Abstract:When studying signal reconstruction, the frames are often selected in advance as encoding tools. However, in practical applications, this encoding frame may be subject to attacks by intermediaries and generate errors. To solve this problem, in this paper, the erasure recovery matrices for data erasures and rearrangements are analyzed. Unlike the previous research, first of all, we introduce a kind of frame and its erasure recovery matrix M so that MI,Λ=Im×m, where Im×m is a unit matrix. In this case, we do not need to invert the matrix of the frame operator and the erasure recovery matrix, and this greatly simplifies reconstruction problems and calculations. Then three different construction algorithms of the above erasure recovery matrix M and the frame are proposed, and each of them has advantages. Furthermore, some restrictions on M so that the constructed frame and erasure recovery matrix M can recover coefficients from rearrangements are imposed. We prove that in some cases, the above M and frame can recover coefficients stably from m rearrangements.

Abstract:Let $I\subseteq \Bbb N$ be a finite or infinite set and let ${(x_n)_{n\in I}}$ be a frame for a separable Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}$. Consider transmission of a signal $h\in\mathcal{H}$ where a finite subset $(\langle h,x_n\rangle)_{n\in E}$ of the frame coefficients $(\langle h,x_n\rangle)_{n\in I}$ is lost. There are several approaches in the literature aiming recovery of $h$. In this paper we focus on the approach based on construction of a dual frame of the reduced frame $(x_n)_{n\in I\setminus E}$ which is then used for perfect reconstruction from the preserved frame coefficients $(\langle h,x_n\rangle)_{n\in I\setminus E}$. There are several methods for such construction, starting from the canonical dual or any other dual frame of ${(x_n)_{n\in I}}$. We implemented the algorithms for these methods and performed tests to compare their computational efficiency.

Error Concealment for Whole Frame Losses in H264

Abstract:An error concealment mechanism based on encoder and decoder was proposed for whole frame packet lost in network transmission.In decoder,some pixels were directly recovered from the previous frame according to the hypothesis of motion continuity.Each 4×4 block was classified to different types in order to recover other invalidated pixels.Then two different methods,one based on motion prediction and block match,another based on spatial interpolation,were used to recover the invalidated pixels.In encoder,both long reference frames and short reference frames were adopted.The reference frames were adjusted to stop error propagation by using the feedback of the receiver.Experimental results show that the method outperforms on both visual quality and peak signal-to-noise ratio(PSNR),and can be effective to stop error propagation.Meanwhile the method can satisfy the real time request.

Abstract:An error-resilient coding scheme (ERCS), which is used for still color image wireless transmission in industrial environment, is proposed in this paper. The basic idea is to embed a novel error protection mechanism into three-dimensional discrete cosine transform (3-D DCT). In other words, the ERCS provides a method to protect some high energy DCT coefficients. Some experimental results show that the ERCS can achieve a good trade-off between efficient compression performance and high reconstruction quality.

Abstract:This article considers recovery of signals that are sparse or approximately sparse in terms of a (possibly) highly overcomplete and coherent tight frame from undersampled data corrupted with additive noise. We show that the properly constrained l1-analysis optimization problem, called analysis Dantzig selector, stably recovers a signal which is nearly sparse in terms of a tight frame provided that the measurement matrix satisfies a restricted isometry property adapted to the tight frame. As a special case, we consider the Gaussian noise. Further, under a sparsity scenario, with high probability, the recovery error from noisy data is within a log-like factor of the minimax risk over the class of vectors which are at most s sparse in terms of the tight frame. Similar results for the analysis LASSO are shown. The above two algorithms provide guarantees only for noise that is bounded or bounded with high probability (for example, Gaussian noise). However, when the underlying measurements are corrupted by sparse noise, these algorithms perform suboptimally. We demonstrate robust methods for reconstructing signals that are nearly sparse in terms of a tight frame in the presence of bounded noise combined with sparse noise. The analysis in this paper is based on the restricted isometry property adapted to a tight frame, which is a natural extension to the standard restricted isometry property.

