Abstract:Four new Zn(II) and Cu(II) coordinated polymers ([ZnL2N3]ClO4 (1), [Cu2L2(CH3CN)]Cl4 (2) [CuL](NO3)2 (3), [Cu(H2O)L](SO4) (4) L=2-((4-phenyl-2H-1,2,3-triazol-2-yl)methyl) pyridine (ptmp)) have been reported. All the compounds have been characterized by IR spectrum, elemental analyses and X-ray crystallography diffraction. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses show that one-dimensional polymers are formed in these four complexes. Chain-like structures are formed in complex 1, 2 and 3, which are connected by azide, chloride and nitrate anions, respectively. In complex 4, one-dimensional left-handed polymer is formed by a μ2-SO4 bridge. The fluorescent and electrochemical properties of these four complexes were investigated. It was found that these three Cu(II) complexes displayed a quenching of fluorescence, while Zn(II) complex exhibited a clear enhanced fluorescence.

Abstract:Three new Keggin polyoxometalate (POM)-based compounds linked to 3d metal complexes have been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions: [Cu(phen)2]2{[Cu(phen)]2 [SiMo12O40(VO)2]} (1), {[Zn(phen)2]2[GeMo12O40(VO)2]}{[Zn(phen)2(H2O)]2 [GeMo12O40(VO)2]}·3H2O (2) and {[Co(phen)2]2[PMo12O40(VO)2]}{[Co(phen)2(OH)]2 [PMo12O40(VO)2]}·2.5H2O (3) (phen=1,10-phenanthroline). These three compounds present, as building blocks, the bicapped Keggin anions [XMo12O40(VO)2] (X=Si, Ge and P). Compound 1 consists of a bicapped Keggin anion [SiMo12O40(VO)2]2− linked to two [Cu(phen)]+ complexes with two [Cu(phen)2]+ countercations. Compound 2 contains two bicapped Keggin anions [GeMo12O40(VO)2]4−, one linked to two [Zn(phen)2(H2O)]2+ cations and the other one linked to two [Zn(phen)2]2+ cations. Compound 3 is a two-dimensional POM-based square network formed by bicapped Keggin anions [PMo12O40(VO)2]4− connected by [Co(phen)2]2+ cations. Discrete bicapped Keggin anions [PMo12O40(VO)2] linked to two [Co(phen)2(OH)]+ cations are located between the layers. The magnetic properties show the presence of antiferromagnetic interactions among the reduced Mo(V) atoms (in the three compounds) plus a paramagnetic contribution from the V(IV) atoms (in 1 and 2). Compound 3 shows, in addition, an antiferromagnetic interaction between the Co(II) and the V(IV) ions directly linked through an oxygen bridge. The low-temperature ESR spectra of compound 3 confirm the presence of the reduced Mo(V) ions and the antiferromagnetic coupling between the Co(II) and the V(IV) ions.

Abstract:By using a V-shaped multidentate N-donor ligand, four new octamolybdate-based inorganic-organic hybrids, formulated as [Cu-4(H3X)(4)(H2O)(2)(beta-Mo8O26)(2)]center dot 7H(2)O (1), [Cu-2(H2X)(beta-Mo8O26)(0.5)]center dot H2O(2), [Co(H3X)(2)(H4Mo8O28)] (3) and [Ni(H3X)(2)(H4Mo8O28)] (4) (H2X = 2,6-dimethyl-3,5-bis(pyrazol-3-yl)pyridine), have been synthesized successfully under hydrothermal conditions and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction analyses, elemental analyses and IR spectra. Compounds 1 and 2 with helical chains exhibit threedimensional (3D) frameworks with (3,4)-connected {8(3)}(2){8(5);10} and (3,4,6)-connected {4;6(2)}(2){4(2);6(4)}(2){4(2);6(8);8(2);10(3)} topologies, respectively. Compounds 3 and 4 are isostructural, in which [H4Mo8O28](4-) clusters act as bidentate ligands to join 1D {[M(H3X)(2)](4+)}(n) (M = Co or Ni) chains to generate a 2D layer. Moreover, the luminescent properties of compounds 1 and 2 have been investigated. The electrochemical study displays that compound 3 could be used as electrocatalysts in the electrical reduction of nitrite.

