Abstract:A mild, efficient, and environmentally benign protocol for the synthesis of tetrahydrobenzo[b]pyran derivatives in the presence of readily accessible, biodegradable, and choline hydroxide based ionic liquid as catalyst has been established. The key features of the reported methodology include good to excellent yields of desired products, simple work-up procedure and good recyclability of catalysts, which may be a practical alternative to the existing conventional processes for the preparation of 4-H pyrans to cater to the requirements of academia as well as industry.

Abstract:An unexpected cascade reaction of 2-nitrochalcones with isocyanoacetates has been reported for the efficient synthesis of indole carboxylic esters and pyranoindoles. The conversion was achieved by KOH-catalyzed cyclization and elimination of the nitro group with final decarbonylation-aromatization. The method was used to synthesize a series of potentially biologically active indole derivatives (49 examples) in 67-85% yields under transition-metal-free catalytic conditions.

Abstract:A protocol for the synthesis of 4-perfluoroalkylated 2 H -pyran-2-ones bearing indole skeleton is reported. This efficient synthesis involves a Et (3) N-promoted Michael addition/enolization/cyclization cascade process at 40 degrees C in air, using 3-(1-methyl-1 H -indol-3-yl)-3-oxopropanenitriles and methyl perfluoroalk-2-ynoates as the easily available starting materials. Various functionalized 6-(1-methyl-1 H -indol-3-yl)-2-oxo-4-(perfluoroalkyl)-2 H -pyran-5-carbonitrile derivatives were obtained in 44-99% yield.

Abstract:A multicomponent Kröhnke reaction route toward 2‐trifluoromethyl pyridines from reaction of chalcones with easily available and stable 1‐(3,3,3‐trifluoro‐2‐oxopropyl)pyridin‐1‐ium bromide and ammonium acetate is reported. The reaction is found to be general with a range of substituted chalcones, and the applicability of the methodology in gram scale is demonstrated. Preliminary results suggest that this transformation is initiated by 1,4‐Michael addition, followed by inter‐ and intramolecular nucleophilic addition, and elimination.

Abstract:Inherently chiral tetraoxacalix[2]arene[2]pyridines containing C(2) symmetry were synthesized efficiently from a macrocyclic condensation reaction of resorcinol derivatives with 2,6-dichloro-3-nitropyridine in a one-pot reaction manner, while tetraoxacalix[2]arene[2]pyridine with an ABCD-substitution pattern was prepared in a good yield by means of a stepwise fragment coupling approach. Postmacrocyclization chemical manipulations led to functionalized tetraoxacalix[2]arene[2]pyridines. A racemic sample was resolved into enantiopure (+)- and (-)-inherently chiral compounds.

Abstract:A new synthetic approach has emerged for constructing 9 H -pyrrolo[1,2- a ]indole scaffolds by the reactions between indoles and chalcones under metal- and solvent-free conditions at 80 °C. The reaction occurs smoothly in the presence of a Brønsted acidic ionic liquid, 1-methyl-3-(4-sulfobutyl)-1 H -imidazol-3-ium tosylate, as a catalyst, permitting the synthesis of the desired products with satisfactory yields. The developed protocol is applicable to the construction of biologically important pyrrolo[1,2- a ]indole derivatives from easily accessible chalcones having various substituents. The process commences with Michael addition to chalcones, followed by annulations induced by the elimination of a water molecule, yielding the 9 H -pyrrolo[1,2- a ]indole scaffolds. Several control experiments were carried out to achieve a better understanding of the reaction pathway. The feasibility of recycling the catalyst was also demonstrated. This method produces water as the sole byproduct and represents a green synthetic protocol. The clean reaction, easily accessible reactants, and the metal- and solvent-free and environmentally friendly reaction conditions are the notable advantages of this procedure. Abstract:A mild and efficient organocatalyzed [3+2] cycloaddition of isatin-derived ketimines and 2-ylideneindane-1,3-diones has been realized. The resulting spiro[oxindole-3,2′-pyrrolidine]s bearing both a spiro indane-1,3-dione motif and a trifluoromethyl group were obtained in high yields with good diastereo- and enantioselectivities. Abstract:An unexpected [5 + 1 + 3] cascade cyclization to the preparation of benzo[4,5]thieno[3,2-d]pyrimidine derivatives has been disclosed. In the new protocol, o-nitrochalcones reacted with elemental sulfur and guanidine promoted by NaOH, which reacted in EtOH for 20 min, providing structurally diverse benzo[4,5]thieno[3,2-d]pyrimidines with good yields (77-89%) and wide substrate compatibility (33 examples).