Abstract:This paper considers the nonuniform sparse recovery of block signals in a fusion frame, which is a collection of subspaces that provides redundant representation of signal spaces. Combined with specific fusion frame, the sensing mechanism selects block-vector-valued measurements independently at random from a probability distribution [Formula: see text]. If the probability distribution [Formula: see text] obeys a simple incoherence property and an isotropy property, we can faithfully recover approximately block sparse signals via mixed [Formula: see text]-minimization in ways similar to Compressed Sensing. The number of measurements is significantly reduced by a priori knowledge of a certain incoherence parameter [Formula: see text] associated with the angles between the fusion frame subspaces. As an example, the paper shows that an [Formula: see text]-sparse block signal can be exactly recovered from about [Formula: see text] Fourier coefficients combined with fusion frame [Formula: see text], where [Formula: see text].

Abstract:This paper introduces the restricted eigenvalue condition adapted to frame D (D-RE), which is a natural extension to the standard restricted eigenvalue condition. The D-RE condition is a relaxation of the D†-RIP, where D† = (DD*)-1 D is the canonical dual frame of D. We establish the D-RE condition for several classes of correlated measurement matrices, when the covariance matrix of row measurements satisfies the D-RE condition. Furthermore, by the D-RE condition, we get the error bounds in the analysis LASSO (ALASSO) and the analysis Dantzig Selector (ADS) under a sparsity scenario. In order to recover non-sparse signals, we consider the robust 12 D-nullspace property of correlated Gaussian matrices. Similarly, we get the error estimations in the ALASSO and the ADS in non-sparse case. The approximation equivalence between the ALASSO and the ADS is also established by calculating prediction loss difference.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the problem of recovering a signal from frame coefficients with erasures. Suppose that erased coefficients are indexed by a finite set E . Starting from a frame and its arbitrary dual frame, we give sufficient conditions for constructing a dual frame of so that the perfect reconstruction can be obtained from the preserved frame coefficients. The work is motivated by methods using the canonical dual frame of , which however do not extend automatically to the case when the canonical dual is replaced with another dual frame. The differences between the cases when the starting dual frame is the canonical dual and when it is not the canonical dual are investigated. We also give several ways of computing a dual of the reduced frame, among which we are the most interested in the iterative procedure for computing this dual frame.

Low-complexity frame importance modelling and resource allocation scheme for error-resilience H.264 video streaming

Abstract:In this paper, we addressed the problem of redundancy allocation for protecting packet loss for better quality of service (QoS) in real-time H.264 video streaming. A novel error-resilient approach is proposed for the transmission of pre-encoded H.264 video stream under bandwidth constrained networks. A novel frame importance model is derived for estimating relative importance index for different H.264 video frames. Combining with the characteristics of the network, the optimal resource allocation strategy for different video frames can be determined for achieving improved error resilience. The model uses frame error propagation index (FEPI) to characterize video quality degradation caused by error propagation in different frames in a GOP when suffer from packet loss. This model can be calculated in DCT domain with the parameters extracted directly from the bitstream. Therefore, the complexity of the proposed scheme is very low and much better for real-time video transmission. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can improve the receiver side reconstructed video quality remarkably under different channel loss patterns.

