Abstract:In sharp contrast to the well researched and well developed aminocarbonylation of alkenes, the dearomative carbamoylation of abundant arene pi-systems has scarcely been studied despite its great potential to enrich the diversity-oriented synthesis of high-value amides. The formidable challenges associated with such dearomatization include the low reactivity of stable aromatic pi-systems and intricate selectivity issues. Herein, we disclose a general approach toward highly selective dearomative carbamoylations of arene pi-bonds under CO-gas-free strated by tolerating a broad range of nucleophilic partners with high yields and excellent selectivities, thus providing modular access to the divergent synthesis of beta-functionalized primary amides. In addition, diverse downstream derivatizations including a for-mal C-H 1,2-olefination/carbamoylation reaction were conducted, exhibiting great potential in syn-thetic and medicinal chemistry.

Abstract:Hydrocarbonylation of conjugated dienes is one of the most promising yet challenging methods for the synthesis of carbonyl compounds. Herein, we reported the development of an unprecedented palladium-catalyzed branched selective 3,4-hydroaminocarbonylation of 1,3-dienes with CO and amines hydrochloride to afford β,γ -unsaturated amides. This reaction employs readily available starting materials (including anilines, amines, amino acids, peptides, aryl-1,3-dienes, alyl-1,3-dienes) and tolerates a wide range of functional groups, thus providing a facile and effective approach to access a diverse array of α -substituted β,γ -unsaturated amides. Mechanistic investigations suggested that the hydropalladation of dienes is irreversible, and the insertion of CO into the allyl-Pd species is probably the rate-limiting step.

Abstract:Herein, we report our recent result on the development of the selective catalytic method towards the synthesis of β,γ-unsaturated imides via Pd-catalysed hydroamidocarbonylation of conjugated dienes. Note that this reaction proceeds under acid additive free conditions. Various dienes, including those of high industrial value (e.g. isoprene, 1,3-butadiene), are shown to be compatible with our established method (28 examples, 40-99% yield), which leads to the corresponding β,γ-unsaturated imides in a highly efficient and atom-economic fashion.

Abstract:Carbonylation reactions constitute important methodologies for the synthesis of all kinds of carboxylic acid derivatives. The development of novel and better catalysts for these transformations is of interest for both academic and industrial research. Here, a benign palladium-based catalyst system for the alkoxycarbonylation of conjugated dienes under acid-free conditions has been developed. This atom-efficient transformation provides straightforward access to a variety of β,γ-unsaturated esters in good to excellent yields and often with high selectivities. As an industrially relevant example the (formal) synthesis of dimethyl adipate and ε-caprolactam from 1,3-butadiene is demonstrated.

Abstract:Allylamines are important building blocks in the synthesis of bioactive compounds. The direct coupling of allylic C-H bonds and commonly available amines is a major synthetic challenge. An allylic C-H amination of 1,4-dienes has been accomplished by palladium catalysis. With aromatic amines, branch-selective allylic aminations are favored to generate thermodynamically unstable Z-allylamines. In addition, more basic aliphatic cyclic amines can also engage in the reaction, but linear dienyl allylic amines are the major products.

Abstract:1,2-Dichloroethane, a widely produced chemical raw material, has attracted considerable attention due to its versatility in various applications. Herein, we report an efficient strategy for the synthesis of acrylamides via palladium-catalyzed carbonylation, using 1,2-dichloroethane and amines as starting materials. The catalytic system demonstrated remarkable tolerance towards a broad range of amines, producing the corresponding acrylamides in good to excellent yields. Remarkably, a variety of aromatic and alkyl amines were completely converted within 40 minutes, delivering the target products with an impressive 99% yield. Additionally, the strategy's versatility was confirmed by its successful application in the synthesis of functionalized acrylates. Importantly, the reaction was scaled up to 1 mmol scale with consistent yields, underscoring its potential for practical use in organic synthesis.
