Abstract:A ring R is called left P-coherent in case each principal left ideal of R is finitely presented. A left R-module M (resp. right R-module N) is called D-injective (resp. D-flat) if Ext(1) (G, M) = 0 (resp. Tor(1) (N, G) = 0) for every divisible left R-module G. It is shown that every left R-module over a left P-coherent ring R has a divisible cover; a left R-module M is D-injective if and only if M is the kernel of a divisible precover A -> B with A injective; a finitely presented right R-module L over a left P-coherent ring R is D-flat if and only if L is the cokernel of a torsionfree preenvelope K -> F with F flat. We also study the divisible and torsionfree dimensions of modules and rings. As applications, some new characterizations of volt Neumann regular rings and PP rings are given.

Abstract:Let R be a ring. A right R-module C is called cotorsion if Ext(R)(1)(F, C) = 0 for any flat right R-module F. In this paper, we first give some results on cotorsion envelopes that are analogous to those on injective envelopes. Then we characterize those rings R for which every cotorsion right R-module is A-injective, where A is a nonemptry collection of right ideals of R. Finally, some new characterizations of right perfect rings and von Neumann regular rings are given.

Then we characterize Mittag-Leffler modules and f -projective modules over R × M . Finally, we investigate when R⋉M is a left Π-coherent ring. In addition, some applications are given in formal triangular matrix rings.

Abstract:We use the concept of a regular object with respect to another object in an arbitrary category, defined in \cite{dntd}, in order to obtain the transfer of regularity in the sense of Zelmanowitz between the categories $R-$mod and $S-$mod, when $S$ is an excellent extension of the ring $R$. Consequently, we obtain a result of \cite{ps}: if $S$ is an excellent extension of the ring $R$, then $S$ is von Neumann regular ring if and only if $R$ is also von Neumann regular ring. In the second part, using relative regular modules, we give a new proof of a classical result: the von Neumann regular property of a ring is Morita invariant. Finally, the von Neumann regularity of the Morita ring is investigated.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce a new generalization of coherent rings. Let m be a positive integer and d a positive integer or d = infinity. A ring R is called a left (m, d)-coherent ring in case every m-presented left R-module N with pd(N) <= d is (m + l)-presented. It is shown that there are many similarities between coherent rings and (m, d)-coherent rings. Some applications are also given.

Abstract:Let $R\ltimes M$ be a trivial extension of a ring $R$ by an $R$-$R$-bimodule $M$. We first study how to construct torsion pairs over $R\ltimes M$ from torsion pairs over $R$. Some characterizations of finitely generated (presented) modules, flat modules and coherent rings relative to a torsion pair over $R\ltimes M$ are obtained. Then we discuss the transfers of torsion pairs over $R\ltimes M$ to $R$. Finally, some applications are given in Morita context rings.

Abstract:In this paper, we generalize ordinary derivation and Jordan derivation of a ring to the concepts of P-derivation and P-Jordan derivation of a ring respectively. Some properties, e.g. the composition of P-derivations and P-Jordan derivations, are given. Moreover, it proved that if R/P(R) is 2-torsion free for a ring R and its prime radical P(R), P-Jordan derivations of R are P-derivations. More mainly, some conclusions on the commutativity of R/I and R/P(R) are obtained via P-derivations and P-Jordan derivations, for a prime ideal I of R.

Abstract:In this article, we introduce the notion of regular fusible modules. Let $R$ be a ring with an identity and $M$ an $R$-module. An element $0\neq m\in M$ is said to be regular fusible if there exists $r\in R$, a non zero-divisor of $M$, such that $mr$ can be written as the sum of a torsion element and a torsion free element in $M$. $M$ is called regular fusible if every nonzero element of $M$ is regular fusible. We characterize regular fusible modules in terms of fusible modules. In addition, we show that a regular fusible module over a right duo ring is reduced and nonsingular. Moreover, we study the regular fusible property under Cartesian product, trivial extension ring, and module of a fractions. Also, we characterize division rings in terms of fusible modules.

Abstract:We study (relative) 𝒦-Mittag–Leffler modules, with emphasis on the class 𝒦 of absolutely pure modules. A final goal is to describe the 𝒦-Mittag–Leffler abelian groups as those that are, modulo their torsion part, ℵ1-free. Several more general results of independent interest are derived on the way. In particular, every flat 𝒦-Mittag–Leffler module (for 𝒦 as before) is Mittag–Leffler. A question about the definable subcategories generated by the divisible modules and the torsion-free modules, resp., has been left open.

