Abstract:A new 3-D vanadoborate {Na2B18V12O54(OH)(6)(H2O)[Na-8(H2O)(16)]}center dot 2H(2)O (1) has been hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized. The crystal of 1 is built up from an unusual 3-D Na-O-Na network and entrapped [V12B18O54(OH)(6)(H2O)](10-) clusters (denoted [V12B18]). Such a Na-O-Na network is constructed by the linkage of rare 1-D helical [Na-4(H2O)(8)(4+)](n) chains and [NaO6] octahedra. 1 represents the rare example of extended POMs with 3-D inorganic metal-oxygen networks. Magnetic measurements illustrate that 1 has antiferromagnetic exchange interactions between metal centers.

Abstract:A new compound containing polyoxovanadoborate anion was synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. A water molecule at the center of the anion was precisely determined. Abstract:Three new 3-D polyoxovanadoborates {[Cu(dien)(H2O)](3)V12B18O54(OH)(6)(H2O)}center dot 4H(3)O center dot 5.5H(2)O (1, dien = diethylenetriamine), {[Cd(H2O)(2)](3)V12B18O54(OH)(6)(H2O)}center dot 4H(3)O center dot 9.5H(2)O (2) and {[Na(H2O)(3)](4)Na2V12B18O56(OH)(4)(H2O)}(H(3)dien)(2) (3) have been hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized. Compounds 1-3 contain vanadoborate cluster [V12B18O60] constructed by two hexameric oxovanadate units [V6O9] and one puckered [B18O42] ring via sharing O atoms. The vanadoborate cage [V12B18O60] can present different degrees of protonation, namely [V12B18O60H6](10-) for 1 and 2, [V12B18O60H4](12-) for 3. The clusters [V12B18O60H6](10-) in 1 are connected by complex cations [Cu(dien)(H2O)](2+) into a new 3-D framework via all terminal O atoms of square-pyramidal [VO5] groups, while the clusters [V12B18O60H6](10-)/[V12B18O60H4](12-) in 2 and 3 are linked with [Cd(H2O)(2)](2+) groups/the combination of [Na(H2O)(3)](+) and Na+ ions to give another two types of new 3-D frameworks via O atoms of [BOx] (x = 3, 4) polyhedra, respectively. Magnetic measurements illustrate that compounds 1 and 2 have antiferromagnetic exchange interactions between metal centers. The theoretical band structure of 2 has been also studied.

Proton-Conducting Vanadoborate with New [V 10 B 26 ] Clusters

Abstract:An elliptical vanadoborate with a novel V10B26 ratio of the formula [Ni(en)3]3·[1,3-dap]2·H6[V10B26O60(OH)10] (1; en = ethylenediamine, 1,3-dap = 1,3-diaminopropane) was synthesized by a solvothermal method. In the structure, one [V10O30] unit and two [B13O30(OH)5] rings are superimposed alternately to form the V10B26 cluster, which is counterbalanced by the complex Ni(en)32+. In addition, V10B26 clusters interact further with organic molecules through hydrogen bonds, constructing the three-dimensional (3D) open framework with abundant hydrogen-bonding networks. Abstract:A new 1-D vanadoborate {[Na(H2O)4]3[V12B18O54(OH)6(H2O)]2}(H4tren)4·(H3O)·41H2O (1, tren=tris(2-aminoethyl)amine) has been hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized. 1 consists of 1-D polymeric anions {[Na(H2O)4]3[V12B18O54(OH)6(H2O)]217−}n, protonated H4tren4+, H3O+ ions and free H2O molecules. The [V12B18O54(OH)6(H2O)]10− clusters (denoted on V12B18) are connected by three complex [Na(H2O)4]+ ions as bridges into 1-D chain. 1 is the only example of triply bridged vanadoborate units by three metal complex units. The magnetic susceptibility shows the antiferromagnetic interaction between VIV cations in 1.

Abstract:The hydrothermal reaction of NaVO3.H2O, barbituric acid, NH2NH2.2HCl, H3PO4, and H2O gave a novel heteropolyoxovanadate Na-6[((PO4)-O-V)(V6V12O39)-V-V-O-IV](2).H3PO4.31H(2)O (1) and an unexpected phase Na-2[C12H6N6O9].7H(2)O (2). The basic building blocks in 1 are the six-capped sphere-shaped heteropoly anion [((PO4)-O-V)(V6V12O39)-V-V-O-IV](3-) with framework similar to that of the reported polyoxovanadates possessing {V18O42} clusters encapsulating VO4 or other ions. These heterpoly anionic units are linked via V-O-V bridges into an interesting 3D straight-channel structure. The structure of 2 consists of novel organic anions ([C12N6H6O9](2-), 5,5-bis(2',4', 6'-trioxopyrimidyl) barbital, representing the first oxidized barbituric acid trimer) linked via sodium ions into 1 D hollow tubes with diameter of 4.49 x 6.86 Angstrom and further connected into a three-dimensional framework via hydrogen bonds.

