Abstract:Six new iridoid glycosides were isolated from the ethyl acetate fraction of the whole plants of Hedyotis diffusa Willd. They were identified as E -6- O-p -methoxycinnamoyl-10- O -acetyl scandoside acid methyl ester ( 1 ), Z -6- O-p -methoxycinnamoyl-10- O -acetyl scandoside acid methyl ester ( 2 ), E -6- O -caffeoyl scandoside methyl ester ( 3 ), E -6- O - p -coumaroyl-6′- O -acetyl scandoside methyl ester ( 4 ), Z -6- O - p -coumaroyl-6′- O -acetyl scandoside methyl ester ( 5 ), and E -6- O - p -coumaroyl-4′- O -acetyl scandoside methyl ester ( 6 ). The structures of them were elucidated based on unambiguous spectroscopic data (UV, IR, HRESIMS, and NMR). They were screened for anti-inflammatory effect, antioxidant effect, antitumor effect, and neuroprotective effect and did not show potent activities.

Abstract:Five new dibenzocyclooctadiene lignans, schisphenlignans A-E (1-5), together with eight known ones, were isolated from the stems of Schisandra sphenanthera. The structures of 1-5 were elucidated based on the analysis of their NMR, MS and circular dichroism (CD) spectra. Some isolates were tested for their acute activities on insulin sensitivity in 3T3-L1 differentiated adipocytes, but none of them showed significant bioactivity with 10 mu M administration of the tested compounds.

Abstract:Four new tetrahydrofuran lignans, schpropinrins A-D ( 1–4 ), together with five known ones, were isolated from the leaves and stems of Schisandra propinqua var. sinensis . Their structures, including absolute configurations, were characterized by means of spectroscopic analysis and ECD calculation. Compounds 1–4 featured a ketal or hemiketal substructure at C-7 and all of the isolates were tested for their anti-HIV integrase activity.

Abstract:Three novel bisflavonol derivatives, Hovenianins A-C, along with 12 known flavonoids were isolated and identified from the seeds of Hovenia dulcis Thunb. Their structures were established on the basis of spectroscopic methods (MS, UV, IR, 1D and 2D NMR) and electronic circular dichroism experiments. Hovenianin A (1) was the first dimer of flavonol linked dihydroflavonol via the B rings at C-2' and C-2″'positions to be found in nature. While Hovenianins BC (2-3) were a pair of diastereoisomeric bis-dihydroflavonols firstly reported in the Hovenia genus. The in vitro antiviral activity against respiratory syncytium virus (RSV) were evaluated by cytopathic effect (CPE) reduction assay. As a result, compounds 4, 5, and 10 displayed better antiviral effect against RSV A2 strains.

Abstract:Two new phenolic glycosides (1-2), along with six existing compounds (3-8), were isolated from the ethanolic extract of Ilex pubescens roots, a traditional folk medicine. These structures were determined using HR-ESI-MS, IR, UV, and NMR (including 1 D, 2 D-NMR). The anti-inflammatory activities of three phenolic glycosides (1-3) were evaluated in the human HepG2 cell lines. The results showed that compound 3 could induce P-gp and BCRP expression through the Nrf2-mediated pathway.

Abstract:A first phenalenon derivative with an acetyl side chain at C-8, 8-acetyl-9-hydroxy-3-methoxy-7-methyl-1-phenalenon (compound 1), and a pair of new sesquilignan epimers at C-7 '' of hedyotol C and hedyotol D analogs, hedyotol C 7 ''-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (compound 2) and hedyotol D 7 ''-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (compound 3) were isolated from the aerial parts of Helicteres angustifolia together with nine known compounds (4-12). Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic methods, including mass spectroscopy, and 1D and 2D nuclear magnetic resonance. Eleven isolates exhibited anti-complementary activity. In particular, compounds 4 and 5 exhibited potent anti-complementary activities against the classical and alternative pathways with CH50 values of 0.040 +/- 0.009 and 0.009 +/- 0.002 mM, and AP(50) values of 0.105 +/- 0.015 and 0.021 +/- 0.003 mM, respectively. The targets of compounds 4 and 5 in the complement activation cascade were also identified. In conclusion, the anti-complementary components of H. angustifolia possessed chemical diversity and consisted mostly of flavonoids and lignans in this study.

Abstract:The corneal ulcers and perforations which inevitably occur with severe alkali burns have been prevented in six of eight eyes by the use of collagenase inhibitors. This indicates that collagenase is the cause of the ulcers and suggests an effective treatment for alkali burns and other ulcered states of the cornea where collagenase has been isolated.

Their structures were elucidated by NMR, HR-MS, CD, ORD experiments and chemical methods. Compounds 2, 3, 6, and 17 exhibited significant inhibitory effects on the nitric oxide production in lipopolysaccharide activated C57BL6/J mouse macrophages.

