Abstract:The nucleon-nucleon pairing forces were studied under the relativistic mean-field theory with the paring corrections by BCS approximation.The coupled equations of motion were solved by self-consistency with the interaction parameter set NL3.The gap parameters were fixed by reproducing ground state properties of 11950Sn,14058Ce,and 17871Lu.The properties of two medium isotope chains Ca and K and three heavy isotope chains Ce,Pr and Nd were investigated.The results indicated that the strength of the pairing forces Gn and Gp have a strong shell effects for the medium(N=20 and 28) and heavy nuclei(N=82) near the β stability line,thus a new method to search new magic numbers was provided.

Abstract:Aspects of alpha transfer reaction studies investigated during the last few years are discussed. In the mass region of alpha decaying nuclei reduced widths extracted from alpha pickup reactions are in very good agreement to those of alpha decay data. In the medium mass range four nucleon transfer data are interpreted in the framework of rather vivid models indicating a strong pair correlation. For lower mass systems the observed experimental quantities are reasonably predicted by SU(3) and shell model calculations. The influence of the interdependence of structure and reaction mechanism effects on amplitudes and shapes of angular distributions is discussed. The necessity of using a coupled reaction channels mechanism and its success for the description of natural and unnatural parity states is demonstrated for the lower mass range of sd-shell nuclei.

Abstract:Shell structure effects on α-cluster formation and decay are studied by using the quartetting wave function approach (QWFA). Both the intrinsic and center-of-mass (c.o.m.) motions of an α cluster inside a core nucleus are investigated with different contributing shell model wave functions. The overlap between intrinsic wave functions of four nucleons in the α-like quartet state and in a free α particle is analyzed in detail. The change of the effective potential describing the c.o.m. motion of the quartet is explicitly shown for the major shell closures Z=82 and N=126. It is found that both the α-cluster formation probability and the half-life are sensitive to the quartet shell model states. By extending the QWFA calculations from Po212 to α emitters with one or two extra nucleons, we show that the bound state and scattering wave functions of the α cluster are changed accordingly. The calculated α-decay half-lives agree nicely with the experimental data.

Abstract:We propose a microscopic calculation of fusion reactions for alpha + Au-197, alpha +Pb-208, alpha + Bi-209, and alpha +(238) U systems. Inspired by recent studies of a-cluster decay in radioactive nuclei [Phys. Rev. C 95, 061306(R) (2017)], a Pauli blocking term depending on the density overlap of projectile and target nuclei is introduced in addition to the strong and electromagnetic interactions between them. As compared to the a-core potential obtained from the double-folding potential with standard Michigan-3-Yukawa-Reid effective nucleon-nucleon interaction, the one including the Pauli blocking interaction results in a shallow "pocket" in the inner part. On account of highlighting the density dependence of Pauli blocking potential, we make a comparison of fusion cross sections between two extreme neutron density distributions of target nuclei, namely, (i) "skin type" with same diffuseness but different half-density radii in density distributions of proton and neutron, and (ii) "halo type" with same half-density radii but different diffuseness. The fusion cross sections resulting from the potential considering Pauli blocking effects are also compared with the experimental data in detail.

Abstract:We present a microscopic calculation of alpha-cluster formation in heavy nuclei by using the quartetting wave function approach. The interaction of the quartet with the core nucleus is taken in local density approximation. The alpha-cluster formation is found to be particularly sensitive to the interplay of the mean field felt by the alpha-cluster and the Pauli blocking as a consequence of antisymmetrization. The striking feature of alpha-cluster formation probability across the major shell closures of 82 protons and 126 neutrons is reproduced. The shell (or subshell) effects on the alpha-cluster formation in superheavy nuclei are also analyzed.

Abstract:This study employs the dinuclear system model (DNS-sysu) to investigate drift and fluctuation mechanisms in 136Xe + 209Bi collisions above the Coulomb barrier. The DNS-sysu model demonstrated its effectiveness in providing reasonable descriptions of drift and fluctuation dynamics for the multinucleon transfer reaction at low energies. We observe temperature-induced changes in the shell effect, impacting nucleon transfer. At higher energies, the weakening constraint of the potential energy surface leads to a reversal in the evolution direction. Additionally, the consideration of shell corrections notably affects fragment distribution at low energies but diminishes for high-energy conditions. This research provides valuable insights into understanding the macroscopic manifestation of nucleon transfer in the multinucleon transfer reaction.

