Abstract:CdWO4 nanoparticles,nanorods,nanobundles,and nanowires were controllably synthesized via a hydrothermal method without any templates and surfactants using CdCl2,CdC2O4,CdCO3,(C6H5O7) 2Cd3,and Na2WO4 as raw materials.The as-prepared powders were characterized by XRD,TEM,HRTEM,and SAED.The results showed that the molar ratio of [WO42-]/[Cd2 +],reaction time,and the type of precursors had a crucial effect on the morphology and size of the products.

Abstract:In this paper, we report the controlled synthesis of SrCO3 crystals by a simple hydrothermal method without any surfactants and templates. The as-prepared samples were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The effect of pH value, temperature, and reaction time on the formation of SrCO3 crystals was investigated. This novel route is proved to be simple and environment-friendly, which can be extended to the shape-controlled synthesis of other metal oxide nanocrystals.

Abstract:Co3 O4 octahedra exposing eight ( 111 ) facets were hydrothermally synthesized with the assistance of C 2 O2-4 .The prepared samples were characterized and analyzed by means of XRD , SEM, TEM and HRTEM.The results indicate that the Co3O4 octahedra exhibited cubic phase with high crystallinity.The influence of reaction time, reaction temperature and C2O2 -4 concentration on the morphology of Co 3 O4 were investigated in detail .It is prove that C 2 O2-4 would preferably adsorb on the (111) facets of Co3O4 nuclei, which would then restrict the further growth of (111) facets due to the larger space of C2O2 -4 than hydroxyl groups leading to the exposure of (111) facets.The present Co3O4 octahedra could catalyze the thermal decomposition of ammonium perchlorate ( AP) effectively due to the exposure of high energy facets .

Abstract:PbMoO4 nanoparticles and pagodalike microcrystals have been controllably prepared by a simple sonochemical method without any surfactants. The as-prepared powders were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The results showed that the pH played a crucial role on the controllable synthesis of PbMoO4. Pagoda like microcrystals could be formed on acid condition, and nanocrystals were obtained in the case of pH 7 and pH 14. The synthesis mechanism was also discussed. Abstract:Mesoporous cobalt oxide (Co3O4) nanosheets (about 15 nm in thickness and about 1 mu m in width) with mostly pore sizes of 10-15 nm were obtained by heat treatment of hydrothermally-synthesized hydrothermal products at 300 degrees C. The compositions and morphologies of the hydrothermal products could be tailored by controlling the hydrothermal reaction temperature at a range of 120-200 degrees C and time. Quasi-sheet-like Co(OH)(2) is favored to form at 120 degrees C for 6 h through oriented attachment, and then slice sheets Co(NH3)(5)(ONO)(NO3)(2) and Co(CN)(2)center dot H2O were formed at over 150 degrees C for 6 h in water due to thermodynamic instability. Their sheets become thinner and more decentralized with the extension of the hydrothermal reaction time. The (CH3COO)(2)Co precursor was hydrothermally synthesized in ethanol. All of hydrothermal products were transformed into porous Co3O4 with similar morphologies after heat treatment. Mesoporous Co3O4 nanosheets displayed a Brunauer-EmmettTeller (BET) surface area of about 65 m(2) g(-1). Cyclic voltammetry (CV) results indicated mesoporous Co3O4 nanosheets have good electrochemical properties and show a specific capacitance (C-S) of 880 F g(-1) in 1 M KOH at a current density of 1 A g(-1).

Abstract:The morphology of nanostructures is a vital parameter to consider in components comprised of materials exhibiting specific functionalities. The number of process steps and the need for high temperatures can often be a limiting factor when targeting a specific morphology. Here, we demonstrate a repeatable synthesis of different morphologies of a highly crystalline monoclinic phase of vanadium dioxide (VO2(M)) using a one-step hydrothermal method. By adjusting the synthesis parameters, such as pH, temperature, and reducing agent concentration in the precursor, VO2 nanostructures with high uniformity and crystallinity are achieved. Some of these morphologies were obtained via the choice of the reducing agent that allowed us to skip the annealing step. Our results indicate that the morphologies of the nanostructures are very sensitive to the hydrazine hydrate (N2H4.H2O) concentration. Another reducing agent, dodecylamine, was used to achieve well-organized and high-quality VO2(M) nanotubes. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) experiments revealed that all samples display the monoclinic-to-tetragonal structural transition (MTST) regardless of the morphology, albeit at different temperatures that can be interpreted as the variations in overheating and undercooling limits. VO2(M) structures with a higher surface to volume ratio exhibit a higher overheating limit than those with low ratios.

Abstract:CoO truncated cubes were fabricated by a facile and inexpensive hydrothermal process.The assynthesized CoO truncated cubes were investigated by powder X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM).The effects of the growth conditions,such as reaction time and temperature,on the morphologies and structures of CoO have been investigated,showing the controlled synthesis of CoO truncated cubes in our work.In addition,a possible formation mechanism has been presented,indicating that ethanediol plays a role in obtaining CoO truncated cubes.

