Abstract:The effects of correlations between additive and multiplicative noises in a saturation laser model are investigated. The approximative Fokker–Planck equation and analytic expressions of the steady-state probability distribution function (SPD) of the laser system are derived. Based on the SPD, the normalized mean, the normalized variance, and the normalized skewness of the steady-state laser intensity are calculated numerically. Our results indicate that: (i) For the laser being operated above threshold, the correlation strength λ reduces the intensity fluctuation; (ii) For the laser being operated near threshold and below threshold, the correlation strength λ enhances the intensity fluctuation.

Abstract:Considering a saturation laser model with cross-correlated additive and multiplicative noises, we derive the stationary probability distribution function P-st(I), the stationary intensity correlation function C(s) and the associated relaxation time T-c by virtute of the Novikov theorem and Stratonovich's decoupling ansatz. Based on numerical computation, we discuss the effects of the correlation strength lambda, the cross-correlation time tau, and the noises intensity. The correlation strength lambda attenuates the probability distribution and increases the intensity fluctuation of the laser system. The correlation strength lambda and the noise intensity D and Q speed up the relaxation of the system from an arbitrary state to the steady state and enhance the stability of the laser intensity output. For the case of negative correlation ( lambda < 0), the cross- correlation tau enhances the probability distribution, decreases the intensity fluctuation, slows down the relaxation of the system from an arbitrary state to the steady state, and decreases the stability of the laser intensity output; by contrast, the effects of the cross-correlation time tau on P-st(x), C(s), and T-c are entirely opposite for (lambda > 0).
Comparative Study of Various Quasiprobability Distributions in Different Models of Correlated-Emission Lasers.

Abstract:We make a comparative study of various quasiprobability distributions in phase-sensitive quantum-optical systems. Starting from a general, linear master equation for the field, which emerges in different models of correlated-emission lasers, we derive the Fokker-Planck equations in the Glauber-Sudarshan P, the antinormal ordering Q, the Wigner W, the complex P, and the positive P representations and find the steady-state solutions for the five distributions. Simple relations between the complex and positive P functions are discovered for the first time. Various moments calculated by using these distributions are found to be identical, as expected. An application of these distributions to the two-photon correlated-emission laser shows that the intracavity field can be near-perfectly squeezed in the phase quadrature and the maximum quadrature squeezing is reached when the mean laser amplitude vanishes.
Green's Dyadic, Spectral Function, Local Density of States, and Fluctuation Dissipation Theorem

Abstract:The spectral functions are studied in conjunction with the dyadic Green's functions for various media. The dyadic Green's functions are found using the eigenfunction expansion method for homogeneous, inhomogeneous, periodic, lossless, lossy, and anisotropic media, guided by the Bloch- Floquet theorem. For the lossless media cases, the spectral functions can be directly related to the photon local density of states, and hence, to the electromagnetic energy density. For the lossy case, the spectral function can be related to the field correlation function. Because of these properties, one can derive properties for field correlations and the Langevin-source correlations without resorting to the fluctuation dissipation theorem. The results are corroborated by the fluctuation dissipation theorem. An expression for the local density of states for lossy, inhomogeneous, and dispersive media has also been suggested.

Abstract:In a recent letter,1 it was shown that a two-photon correlated-spontaneous-emission laser (two-photon CEL) can generate a macroscopic intensity of light which is squeezed in the phase quadrature. The two-photon CEL, in which coherently pumped, cascade three-level active atoms interacting with a single mode of the radiation field, is an active device exhibiting phase locking and squeezing in the phase quadrature of the field. To further understand the quantum properties of the field in the two-photon CEL, it is helpful to obtain some quasiprobability distribution functions for the two-photon CEL.

Abstract:It has recently been shown that correlated spontaneous emission lasers (CEL) exhibit transient entanglement in the linear regime. Here we re-examine the quantum correlations in two-photon CEL and explore the saturation effects on continuous variable entanglement. It is shown that the steady state entanglement is obtainable in the weak or moderate saturation regime, while is washed out in the deep saturation regime.

