Abstract:A new and straightforward method for convenient synthesis of quinolines via a ruthenium-catalyzed hydrogen-transfer strategy has been demonstrated. By employing a commercially available ruthenium catalyst system, different alpha-2-nitroaryl alcohols were efficiently converted in combination with a variety of alcohols into various substituted products in reasonable to good yields upon isolation. The synthetic protocol is operationally simple with a broad substrate scope, and there is no need for the use of specialized reducing agents, making it a practical approach for versatile preparation of various quinoline derivatives.

Abstract:This study aims to develop a practical and facile one-pot synthesis of 2- substituted quinazolines. Using a commercially available and structurally simple ruthenium( II) complex as the catalyst to synthesize a series of quinazoline derivatives via acceptorless dehydrogenative coupling. The mechanism of this reaction was explored by control reaction and DFT calculation. This protocol offers access to a diverse array of quinazoline derivatives (52 examples) in moderate to excellent yields (29%-98%). In summary, we have developed an efficient one-pot ruthenium (II)-catalyzed ADC synthesis of quinazoline under an air atmosphere. The reaction only produces hydrogen and water as by-products, serving as a sustainable and atom-efficient synthetic approach.

Abstract:A new benzylation protocol, enabling straightforward access to β-benzylated quinolines, has been demonstrated. By employing readily available [RuCl2(p-cymene)]2 as a catalyst and O2 as a sole green oxidant, various 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinolines were efficiently converted in combination with aryl aldehydes into desired products in a step- and atom-economic fashion together with the advantages of excellent functional group tolerance and chemoselectivity, offering an important basis for the transformation of saturated N-heterocycles into functionalized N-heteroaromatics via a dehydrogenative cross-coupling strategy. Mechanistic investigations support that the reaction undergoes a monodehydrogenation-triggered β-benzylation mode.

Abstract:A new one‐pot synthetic protocol, enabling the facile access to 2‐alkylaminoquinolines and 1,8‐naphthyridines by successive ruthenium‐catalyzed dehydrogenative annulation and N‐alkylation processes, has been demonstrated. A series of 2‐aminoarylmethanols were efficiently converted in combination with different types of nitriles and alcohols into various desired products in moderate to excellent yields after isolation. Advantageously, the synthesis proceeds with high atom‐efficiency, broad substrate scope, operational simplicity, no need for external hydrogen sources and less environmentally benign halogenated reagents, thus offering a practical approach to access these two types of compounds that are currently difficult to prepare with the conventional methods.

Abstract:A highly enantioselective rhodium(I)-catalyzed dearomative arylation or alkenylation of easily available N-alkylquinolinium salts is reported, thus providing an effective and practical approach to the synthesis of dihydroquinolines in up to 99 % ee. This reaction tolerates a wide range of functional groups with respect to both the organic boronic acids and the quinoline starting materials. Moreover, the synthetic utility of this protocol is demonstrated in the formal asymmetric synthesis of bioactive tetrahydroquinoline and the total syntheses of (-)-angustureine and (+)-cuspareine.

The protocol uses readily available substituted 2-halobenzoic acids, 2-bromobenzaldehyde, 2-bromophenyl ketones and guanidines as the starting materials, inexpensive copper(I) iodide as the catalyst, and the method has important application values for construction of N-heterocycles in organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry.

Abstract:A novel and moderate synthesis of 2,5-disubstituted oxazoles and oxazolines involving ruthenium(II) porphyrin–copper chloride catalyzed cyclization was developed. These reactions using readily available benzene carboxylic acids and phenylethenes or phenylacetylenes are performed under mild conditions. The reactions proceed in series, giving rise to the formation of an intermolecular C–N bond and an intramolecular C–O bond, which yield oxazole or oxazoline derivatives simultaneously.

Abstract:Herein, a novel chelation-assisted C–H arylation reaction of benzo[h]quinoline is described. This transformation, using [RuCl2(p-cymene)]2 as the catalyst and cheap and easily accessible arylsulfonyl chlorides as the arylation source, featured simple reaction conditions, a broad substrate scope, and functional group tolerance. Abstract:The bidentate N, N, donor phenyl‐azo‐naphthaldoxime NpLH, 1 was used to synthesize the ruthenium(II) complex trans‐[Ru(NpL)(CO)Cl(PPh3)2], 2. It has been characterized by SCXRD, electrochemical and spectral studies. Computational analysis indicates that the low‐lying p*‐LUMO of the complex has substantial azo‐character of coordinated ligand. This property has been exploited to form an efficient electron transfer pre‐catalyst to effectuate dehydrogenative functionalization of a large number of benzyl alcohols to quinazolin‐4(3H)‐ones via condensation with diverse o‐amino benzamides as well as N‐substituted benzamides under aerobic conditions (57 entries). A reaction mechanism has been projected via isolation of intermediates and certain control experiments. Furthermore, it has been substantiated by theoretical scrutiny using density functional theory (DFT) calculation. The catalytic cycle involves stepwise hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) from benzyl alcohols to the Nazo atoms of the coordinated ligand with subsequent removal of the H‐atoms from the Nazo atoms to regenerate the active catalyst.

Abstract:Homochiral 2-methylquinoline derivatives have been synthesized and applied in the enantioselective addition of diethylzinc to aldehydes. Good yields and enantiomeric excesses of up to 91.4% were observed in these reactions.