Abstract:Analog coding is a low-complexity method to combat erasures, based on linear redundancy in the signal space domain. Previous work examined "band-limited discrete Fourier transform (DFT)" codes for Gaussian channels with erasures or impulses. We extend this concept to source coding with "erasure side-information" at the encoder and show that the performance of band-limited DFT can be significantly improved using irregular spectrum, and more generally, using equiangular tight frames (ETF). Frames are overcomplete bases and are widely used in mathematics, computer science, engineering, and statistics since they provide a stable and robust decomposition. Design of frames with favorable properties of random subframes is motivated in variety of applications, including code-devision multiple access (CDMA), compressed sensing and analog coding. We present a novel relation between deterministic frames and random matrix theory. We show empirically that the MANOVA ensemble offers a universal description of the spectra of randomly selected subframes with constant aspect ratios, taken from deterministic near-ETFs. Moreover, we derive an analytic framework and bring a formal validation for some of the empirical results, specifically that the asymptotic form for the moments of high orders of subsets of ETF agree with that of MANOVA. Finally, when exploring over-complete bases, the Welch bound is a lower bound on the root mean square cross correlation between vectors. We extend the Welch bound to an erasure setting, in which a reduced frame, composed of a random subset of Bernoulli selected vectors, is of interest. The lower bound involves moment of the reduced frame, and it is tight for ETFs and asymptotically coincides with the MANOVA moments. This result offers a novel perspective on the superiority of ETFs over other frames.

Abstract:This paper discusses reconstruction of a signal from undersampled data in the situation that the signal is sparse or approximately sparse in terms of a (possibly) highly overcomplete and coherent tight frame D via the l1-analysis optimization problem. Some new sufficient conditions on the D -restricted isometry property are given to guarantee stable recovery of signals which are nearly sparse in terms of D, from undersampled data with minimal l1-norm of transform coefficients. One of the main results of this paper shows that if the D-restricted isometry constant δs of the measurement matrix A satisfies δs <; 0.307 , then signals which are approximately s-sparse in terms of D are guaranteed to be stably recovered via the l1-analysis optimization problem. We point out that with the lemmas and the proof techniques developed in this paper, most of the sufficient conditions on the standard restricted isometry property for stable recovery of nearly sparse signals via standard l1 -minimization, can be similarly extended to the general case of the D-restricted isometry property for stable recovery of signals that are nearly sparse in terms of D via the l1-analysis optimization problem, yielding weaker conditions than previously available in the literature.

Abstract:In this paper we demonstrate that there are distinct differences between real and complex equiangular tight frames (ETFs) with regards to erasures. For example, we prove that there exist arbitrarily large non-trivial complex equiangular tight frames which are robust against three erasures, and that such frames come from a unique class of complex ETFs. In addition, we extend certain results in \cite{BP} to complex vector spaces as well as show that other results regarding real ETFs are not valid for complex ETFs.

Abstract:In low bit-rate packet-based video communications,loss of packet usually results in whole-frame losses.The algorithm dealing with the problem of whole frame loss is proposed in this paper.Rational interpolation is firstly applied to generate accurate dense motion field based on decoded block-based motion field.Then the previous image pixels are projected onto missing frame along the motion vector direction.The identification of overlapped and occluded areas is also used to improve error concealment performance.Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms other techniques in peak signal-to-noise ratio(PSNR) and provides good visual quality.

Abstract:In wireless environment without assurance of quality of service, the video stream compressed by conventional video compress standards is vulnerable,especially in intra coded frame.So it is necessary to make modification on structure of conventional video stream in order to enhance its error resilience performance in wireless environment.In this paper,one method is proposed to improve robustness of intra coded frame in wireless transmission,it firstly analyze the sensitivity to error propagation of different segment in video stream when there are channel bit errors.And then with this analysis results and respective role of different segments of video stream on reconstruction of intra coded frame,important information for intra coded frame is determined.Finally,the proposed method exploits protection,extraction and aggregation of determined important information in intra coded frame to mitigate the extent of error propagation inside frame reference on traditional data partition error resilience algorithms.Experimental results with H.263+ baseline tested stream through addictive Gauss white noise wireless channel show that the proposed method outperforms reference method in subjective and objective quality obviously with little increasing of coding overhead and computation.
Sparse Recovery for Overcomplete Frames: Sensing Matrices and Recovery Guarantees