Abstract:There are many similarities between the degenerate parametric oscillation1,2 (DPC)) and two-photon correlated-spontaneous emission laser3,4 (CEL). Both have the capability of producing a squeezed state. In particular, a maximum 50% intracavity squeezing can be obtained at threshold, and the squeezing will decrease above threshold for both cases. These similarities motivated us to investigate the connection between them.

Abstract:According to the field characteristics of laser pulse scattering from a random rough surface, laser pulse incoherence scattering characteristics and a covariance function of the scattered intensity fluctuation are investigated numerically using the integral transform, an error function and the statistical moments of random variables.For an incident laser pulse, numerical methods are used to calculate the coherent and incoherent scattering characteristics and the covariance function of the fluctuation in scattering intensity with the coherence bandwidth frequency and scattering angle, considering multiple factors such as the mean of fluctuating heights, the coherence length of a random rough surface, and the incidence angle.Results show that for the incident laser pulse, a smaller mean of the fluctuating height and a longer correlation length correspond to a smoother surface and larger maximum peak values of coherent and incoherent scattering components in the specular direction.The incoherent scattering peak value decreases more rapidly in the non-specular direction, and incoherent scattering components are an order of magnitude smaller than coherent scattering components.The distribution of the covariance function of the scattering field intensity fluctuation gradually reduces with an increase in the coherence bandwidth frequency difference, having a maximum peak value in the specular direction as the coherence bandwidth difference tends to zero.This paper presents innovative results that emphasize the incoherent scattering characteristics and the covariance function of the scattered intensity fluctuation for the further study of the fourth-order moment statistical characteristic of laser pulse scattering from a rough surface.Future works investigate other high-order statistical moments of laser pulse scattering from a rough surface and laser speckle in laser detection applications.scattering from rough surface, laser pulse scattering, the fourth order moment statistical characteristics, the incoherence scattering characteristics, the scattered intensity fluctuation, covariance function

Abstract:Two- and three-mode correlation and squeezing of spontaneous parametric four-wave mixing (SPFWM) and fourth-order fluorescence (FL) composite signals are investigated theoretically and experimentally in both homonuclear (two-level) and heteronuclearlike (V-type level) molecular systems of Pr3+: YSO. By selecting different time positions, changing the power, and changing the frequency detuning of the laser field, the competition between the composite signals is demonstrated. It is found that as the laser parameters change, the signal evolves from a nonlinear.(4) process resulting in a FL signal to a SPFWM signal (.(3) process). In addition, the competition effect between the signals determines the evolution of the shape of the correlation from a pure sharp to a two-stage (mixed) shape and finally to a pure broad peak amplitude. Furthermore, the signal evolution determines the magnitude of squeezing, which can control the noise level. Such progress may find potential applications in optical hybrid communication and information processing.

Abstract:The effect of the non-linear interaction between the high density Wannier excitons is analysed. We use the Fokker-Planck equation in the positive P presentation and the corresponding stochastic differential equation to study the composite system of a single mode cavity field and exciton under classical field pumping. The small fluctuation approximation is made to get the quadrature squeezing spectra of the output light field. The conditions for the squeezing of the either quadrature component of the output light are given.

Abstract:We show that in a double two-photon correlated-spontaneous-emission laser, generation of squeezed light is compatible with atomic inversion by using the atomic coherence between two lower levels. The resulting device can yield, via resonant stimulated amplification, bright beams of squeezed light.

Abstract:We use the positive P representation approach to treat the nonlinear problem of a two-photon correlated-spontaneous-emission laser. An approximate positive P function is obtained in steady state. We discuss the influence of the laser intensity on squeezing and find that squeezing in the phase quadrature decreases with increasing laser intensity near the laser threshold.

Abstract:Photon statistics for a laser is obtained by applying the standard laser theory. The condition to achieve a peak width less than that of a Poisson distribution has been discussed. It is shown that under certain conditions it is possible to obtain subpoissonian statistics in a laser.