Abstract:Within the alpha-cluster model, we particularly investigate the alpha decay of exotic nuclei in the vicinity of the N = 126 neutron shell plus the Z = 82 proton shell. The systematics of alpha-preformation probability（P α ）,as an indicator of the shell effect, is deduced from the ratio of the experimental decay width to the calculated one.Through the comparative analysis of the P α trend in the N = 124-130 isotonic chain, the N = 126 and Z = 82 shell closures are believed to strongly affect the formation of the alpha particle before its penetration. Additionally, the P α variety in Po and Rn isotopes is presented as another proof for such an influence. More importantly, it may be concluded that the expected neutron（or proton） shell effect gradually fades away along with the increasing valence proton（or neutron） number. The odd-even staggering presented in the P α value is also discussed.

Abstract:The nonlocalized cluster model provides a new perspective on nuclear cluster effects and has been applied successfully to study cluster structures in various bound states and quasibound states (i.e., long-lived resonant states). In this work, we extend the application scope of the nonlocalized cluster model further to resonant and scattering states. Following the R-matrix theory, the configuration space is divided into the interior and exterior regions by a large channel radius such that the nuclear forces and the antisymmetrization effects become negligible between clusters in the exterior region. In the interior region, the picture of nonlocalized clustering is realized mathematically by adopting the Brink-Tohsaki-Horiuchi-Schuck-Ropke wave functions as the bases to construct the interior wave functions. The Bloch-Schrodinger equation is used to match the interior wave functions continuously with the asymptotic boundary conditions of the resonant and scattering states at the channel radius, which leads eventually to solutions of the problem. As a first test of the formalism, the low-lying resonant states of (8) Be and the phase shifts of the alpha + alpha elastic scattering are studied. The numerical results agree well with the experimental data, which shows the validity of the theoretical framework.

Abstract:The clustering phenomenon in light stable nuclei is studied within the shell-model-like approach in relativistic mean field theory. The result reproduces a-clustering phenomenon in light stable nuclei by calculating Be-8, C-12, O-16, Ne-20. Comparison of our result with RMF calculation indicates that the pairing correlation could change the properties of clear ground state and lead to different alpha-clustering structure.

Abstract:The study of cluster structures in light nuclei is extending to the heavy nuclei in these years. As for the stable N = Z nuclei, from the lighter 8Be, 12C nuclei to the heavier 20Ne and even the 40Ca and 44Ti medium nuclei, the α cluster structures have been well studied and confirmed. In heavy nuclei, due to the dominated mean field, the existence of α cluster structure is not clear as light nuclei but some clues were found for indicating the core+α cluster structure in some nuclei, in particular, the 208Pb+α structure in 212Po. We review some recent progress about the theoretical and experimental explorations of the α-clustering effects in heavy nuclei. We also discuss the possible α cluster structure of heavy nuclei from the view of α decay.

Abstract:The hindrances in the n alpha-nucleus-induced fusion reactions at deep subbarrier energies are investigated by using the coupled-channels model. Inspired by the microscopic Pauli-blocking effects of alpha-cluster decay in radioactive nuclei, a Pauli blocking potential is constructed in the n alpha-nucleus-induced fusion reactions by using a single folding procedure, in which the n alpha nuclei are assumed to be consisted of alpha particles. A shallow pocket is formed in the inner part of the potential between two colliding nuclei as compared to the one obtained from the double-folding potential with standard Michigan-3-Yukawa effective nucleon-nucleon interaction. The experimental fusion cross sections are described well for fusion systems C-12 + Pt-198, O-16 + Pb-208, C-12 + Si-30, Mg-24 + Si-30, and Si-28 + Si-30. At deep subbarrier energies, it is found that this shallow pocket potential reduces the partial fusion cross sections and shields the contributions of high-angular-momentum partial waves to fusion cross sections. In addition, a detailed comparison of fusion processes with different projectiles C-12, Mg-24, and Si-28 on the same target 30Si shows the hindrance effect is stronger for heavier projectiles.

Abstract:We introduce our recent works on the clustering effects in atomic nuclear systems.The clustering structures for 20Ne and 9,10Be isotopes are studied with the Tohsaki-Horiuchi-Schuck-R(o)pke (THSR) wave function.It is found that a single THSR wave function can provide good description for the cluster state.The nonlocalised aspect of cluster dynamics is discovered with the hybrid-THSR-Brink wave function.Extensions are made for the THSR wave function to enable studies of N ≠ Z nuclei.The nuclear molecular orbit structures in low lying states of 9,10Be isotopes are correctly reproduced with this wave function.We also discuss the α-decay processes for proton/neutron-rich nuclei.The effect of proton/neutron skin is found to be considerable on α-decay half-life.

Abstract:If the effect of \ensuremath{\alpha} clustering due to the interaction of the excited correlated proton pair with correlated neutron pairs in medium and heavy nuclei were taken into consideration, quasiparticle energies would not be simply additive. The empirical values of the extra term \ensuremath{\delta}(\ensuremath{\alpha}) indicate that \ensuremath{\alpha} correlations exist to a certain extent in these nuclei.

