Abstract:A proton-conductive supramolecular complex, {[Cu(H2O)8][H(H2O)3](HINO)4(PMo12O40)} n , was constructed by a self-assembly of H+(H2O)3 clusters, [Cu(H2O)8]2+ clusters, [PMo12O40]3− anions, and isonicotinic acid N-oxide (HINO). Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis at 293 K revealed that the complex presented the three-dimensional (3D) supramolecular framework built from non-covalent interactions. Interestingly, [PMo12O40]3− anions self-assembled into poly-Keggin-anion chains in the supramolecular framework. Thermogravimetric analysis shows no weight loss in the temperature range of 20–100 °C, indicating that all water molecules in the unit structure are not easily lost below 100 °C. Surprisingly, the proton conductivity of the complex in the temperature range of 85–100 °C under 98% RH condition reached good proton conductivity of 10−3 S cm−1. A possible mechanism of the proton conduction was proposed according to the experimental results.

Abstract:Two supramolecular compounds [Cu(imz)2][Cu(phen)(imz)]2{[Cu(phen)]2[PMo6 VIMo6 VV2 IVO42]}(1) and [Co2(2,2′-bpy)4(C2O4)][Co(2,2′-bpy)3][PMo7 VIMo5 VV2 IVO42](2,2′-bpy)0.5·H2O(2)(phen=1,10′-phenanthroline, imz= imidazole, 2,2′-bpy=2.2′-bipyridine) have been synthesized hydrothermally and characterized by elemental analyses, infrared spectrum, UV-Vis, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS), electron spin resonance(ESR) spectra, thermogravimetry analyses and single crystal X-ray diffraction analyses. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses revealed that both the compounds represent the examples of compounds based on the bi-capped Keggin polyoxoanion {PMo12V2O42} and transition metal mixed-organic-ligand coordination complexes. Compound 1 consists of bi-capped Keggin polyoxoanion [PMo12V2O42]5− supported copper coordination groups, which are further inter-connected with two types of copper complex fragments forming a 3D supramolecular framework via π⋯π stacking, C-H⋯O and N-H⋯O hydrothermal bonding interactions. Compound 2 is a new hybrid consisted of polyoxoanion [PMo12V2O42]4−, [Co2(2,2′-bpy)4(C2O4)]2+ and [Co(2,2′-bpy)3]2+. There are no direct interactions in compound 2, but the polyoxoanions together with two different cobalt complex groups construct a 3D supramolecular network through C-H⋯O hydrogen bonding interactions.

Abstract:Functional nanosized cage complexes with an octahedral framework have been synthesized by the facile self-assembly reactions of six 90 PdII-containing compounds {[Pd(dppf)(OTf)(2)] or [Pd(PPh3)(OTf)(2)], dppf = 1,1'-bis(diphenylphosphanyl) ferrocene, OTf = trifluoromethylsulfonate} and four 120 degrees functional tritopic ligands [2,4,6-tri(4-pyridyl)-1,3,5-triazine] in acetone. Diffusion-ordered NMR spectroscopy (DOSY) and AFM images clarify the formation of 3-4 nm nanoparticles. These highly symmetrical cage complexes are discrete, face-directed, functional nanoparticles with symmetrical octahedral structures. The self-assembled functional cage complexes exhibit interesting electrochemical activities, and thus will potentially be useful in the catalysis of redox reactions, the encapsulation of sizeable guest molecules and the control of organic synthetic reactions.

Abstract:Two novel organic-inorganic hybrid polyoxometalates, [Cu(2,2'-bpy)(2)](2)[(HmXMo10Mo2O40)-Mo-VI-O-V]center dot 2H(2)O (X = P, m = 11: X = Si, m = 22; 2,2'-bpy -ridine), have been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. They are isostructural, possessing orthorhombic, and the parameters of unit cells for compound 1 are space group Pbca, a = 17.317(4) angstrom. b = 17.092(3) angstrom, c = 20.587(4) angstrom, V = 6445(2) angstrom(3), Z = 4; for compound 2 are space group Pcab, a = 17.181(3) angstrom b = 18.198(4) angstrom, c = 20.672(4) angstrom, V= 6463(2) angstrom(3), Z = 4. Abstract:We synthesized a high-nuclear isopolymolybdate cluster (n-Bu4N)(6)H-2[{Mo24O48(OMe)(32)} {Mo24O52(OMe)(28)}(2)]center dot 25H(2)O center dot 6CH(3)CN (1) by using [Mo6O19](2-) as the base precursor. Crystallographic characterization shows the cluster is composed of an anionic [{Mo24O48(OMe)(32)}](8-) cage and two charge-neutral [{Mo24O52(OMe)(28)}] cages. Supported by the electrospray ionization mass spectrometry study, the polyoxoanion structural unit [Mo24O48(CH3O)(27)](3) demonstrates strong stability in acetonitrile solution. Moreover, 1 exhibits good proton conductivity of 1.79x10(-3) Scm(-1) at 358 K and 98% relative humidity.