Abstract:The synthesis of a novel bimetallic organic-inorganic hybrid vanadoborate K 8 Cu(en) 2 [(VO) 12 O 6 B 18 O 36 (OH) 6 ]·14H 2 O ( 1 , en = ethylenediamine) with a three-dimensional (3-D) open-framework was achieved through hydrothermal reactions. Compound 1 consists of anionic 1-D chains arranged in parallel along the [001] direction, constructed by corner-sharing [Cu(en) 2 ] 2+ cations and hamburger-like V 12 B 18 anionic clusters. The K-O polyhedra act as linkers to further connect with the 1-D chains, resulting in the 3-D architecture featuring extensive hydrogen bonding networks. Significantly, compound 1 demonstrated proton conductivity values of up to 3.09 × 10 -3 S/cm at a temperature of 318 K and under conditions of 100% relative humidity. Moreover, it exhibited an activation energy of 1.46 eV at various temperatures in the presence of complete humidity, thereby establishing compound 1 as a remarkably proficient solid conductive material.

Abstract:Two new 3-D boratopolyoxovanadates {[Zn2NaV12B16O50(OH)(8)(H2O)(7)]}center dot 7(H3O)center dot 4H(2)O (1) and [Cd3Na3.5V12B16O50(OH)(8)(H2O)(8)]center dot 2.5(H3O)center dot 11H(2)O (2) were synthesized employing hydrothermal reactions and structurally characterized. Both 1 and 2 contain the boratopolyoxovanadate cluster [V12B16O50(OH)8](12-) built up from one continuous contorted [V12O36] ring and two [B8O17(OH)(4)] clusters. The clusters [V12B16O50(OH)(8)](12-) in both 1 and 2 are linked by Zn2+/Cd2+ ions into the sql layer and self-penetrating sql layer, respectively, which are further connected by Na+ ions to form the 3-D boratopolyoxovanadate architectures. The most interesting feature is that each [V12B16O50(OH)(8)](12-) unit in 2 acts as a multidentate ligand coordinated with six Cd2+ ions and eight Na+ ions, which represents the highest coordination number of [V12B16O50(OH)(8)](12-) with metal cations to date. Magnetic measurements illustrate that both 1 and 2 have antiferromagnetic exchange interactions between metal centers.

Abstract:Three new vanadoborates [H3teta]3[V12B18O54(OH)6(H2O)]·(H3O)·5H2O (1, teta=triethylenetetramine), [H4teta]2[V6B22O44(OH)10] ·4.5H2O (2) and [H4tepa]2[V6B22O44(OH)10] ·4H2O (3, tepa=tetraethylenepentamine) have been hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized. 1 contains cage cluster [V12B18O54(OH)6(H2O)]10− based on one puckered B18O36(OH)6 ring sandwiched between two V6O15 clusters. Both 2 and 3 contain new decorated cage cluster [V6B22O44(OH)10]8− built up from a central band of [V6O18] capped top and bottom by two raft-like polyborate [B11O20(OH)4] units. The magnetic susceptibility of 3 demonstrates the presence of antiferromagnetic interaction between VIV cations. The theoretical band structure and spectroscopic properties have been also studied.

