Abstract:A new phenolic glycoside (1), named methyl 2-phenylpropanoate-2-O-β-D-apiofuranosyl-(1→6)-O-β-D–glucopyranoside, was isolated from the barks of Cinnamomum cassia, along with three known phenolic glycosides and four known lignan glycosides. The structure of 1 was elucidated by extensive interpretation of spectroscopic data and chemical method. Selected compounds were evaluated for their immunosuppressive activities against murine lymphocytes. Compounds 1, 2, 6 and 8 exhibited differential inhibition against ConA-induced T cells proliferation.

Abstract:Four new compounds, maninsigins A-D (1-4), including two new neolignans (1-2) and two new sesquiterpenes (3-4), as well as ten known compounds (5-14), were isolated from the leaves and stems of Manglietia insignis. Their structures were established on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analyses. In addition, some compounds were tested for their cytotoxic and neurite outgrowth-promoting activities, as well as their antagonistic activity toward FXR ligand.

Abstract:Three new compounds, including two new diterpenoids, named epianhydrocinnzeylanol (1) and cinnacasiol H (2), and one hydroxylasiodiplodin, (3R,4S,6R)-4,6-dihydroxy-de-O-methyllasiodiplodin (3), together with five known diterpenoids (4–8) and two known phenolic glycosides (9–10) were isolated from the barks of Cinnamomum cassia. Their structures were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic analysis and comparison of the chemical shift values with those of related known compounds. The anti-inflammatory activities of the isolates were evaluated on nitric oxide production in lipopolysaccharide-induced BV-2 microglial cells and the compounds showed weak inhibition activities.

Abstract:Six new phenylpropanoid glycosides (1-6), two new phenylethanol glycosides (7 and 8), one new phenylmethanol glycoside (9), three new phenylpropanoid dimers (10-12), two new phenylpropanoid-flavan-3-ol heterodimers (13 and 14), and six known relevant compounds (15-20) were isolated and identified from the well-liked edible and medicinal substance (the bark of Cinnamomum cassia (L.) J.Presl). The structures of these isolates were determined by using spectroscopic analyses, chemical methods, and quantum chemical calculations. Notably, compounds 4-9 were rare apiuronyl-containing glycosides, and compounds 13 and 14 were heterodimers of phenylpropanoids and flavan-3-ols linked through C-9″-C-8 bonds. The antioxidant and α-glucosidase inhibitory activities of all isolates were evaluated. Compounds 10 and 12 exhibited DPPH radical scavenging capacities with IC50 values of 20.1 and 13.0 μM, respectively (vitamin C IC50 value of 14.3 μM). In the ORAC experiment, all these compounds exhibited different levels of capacity for scavenging free radicals, and compound 10 displayed extraordinary free radical scavenging capacity with the ORAC value of 6.42 ± 0.01 μM TE/μM (EGCG ORAC value of 1.54 ± 0.02 μM TE/μM). Compound 12 also showed significant α-glucosidase inhibitory activity with an IC50 of 56.3 μM (acarbose IC50 of 519.4 μM).

Abstract:Five new dibenzocyclooctadiene lignans, schisphenlignans A-E (1-5), together with eight known ones, were isolated from the stems of Schisandra sphenanthera. The structures of 1-5 were elucidated based on the analysis of their NMR, MS and circular dichroism (CD) spectra. Some isolates were tested for their acute activities on insulin sensitivity in 3T3-L1 differentiated adipocytes, but none of them showed significant bioactivity with 10 mu M administration of the tested compounds.

Abstract:A new eudesmanolide 13-hydroxy-4 alpha H-eudesman-5,7(11)-dien-12,8 beta-olide (1) and a new aromatic derivative 3-methyl-8-acetoxy-9,10-diisobutanoyloxy-p-cymene (6), along with ten known compounds were isolated from the roots of Carpesium cernuum L. Their structures were elucidated by spectral methods (IR, EIMS, FAB-MS, 1D and 2D NMR). Compound 2, 3 and compound 10 exhibited moderate antibacterial activity against Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus.

