Abstract:Ionic liquid coated sulfonic acid functionalized amorphous carbon/silica composites derived from a starch-glucose mixture were developed and their catalytic activities were evaluated for Knoevenagel condensation, reductive amination of aldehydes and ketones, and for Michael addition of indole to alpha,beta-unsaturated ketones in aqueous medium. The catalyst prepared from starch-glucose mixture (3 : 1) [CSC-Star-Glu-IL2] showed the highest activity in water. The catalysts were characterized by FTIR, TGA, elemental analysis, and the most active was further characterized by XRD, SEM and TEM.

Abstract:In this research work, functionalized ketimine derivatives were immobilized on different solid supports through the hydrothermal method and utilized as heterogeneous Hydrogen Bond Donor (HBD) catalysts for the synthesis of cyclic carbonate from CO2 and epoxide. The silica based composite material were found to be very much suitable to provide excellent catalytic efficiency at ambient and solvent free reaction conditions. Moreover, the synthetic route could be considered as an atom economic green technique, to produce high yield the product with very less loading of catalyst and reusability up to 7th cycle. Composite silica materials have been developed by hydrothermal method and utilized as heterogeneous Hydrogen Bond Donor (HBD) catalysts, where the functionalized ketimine derivatives have been immobilized on the solid support. Such functional materials have been found to be efficient catalysts for the synthesis of cyclic carbonates through the installation of CO2 with epoxides. Characterization of these materials was systematically done using various spectroscopic and imaging techniques to confirm the presence of organic compounds on the silica surface. These composite materials exhibited significantly higher catalytic activity as compared to the other homogeneous methods. Additionally, this synthetic process was extremely convenient in terms of all the external parameters such as, solvent free condition at ambient reaction temperature with normal pressure of CO2, very low catalyst loading with proper regeneration and reusability of the catalyst. These facets have definitely made this technique greener and more sustainable.

Abstract:Amorphous silica gel and mesoporous MCM-41 with sulfo organic layer were prepared by post synthesis two step modifications, i.e. silylation with benzylchloro-dimethyl-silane, followed by treatment with chlorosulfonic acid. Resulting composites have a porous structure similar to that of non-modified materials, as shown by nitrogen adsorption and X-ray diffraction measurements. The successful incorporation of the functional groups was indicated by IR spectroscopy and NMR analysis. The grafted functional groups are thermally stable up to 723 K, as found by thermo gravimetrical and IR measurements. The results obtained from catalytic conversion of methylbutinol indicate the presence of acidic centers.

Abstract:After silane coupling agent 4-(chloromethyl) phenyltrichlorosilicane was grafted onto silica particles, the silica particles were endowed with hydrophobic benzyl choloride groups. Amphiphilic colloidal particles with ionic liquid groups were obtained by reacting with dodecyl imidazole. Pt nanoparticles were loaded onto the surface of amphiphilic colloidal particles by adsorption of chloroplatinic acid and further reduction by sodium borohydride. Scanning electron microscope(SEM), transmission electron microscope(TEM), X-ray diffractometer(XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR) were used to characterize the samples structures. The oxidation reaction of benzyl alcohol was used to evaluate the catalytic performance of amphiphilic colloidal particles loaded with Pt particles. The result indicates that the yield of benzoic acid is up to 90%.

Abstract:This work presents a sustainable approach for synthesizing esters from carboxylic acids, amino acids and carbohydrates using a robust and eco-friendly chitosan-incorporated ionic liquid under solvent-free conditions. Ionic liquids with carbon chain lengths ranging from 3 to 8 were integrated into the chitosan molecule, resulting in a heterogeneous catalyst optimized for esterification reactions. Among these, the 6-carbon chain ionic liquid demonstrated superior catalytic activity and substrate tolerance. The catalyst's effectiveness was confirmed using advanced analytical techniques. The acidity of the ionic liquid was assessed by observing the interaction between the synthesized IL6 (1,4-bis(5-carboxypentyl)pyrazine-1,4-diium ([BCPPD][Br])) and p -nitroaniline via UV-Vis studies. Chitosan-IL6, an ionic liquid supported on chitosan, functions as a heterogeneous catalytic system that can be easily removed from reaction mixtures through simple filtration. It also exhibits excellent reusability, maintaining high catalytic activity and structural integrity over 10 catalytic cycles. Moreover, the methodology was successfully scaled up for the gram-scale synthesis of key compounds such as diisopropyl azodicarboxylate, methyl nicotinate, methyl cysteinate, and glucose pentaacetate, highlighting its practical viability.

