryon's total spin. Since there are no other degrees of freedom at zeta H, the remainder may be associated with quark + diquark orbital angular momentum.

In current stellar models, a knowledge of that value to better than 10\% is desirable. Due to the practical issues, tremendous experimental and theoretical efforts over nearly 50 years are not able to reach this goal, and the published values contradicted with each other strongly and their uncertainties are 2 times larger than the required precision. To this end we have developed a Reduced R-matrix Theory, based on the classical R-matrix theory of Lane and Thomas, which treats primary transitions to ground state and four bound states as the independent reaction channels in the channel spin representation. With the coordination of covariance statistics and error propagation theory, a global fitting for almost all available experimental data of $^{16}$O system has been multi-iteratively analyzed by our powerful code. A reliable, accurate and self-consistent astrophysical S factor of {$^{12}$C($\alpha,\gamma$)$^{16}$O} was obtained with a recommended value $S_{tot}$ (300) = 162.7 $\pm$ 7.3 keV b (4.5\%) which could meet the required precision.

Abstract:Based on a set of "quasicomplete bases," using the large-scale multiconfiguration Dirac-Fock (MCDF) method, we calculate the forbidden electric quadrupole (E2) and magnetic dipole (M1) transition rates of the transitions D-2(5/2,3/2)o -> S-4(3/2)o of the O II ground state considering the quantum electrodynamics (QED) corrections. Our calculations demonstrate that the Breit interactions are most important among all the QED corrections. The calculated E2 and M1 transition rates converge in a systematical and uniform manner with the extending orbital basis and the calculation uncertainty of 2.5% is achieved by considering the valence-and core-excitation correlations totally. With the converged transition rates, a value of the intensity ratio between the two transitions in high-electron-density limit in planetary nebulas is given, that is, r(infinity) = 0.363 +/- 0.009, which is within the overlap of the different observations and with the least uncertainty up to now. In addition, the E2 and M1 transition rates of two transitions P-2(3/2,1/2)o -> S-4(3/2)o of O II ground state and the ratio between the two transition rates in high-electron-density limit are calculated and compared with the previous results.

Abstract:We investigate the three-dimensional O(2) model near the critical point by Monte Carlo simulations and calculate the major universal amplitude ratios of the model. The ratio U_0=A+/A- is determined directly from the specific heat data at zero magnetic field. The data do not, however, allow to extract an accurate estimate for alpha. Instead, we establish a strong correlation of U_0 with the value of alpha used in the fit. This numerical alpha-dependence is given by A+/A- = 1 -4.20(5) alpha + O(alpha^2). For the special alpha-values used in other calculations we find full agreement with the corresponding ratio values, e. g. that of the shuttle experiment with liquid helium. On the critical isochore we obtain the ratio xi+/xi-_T=0.293(9), and on the critical line the ratio xi_T^c/xi_L^c=1.957(10) for the amplitudes of the transverse and longitudinal correlation lengths. These two ratios are independent of the used alpha or nu-values.

Abstract:The equations of state for symmetric nuclear matter and pure neutron matter are investigated with the tensor-optimized Fermi Sphere method (TOFS) up to the density fm . This method is based on a linked-cluster expansion theorem, and the energy per particle of nuclear matter ( ) is calculated variationally with respect to the correlated nuclear matter wave function. We can study the density dependence of the many-body terms arising from the operator products, which contribute to . In order to clarify the relation between the many-body effects and short-range correlation, we take the spin-isospin dependent central NN interaction with a few GeV repulsion in the inner region. The EOS obtained by the TOFS method is reasonably reproduced, compared with other ab initio many-body methods. We found that the many-body terms (from the 2-body to 6-body ones) give sizable effects on E / A at higher density, and they play an important role in nuclear matter.

Abstract:A quantum mechanical calculation was performed to study the Translation-Vibration (T-V) energy transfer of a colinear OH+O/OD+O system, for which Delves' coordinates and R-matrix propagatation methods were applied to a Mulius-Blint potential energy surface. The calculated result of the T-V energy transfer probability shows strong oscillation phenomena and the collision delay time of the title system was in the 10(-15)-10(-12) s time scale. The kinetic isotope effect was discussed in this work too.

Abstract:Calculations are presented of vibrational absorption spectra for energy minimized structures of SixOy molecular clusters using density functional theory (DFT). The size of the clusters considered is relatively large compared to those silicon oxide clusters considered in previous studies. There are no known crystal structures for our silicon oxide clusters, and thus, their geometries were unknown. The energy minimization was extremely taxing having no good starting point geometries. This was overcome by using multiple choices of initial geometries. That valid energy minima were achieved was checked by noting that all vibrational frequencies at the minima were positive values. DFT can provide interpretation of absorption spectra with respect to molecular structure for excitation by electromagnetic waves at frequencies within the IR range. The absorption spectrum corresponding to excitation states of SixOy molecular clusters consisting of relatively small numbers of atoms should be associated with response features that are intermediate between that of isolated molecules and that of a bulk system. DFT calculated absorption spectra represent quantitative estimates that can be correlated with additional information obtained from laboratory measurements. The DFT software GAUSSIAN was used for the calculations of excitation states presented here.

Abstract:Equilibrium geometries, harmonic vibrational frequencies, infrared intensities and dipole moments have been calculated for a set of N2O4 isomers (trans-ONONO2, cis-ONONO2, cis-perp-trans ONOONO and trans-perp-trans ONOONO) by ab initio method at the MP2 level with the 6-31G∗ and 6-311G∗ basis sets. The calculated results satisfactorily reproduce the available experimental vibrational spectral features of trans- and cis-ONONO2. Calculations at the same levels indicate that two OO coupled isomers of ONOONO, namely cis-perp-trans and trans-perp-trans forms, are also true minima on the potential energy surface. Our ab initio results elucidate several trends involving relative energies, Mulliken population and bonding characteristics and suggest that two ONOONO isomers are covalently bound structures, while trans- and cis-ONONO2 isomers may be formed by a strong mixture of covalent and ionic bonding with nonplanar structures.

Abstract:The authors report a detailed quantum mechanical study of the state-to-state dynamics of the O +OH(nu(i)=0, j(i)=0)-> H+O-2(nu(f), j(f)) reaction on an accurate HO2(X(2)A '') potential energy surface. The scattering dynamics was treated using a reactant coordinate based Chebyshev real wavepacket method with full Coriolis coupling. A total of 84 partial waves were calculated in order to achieve convergence up to the collision energy of 0.17 eV. The differential cross section is near forward-backward symmetric, consistent with the complex-forming mechanism. The O-2 product was found to have a monotonically decaying vibrational distribution and highly excited and inverted rotational distributions, also consistent with the formation of the HO2 intermediate. These quantum mechanical results were compared with those obtained in earlier quasiclassical trajectory and statistical studies and it is shown that the statistical theory gives a reasonably good description of the product state distributions despite its inability to predict the total reaction cross section.