Abstract:By the approach of target synthesis, three infinitely extended hybrid compounds based on the saturated Keggin polyoxoanions have been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions: {[Co(phen)(2)](2)[(SiMO8Mo4O40)-Mo-VI-O-VI((VO)-O-IV)(2)]}{[Co(phen)(2)(H2O)](2)[(SiMo8Mo4O40)-Mo-VI-O-V ((VO)-O-IV)(2)]} center dot 3H(2)O (1),{[Co(phen)(2)](2)[(GeMo8Mo4O40)-Mo-VI-O-V((VO)-O-IV)(2)]}{[Co(phen)(2)(H2O)](2)[(GeMo8Mo4O40)-Mo-VI-O-V((VO)-O-IV)(2)]}4.8H(2)O (2)and [Ni(phen)(2)][(SiMo10Mo2O40)-Mo-IV-O-V((VO)-O-IV)(2)] center dot 2trea center dot 2H(2)O (3) (phen = 1,10-phenanthroline, trea = triethylamine). The isostructural compounds 1 and 2 belong to the monoclinic space group P2(1)/c and both contain neutral 2D layers and discrete polyoxometalate clusters decorated by transitional metal complexes. They represent an important example of the family of intercalated solids, in which both the 2D layers and the intercalated molecules are polyoxometalates with covalently linked transitional metal complex fragments. Compound 3, crystallizing in the monoclinic space group C2/c, consists of ID zigzag chains constructed from alternating [(SiMo10Mo2O40)-Mo-VI-O-V((VO)-O-IV)(2)](2-) polyoxoanions and [Ni(phen)(2)](2+) fragments. More interestingly, these three compounds are constructed directly from saturated polyoxometalates, in which the intact skeletons of Keggin clusters are maintained under hydrothermal conditions. Variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements of compounds I and 2 reveal the feature of antiferromagnetic exchange interaction in these compounds. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. Abstract:Three supramolecular architectures based on alpha-Keggin-type polyoxometalates have been synthesized hydrothermally, and their structures have been characterized by elemental analyses, infrared (IR) spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and single crystal X-ray diffraction structure analyses. [Ni(enMe)(2)(H(2)O)(2)](2)[Ni(enMe)(2)PW(VI)(9)W(V)(3)O(40)] x H(2)O (1) (enMe = 1,2'-propanediamine) exhibits a novel 2-D supramolecular sinusoidal layer through the interactions between transition metal complexes and 1-D covalent chains which are constructed from alpha-Keggin units bridged by transition metal complexes. [Ni(enMe)(2)](4){[Ni(enMe)(2)][Ni(enMe)(2)(H(2)O)AsW(VI)(6)W(V)(4)V(IV)(4)O(42)](2)} x 6 H(2)O (2), representing a 3-D supramolecular framework with 1-D channels, contains the first example of a tungstate dimer with inorganic-organic composite surfaces built up from [Ni(enMe)(2)](2+) cation bridges and bi-capped alpha-Keggin polyoxometalate building blocks supporting the transition metal complex. [Ni(enMe)(2)](4){[Ni(enMe)(2)][Ni(enMe)(2)(H(2)O)AsMo(VI)(4)Mo(V)(4)V(IV)(8)O(44)](2)} x 8 H(2)O (3), showing a 3-D supramolecular framework with 1-D channels, contains the first example of a molybdoarsenate dimer formed by [Ni(enMe)(2)](2+) cations bridging two neighboring tetra-capped alpha-Keggin-based molybdates that support the transition metal complex [Ni(enMe)(2)H(2)O]. The topological networks of the supramolecular frameworks of 2 and 3 are analogous. Crystal structural analysis reveals that the dimensionality and the organization of polyoxometalate building units in the solid state can be tuned by the steric hindrances of the polyanions. Both 2 and 3 exhibit intensive photoluminescence.