Abstract:We investigate how the squeezed thermal state (STS) and squeezed number state (SNS) evolve undergoing decoherence in the laser process. Remarkably, the initial SNS, an example of a pure state, evolves into a mixed state, which turns out to be a Laguerre polynomial of combination of creation and annihilation operators within normal ordering; however, the STS, a mixed state, still keeps squeezed and thermal. At long times, these fields lose their nonclassical nature and decay to a highly classical thermal field. The normally ordered density operators of such states in the laser channel lead to deriving the analytical time-evolution expressions of the Wigner functions (WFs). Their nonclassicality is investigated in reference to the time-evolution WFs, which indicates that both of the WFs decay to the same thermal WF as a result of decoherence when the decay time t or the cavity loss kappa of the laser is large enough. Abstract:We assess the extent of similarity between pairs of probability distributions that arise naturally in quantum optics. We employ the Wasserstein distance, the Kullback-Leibler divergence and the Bhattacharyya distance to compare different states of light. We investigate the effectiveness of these quantifiers in identifying nonclassical effects such as wave packet revival phenomena and sudden changes in entanglement in generic bipartite systems. The calculations are carried out on relevant optical tomograms, circumventing state reconstruction.

Effect of Atomic Distribution on Cooperative Spontaneous Emission

Abstract:We study cooperative single-photon spontaneous emission from N multilevel atoms for different atomic distributions in optical vector theory. Instead of the average approximation for interatomic distance or the continuum approximation (sums over atoms replaced by integrals) for atomic distribution, the positions of every atom are taken into account by numerical calculation. It is shown that the regularity of atomic distribution has considerable influence on cooperative spontaneous emission. For a small atomic sample (compared with radiation wavelength), to obtain strong superradiance not only needs the uniform excitation (the Dicke state) but also requires the uniform atomic distribution. For a large sample, the uniform atomic distribution is beneficial to subradiance of the Dicke state, while the influence of atomic distribution on the timed Dicke state is weak and its time evolution obeys exponential decay approximately. In addition, we also investigate the corresponding emission spectrum and verify the directed emission for the timed Dicke state for a large atomic sample.

Abstract:The Glauber-Sudarshan, Wigner and Husimi quasiprobability distributions are indispensable tools in quantum optics. However, although mathematical relations between them are well established, not much is known about their operational connection. In this paper, we prove that a single composition of finite-strength quantum limited amplifier and attenuator channels, known for their noise-adding properties, turns the Glauber-Sudarshan distribution of any input operator into its Wigner distribution, and its Wigner distribution into its Husimi distribution. As we dissect, the considered process, which can be performed in a quantum optical laboratory with relative ease, may be interpreted as realizing a quantum-to-classical transition.

Abstract:The laser wakefield acceleration (LWFA) is a highly significant phenomenon within the realm of high-energy physics and the study of interactions between lasers and plasmas. This research is aimed at conducting a thorough comparative analysis of two distinct pulse shapes, namely, Gaussian and sinh-Gaussian, in order to examine their individual effects on the production and propagation of wakefield in plasma. The research utilizes analytical techniques to evaluate the wake potential, wakefield, and electron energy gain that are produced. The research findings demonstrate that the selection of pulse form has a substantial impact on the development of wakefield and their corresponding characteristics. The utilization of a sinh-Gaussian pulse with a greater decentered parameter ( b = 2) is deemed highly appropriate for the purpose of wakefield creation and the subsequent augmentation of electron energy. It provides valuable insights for researchers who are interested in fully utilizing laser-driven plasma wakefield for a variety of applications, including high-energy particle accelerators and compact radiation sources.

Abstract:We study the Wigner distributions for a physical electron, which reveal the multidimensional images of the electron. The physical electron is considered as a composite system of a bare electron and photon. The Wigner distributions for unpolarized, longitudinally polarized and transversely polarized electron are presented in transverse momentum plane as well as in impact-parameter plane. The spin–spin correlations between the bare electron and the physical electron are discussed. We also evaluate all the leading twist generalized transverse momentum distributions (GTMDs) for electron.

Abstract:For the density operator（mixed state） describing squeezed chaotic light（SCL） we search for its thermal vacuum state（a pure state） in the real-fictitious space. Using the method of integration within ordered product（IWOP） of operators we find that it is a kind of one- and two-mode combinatorial squeezed state. Its application in evaluating the quantum fluctuation of photon number reveals: the stronger the squeezing is, the larger a fluctuation appears. The second-order degree of coherence of SCL is also deduced which shows that SCL is classic. The new thermal vacuum state also helps to derive the Wigner function of SCL.
