Abstract:Three trimeric quaternary ammonium surfactants, having adamantane cores and different carbon chains, were synthesized using adamantane as the starting raw material. The target compounds were confirmed by elemental analysis, H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, and mass spectroscopy. The influences of reaction conditions on the yields of the key intermediate product 1,3,5-trihydroxyadamantane (3) were investigated. Surface properties of the target compounds were measured. The critical micelle concentration values of 1a, 1b, and 1c were 2mM, 1mM, and 0.5mM, respectively.

Abstract:Eight halogen quaternary ammonium cationic surfactants containing adamantane structure were successfully synthesized through quaterisation of the intermediate compound-N, N-dimethyl tertiary amine using halogen quaternary ammonium reagents. N-(1-adamantyl)-N, N-dimethylamine was synthesized through the Eschweiler-Clarke methylation reaction in which 1-adamantine and formaldehyde with excess formic acid were used as raw materials. The yields of the eight products were 90%, 85%, 75%, 61%, 44%, 54%, 87%, 45% respectively. The structures of all these compounds were confirmed by elemental analysis, IR, and 1H NMR. Surface tensions of these eight compounds' aqueous solutions with concentration of 0.1% and 1% were measured. The results showed that the surface tensions of these aqueous solutions decreased to different degrees compared with pure water. It was also found that the difference of surface activity among similar structure compounds with different anions (halide ions) was not significant. However, surface activity increased when the carbon chain lengths of the quaternary ammonium reagents increased. © All Rights Reserved.

Abstract:N-(1-Adamantyl)-N,N-dimethylamine was synthesized by Eschweiler-Clarke methylation reaction of 1-adamantine and formaldehyde in presence of excess formic acid firstly. Then five adamantane-based surfactants, including N-(1-adamantyl)-N,N-dimethyl-betaine, N-(1-adamantyl)-N,N-dimethylbutyl-1-ammonium bromide, N-(1-adamantyl)-N,N-dimethyloctyl-1-ammonium bromide, N-(1-adamantyl)-N,N-dimethyldodecyl-1-ammonium bromide and N-(1-adamantyl)-N,N-dimethyl-hexadecyl-1-ammonium bromide were prepared via quaternarization reactions of N-(1-adamantyl)-N,N-dimethylamine with the sodium chloroacetate, 1-bromobutane, 1-bromooctane, 1-bromododecane and 1-bromohexadecane, respectively. The structures of products were identified by elemental analysis, IR, (1)HNMR, etc.

Abstract:A new tertiary amine derivative of adamantane N,N,N',N'-tetramethyl-1, 3-disaminomethyl adamantane dihydrochloride (1), which is a key intermediate for preparing Gemini surfactants and bola surfactants, has been synthesized in this paper. Abstract:A novel trimeric cationic surfactant was firstly synthesized with epoxy resin and tertiary amine as main materials. A new method for synthesizing oligomeric surfactants was researched and the synthesis conditions were optimized. The products were analyzed by chemical analysis, infrared absorb spectroscopy and mass spectrometry of electrospray ionization respectively. The results show that under ~50 °C adding epoxy resin into tertiary amine with the ratio 3∶1 and reacting for 7 h are the optimize conditions.

Abstract:This paper discusses a series of single and double long-chain 1,3,5-triazine amphoteric surfactants, which were synthesized by cyanuric chloride, aliphatic amines and sodium 2-(methyl amino) ethane sulfonate. Their structures were confirmed by MS, NMR and IR. The critical micelle concentrations (CMC) and surface tensions at CMC (γCMC) of all prepared amphoteric surfactants were determined by K100C processor tensiometer at 25°C. As the length of the hydrophobic chain of single long-chain 1,3,5-triazine amphoteric surfactants increases, the values of their CMC and γCMC gradually decrease, and the minimum average area per surfactant molecule (Amin) increases. The γCMC values of double long-chain 1,3,5-triazine amphoteric surfactants are observed to be obviously lower than that of the single long-chain ones. For double long-chain 1,3,5-triazine amphoteric surfactants, the more symmetrical hydrophobic chains are, the lower γCMC values are. When two hydrophobic chains are symmetrical, the longer hydrophobic chains, the lower values of γCMC and Amin. However, the γCMC and Amin of the surfactant with double 12 hydrophobic chains ascends.

Abstract:A trimeric quaternary ammonium salt surfactant containing polyoxyethylene chains was synthesized from fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ether, pentamethyldiethylenetriamine and thionyl chloride by a two-step process. Its chemical structure was characterized, and the surface activity in aqueous solution was studied at different temperatures. The results showed that when the concentration attains the CMC (1.0 mmol/L), the surface tension is 38.9 mN m −1 and the conductivity is 105.3μS cm −1 at 25 °C. These show that the trimeric quaternary ammonium salt surfactant containing polyoxyethylene chains exhibits high surface activity and effectively reduces the surface tension of water.