Abstract:Two new compounds, cinnamic aldehyde cyclic D-galactitol 3'R,4'S-acetal (1) and cinnamomumolide (2), along with six known compounds, syringaresinol (3), lyoniresinol (4), 5,7,3'-trimethoxyl-(-)- epicatechin (5), 5,7-dimethoxyl-3',4'-di-O-methylene-(+/-)- epicatechin (6), 2-methoxyl-4-hydroxy cinnamyl aldehyde (7), and glucosyringic acid (8), have been isolated from the dried tender stems of Cinnamomum cassia. Their structures were elucidated based on spectroscopic data. Compound 2 was elucidated as 8-methoxyl-9-hydroxy-3',4'-methylenedioxy-3S, 4R-diphenyl butyrolactone, named cinnamomumolide, which exhibited activity in protecting against the injury caused by hydrogen peroxide oxidation on human umbilical vein endothelial cells, with an EC50 value of 10.7 mu M. Compounds 3-8 were isolated from the title plant for the first time.

Abstract:Objective To study the chemical constituents from the barks of Cinnamomum cassia.Methods Silica gel,ODS,Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography,and semi-preparative HPLC were used to isolate the compounds.The structures of the compounds were identified on the basis of their physicochemical properties,spectroscopic data,and with the literature.Results Fifteen compounds were isolated from the barks of C.cassia growing in China,including cinnzeylanine(1),anhydrocinnzeylanine(2),anhydrocinnzeylanol(3),cinnzeylanol(4),()-lariciresinol(5),evofolin B(6),5′-medioresinol(7),(+)-syringaresinol(8),2-hydroxyl cinnamie acid(9),1,10-seco-4ζ-hydroxy-muurol-ene-1,10-diketone(10),()-epicatechin(11),kaempferol(12),proanthocyanidin A2(13),stigmasterol(14),and stearic acid(15).Conclusion Compounds 5—7 and 10 are lignans isolated from the plant for the first time,and compounds 1—4 are ryanodanediterpenes isolated from the barks of C.cassia growing in China for the first time.

Abstract:Three new xanthanolides, 1-3, along with nine known compounds, were isolated from the aerial parts of Carpesium longifolium. The structures of the new compounds were elucidated as 1beta,4beta-epoxy-5beta-hydroxy-10alphaH-xantha-11(13)-en-12,8beta-olide (1), 1beta,4beta,4alpha,5beta-diepoxy-10alphaH,11alphaH-xantha-12,8beta-olide (2), and 4-acetoxy-1beta,5beta-epoxy-10alphaH-xantha-11(13)-en-12,8beta-olide (3) by spectroscopic methods including IR, EIMS, HRESIMS, and 1D and 2D NMR experiments. Parthenolide and michelenolide exhibited significant cytotoxic activity against cultured SMMC-7721 (human hepatoma) and HO-8910 (human ovarian carcinoma) cells.

Abstract:Cinnacassides A–E (1–5), five novel glycosides with a unique geranylphenylacetate carbon skeleton, were isolated from the stem bark of Cinnamomum cassia. Each of the cinnacassides A–D (1–4) possesses one of the four stereoisomers in the aglycone. Abstract:Three new stilbenoids, namely two rare plant-derived phenanthrenes denominated Cajananthrenes A and B ( 1 , 2 ) and one bibenzyl named Cajanbenzyl ( 3 ), together with a diphenyl ether derivative designated Cajanether ( 4 ), as well as five other known compounds ( 5 - 9 ) were isolated from the ethanolic extract of the leaves of Cajanus cajan . Their structures were determined through extensive spectroscopic analysis including UV, IR, NMR (1D and 2D) and HRESIMS as well. A plausible biogenesis pathway was proposed for the biosynthesis of compounds 1 - 3 . Compounds 1 and 2 displayed moderate anti-inflammatory activity as evident from the inhibitory effect on NO production in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 macrophages with IC 50 values of 73.6 and 44.6 μM respectively.