Abstract:One dimensional nanostructure materials of TiO2 were successfully synthesized by hydrothermal method. Their microscopic morphologies and crystal structures were investigated with scan electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques. It is found that the TiO2 nanoparticles, nanotubes and nanoribbons could be formed under different temperatures and pressures. XRD data confirmed that the obtained nanotubes and nanoribbons exhibited new crystallographic structures which were different from those of rutile and anatase. Analysis showed that they were the mixture of anatase TiO2 and trititanate. After the nanotubes and nanoribbons were annealed at 500℃ for 1 hour, their crystallographic structures all changed to anatase.

Abstract:In this paper, we report the obtention of MnWO4 nanocrystals with different shapes, such as: nanospheres, nanorods, and urchin-like microspheres were synthesized by a surfactant-free hydrothermal method. The as-obtained powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction patterns and transmission electron microscopy. XRD patterns indicate that these crystals have a wolframite-type monoclinic structure without deleterious phases. The TEM images revealed that the pH values and precursors played a key role in the morphology-controlled synthesis of MnWO4 nanocrystals. This green method is an effective approach to the controlled growth of MnWO4 nanocrystals with different shapes, which are of interest for both theoretical investigations and practical applications. Finally, a possible growth mechanism for the formation of the MnWO4 microcrystals with different shapes was discussed in detail.

Abstract:Recently, extensive works have been devoted to the morphology control of mesoporous materials with respect to their use in various applications. In this paper, we used two kinds of mesoporous silica, SBA-15 rods and spheres as hard templates to synthesize morphology-controllable mesoporous metal oxides. By carefully controlling the loading of metal precursors in the mesopores of the hard template, mesoporous Co3O4 and CeO2 with different morphologies, such as micrometer-sized rod, hollow sphere, saucer-like sphere, and solid sphere were conveniently obtained. The structural properties of these materials were characterized by XRD, BET, SEM and TEM. In addition, it is found that the differences observed in the textural properties of the two mesoporous metal oxides nanocasted from the same template can be attributed to the properties of metal precursors and the interaction between metal oxide and SiO2. Thus-obtained mesoporous metal oxides with such special morphologies may have a potential application in the field of environmental catalytic oxidation.

Abstract:A “direct mixing” synthesis strategy has been demonstrated for the first time that allows fast (e.g., 0.5 h) synthesis of bulk quantity of thermally stable and highly porous metal–organic coordination polymers (MOCP) nanocrystals (30–150 nm diameter) at room temperature with high yield (∼90%). The MOCP materials constructed from Zn(NO3)2·6H2O and 1,4-benzenedicarboxylic acid (H2BDC) were characterized with scanning electron microscope, powder X-ray diffraction, thermal gravimetric analysis, FT-IR, and volumetric Ar adsorption/desorption. The direct mixing method also produced a highly porous nanometer-sized MOCP material, which is likely to be a new phase that has not been discovered by the more commonly used “diffusion” approach. “Soft” and “hard” template approaches were used to successfully manipulate the morphology of MOCP materials at nanometer scale. In addition, water molecules were shown to play an important role in the synthesis and eventual composition of MOCP materials. Exposure of MOCP materials to water resulted in dramatic drop in surface area and porosity because of possible hydrolysis of the framework. An acid hydrolysis process of MOCP materials was also revealed in which the crystals could be hydrolyzed back into metal salts and organic acid under acid treatment.
Novel three-dimensional Co3O4 dendritic superstructures: Hydrothermal synthesis, formation mechanism and magnetic properties

Abstract:Well-defined porous Co3O4 nanodendrites have been synthesized by a simple one-pot hydrothermal method combined with subsequent calcination. Importantly, after thermal treatment, the dendritic morphology could be completely preserved. The as-obtained superstructures are characterized by several techniques, such as powder X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoemission spectroscopy, elemental analysis, transmission electron microscopy, high-resolution TEM and magnetometry. On the dendritic hierarchical structures, a number of nanorods with different lengths and widths are connected to the main trunk with a diameter of about 50 nm and length of several micrometers. Each branch is about 0.5-1.0 mm with a width ranging from 100 to 400 nm. The possible formation mechanism was proposed on the basis of the contrasting experiments. It demonstrated that trisodium citrate and acetone play important roles in the synthesis of Co3O4 nanodendrites, while the other reaction parameters, such as reaction temperature, concentration of trisodium citrate and reaction time, have close relationships with the final morphology of the Co3O4 products. Optical properties of Co3O4 nanodendrites were characterized by Raman and UV-vis spectroscopy. Magnetic property measurement shows that Co3O4 nanodendrites have a low Neel transition temperature of 35 K. The as-prepared mesoporous Co3O4 nanostructures are expected to have great applications in many fields.