Abstract:An extension of the generalized density-dependent cluster model (GDDCM) is presented to study alpha-cluster structure above doubly closed shells. In all cases, the microscopic alpha-core potential is numerically constructed in the double-folding model with CDM3Y6 nucleon-nucleon interactions plus proton-proton Coulomb interactions. The properties of intraband E2 transitions and alpha decays are calculated by the exact solution of the Schrodinger equation with appropriate boundary conditions. It is found that the enhanced B(E2) transition strengths are well reproduced without any effective charge and the calculations of alpha-decay properties show good agreement with the available experimental data. This indicates that the GDDCM has universal applicability and equal validity regardless of whether the alpha-cluster states are in light or heavy nuclei.

Abstract:Heavy-ion collisions at near-barrier energies provide a crucial pathway for investigating nucleon correlations and clustering structures. Recent experimental results showed that the valence neutrons in light projectiles obviously enhance the α transfer. This finding is extremely puzzling and fascinating, because it violates the ground-state Q value systematics unexpectedly. In this work, the time-dependent Hartree-Fock approach is utilized to investigate the cluster transfer. By comparing the reactions C12,14+Bi209 , we discover that above puzzling behavior is because of the strong correlation between isospin diffusion and clustering. Our calculations clearly show that the equilibrium of neutron-to-proton ratio strongly inhibits the clustering. Abstract:$\alpha$-cluster structures above double shell closures are among the cornerstones for nuclear $\alpha$-cluster physics. Semi-microscopic cluster models (SMCMs) are important theoretical models to study their properties. A crucial ingredient of SMCM is the effective potential between the alpha cluster and the doubly magic nucleus. We derive new double-folding potentials between $\alpha$ clusters and doubly magic nuclei from soft local chiral nucleon-nucleon potentials given by chiral effective field theory ($\chi$EFT) at the next-to-next-to-leading order. The $\alpha$-cluster structures in ${}^{8}\text{Be}$, ${}^{20}\text{Ne}$, ${}^{44,52}\text{Ti}$, and ${}^{212}\text{Po}$ are explored to validate these new double-folding potentials. The $\alpha$ decay of ${}^{104}\text{Te}$ is also studied in the light of recent experimental results. Our study shows that double-folding potentials from $\chi$EFT are the new reliable effective potentials for the SMCM approach to $\alpha$-cluster structures above double shell closures, with both conceptual and phenomenological merits.

Abstract:An effective alpha-particle equation is derived for cases where an alpha particle is bound to a doubly magic nucleus. As an example, we consider Po-212 with the alpha on top of the Pb-208 core. We consider the core nucleus infinitely heavy, so that the alpha particle moves with respect to a fixed center; that is, recoil effects are neglected. The fully quantal solution of the problem is discussed. The approach is inspired by the Tohsaki-Horiuchi-Schuck-Ropke wave function concept that has been successfully applied to light nuclei. Shell-model calculations are improved by including four-particle (alpha-like) correlations that are of relevance when the matter density becomes low. In the region where the alpha-like cluster penetrates the core nucleus, the intrinsic bound-state wave function transforms at a critical density into an unbound four-nucleon shell-model state. Exploratory calculations for Po-212 are presented. Such preformed cluster states are very difficult to describe with shell-model calculations. Reasons for the different physics behavior of an alpha-like cluster with respect to a deuteron-like cluster are discussed.

Abstract:Background: The existence of α ( He4 nucleus) clustering in the medium-mass region of nuclear systems is a fundamental and intriguing question. However, the recent analysis of the α knockout reaction on Ti48 [ Phys. Rev. C 103 , L031305 (2021)] poses a puzzle: The microscopic wave function gives an α knockout cross section that is two orders of magnitude smaller than the experiment, while basic nuclear properties such as the charge radius and the electromagnetic transition probabilities are well explained. Purpose: The ground-state structure of Ti48 is investigated by using proton- and α -nucleus elastic scattering at a few to several hundred MeV, which offers different sensitivity to the region of the nuclear density profiles. Method: Four types of density distributions, the jj -coupling shell model and three cluster model configurations, are generated in a single scheme by the antisymmetrized quasicluster model (AQCM). The angular distribution of the proton- and α−Ti48 elastic scattering cross sections are obtained with a reliable high-energy reaction theory, the Glauber model. Results: The jj -coupling shell model configuration is found to best reproduce the proton-nucleus elastic scattering cross section. On the other hand, the trace of the α cluster structure in the tail region of the wave function is embedded in the α -nucleus elastic scattering cross section. Conclusions: Our results suggest that the structure of the nucleus changes as a function of distance from the center, from the jj -coupling shell model structure in the surface region to the α+Ca44 cluster structure in the tail region. This picture is consistent with the finding of the α knockout reaction on Ti48 .