Abstract:A new type of anionic trimeric surfactant containing easily degradable carboxylic groups and hydrophilic hydroxyl groups in its molecular structure was synthesized based on harmless and non-toxic propanetriol glycidyl ether, laurylamine and sodium chloroacetate. The title product was characterized by IR and MS. The equilibrium surface tension of the final product was 34.0458mN/m (t=25℃) and 29.1556mN/m(t=60℃), its critical micelle concentration(CMC) was 8.203×10~ -6 mol/L. The content of actives was 89.5. The result also indicated that the new trimeric surfactant exhibited advantages of foaming, foam-stabilizing and lime soap dispersing power(LSDP).

Abstract:A novel cationic surfactant Guerbet-cetyl trimethyl ammonium chloride (G-CTAC) was synthesized by combining several traditional synthetic processes in laboratory. The molecular structure of G-CTAC was characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectra and proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1HNMR). This new amphiphile exhibited excellent performances in aqueous solution, which was investigated by surface tension measurement, contact angle on parafilm, particle size of aggregates, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), emulsifying experiments, and antistatic tests. It was found that the new quaternary ammonium compound could effectively decrease the surface tension of aqueous solution to 26.2 mN m−1 with the critical micelle concentration (CMC) being 5.9 mmol L−1. In addition, the cationic surfactant synthesized could efficiently decrease the contact angle of aqueous solution on paraffin surface. We suppose that these unique properties are attributed to the presence of the branching Guerbet-cetyl being hydrophobic group in the molecule. Moreover, according to TEM observations, this quaternary ammonium compound was inclined to aggregate into vesicles spontaneously without induction of any other additives in aqueous solution. Antistatic tests and emulsifying experiments were also conducted to explore the potential applications of this new material.

Abstract:The quaternary ammonium salt cationic surfactant with long-chain alkyl and epoxy groups is very important intermediate product to synthesis novel functional surfactants. In this paper, a kind of quaternary ammonium salt cationic surfactant with long-chain alkyl and epoxy groups was synthesized by traditional method with epichlorohydrin and N-octadecyldimethylamine as raw materials. During the synthesis, the best reaction conditions have been obtained, that the reaction temperature is 35 degrees C, the reaction time is 4 h and the best mol ratio of epichlorohydrin to timethylamine is 5:1. In addition, the synthesized intermediate with long-chain alkyl and epoxy groups plays a very important roles in the development of cationic surfactant.

Abstract:A number of techniques, including conductivity, surface tension, dynamic light scattering, transmission electron microscopy, and 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), and 1H–1H 2D nuclear Overhauser effect spectroscopy (1H–1H 2D NOESY), have been used to investigate the effect of amide bonds on the interfacial and assembly properties of a cationic surfactant, N-anilinoformylmethyl-N-cetyl-N,N-dimethyl ammonium chloride (AMC-C16), in aqueous solutions. The adsorption of AMC-C16 has been found to be much better than that of the conventional cationic surfactant, benzyl cetyldimethylammonium chloride (BAC-16) at the air/water interface and in solution. The surface tension measurements show the presence of two critical aggregation concentrations (CAC1 and CAC2) for AMC-C16. The presence of a strong intermolecular hydrogen bond of AMC-C16 was confirmed by 1H NMR and FT-TR. The molecular interactions of AMC-C16 were detected by 1H–1H 2D NOESY. The results show that the rigid group (phenyl) of AMC-C16 was partially overlapped with its alkyl chain in aqueous solution, and the possible aggregation behavior for AMC-C16 was proposed. The effects of an inorganic salt (NaCl) and an organic salt (C6H5COONa) to the aggregates of AMC-C16 have been discussed.This article has not yet been cited by other publications.

Abstract:The invention discloses a triazole ring-containing quaternary ammonium salt type cationic surfactant and a synthesis method thereof. The synthesis method comprises the following steps of: 1) sequentially adding an active tertiary amine group-containing amine type compound, a first solvent and a compound containing alkynyl and halogen into a reactor, performing a reaction and then precipitating to get a product; and 2) dissolving the product obtained in the step 1) and a compound containing an azido group and long-chain alkane or arene in a second solvent under the protection of nitrogen, further adding a copper catalyst and an amine type ligand, performing a reaction, and further performing precipitation, separation and drying to get a target product. The triazole ring-containing quaternary ammonium salt type cationic surfactant can be used as an antibacterial material, a phase transfer agent, a metal anti-corrosion agent, a transition metal ion ligand or the surfactant.