Abstract:Eleven previously undescribed guaian-8,12-olides, hedyolides A‒K ( 1 − 11 ) featuring a characteristic 5,7,5-fused tricyclic and possessing different degrees of unsaturation and oxygen substitution patterns, were isolated from the leaves and twigs of Hedyosmum orientale . In particular, compounds 6 and 10 are rare chlorinated guaianolides of plant origin. Their structures and absolute configurations were elucidated by a combination of spectroscopic analysis, quantum chemical calculations, DP4+ probability, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. All compounds exhibited inhibitory effects on nitric oxide production in lipopolysaccharide-induced RAW 264.7 macrophages with IC 50 values ranging from 1.22 to 6.51 μM.

Abstract:Three new phenolic compounds (1–3), together with 16 known compounds (4–19), were isolated from the roots of Glycyrrhiza yunnanensis Cheng f. et L. K. Dai. On the basis of 1D and 2D NMR, HR-ESI-MS, and circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopic analysis, structures of the new compounds were elucidated as 2-(2′-methoxy-4′-hydroxy)-aryl-3-methy-6-hydroxy-benzofuran (1), (2S)-6,7-(2,2-dimethyldihydropyrano)-8-prenyl-4′-hydroxyflavanone (2), and 6-prenyl-7,3′,4′-trihydroxyflavone (3). Compounds 1, 3, 5, 12, 14, 15 and 16 showed antioxidant activity by an ABTS-based assay.

Abstract:A new phenolic digycoside 1 was produced as stress metabolite in the fresh leaves of Viburnum ichangense (HEMSL.) REHD., in response to abiotic stress elicitation by CuCl2. The stress metabolite was characterized as 1-O-[alpha-L-arabinofuranosyl(1 -> 6)-beta-D-glucopyranosyl]-erythro-1,2-bis(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)propane-1,3-diol (1). A new flavan dimer, 2,3-epoxyflavan-3',4',5,7-tetraol-(4 -> 8 '')-flavan-3 '',3''',4''',5''',6 ''-pentaol (2), and two known compounds, hovetrichoside A (3) and asperglaucide (4), were also isolated. Their structures were established by spectroscopic means.

All structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods (NMR, MS, UV and IR). Anti-platelet aggregation activities of compounds 1 - 5 were also tested.

Abstract:Five new (1-5) and twelve known (6-17) different types of glycosides together with a known sesquiterpene triol (18) were isolated from the methanol extract of the rhizomes of Notopterygium incisum. The new structures were elucidated by means of spectroscopic and chemical methods to be pregn-5-en-3 beta,20(S)-diol- 3-O-bis-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(l -> 2,1 -> 6)-beta-D-glucopyranoside (1), oleuropeic aldehyde 8-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (2), 2(R)(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)-propane-1,3-diol-1-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (3), eudesman-3 alpha, 4 alpha, 11-triol-11-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (4), and marmesin-11-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 -> 6)-beta-D-glucopyranoside (5). The absolute configuration of the aglycone in compound 3 was assigned by application of Klyne's rule.

Abstract:Objective: To investigate the value of spectral computed tomography quantitative parameters in the assessment of pathological grade of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma before operation. Methods: The imaging findings of 52 patients with confirmed esophageal squamous cell carcinoma by surgery and pathology were prospectively analyzed in Henan Provincial People's Hospital from June 2016 to May 2017.There were 43 males and 9 females, aged 49-76 years, with an average age of (66±8) years.All the patients were divided into three groups based on the pathological finding: well-differentiated group (n=12), moderately-differentiated group (n=20), poorly-differentiated group (n=20). All the patients received chest plain scan and double phase enhanced scan of gemstone spectral computed tomography.The enhancement attenuation (HU), the average of the slope of the spectral Hounsfield Unit curve (λ(HU)), normalized iodine concentration (NIC), normalized effective atomic number (Z(eff-a)) were measured and calculated.The difference in HU, λ(HU), NIC, Z(eff-a) among different grades were statistically analyzed.The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to evaluate the diagnostic efficiency of single and combined parameters in the differentiation of poorly-differentiated and well-moderately differentiated esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. Results: There were significant differences in HU, λ(HU), NIC, Z(eff-a) among different pathological grading of the esophageal squamous cell carcinoma in arterial phase and venous phase (F=4.496-9.056, H=23.204, 20.724, all P<0.05). The best single parameter to differentiate poorly-differentiated from well-moderately differentiated esophageal squamous cell carcinoma was NIC in arterial phase with areas under the ROC curve (AUC), the cutoff value, sensitivity, specificity, accuracy of 0.860, 0.197, 65.0%, 96.9%, 84.6%, respectively; the best combination of parameters was HU+ NIC+ λ(HU) in arterial phase with AUC, the threshold of predicted probability, sensitivity, specificity, accuracy of 0.913, 0.380, 85.0%, 81.3%, 82.7%, respectively. Conclusion: Gemstone spectral imaging quantitative parameters can be used to evaluate the pathological grading of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, the NIC and HU+ NIC+ λ(HU) in arterial phase have the highest differential diagnostic efficiency.