Abstract:A new polyoxometalate-based three-dimensional supramolecular compound,[H_2bpy]_2[SiMo~(Ⅵ)_8 Mo~V_4V~(Ⅳ)_2O_(42)]·3H_2O,has been hydrothermally synthesized by using pre-synthesized H_4SiMo_(12)O_(40) as building block.It crystallizes in the monoclinic system,space group C2/c,a=1.427 9(7) nm,b=1.901 2(4) nm,c=2.091 4(9) nm,β=97.73(6)°,V=5.626 5(8) nm~3 and Z=4.The compound represents the first example of hydrogen-bonded three-dimensional framework in which bicapped Keggin polyoxoanions are linked together by water-dimer through hydrogen bonds.The compound was used as a bulk-modifier to fabricate a chemically modified carbon paste electrode(CPE) by direct mixing.Its electrochemical behavior was studied at the same time.

Abstract:The synthesis of hollow opening polyhedral cages has always been an attractive but challenging goal, especially with regard to inorganic polyhedral cages. Herein, we present a novel, 240-nuclearity giant polymolybdate cage prepared via hydrothermal synthesis. This cage is composed of 20 tripod-shaped [Mo6O22(SO3)]n−/[Mo6O21(SO4)]n− building blocks with three connected vertices and 30 cubane-type [Mo4O16]n− edge building blocks, featuring a rare, nearly regular pentagonal dodecahedron with a large inner cavity (diameter up to 1.8 nm) and 12 opening pentagonal windows. This is the highest nuclearity hollow opening dodecahedral cage reported to date. Importantly, this cage exhibits good stability in solution, as revealed by scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM), TEM, UV–vis, and Raman spectra. Abstract:By using tridentate ligand 4(3-pyridinyl)-1,2,4-triazole (pytrz), cage-like complexes of {[Cu(mu(2)-pytrz)(2)]- (ClO4)(SO4)0.5 center dot C2H5OH-0.25H(2)O} (1), {[Cu-3(mu(3)-pytrz)(4)(mu(2)-Cl)(2)(H2O)(2)]-(ClO4)(2)Cl-2 center dot 2H(2)O}(n) (2), and {[Cu-3(mu(3-)pytrz)(3)(mu(3)-O)(H2O)(3)](ClO4)(2.5)- (BF4)(1.5)center dot 5.25H(2)O}(n) (3) have been synthesized with different copper(II) salts. Complex I represents the second example of a M6L12 metal-organic octahedron with an overall T-h, symmetry. Complex 2 is constructed from a 3 8 cage-building unit (CBU) and each CBU connects six neighboring cages to give the first 3D metal-organic framework (MOF) based on octahedral M6L12. Complex 3 is built from Cu-24-(pytrz)(12) CBUs with the trinuclear copper clusters serving as second building units (SBUs) and decorating each corner of the M24L12 polyhedron. The Cu-24(pytrz)(12) building unit is linked by extra ligands to give an extended 3D framework that has the formula Cu-24(pytrZ)(2), and possesses a CaB6 topology. The mixed anions ClO4- and BF4- in 3 are both included in the inner cavity of the cage and can be completely exchanged by ClO4- through the open windows of the cage, as evidenced by the crystal structure of the 3D MOF {[Cu-3(mu(3)-pytrz)(3)(mu(3)-O)- (H2O)(3)](ClO4)(4)center dot 4.5H(2)O}(n) (4). Complex 4 can also be synthesized when employing I as a precursor in an extensive study of the anion-exchange reaction. This represents the first successful conversion of a discrete cage into a 3D coordination network based on a cage structure. Complex 2 remains invariable during anion-exchange reactions because uncoordinated Cl- ions are located in the comparatively small inner cavity.

Abstract:Two new Keggin-based hybrids with polynuclear Cu(I) clusters, formulated as [Cu-4(HL)(4)(SiW12O40)]center dot 6H(2)O (1) and [Cu-6.5(HL)(2)(L)(4)(H2O)(H1.5SiW12O40)]center dot 3H(2)O (2) (HL = 5-(4-imidazol-1-ylphenyl)-2H-tetrazole), have been hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by routine techniques. In 1, Keggin polyanions [SiW12O40](4-) (SiW12) link adjacent [Cu-4(HL)(4)](n) chains to generate a 2D network. In 2, a cationic (2,3,11)-connected 3D framework, {Cu-6.5(HL)(2)(L)(4)(H2O)}(2.5+), is induced by SiW12 as the template. The differences in the structures of compounds 1 and 2 indicate that pH and the acid radical ions in the initial reaction system play a key role in determining the final structures. Interestingly, the ligand HL in 1 only adopts a mu(1,2,3) bridging mode, while in 2, the ligand is in HL/L states and exhibits four different bridging modes: mu(1,2,3,4,5), mu(1,2,3,5,) mu(1,2,4,5,) and mu(1,2,4). The luminescent properties of compounds 1 and 2 have also been investigated. The results show that solvent-dependent luminescence properties can be found in 1. In addition, electrochemistry properties of 1 and 2 have also been studied.