Abstract:Two Keggin polyoxoanion-based hybrid compounds composed of CuI/tbz segments [CuI2(tbz)2][CuI(tbz)2(PMoVI10Mo2VO40CuI2)] (1) and [CuI2(tbz)3][CuI (tbz)2](PW12O40) (2), have been hydrothermally synthesized. In compound 1, a 3D supramolecular framework with 2D channels is constructed from a novel cap-to-cap {CuI(tbz)2(PMoVI10Mo2VO40CuI2)}2−n chain via hydrogen bonding and π–π interactions, in which {CuI2(tbz)2}2+ segments are incorporated. Compound 2 is composed of one discrete PW12 polyoxoanion, one {CuI(tbz)2}+ segment and one {CuI2(tbz)3}2+ segment, displaying a 3D supramolecular structure through hydrogen bonding and π–π interactions. The results indicate that the polyoxoanions and configurations of tbz ligand play the key roles in the self-assembly processes. The electrochemical properties of compounds 1 and 2 have been investigated.

Abstract:Three compounds, [Cu(4,4'-bpy)](2)MoO4.2H(2)O (1), [Cu(4,4'-bpy)](2)Mo2O7 (2), and [Cu(4,4'-bpy)(nic)(H2O)](2)Mo8O26 (3), are synthesized by hydrothermal reaction, which suggests that oxomolybdate- organic ligand coordination transition-metal fragments can merge their merit to generate some interesting architectures. Crystal data for [Cu(4,4'-bPY)](2)MoO4.2H(2)O (1): monoclinic system, space group C2/c, a = 10.936(l), b = 17.775(l), and c = 14.484(l) A, = 110.15(1)degrees, and Z = 4. Crystal data for [Cu(4,4'-bPY)](2)Mo2O7 (2): orthorhombic system, space group Pbcn, a = 11.841(l), b = 9.105(l), and c = 21.311(l) A, and Z = 4. Crystal data for [Cu(4,4'-bpy)(nic)(H2O)](2)Mo8O26 (3): monoclinic system, space group P2(1)/n, a = 11.457(1), b = 16.918(1), and c = 12.463(1) Angstrom, beta = 92.6(1)degrees, and Z = 2. Compound 1 is built up from {MoO4} tetrahedra linking of 4,4'-bpy coordination copper(I) chain fragments as a railroad-like framework. Compound 2 has noticeable structural features: two {Mo2O7} and four {CuO2N2} tetrahedra are connected to each other alternately in a pattern of corner sharing to construct an eight-metal-central-membered cavity; such subunits are connected to each other also through corner-shared, two-dimensional mosaic frameworks, which are linked further by bidentate 4,4'-bpy ligands to a three-dimensional framework with oval channels. The two-dimensional flat brick wall-like layer structure of 3 is constructed from two layer[Cu(4,4'-bpy)(nic)(H2O)](n)(2n+) chains joined together by beta-[Mo8O26](4-) units as tethers through covalent bonding of the terminal oxo groups to form rectangular cavities. The most curious feature of 3, however, is that the extended structure of 3 is comprised of an interpenetrated arrangement of two kinds of multizigzag chain polymers entangled together. The successful assembly of the three polymeric frameworks of 1-3 demonstrates the dramatic influence of the reaction acidity/basicity on the organization of molecular building groups and further on the construction of solid architectures. The studies of the temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibilities of 3 reveal that there exists the weak magnetic transformation of 4,4'-bpy and octamolybdate between metal ions.