Abstract:Three novel lignan glycosides, 1-[4-(β-glucopyranosyl (1→2)-[β-glucopyranosyl (1→6)]-β-glucopyranosyloxy)-3-methoxyphenyl]-2-[4-(3-hydroxypropyl)-2-methoxyphenoxy]-1,3-propanediol (1), 2,3-dihydro-2-[4-(β-glucopyranosyl (1→2)-[β-glucopyranosyl (1→6)]-β-glucopyranosyloxy)-3-methoxyphenyl]-3-(hydroxymethyl)-7-methoxy-5-benzofuranpropanol (2), 7-hydroxy-9′-β-glucopyranosyloxyl secoisolariciresinol (3) and two known lignans were isolated from exocarp of Castanea henryi. Their structures were established by spectroscopic means, and their tyrosinase inhibitory potentials were evaluated in vitro using mushroom tyrosinase.

Abstract:Phytochemical investigation of Caragana tangutica Maxim. resulted in the isolation of ten flavonoids, melilotocarpan A (1), medicarpin (2), maackiain (3), 2-(2′4′-dihydroxyphenyl)-3-methyl-6-methoxy benzofuran (4), cajanin (5), formononetin (6), 7,3′-dihydroxy-5-methoxy isoflavone (7), texasin (8), 2′,4,4′-trihydroxy chalone (9) and bolusanthin III (10), as well as one aromatic acid, p-ethoxy benzoic acid (11). Compounds 1, 4, 9, 10 and 11 were isolated for the first time from the genus Caragana. The chemotaxonomic significance of these compounds was summarized.

Abstract:An EtOAc fraction from the roots of Caragana tangutica Maxim. (CTEA) displayed promising anti-hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) activity during screening of a traditional Chinese ethnic herb library against HepG2 and Hep3B cell lines. HPLC-based activity profiling of CTEA by combination of MS-guided large-scale semi-preparative HPLC and NMR methods led to the identification of a new pterocarpan glycoside, (-)-maackiain 3-O-6'-O-methyl malonyl-β-d-glucopyranoside (1), together with three known pterocarpan glycosides, (-)-maackiain 3-O-β-d-glucopyranoside (2), 3-O-6'-O-acrylyl-β-d-galactopyranoside (3), and (-)-maackiain 3-O-6'-O-acetyl-β-d-glucopyranoside (4). Compound 1 was isolated during a drug discovery programme aimed at identifying new anti-HCC leads from a natural product library. Anti-HCC study showed that all four compounds exhibited cytotoxic activity with IC50 values range of 29.1-53.5 μg/mL against HepG2 and Hep3B cell lines.

Abstract:Ten previously undescribed glycosides, carissaedulosides A–J (1–10) referring to six apiosylated phenylpropanoids (1–6), one coumarin-secoiridoid hybrid (7), and three furofuran lignans (8–10) were isolated from the root barks of Carissa edulis, together with 13 known analogues (11–23). Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic analysis, ECD computational methods, and chemical derivations for configurations of sugar moieties. The new lignan bisdesmoside, 10, exhibited significant cytotoxicity against A549 (IC50 = 3.87 ± 0.03 μM) and MCF-7 (IC50 = 9.231 ± 0.290 μM) cell lines, while the known lignan monodesmoside, 12, showed impressive cytotoxic efficacy (IC50 = 5.68 ± 0.180 μM) against only MCF-7 cell line. It is noted that a known cardenolide, 11, displayed strong cytotoxic potency against HL-60, A549, MCF-7 and SW480 cell lines with IC50 values ranging from 0.023 to 0.137 μM. Moreover, compound 11 induced dose-dependent apoptosis on SW480 cell, but not explicit dose-dependent apoptosis on HL-60 cells.

Abstract:The phytochemical investigation of the pericarps of Caesalpinia bonduc led to the isolation and identification of five new cassane-type alkaloids: caesalminines C − G ( 1 – 5 ) and six new diterpenoids: caesalbonducin K − P ( 6–11 ), along with seven known compounds ( 12 – 18 ). Compounds 1 – 5 were identified as a group of rare alkaloids possessing a tetracyclic cassane-type diterpenoid skeleton with a lactam D-ring instead of a typical furan or lactone moiety. The structures of 1 – 11 were elucidated on the basis of 1D and 2D NMR including HSQC, HMBC, COSY and NOESY, and other spectroscopic analyses. The cytotoxic activities of the isolated compounds were evaluated in the A431, A549 and U87MG cancer cell lines.