Abstract:Single-crystal MnWO4 nanowires were successfully prepared for the first time via a simple hydrothermal method without any surfactants. The as-prepared products were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), selected area electron diffraction (SAED), and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). The effect of pH value, precursor, and reaction temperature on the formation of MnWO4 nanocrystals was investigated. The precursor was found to be vital to the formation of MnWO4 nanowires. It is rational to expect that one-dimensional nanostructures of other tungstates may also be synthesized by this simple method.

Abstract:Co(3)O(4) with three different crystal plane structures - cubes bounded by {001}planes, truncated octahedra enclosed by {111} and {001} planes, and octahedra with exposed {111}planes - is synthesized using a very simple one-step hydrothermal method. The three kinds of Co(3)O(4) exhibit significantly different electrochemical performances and the effect of different exposed crystal planes on the electrochemical performance of Co(3)O(4) is comprehensively studied.

Abstract:Template-free synthesis of TiO 2 architectures with controlled morphology evolution has been developed through solvothermal reaction in 1,4-dioxane. By simply varying the molar ratio of the concentrated HCl over Titanium isopropoxide (TTIP) from 0 to 5.0, series of morphologies including nanoparticle-built microspheres, nanoparticle-built microspheres decorated with nanorods, nanorod cauliflowers, and nanorod dendrites have been obtained. The influence of several key factors on the morphology control of TiO 2 has been systematically investigated. These parameters include the mass (molar) ratio of HCl/TTIP, solvothermal reaction temperature and time, acid species (concentrated nitric acid), and solvent type (tetrahydrofuran and 1,3-dioxane). The mechanism for the formation of the TiO 2 architectures with controlled morphology evolution has been discussed. The application of the TiO 2 architectures as water splitting photocatalyst and lithium–ion battery anode has been demonstrated. And the corresponding structure–property correlation has been discussed.

Abstract:Films of brucite-type cobalt hydroxide with nanorod morphology and hydrotalcite-type cobalt hydroxide with nanosheet morphology films were fabricated by heterogeneous nucleation in a chemical bath using water and a mixed solution of water-methanol as solvents, respectively. Since oxygen is around 25 times more soluble in methanol than in water, a methanol solution was used to convert a part of divalent cobalt ions into trivalent cobalt ions through oxidation, due to the amount of dissolved oxygen. The resultant cobalt hydroxides were of the hydrotalcite type, with a sheet-like morphology, and di- and trivalent cobalt ions. On the other hand, brucite-type hydroxides with a rod morphology, constructed using only divalent cobalt ions, were fabricated due to the scarcity of dissolved oxygen in a water-only solvents. Both the brucite and hydrotalcite types of cobalt hydroxide films were transformed into Co3O4 through pyrolysis without nanostructural deformation. The Co3O4 films were porous structures with a large surface area because both rod and sheet were constructed through nanoparticles and nanopores once the self-template was removed.
Hydro-solvothermal preparation of monodisperse CoO octahedrons

Abstract:A facile and environmentally friendly hydro-solvothermal synthesis of monodisperse CoO octahedrons was reported.Morphology,composition,dimension and microstucture were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),energy dispersive spectrum(EDS) and transmission electron microscopy(TEM).The results showed that the as-obtained samples are phase-pure and well-crystalline,easily indexed as the face-center cubic structure.Resuts also indicated that the CoO octahedrons are uniform in size and shape,as well as single-crystalline.The reaction conditions were investigated to the controlled synthesis of CoO octahedrons and the possible formation mechanism was discussed.

Abstract:The flower-like Cu 2 O nanostructures were hydrothermally synthesized without using any template or surfactant. The influences of hydrothermal temperature, reaction time and reactants concentrations on the growth of nanostructures were investigated in detail. The samples were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray powder diffraction (XRD). Cu 2 O crystals with different shapes, i.e., flower-like (F-product) cubic box (CB-product) and cubic box with holes in each face (CBH-product), were synthesized by controlling the synthesis parameters and explored for CO catalytic oxidation. It was found that F-product showed higher catalytic than others.

Abstract:Highly crystalline orthorhombic Bi2MoO6 particles with high visible-light photocatalytic activity have been controllably synthesized via a facile hydrothermal process without adding any surfactant. The morphologies of Bi2MoO6 with nanosheet and microrod can be selectively obtained by adjusting the pH value of the reactant. The formation mechanisms of nanosheet and microrod structures were then discussed based on the H+ cations adsorption abilities on different crystal faces. The Bi2MoO6 samples prepared at acidic condition showed 12 times higher photocatalytic activity than that prepared at basic condition under visible-light irradiation. The reason for the big difference in the photocatalytic activities for the Bi2MoO6 samples obtained at different pH values were systematically studied based on their shape, size and the variation of local structure.