Abstract:Two mixed-addenda Nb/W polyoxometalate (POM)-based hybrid compounds, [(CuCu3II)-Cu-I (mu(3)-OH) (H2O)(6)(trz)(3)](2)(PW9Nb3O40)center dot 13H(2)O (1) and [Cu(I)Cu(II)3 (mu(3)-OH)(H2O)(4)(Htrz)(trz)(3)](2)(PW9Nb3O40)center dot 13H(2)O (2), were synthesized under hydrothermal conditions. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction revealed that compound 1 contains planar triangular tricopper {Cu-3(II) (mu(3)-OH)(trz)(3)} units, and these tricopper units link to each other to form a 1D anti-parallel chain. Cu-I ions connect the 1D chains by the coordination of trz ligands to form 2D layers in the ab plane. Compound 2 contains the same tricopper {Cu-3(II) (mu(3)-OH)(trz)(3)} units as well as bicopper {Cu-2(I) (Htrz)(2)} units. The tricopper units also form 1D chains and the bicopper units connect the 1D chains to form similar 2D layers and finally construct the 3D framework. In both compounds, each Nb/W mixed-addenda Keggin {PW9Nb3O40} unit links eight tricopper units to generate the final 3D structure. Magnetism studies indicate anti-ferromagnetic exchange interactions among the CuII ions within the tricopper units, with J(Cu-Cu) values of -209.3 and -200.8 cm(-1) in 1 and 2, respectively.

Abstract:Seven new metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), namely, [Zn-2(L-1)(H2O)(3)](n) (1), [Zn-2(L-1)(dib)(H2O)(2)](n) (2), {[Zn-2(L-1)(4,4'-bipy)(H2O)(2)]center dot H2O}(n) (3), [Cd-2(L-1)(1,10-phen)](n) (4), [Ni-2(HL1)(4,4'-bipy)(mu(3)-OH)(mu(2)-H2O)](n) (5), {[Co-4(L-1)(4,4'-bibp)(3)]center dot(4,4'-bibp)(3)}(n) (6), and [Co-2(L-2)(4,4'-bibp)(2)(H2O)](n) (7), where H4L1 and H4L2 are semi-rigid 3-(3,5-dicarboxylphenoxy)phthalic acid and 4-(3,5-dicarboxylphenoxy)phthalic acid, respectively, and 4,4'-bipy is 4,4'-bipyridine, dib is 1,4-bis(1H-imidazol-1-yl)benzene, 1,10-phen is 1,10-phenanthroline and 4,4'-bipb is 1,4-bis(pyridin-4-yl)benzene, have been prepared under solvothermal conditions with Zn-II, Cd-II, Co-II and Ni-II ions in the presence of auxiliary N-donor ligands. The crystal structures and photoluminescence and magnetic properties of these compounds have been investigated. Compound 1 displays a 3,4,6-connected two-dimensional (2D) topology with a Schlafli symbol of (4(2).5)(2)(4(3).5(2).7)(4(5).5(6).6(3))(2), and the 2D structure was further assembled to form a three-dimensional (3D) framework by intermolecular O-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonds. Compound 2 features a novel 3,3,4-connected structure and the point symbol is (4.10(2))(4.6.8(4))(6(2).8). Compound 3 exhibits a 3,4,6-connected 3-nodal net having a 3,4,6 T53 type topology, with the point symbol (4.6(2))(2)(4(2).6(4))(2)(4(2).6(8).8(2).10(3)). Compound 4 shows a 2D -> 3D supramolecular structure formed by pi-pi stacking interactions. Compound 5 possesses a 3D framework with a tfz-d net topology. Compounds 6 and 7 are constructed from the same auxiliary ligand and metal salt at the same temperature, but with different main ligands and exhibiting different topologies. Compound 6 presents a 3D 4,6-connected topological network with a Schlafli symbol of (3.4(4).6)(3(2).4(4).5(6).6(3)), while compound 7 has a 3D topological network with a Schlafli symbol of (4(12).6(16)). Magnetic analyses indicate that compounds 5 and 7 show weak antiferromagnetic interactions.

Abstract:Two new compounds based on AsIII–VIV polyoxometalates, [HAs6V15O42(H2O)][Cu(enMe)2]2.5·2H2O (1), [H2enMe]2[As8V14O42(H2O)]·3H2O (2), have been hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by IR, UV-vis, ESR, XPS spectra, elemental analyses, magnetic susceptibility studies and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses, respectively. X-Ray crystallographic studies reveal that 1 represents the first example of 2D structure constructed from [HAs6V15O42(H2O)]5− anions and transition metal coordination complexes, in addition, it exhibits the first brick-wall-like 2D layer structure constructed from polyoxometalates and transition metal coordination complexes. 2 exhibits a very interesting stacking mode. The study of magnetic susceptibilities demonstrates the presence of antiferromagnetic interactions in both 1 and 2.

