Abstract:Organoboron compounds are a class of non-metallic catalysts that have been extensively studied in recent years and have shown excellent applicability for ring-opening homopolymerization of epoxides and copolymerization of epoxides with other comonomers. However, the binary electrophile/nucleophile catalytic systems often have reduced activity or be deactivated due to the entropic disadvantage under dilute conditions, and it is also difficult to afford polymer materials with high molecular weight. This paper reviews the progress of bifunctional organoboron-quaternary ammonium/phosphonium salt catalytic systems containing both electrophilic and nucleophilic centers in one molecule that was designed by our group, focuses on the design concepts and principles of such bifunctional organoboron catalysts, compares the polymerization mechanisms between bifunctional and binary organoboron catalytic systems, and summarizes the use of bifunctional organo-boron catalysts in the ring-opening polymerization of epoxides to prepare aliphatic polyethers, the copolymerization of epoxides and carbon dioxide/cyclic anhydride to prepare polycarbonates/polyesters. The future and trend of organoboron catalysts in polymer chemistry were prospected.

Abstract:A novel ionic liquid of acidic quaternary phosphonium salt type was synthesized to instead of sulfuric acid was investigated,and it with Pt/C form bi-catalyst system and was used for the one step synthesis of p-aminophenol by catalytic hydrogenation of nitrobenzene.Among the four acidic quaternary phosphonium salt ionic liquids,catalytic performance of [HSO3(CH2)4P(Ph)3]HSO4 is superior to [HSO3(CH2)4P(Ph)3]CF3SO3,[HSO3(CH2)4P(Ph)3]CH3(C6H4)SO3 and [HSO3(CH2)4P(C4H9)3]HSO4.Under the reaction conditions of 85 ℃,0.2 MPa,4 h,Pt/C 0.2 g,NB 3.5 g,Ils 40 mL(m(IL)/m(NB)=7),1 000 r/min,nitrobenzene conversion was 86.54% and paminophenol yield was 48.98%.The experimental results indicated that the bi-catalyst system can be reused.

Abstract:An array of novel 1,4-diazobicyclo[2.2.2]octane (DABCO) based ionic liquids were developed and used as recyclable catalysts for the aza-Michael addition at room temperature without any organic solvent. [DABCO-PDO][OAc] was found to be the most efficient catalyst, and the amount of catalyst was only 10 mol %. Various amines reacted with a wide range of α,β-unsaturated amides, smoothly affording target products in good to excellent yields within hours. Moreover, the catalyst could be reused up to eight times, still maintaining a high catalytic activity. Finally, a plausible mechanism was proposed. FTIR and computational chemistry were used to verify the catalytic mechanism.

Abstract:A novel P,N-bidentate ligand-assisted gold-catalyzed oxidative amination of β-amino-ynones has been developed, allowing the simple and efficient construction of various quaternary ammonium-olate salts in good to excellent yields. These unprecedented quaternary ammonium-olate salts can be isolated and purified via simple suction filtration. The broad substrate scope, easy purification, easy further transformation, and mild conditions make it a viable alternative for the synthesis of various quaternary ammonium-olate salts.

Abstract:A practical and straightforward bimetallic Pd/Cu catalytic system has been developed. This system affords various sulfonamides in one pot from easy-to-handle and readily available boronic acids, sulfur dioxide surrogate DABSO and O-benzoyl hydroxylamines in high yields. Without additional ligands, the newly developed catalytic system revealed a broad substrate scope for both partners and tolerated a wide array of functional groups even at low catalyst loadings. Furthermore, based on control experiments, a plausible mechanism has been proposed, in which sodium sulfinate has been isolated and identified as the crucial intermediate for this transformation.

Abstract:A solvent‐free method for the synthesis of quaternary ammonium salts (QAS) by iodoquaternization of alkenes with N‐heteroarenes is reported. Its advantages lie in energy‐saving and clean production by using iodine as the oxidant and manual grinding the starting materials, together with the complete atom economy and low process mass intensity (PMI) value. Demonstrated by 50 examples, the generated QAS is proved to be able to produce valuable chemicals, such as biological protease inhibitors, anti‐cancer agents and organic fluorescent materials.

Abstract:A newly prepared quaternary ammonium salt (QAS) gemini fluorosurfactants efficiently catalyze one-pot Mannich reactions of aldehydes, amines and ketones in aqueous media at ambient temperature to afford corresponding beta-aminocarbonyl compounds in good to excellent yields. Abstract:A novel species of metal amidoborane ammoniate, [Al(NH2BH3)(6)(3-)][Al(NH3)(6)(3+)] has been successfully synthesized in up to 95% via the one-step reaction of AlH3OEt2 with liquid NH(3)BH(3)nNH(3) (n = 1 similar to 6) at 0 degrees C. This solution based reaction method provides an alternative pathway to the traditional mechano-chemical ball milling methods, avoiding possible decomposition. MAS Al-27 NMR spectroscopy confirms the formulation of the compound as an Al(NH2BH3)(6)(3-) complex anion and an Al(NH3)(6)(3+) cation. Initial dehydrogenation studies of this aluminum based M-N-B-H compound demonstrate that hydrogen is released at temperatures as low as 65 degrees C, totaling similar to 8.6 equivalents of H-2 (10.3 wt %) upon heating to 105 degrees C. This method of synthesis offers a promising route towards the large scale production of metal amidoborane ammoniate moieties.