Abstract:Mesoporous poly(ionic liquid)s with zwitterionic structures have been successfully prepared. This synthesis made use of a facile template-free approach via precipitating an organic solution of an imidazolium-based poly(ionic liquid) homopolymer in a straightforward manner into ammonia-containing organic solvents. The complex products have a specific surface area up to 260 m(2) g(-1), and exist in a robust nanoparticle form. They could serve as active catalysts for the chemical fixation of CO2.

Abstract:We have reported a new approach to fabricate mesoporous silica composite nanosheets by milling the corresponding hollow spheres. The mesoporous nanosheets are amphiphilic, and can be well dispersible both in water and oil, serving as particulate emulsifiers in o/w or w/o systems. The mesoporous silica can assist other functional materials, for example metal and carbon to be dispersible. An example is given to demonstrate the support of catalysts for a heterogeneous catalytic aerobic oxidation of benzyl alcohols by Pt/silica composite nanosheets.

Abstract:Several kinds of novel porous materials, including micro/mesoporous composites were successfully synthesized by the double template method, which combined P123 and ionic liquids. The obtained porous materials were investigated by XRD and nitrogen adsorption-desorption. The results proved the basic structure of micro/mesoporous materials. Three kinds of Lewis acid ionic liquid catalysts were immobilized onto these porous materials by impregnation, and their catalytic performances were investigated in Friedel-Crafts alkylation between benzene and 1-dodecene. Results showed that clearer micro/mesoporous materials benefit to increase of 2-LAB (2-position-substituted linear alkyl benzene) selectivity.

Abstract:Background Due to their large surface area and distinctive adsorption affinity, covalent organic frameworks (COFs) appear to be good candidates as liquid chromatographic separation materials with good application prospect. The development of COF materials in chromatographic science is currently in an exploratory stage. Especially, the practicability of COF@silica composite materials as liquid chromatographic stationary phases needs further exploration. Reasonably integrating a functional component such as ionic liquid (IL) into the COF@silica composite materials may provide customized functionality to achieve the purpose of synthesizing multi-functional COF based stationary phases. Results In this study, an IL modified COF bonded silica composite material (IL-COF@SiO 2 ) was successfully synthesized by using an environmentally friendly deep eutectic solvent as the reaction medium instead of the frequently-used organic solvent. The synthesized IL-COF@SiO 2 composite material combines the excellent separation ability of COF and the excellent mass transfer function of spherical porous silica microsphere, and meanwhile, the introduction of IL endows COF@SiO 2 with preferable separation performance. The slurry-packed IL-COF@SiO 2 liquid chromatographic column could be applied to effectively separate hydrophobic and hydrophilic compounds with preferable separation selectivity and high column efficiency. By investigating the retention behavior and influencing factors, a mixed-mode retention mechanism was found. Multiple interaction forces endowed the IL-COF@SiO 2 with a hydrophilic-hydrophobic balance performance, demonstrating a good application prospect as a versatile liquid chromatographic separation material. Significance In this study, a new strategy is proposed for greenly synthesizing a novel IL-COF@SiO 2 composite material under mild conditions, which expands the potential application of COF materials in chromatographic science. One particular point to note is that the reaction medium in each step of the preparation process is low toxic and degradable deep eutectic solvent, which conforms to the concept of green chemistry.

Abstract:An environmentally friendly surface modification method was employed to synthesize a solid ionic liquid catalyst appropriate. The fabrication of green heterogeneous nano catalysts by chemical modification is determined to be very attractive in the case of the conversion of CO2 into value-added products. Herein, we reported chemical composition of epoxides, and carbon dioxide to prepare poly(propylene carbonate) in the presence of nanoparticles of CoMn2O4 stably placed on the surface of DFNS (dendritic fibrous nanosilica) by cellulose (cellulose@DFNS-CoMn2O4) as a nanocatalyst. Poly(propylene carbonate) with a Ma (average molecular weight) of 6497 kg/mol and 76% yield was obtained at 2 h and 100 °C as a reaction time and reaction temperature. With the aim of preparing the catalyst, cellulose was used to activate the DFNS surface to be employed as a substrate to support nanoparticles of CoMn2O4. Cellulose eliminates the need for a reducing agent and acts as a reducing natural agent and stabilizing for nanoparticles of CoMn2O4. The morphology of the final compound affected the catalytic feature of ionic liquid catalyst for synthesis of carbonyl compounds.