Abstract:A new mixed-metal polyborate, Na5Li[B12O18(OH)(6)]center dot 2H(2)O (1), has been synthesized using solvothermal method and characterized by IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, UVeVis spectroscopy, powder and single-crystal X-ray diffraction, respectively. It crystallizes in the trigonal space group R-3c (No. 167) with unit cell parameters of a = b = 9.6767(6) angstrom, c = 36.358(5) angstrom, and Z = 6. Its structure features unprecedented 3D framework constructed from novel honeycomb-shaped inorganic Na-O sheets with unique 12-MR sodium rings and supramolecular polyborate 2D layers of lithium-centered [B12O18(OH)(6)](6-). Abstract:The discovery of novel high-dimensional vanadorates with important photocatalytic properties is of great importance in structural chemistry and materials science. Herein, new types of three-dimensional (3-D) vanadoborates (H3O)2{[K6(H2O)10][Ni(H2O)4][V12B18O54- (OH)6]}·13H2O (1) and (H3O)2{[K12(H2O)10][Zn4(B2O4H2)(B4O14H10)(V10B28O74H8)]}·2H2O (2) were synthesized by a facile and feasible hydrothermal technique and structurally characterized. 1 comprises cage-like vanadoborate cluster [V12B18O54(OH)6]10- based on the combination of one puckered [B18O36(OH)6] ring and two hexa-meric oxo-vanadate [V6O9] units, while 2 contains a rare vanadoborate cluster {[Zn4(B2O4H2)(B4O14H10)(V10B28O74H8)]}14- built up from two [B14O28(OH)4] rings, one [Zn4(B2O4H2)(B4O14H10)] unit and one ellipse-like [V10O30] ring. The 3-D framework of 1 is constructed by the linkage of rare [K6(H2O)10]n chains and {[Ni(H2O)4][V12B18O54(OH)6]}n chains, while 3-D architecture of 2 is built from the interconnection of infrequent [K12(H2O)10]n layers and vanadoborate {[Zn4(B2O4H2)(B4O14H10)- (V10B28O74H8)]}14- clusters. The documented polymeric vanadoborates are usually based on low nuclearity metal complexes as bridging groups, however, 1 and 2 present new types of the 3-D vanadoborates based on K-O-K polymeric chain or layer as bridging group. The photocatalytic results revealed 1 and 2 displayed the efficient photo-catalytic properties for degradation of methylene blue under visible light. This study offers a facile synthetic method for the preparation of new high-dimensional vanadorates as the potential photo-catalysts to eliminate the harmful methylene blue dyes in industrial wastewaters.

The 3-D frameworks of both 1 and 2 are built up from a different 3-D inorganic [KxOy](n) sub-network and entrapped [V12B18O54(OH)(6)(H2O)](10-)(denoted as [V12B18]) clusters, respectively. 3 contains [V12B18] clusters and 1-D [K3O12](n) chains, which are interconnected to form a 3-D {V12B18O54(OH)(6)(H2O)[K-6(H2O)(12)]}(n) architecture with 1-D tunnels filled with protonated H(2)dien(2+) ions. The 3-D architecture of 4 is constructed by another rare 3-D inorganic [K4O7](n) sub-network and entrapped [V6B20O44(OH)(8)(H2O)] (denoted as V6B20) clusters. Compounds 1, 2 and 4 represent rare examples of extended POVs with the 3-D inorganic [KxOy](n) sub-networks. 5 contains [V6B20] clusters and dimeric [K2O16] units, which are interconnected to give a 3-D {B20V6O44(OH)(8)(H2O)[K(H2O)](2)}(n) architecture with 1-D tunnels filled with protonated H(3)dien(3+) ions. Although a few boratopolyoxovanadates contain the [V6B20] cluster, they display either a discrete [V6B20] cluster or a low-dimensional extended structure. Therefore, both 4 and 5 are rare examples of 3-D boratopolyoxovanadate architectures based on the [V6B20] clusters. The magnetic susceptibilities of both 4 and 5 show the antiferromagnetic interaction between V-IV cations. Their spectroscopic properties were also investigated.

Abstract:Two new heteropolyoxovanadoborates (H(2)dap)(2)H-6{(VO)(12)O-6[B3O6(OH)](6)(H2O)}center dot 13H(2)O (1, dap = 1,2-diaminopropane) and {[Zn(dien)](2)[Zn(dien)(H2O)](4)(VO)(12)O-6[B3O6(OH)](6)(H2O)}(2)center dot 15H(2)O (2, dien = diethylenetriamine) have been hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized. Both 1 and 2 contain {(VO)(12)O-6[B3O6(OH)](6)(H2O)} cluster (denoted on V12B18), which is constructed by a puckered B18O36(OH)(6) ring sandwiched between two triangles of six alternating cis and trans edge-sharing vanadium atoms, and a central water molecule. 1 consists of discrete [V12B18](10-) cluster anions with H(2)dap(2+) as counterions, while 2 consists of discrete neutral {[Zn(dien)](2)[Zn(dien)(H2O)](4)[V12B18]} clusters, which are built from two types of zinc(II) complex fragments connecting with V12B18 cluster through two Zn-(mu (3)-O)-B bonds. Interestingly, 2 is the only example of the V12B18 cluster decorated by two types of zinc(II) complex fragments.
