Abstract:Making sensors of pyrroles: 7,9-Diarenyl-8H-acenaphtho[1,2-c]pyrroles were efficiently constructed by a palladium-catalyzed bicyclization of 1,8-diarenynyl naphthalenes and primary amines under air conditions (see scheme). The synthesized 8H-acenaphtho[1,2-c]pyrroles might be applied as a fluorescent sensor in trace nitroaromatics detection.

Abstract:A high molecular weight poly(arylene ynonylene) with an aggregation-enhanced emission characteristic was synthesized in high yield by a newly developed polymerization route. Its emission can be turned 'on' by hydrazine, as well as 'off' by picric acid, demonstrating the first fluorescent sensor that works for both hydrazine and explosives detection.

Abstract:The preparation of a series of heterocycles obtained by the condensation of 4,5-diazafluoren-9-one with various amines is described with particular emphasis on bridged systems formed by the condensation of 4,5-diazafluoren-9-one with diamine compounds such as hydrazine. Due to sp2 hybridization of the nitrogen atom in the bridge, the protons in the two pyridine units of each bipyridine group are non-equivalent. The projection of a hydrogen atom from one of the pyridine rings into the ring current of an adjacent phenyl ring shifts the proton resonance upfield. Proton NMR resonances have been uniquely assigned for all the compounds and electronic absorptions have been attributed to π → π∗ transitions located in the ultraviolet region of the spectrum. Reduction of the heterocycles occurs at the imine nitrogen bridge and is irreversible, except for the ligand resulting from the condensation of 4,5-diazafluoren-9-one with hydrazine.

Abstract:Two new hyperbranched fluorescent conjugated polymers containing pyridine units were synthesized via Heck coupling reaction and Sonogashira coupling reaction, respectively, and characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, FTIR, and GPC. The copolymers are readily soluble in common organic solvents such as chloroform, THF, and DMF. Thermal analysis revealed that the copolymers had good thermal stability. The fluorescence quenching behaviors of the hyperbranched copolymers by metal ions were studied. It was found that the fluorescence of the copolymers can be effectively quenched by Pd2+. Moreover, the two hyperbranched copolymers exhibited different quenching efficiency, which may be related to difference in the hindrance for the chelation of pyridine unit with metal ions of the two polymers. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Abstract:The nitrogen-boron-nitrogen (NBN) unit modified polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) have garnered significant attention due to their captivating electronic and optoelectronic properties. Herein, we present a succinct palladium-catalyzed cyclization strategy methodology, yielding a diverse array of NBN-phenalenes. The inherent structural diversity of these compounds renders an auspicious avenue the to probe into their intricate structure-property correlations. Notably, thorough scrutiny involving ultraviolet-visible, fluorescence spectra, and density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveals the tunable nature of their geometric, and electronic structures, as well as their photophysical characteristics. Remarkably, the NBN-fused ring system has been effectively harnessed for the detection of nitro explosives, proving its high sensitivity and ability to detect trinitrotoluene (TNT) at the ppm level. Test strips were used to identify TNT visually. The potential applications of this expeditious and precise TNT detection technique encompass a fortified public safety apparatus. This research offers a strategic approachy to constructing nitrogen-boron-nitrogen fused ring structures, exploring their luminescent properties, and forging innovative capabilities.

Abstract:In this article, we report the synthesis and characterization of a highly luminescent conjugated microporous polycarbazole (CK-CMP) by FeCl3-induced oxidative polymerization of 1,3,6,8-tetrakis(4-(9H-carbazol-9-yl)phenyl)pyrene (L). The CK-CMP with small pore sizes exhibits good thermal stability and high luminescence when suspended in polar solvents upon irradiation by UV light, which can be applied to detect 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (PA) with good sensitivity and selectivity by fluorescence quenching.

Abstract:Selective synthesis of functionalized naphthalenes and indenones by palladium-catalyzed cyclization of o-haloacetophenones and terminal alkynes in the presence of a secondary amine is reported. Under a nitrogen atmosphere, the palladium-catalyzed reaction of o-haloacetophenones with terminal alkynes in the presence of wet secondary aminesgenerated 1-(dialkylamino)-3-aryl/alkylnaphthalenes. When the reaction was conducted in air, 1-indenone-3-carbaldehydes were obtained. The synthesized beta-arylnaphthalenes 4af emit light in a range from 386 to 452 nm with quantum yields from 0.10 to 0.48 in cyclohexane. The absorption and emission efficiency of 4d were finely tuned by the acidity of the environment, and this might be useful in the use of 4d as a fluorescent pH sensor.