Abstract:We report simultaneous dissolution of agarose (AG) and chitosan (CH) in varying proportions in an ionic liquid (IL), 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride [C4mim][Cl]. Composite materials were constructed from AG-CH-IL solutions using the antisolvent methanol, and IL was recovered from the solutions. Composite materials could be uniformly decorated with silver oxide (Ag2O) nanoparticles (Ag NPs) to form nanocomposites in a single step by in situ synthesis of Ag NPs in AG-CH-IL sols, wherein the biopolymer moiety acted as both reducing and stabilizing agent. Cooling of Ag NPs-AG-CH-IL sols to room temperature resulted in high conductivity and high mechanical strength nanocomposite ionogels. The structure, stability and physiochemical properties of composite materials and nanocomposites were characterized by several analytical techniques, such as Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), CD spectroscopy, differential scanning colorimetric (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), gel permeation chromatography (GPC), and scanning electron micrography (SEM). The result shows that composite materials have good thermal and conformational stability, compatibility and strong hydrogen bonding interactions between AG-CH complexes. Decoration of Ag NPs in composites and ionogels was confirmed by UV-Vis spectroscopy, SEM, TEM, EDAX and XRD. The mechanical and conducting properties of composite ionogels have been characterized by rheology and current-voltage measurements. Since Ag NPs show good antimicrobial activity, Ag NPs -AG-CH composite materials have the potential to be used in biotechnology and biomedical applications whereas nanocomposite ionogels will be suitable as precursors for applications such as quasi-solid dye sensitized solar cells, actuators, sensors or electrochromic displays.
The Immobilization of Glycidyl-Group-containing Ionic Liquids and Its Application in CO2 Cycloaddition Reactions

Abstract:Covalent immobilization of glycidyl-group-containing ionic liquids (ILs) on organic and inorganic supports with functional surfaces was achieved, based on the fact that the glycidyl group can actively react with almost all nucleophilic, electrophilic, neutral, and free-radical species. By using polymer spheres with amino- and carboxyl-group-functionalized surfaces as organic supports and silicas (including SBA15 and silica gel) with amino groups attached as inorganic supports, the ionic liquid 1-glycidyl-butylimida-zolium chloride was successfully grafted onto these polymer and silica supports, respectively, through reactions between the glycidyl group in the IL and the polar groups on the support surfaces. The resultant samples were examined by transmission electron microscopy, solid-state C-13 NMR spectroscopy, IR spectroscopy, and ion chromatography. The activities of these resultant polymer- and silica-based catalysts were investigated for CO2 cycloaddition reactions with epoxides. It was demonstrated that these catalysts could effectively catalyze CO2 cycloaddition. In particular, the polymer supports generated synergistic effects with the IL in the coupling reaction of CO2 with propylene oxide, and the turnover frequency could reach about 1700 h(-1) when the IL attached to the NH2-functionalized polymer was used as the catalyst.

Abstract:Magnetic core‐shell dendritic mesoporous silica nanospheres immobilized with imidazolium‐based basic ionic liquid (Fe3O4@SiO2@DSiO2‐Im‐IL) have been successfully developed. The catalyst exhibits great efficiency in the synthesis of various benzopyran derivatives. The developed nanocatalyst found to be cost‐effective, highily recyclabe, and shows atom economy, hence it could be a greener pathway for the synthesis of the benzopyran derivatives. In this study, Magnetic core‐shell dendritic mesoporous silica nanospheres immobilized with imidazolium‐based di‐cationic ionic liquid (Fe3O4@SiO2@DSiO2‐Im‐IL) possessing a large surface area and numerous active site for adsorption of various molecules to carry out organic transformations have been successfully developed. The synthesized nanocatalyst was found to be easily recyclable by applying external magnetic force. The structure, morphology, thermal stability, and magnetic behavior of the synthesized magnetic nanocatalyst were confirmed by different physiochemical techniques like FT‐IR, P‐XRD, FE‐SEM, TGA, VSM, BET, and TEM analysis. The efficiency of the developed heterogeneous nanocatalyst has been investigated for the green synthesis of numerous benzopyran derivatives by employing different aldehydes and active methylene compounds. The catalyst exhibits marvellous activity and efficiency in terms of high product yield, less catalyst use, and wide substrate scope even at room temperature. Finally, after the successful formation of the product, the catalyst was regenerated by utilizing an external magnetic field. The catalyst has been reused multiple times without any noteworthy loss in its activity which confirms the stability of the developed catalyst. The preparation of the catalyst is cost‐effective, and shows atom economy with the utilization of green solvent and without any waste production, which authenticates that it could be a greener pathway for the synthesis of the benzopyran derivatives.