Abstract:Micrometer scaled MoS2 hierarchical hollow cubic cages assembled by bilayers can be synthesized via a one-step self-assembly coupled with intermediate crystal templating process without any surfactant, in which the intermediate K2NaMoO3F3 crystal formed in-situ and then served as the self-sacrificed template based on the Kirkendall Effect; The MoS2 hierarchical hollow cubic cages were employed for electrochemical hydrogen storage with a high capacity of 375 mAh g(-1) due to the more active edges exposing on the upright-standing nanoplates.

Abstract:Two unusual alpha-Keggin-based compounds with multinuclear silver clusters, {[Ag-7(H(2)biim)(5)][PW11O39]}center dot Cl center dot H3O (1) and {[Ag-2(H(2)biim)(2)][Ag(phnz)](PW12O40)}center dot H2O (2) (H(2)biim = 2,2'-biimidazole, phnz = phenazine), have been hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized by elemental analyses, IR spectra, thermogravimetric analysis and X-ray crystallography. Compound 1 displays a 2D network featuring dimerized monolacunary Keggin anions {PW11O39}(2) which are connected together through pentanuclear silver clusters. Interestingly, besides {Ag-5}(5+) clusters, there are another kinds of argentophilic {Ag-4}(4+) clusters coexisting in compound 1. Compound 2 consists of four subunits: 1D cationic chains [Ag(phnz)](+), dinuclear silver-H(2)biim units [Ag-2(H(2)biim)(2)](2+), discrete polyanions {PW12O40}(3-) and water molecules, which are further joined by hydrogen bonds to form a 3D supramolecular structure. The differences in the structures of compounds 1 and 2 indicate that the introduction of the secondary organic ligand plays a key role in determining the final structure. The electrochemical, electrocatalytic behaviors and luminescent properties of compounds 1 and 2 have also been investigated.
Solvent Directed Synthesis of Molecular Cage and Metal Organic Framework of Copper(II) Paddlewheel Cluster

Abstract:<div class="abstract-group"> <section class="article-section article-section__abstract" lang="en" data-lang="en" id="section-1-en"> <h3 class="article-section__header main abstractlang_en main">Abstract</h3> <div class="article-section__content en main"> A solvothermal reaction of a clip‐type dicarboxylic acid H2DCA [3,3′‐((5‐nitroisophthaloyl)bis(azanediyl))‐dibenzoic acid] and Cu(NO3)2 in equimolar ratio in dimethylformamide (DMF) yielded MOF(CuCG1) which was formed by interlinking [4+2] self‐assembled polyhedral cages via coordination between amide moiety present in the linker and the axial position of copper paddlewheel Cu2(CO2)4. Upon a change in the solvent from DMF to DMA [dimethylacetamide] the interlinking among the polyhedra was successfully terminated to get single crystals of a discrete coordination cage with DMA bound to axial position of Cu(II) (CuCG2). Similar termination of the interlinking was also achieved by a fast crystallization process to get discrete architecture CuCG1.

Abstract:Cluster coordination polymer {(n-Bu4N)(2)[Mo2O2S6Cu6Br4(4,4 '-bipy)(3)]center dot 0.5H(2)O}(n) (4,4'-bipy=4,4'-bipyridine), has been synthesized and characterized by X-ray crystallography. The polymeric anion {[Mo2O2S6Cu6Br4(4,4'-bipy)(3)](2-)}(n) Br atoms and 4,4'-bipy ligands. Two secondary building is composed of secondary building units (SBUs) [MoOS3Cu3], units [MoOS3Cu3] and a double parallel 4,4'-bipy ligands form an octanuclear rectangular metallamacrocycle with the dimension of 1.13x0.39 nm(2), which is further connected by single bridging 4,4'-bipy ligands to form a 1D zigzag Structure. Crystal data for compound 1:C62H97N8O2.50S6Br4Cu6Mo2, M=2 079.68, Triclinic, P1, a=0.982 40 (10) nm, b = 1.293 70(10) nm, c= 1.737 4(2) nm, alpha = 97.810(10)degrees, beta=101.390(10)degrees, gamma=108.520(10)degrees, V=2.005 1(4) nm(3), Z=2, D-c= 1.722 g.cm(-3), F(000)=1 039, mu (Mo K alpha)=4.055 mm(-1), the final R=0.040 7, wR(2)=0.097 2.

Abstract:Solid-state reaction of (NH4)(6)Mo7O24.4H(2)O with Bu(4)NBr and NH2OH.HCl at low temperature yields an isopolyoxomolybdate [Bu(4)N](+)(6)[H3O](+)(2)[Mo13O40](4-)(2), the structure of which has been determined by X-ray crystallography. The title compound contains two [Mo13O40](4-) anions which have different symmetry. Both anions have Keggin-type structures with a molybdenum atom centre.