New Organic-Inorganic Hybrid Compounds Constructed from Polyoxometalates and Transition Metal Mixed-Organic-Ligand Complexes

Abstract:Five new organic-inorganic hybrid compounds based on different polyoxoanions [HxGeW12O40](n-) or [H3As2W18O62](3-) (x = 0, 2; n = 4, 2), namely [Cu3(2,2'-bpy)3(inic)(OH)(H2O)][GeW12O40]·1.5H2O (1), [Cu2(phen)2(μ2-Cl)2(inic)]2[H2GeW12O40]·2H2O (2), [Cu2(phen)2(μ2-Cl)Cl(nic)]2[H2GeW12O40] (3), [Cu2(2,2'-bpy)2(hnic)Cl]2[H2GeW12O40] (4), [Cu(phen)(inic)H2O][Cu2(phen)2(inic)2(H2O)][H3As2W18O62]·3H2O (5) (inic = isonicotinic acid, nic = nicotinic acid, hnic = 2-hydroxy-nicotinic acid, 2,2'-bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine, phen = 1,10-phenanthroline), have been synthesized and characterized by IR, UV-Vis, XRD, cyclic voltammetric measurements and single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Single crystal X-ray analysis reveals that compound 1 is isomorphous and isostructural with a compound reported by us recently, the main difference between the two is the heteroatom of the polyoxoanions in the two compounds. Compound 2 is a supramolecular structure constructed from polyoxoanions and transition metal mixed-organic-ligand complexes. Compound 3 is a novel polyoxoanion bi-supported transition metal mixed-organic-ligand complex. Compound 4 is a 1-D chain structure constructed from polyoxoanions and transition metal mixed-organic-ligand complexes. The photodegradation properties of compounds 1-5 have been analyzed.

Abstract:Three new organic-inorganic hybrid compounds based on PMo12O40(n-) (n = 3 or 4) polyanions and Cu(I)-pz/Cu(I)-pz-Cl porous coordination polymers: [Cu(I)(pz)]3[PMo(VI)12O40] (1), [Cu(I)(pz)1.5]4[PMo(V)Mo(VI)11O40]·pz·2H2O (2), [Cu(I)3(pz)3Cl][Cu(I)2(pz)3(H2O)][PMo(V)Mo(VI)11O40] (3) (pz = pyrazine) have been hydrothermally prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, TG, XRD, XPS and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Compound 1 presents a three-dimensional Cu(I)-pz framework with cube-like chambers, into which PMo(VI)12O40(3-) Keggin ions are incorporated. Compound 2 shows a three-dimensional sandwich-like framework, and PMo(V)Mo(VI)11O40(4-) polyanions are located in the octagonal voids of every two-dimensional Cu(I)-pz 4(1)8(2) network structure. Compound 3 exhibits a two-dimensional Cl-bridged Cu(I)-pz-Cl double-layer structure, and two kinds of PMo(V)Mo(VI)11O40(4-) polyanions as bridging linkers connect two adjacent double-layers to form a three-dimensional organic-inorganic framework through Cu(I)-O bonds. Additionally, their electrochemical characters, electrocatalytic behaviors and solid state fluorescent properties at room temperature have been investigated in detail.

Abstract:A bicapped Keggin anion-supported cobalt–phenanthroline complex [{Co(phen)2(H2O)}2PMo10VIV4IVO42][{Co(phen)2}2PMo8VIMo2VV4IVO42]·4H2O (1) has been hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized by elemental analyses, single crystal X-ray diffraction and IR spectrum. Interestingly, all the polyanions constitute an anionic layer, while all the polycations are linked to form a cationic layer by the hydrogen bonding interactions. The result of magnetic measurement for compound 1 shows a typical antiferromagnetic interactions in the 2–300K temperature range.