Abstract:Signal models formed as linear combinations of few atoms from an over-complete dictionary or few frame vectors from a redundant frame have become central to many applications in high dimensional signal processing and data analysis. A core question is, by exploiting the intrinsic low dimensional structure of the signal, how to design the sensing process and decoder in a way that the number of measurements is essentially close to the complexity of the signal set. This chapter provides a survey of important results in answering this question, with an emphasis on a basis pursuit like convex optimization decoder that admits a wide range of random sensing matrices. The results are quite established in the case signals are sparse in an orthonormal basis, while the case with frame sparse signals is much less explored. In addition to presenting the latest results on recovery guarantee and how few random heavier-tailed measurements fulfill these recovery guarantees, this chapter also aims to provide some insights in proof techniques. We also take the opportunity of this book chapter to publish an interesting result (Theorem 3.10) about a restricted isometry like property related to a frame.

Assuming that signal and corruption are contained in some structure-promoted set, we suggest an extended Lasso to disentangle signal and corruption. We also provide conditions under which this recovery procedure can successfully reconstruct both signal and corruption.

Abstract:Motivated by a host of recent applications requiring some amount of redundancy, frames are becoming a standard tool in the signal processing toolbox. In this paper, we study a specific class of frames, known as discrete Fourier transform (DFT) codes, and introduce the notion of systematic frames for this class. This is encouraged by a new application of frames, namely, distributed source coding that uses DFT codes for compression. Studying their extreme eigenvalues, we show that, unlike DFT frames, systematic DFT frames are not necessarily tight. Then, we come up with conditions for which these frames can be tight. In either case, the best and worst systematic frames are established in the minimum mean-squared reconstruction error sense. Eigenvalues of DFT frames and their subframes play a pivotal role in this work. Particularly, we derive some bounds on the extreme eigenvalues DFT subframes which are used to prove most of the results; these bounds are valuable independently.

Abstract:The performance of error concealment (EC) for damaged intra-frames (or I-frames) is very important for real time video transmission via error-prone network. Conventional algorithms essentially exploit either copying or interpolation from spatial neighbors and suffer from poor visual quality. This paper proposes an intra-frame EC adaptive algorithm framework (I-ECAF) which gives priority to temporal EC as the first, spatial copying as the second and spatial interpolation as the last. I-ECAF evaluates their feasibility by measuring the temporal or spatial similarity per a recent image quality metric, i.e., the weighted peak signal-to-noise ratio (WPSNR). Demonstrated by extensive experiments, the proposed I-ECAF gains attractive concealment accuracy, an increase from 0.06dB to 1.14dB of PSNR in comparison with the algorithm embedded within JM18.0.

Abstract:We consider estimating a random vector from its measurements in a fusion frame, in presence of noise and subspace erasures. A fusion frame is a collection of subspaces, for which the sum of the projection operators onto the subspaces is bounded below and above by constant multiples of the identity operator. We first consider the linear minimum mean-squared error (LMMSE) estimation of the random vector of interest from its fusion frame measurements in the presence of additive white noise. Each fusion frame measurement is a vector whose elements are inner products of an orthogonal basis for a fusion frame subspace and the random vector of interest. We derive bounds on the mean-squared error (MSE) and show that the MSE will achieve its lower bound if the fusion frame is tight. We then analyze the robustness of the constructed LMMSE estimator to erasures of the fusion frame subspaces. We limit our erasure analysis to the class of tight fusion frames and assume that all erasures are equally important. Under these assumptions, we prove that tight fusion frames consisting of equi-dimensional subspaces have maximum robustness (in the MSE sense) with respect to erasures of one subspace among all tight fusion frames, and that the optimal subspace dimension depends on signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). We also prove that tight fusion frames consisting of equi-dimensional subspaces with equal pairwise chordal distances are most robust with respect to two and more subspace erasures, among the class of equi-dimensional tight fusion frames. We call such fusion frames equi-distance tight fusion frames. We prove that the squared chordal distance between the subspaces in such fusion frames meets the so-called simplex bound, and thereby establish connections between equi-distance tight fusion frames and optimal Grassmannian packings. Finally, we present several examples for the construction of equi-distance tight fusion frames.