Abstract:A novel jellyfish-shaped triazine hexamer quaternary ammonium chloride surfactant (TH12QC) was synthesized, which consisted of one triazine spacer group and six long flexible hydrophobic chains. The molecular structure and aggregation behavior of TH12QC was investigated by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), surface tension, electrical conductivity, dynamic light scattering (DLS), transmission electron microscope (TEM), etc. The results show that the jellyfish-shaped TH12QC has better surface activity and lower surface tension than traditional ionic and Gemini surfactants in aqueous solution. There are two inflection points in the curve of conductivity versus concentration of the TH12QC aqueous solution, which correspond to the critical aggregation concentration (CAC) and the critical micelle concentration (CMC) respectively. The existence of CAC indicates that there is a pre-aggregation process before TH12QC forms micelles. The results of DLS and TEM show that network pre-aggregation, spherical aggregation and dense spherical aggregation were observed in different concentration of TH12QC aqueous solution, and the electrostatic equilibrium of the system subtly depends on the concentration of the solution. In addition, intramolecular and intermolecular hydrogen bonding is also an important factor. This study provides a method for studying the aggregation behavior and morphology of oligomeric surfactants with rigid spacer groups.
Syntheses and Properties of Novel Ionic Twin-tail Trisiloxane Surfactants

Abstract:To improve the hydrolysis resistant ability (HRA) of ionic trisiloxane surfactants, three novel ionic twin-tail trisiloxane surfactants have been synthesized. Their formulas are of (R)(2)N+(CH3)(2)I-(A), (R)(2)N(CH2)(3)SO3-Na+ (B) and (R)(2)N+ (I)(CH3)(CH2)(3)SO3-Na+ (C) [R = Me3SiOSiMe(CH2)(3)OSiMe3], respectively. Their structures were characterized by ESI-MS, 1HNMR and C-13-NMR spectroscopy. The surface activity and hydrolysis resistance of the synthesized ionic twin-tail trisiloxane surfactants are significantly better than that of the ionic singletail analogue surfactants. The critical aggregation concentration (CAC) values of these ionic twin-tail trisiloxane surfactants are at levels of 10(-6) similar to 10(-5) mol L-1 and the surface tension (gamma) values of their aqueous solutions at CAC are below 21.0 mN m(-1). The gamma values of the aqueous solutions of anionic trisiloxane surfactant B and zwitterionic trisiloxane surfactant C are still less than 21 mN m(-1) after having been placed in alkaline environment (pH 10.0) for 29 days. However, the spreading ability (SA) of their aqueous solutions on low-energy solid surfaces is not as good as that of the nonionic twin-tail trisiloxane surfactants previously prepared by us. By weight loss methods the cationic trisiloxane surfactant A was confirmed to be able to use as a corrosion inhibitor. The structure and surface area per molecule (a(m)(s)) of zwitterionic surfactant C were also discussed.

Abstract:A series of dimeric quaternary ammonium surfactants(m-5-m,m=8,12,16) were prepared from long-chain alkyl amine and 1,5-dibromic pentane,and their surface activities were examined using surface tension and conductometry.The results show that all products have good surface activities,and with increasing chain length,their CMC decreases monotonously,while γCMC decreases firstly and increases again.8-5-8 has the poorest surface activity among the three dimeric surfactants.

Abstract:Transformations of 1-(dichloromethyl)adamantane and its derivatives in strongly acidic media have been studied. The nitroxylation of the title compound has been found not to be accompanied by nitrolysis of the dichloromethyl group. A series of 3-substituted 1-(dichloromethyl)adamantanes have been obtained via generation of tertiary carbenium ion; the conservation of the dichloromethyl group in the products makes them promising for further modification.

Abstract:A novel perfluoroalkyl-containing quaternary ammonium salt was synthesized from N-methyl diethanolamine (MDEA) and perfluorinated hexyl ethyl iodide. The effects of solvent, reaction temperature,reactant molar ratio,solvent volume and reaction time on reaction on conversion rate were studied. The optimal process parameters for synthesizing product were obtained by orthogonal experiment,which are 8 mL n-butyl alcohol,90℃ reaction temperature,42 h reaction time,2.5∶1 molar ratio of perfluorinated hexyl ethyl iodide and MDEA. The conversion rate of MDEA was 93.75%. The structure of product was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance spectrum. The surface properties of the surfactant were studied by measuring the surface tension of the product aqueous solution. The results showed that the critical micellar concentration (CMC) of the above perfluoroalkyl-containing quaternary ammonium salt was 1.518 mmol/L,theγCMC was 9.3 mN/m. The single molecule saturated adsorption,single molecule average areas on the saturated adsorption layer,and the micellization standard free energy were 0.354×10-10 mol/cm2,4.69 nm2,and-26.03 kJ/mol,respectively. Compared with similar products,the product exhibited excellent surface properties.