Abstract:A series of porous polymers bearing functional quaternary ammonium salts were solvothermally synthesized through the free radical copolymerization of divinylbenzene (DVB) and functionalized quaternary ammonium salts. The obtained polymers feature highly cross-linked matrices, large surface areas, and abundant halogen anions. These polymers were evaluated as heterogeneous catalysts for the synthesis of cyclic carbonates from epoxides and CO2 in the absence of co-catalysts and solvents. The results revealed that the synergistic effect between the functional hydroxyl groups and the halide anion Br(-) afforded excellent catalytic activity to cyclic carbonates. In addition, the catalyst can be easily recovered and reused for at least five cycles without significant loss in activity.

Abstract:Six-membered cyclic quaternary ammonium salts, which are widely involved in materials used both in scientific and industrial fields, were synthesized using the triazine-based reagent 2-chloro-4,6-dimethoxy-1,3,5-triazine. The combination of sodium tetrafluoroborate as an additive and acetonitrile as a solvent was shown to be effective in the prevention of side reactions. Significantly, this method is tolerant toward hydroxy and amino groups that are labile under the conventional conditions used for the synthesis of cyclic quaternary ammonium salts. Moreover, a sterically hindered piperidinium salt was prepared.

C18‐DABCO‐AA: A Novel Brønsted Acidic Gemini Surfactant for the Environmental Benign Synthesis of 2,3‐Dihydroquinazolin‐4(1H)‐ones in Water at Ambient Temperature

Abstract:We synthesized an acidic surfactant called C18‐DABCO‐AA, which demonstrated excellent surfactant properties, with a CMC of 0.80 mM and a pKa of 3.3. This surfactant effectively facilitates the synthesis of 2,3‐dihydroquinazolin‐4(1H)‐ones in water at 40 °C via the reaction of aromatic aldehydes or ketones with anthranilamide at its CMC. Additionally, the surfactant solution can be reused up to five times. We have successfully synthesized a new acidic surfactant named C18‐DABCO‐AA, which contains octadecyl and acetic acid substituent on DABCO (1,4‐diazabicyclo [2.2.2] octane) unit, with an excellent yield. The synthesized surfactant was analyzed using FT‐IR, 1H NMR, and 13C NMR spectroscopic techniques. Its thermal behavior was analyzed by using the TGA–DTA technique. Our analysis indicates that the synthesized surfactant has excellent surfactant properties. Its critical micelle concentration (CMC) is 0.80 mM as determined by the conductivity method and UV–vis absorption measurement at 298.15 K. Surfactant also showed strong acidic properties with a pKa of 3.3. It is the best catalyst for the synthesis of 2,3‐dihydroquinazolin‐4(1H)‐ones (DHQs) in water at 40 °C. The synthesis is achieved via two‐component reactions of various aromatic aldehydes and anthranilamide in water at a CMC concentration of C18‐DABCO‐AA. The method was also extended for synthesizing DHQs via two‐component reactions of different ketones and anthranilamide under similar reaction conditions. The products were achieved in with yields ranging from good to excellent within 60–90 min. Additionally, the aqueous solution with C18‐DABCO‐AA was reused up to five times with a minor decrease in product yield. The present protocol is fast, energy‐efficient, and can be used on a large scale for synthetic purposes. Additionally, it boasts impressive environmentally friendly credentials.

Abstract:Some acyclic acidic ionic liquids were prepared and used as the catalysts for the one-pot, three-component synthesis of -aminophosphonates from aldehydes, amines, and trimethylphosphite at room temperature in water. The products could simply be separated from the system of catalyst/water, and the catalysts could be reused at least six times without noticeably decreasing the catalytic activity.

Abstract:A highly efficient and simple synthesis of dithiocarbamates is reported in the one-pot reaction of amines, CS2, and alkyl halides without using a catalyst under solvent-free conditions. The mild reaction conditions, high yields, and broad scope of the reaction illustrate the good synthetic utility of this method. The reaction is a highly atom-economic process for production of dithiocarbamates and can be successfully used in large amount for the pharmaceutical or agrochemical industries.

Abstract:Various aliphatic, aromatic and heterocyclic aldehydes were efficiently transformed to the corresponding nitriles in a one-pot procedure by nickel-catalyzed oxidation with tetrabutylammonium peroxydisulfate in the presence of ammonium hydrogen carbonate under basic aqueous conditions. The process affords excellent yields of pure nitriles.
