Abstract:Using a readily available form of the mono-phosphine ligand, Gorlos-Phos center dot HBF4, Pd-catalyzed borylation of aryl chlorides afforded aryl boronates in high yields. A variety of functional groups are well compatible with this palladium catalyzed borylation reaction.

Abstract:With the readily available Gorlos-Phos as a ligand, unsymmetrical biaryls were prepared efficiently from Pd-catalyzed one-pot two-step cross-coupling of two different aryl chlorides in the presence of B(2)Pin(2), tolerating functional groups such as aldehyde, ketone, ester, ether, nitrile, amide, fluorine, sulphonyl and trifluoromethyl groups. Besides the substituted phenyl chlorides, hetero-aryl chlorides, 1-chloronaphthalene, and dichlorobenzenes could also be applied. The cytotoxicity against human lung cancer A549 cells for some of the compounds has been studied.

Abstract:Decarbonylative borylation of carboxylic acids is reported. Carbon electrophiles are generated directly after reagent-enabled decarbonylation of the in situ accessible sterically-hindered acyl derivative of a carboxylic acid under catalyst controlled conditions. The scope and the potential impact of this method are demonstrated in the selective borylation of a variety of aromatics (>50 examples). This strategy was used in the late-stage derivatization of pharmaceuticals and natural products. Computations reveal the mechanistic details of the unprecedented C-O bond activation of carboxylic acids. By circumventing the challenging decarboxylation, this strategy provides a general synthetic platform to access arylpalladium species for a wide array of bond formations from abundant carboxylic acids. The study shows a powerful combination of experiment and computation to predict decarbonylation selectivity.

Abstract:We herein report the iridium-catalyzed enantioselective C-H borylation of aryl chlorides. A variety of prochiral biaryl compounds could be well-tolerated, affording a vast array of axially chiral biaryls with high enantioselectivities. The current method exhibits a high turnover number (TON) of 7000, which represents the highest in functional-group-directed asymmetric C-H activation. The high TON was attributed to a weak catalyst-substrate interaction that was caused by mismatched chirality between catalyst and substrate. We also demonstrated the synthetic application of the current method by C-B, ortho-C-H, and C-Cl bond functionalization, including programmed Suzuki-Miyaura coupling for the synthesis of axially chiral polyarenes.

Abstract:Herein, we report a catalyst system for Pd-catalyzed decarbonylative Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling of aroyl chlorides with boronic acids to furnish biaryls. This strategy is suitable for a broad range of common aroyl chlorides and boronic acids. The synthetic utility is highlighted in the direct late-stage functionalization of pharmaceuticals and natural products capitalizing on the presence of carboxylic acid moiety. Extensive mechanistic and DFT studies provide key insight into the reaction mechanism and high decarbonylative cross-coupling selectivity.

Abstract:Boric acid, B(OH)3, is proved to be an efficient hydroxide reagent in converting (hetero)aryl halides to the corresponding phenols with a Pd catalyst under mild conditions. Various phenol products were obtained in good to excellent yields. Abstract:The defluoroborylation of fluoroarenes by chromium-catalyzed cleavage of unactivated C–F bonds is described. The reaction uses HBpin as the boron source, low-cost and commercially available chromium salt as the precatalyst, and terpyridine as crucial ligand, providing a protocol with atom-efficient benefits and a wide range of applicable substrates for the functionalization of aryl C–F bonds. Preliminary mechanistic studies indicate an unprecedant Cr-catalyzed magnesation of unactivated C–F bond occurred. The generated arylmagnesium intermediates then participated in the subsequent borylation reaction. The application of the stratey in the preparation of valuable derivatives is demonstrated by the late-stage functionalization of boronate ester groups.