Abstract:Let τ be a finite type hereditary torsion theory on the category of all modules over a commutative ring. The purpose of this paper is to give two applications of Nagata rings and modules in the sense of Jara [Nagata rings, Front. Math. China 10 (2015) 91–110]. First they are used to obtain Chase's Theorem for τ -coherent rings. In particular, we obtain the w -version of Chase's Theorem, where w is the classical star operation in ideal theory. In the second half, we apply they to characterize τ -flatness in the sense of Van Oystaeyen and Verschoren [ Relative Invariants of Rings-The Commutative Theory , Monographs and Textbooks in Pure and Applied Mathematics, Vol. 79 (Marcel Dekker, Inc., New York, 1983)].

Abstract:A module over a ring R is pure projective provided it is isomorphic to a direct summand of a direct sum of finitely presented modules. We develop tools for the classification of pure projective modules over commutative noetherian rings. In particular, for a fixed finitely presented module M, we consider Add ⁡ ( M ) {\operatorname{Add}(M)} , which consists of direct summands of direct sums of copies of M. We are primarily interested in the case where R is a one-dimensional, local domain, and in torsion-free (or Cohen–Macaulay) modules. We show that, even in this case, Add ⁡ ( M ) {\operatorname{Add}(M)} can have an abundance of modules that are not direct sums of finitely generated ones. Our work is based on the fact that such infinitely generated direct summands are all determined by finitely generated data. Namely, idempotent/trace ideals of the endomorphism ring of M and finitely generated projective modules modulo such idempotent ideals. This allows us to extend the classical theory developed to study the behaviour of direct sum decomposition of finitely generated modules comparing with their completion to the infinitely generated case. We study the structure of the monoid V * ⁢ ( M ) {V^{*}(M)} , of isomorphism classes of countably generated modules in Add ⁡ ( M ) {\operatorname{Add}(M)} with the addition induced by the direct sum. We show that V * ⁢ ( M ) {V^{*}(M)} is a submonoid of V * ⁢ ( M ⊗ R R ^ ) {V^{*}(M\otimes_{R}\widehat{R})} , this allows us to make computations with examples and to prove some realization results.

Congruence modules and the Wiles-Lenstra-Diamond numerical criterion in higher codimensions

Abstract:We define a congruence module $\Psi_A(M)$ associated to a surjective $\mathcal O$-algebra morphism $\lambda\colon A \to \mathcal{O}$, with $\mathcal{O}$ a discrete valuation ring, $A$ a complete noetherian local $\mathcal{O}$-algebra regular at $\mathfrak{p}$, the kernel of $\lambda$, and $M$ a finitely generated $A$-module. We establish a numerical criterion for $M$ to have a free direct summand over $A$ of positive rank. It is in terms of the lengths of $\Psi_A(M)$ and the torsion part of $\mathfrak{p}/\mathfrak{p}^2$. It generalizes results of Wiles, Lenstra, and Diamond, that deal with the case when the codimension of $\mathfrak{p}$ is zero. Number theoretic applications include integral (non-minimal) $R=\mathbb T$ theorems in situations of positive defect conditional on certain standard conjectures. Here $R$ is a deformation ring parametrizing certain Galois representations and $\mathbb T$ is a Hecke algebra. An example is a modularity lifting for 2-dimensional $\ell$-adic Galois representations over an imaginary quadratic field. The proofs combine our commutative algebra results with a generalization due to Calegari and Geraghty of the patching method of Wiles and Taylor--Wiles and level raising arguments that go back to Ribet. The results provide new evidence in favor of the intriguing, and as yet fledgling, torsion analog of the classical Langlands correspondence. We also prove unconditional integral $R=\mathbb T$ results for Hecke algebras $\mathbb T$ acting on weight one cohomology of Shimura curves over $\mathbb Q$. This leads to a torsion Jacquet--Langlands correspondence comparing integral Hecke algebras acting on weight one cohomology of Shimura curves and modular curves. In this case the cohomology has abundant torsion and so our correspondence cannot be deduced by means of the classical Jacquet--Langlands correspondence.

Abstract:Algebra Colloquium, Volume 31, Issue 02, Page 181-198, June 2024. We study the structure of rings which satisfy the von Neumann regularity of commutators, and call a ring [math] C-regular if [math] for all [math], [math] in [math]. For a C-regular ring [math], we prove [math], where [math], [math], [math], [math] are the Jacobson radical, upper nilradical, Wedderburn radical, and center of a given ring [math], respectively, and [math] denotes the polynomial ring with a set [math] of commuting indeterminates over [math]; we also prove that [math] is semiprime if and only if the right (left) singular ideal of [math] is zero. We provide methods to construct C-regular rings which are neither commutative nor von Neumann regular, from any given ring. Moreover, for a C-regular ring [math], the following are proved to be equivalent: (i) [math] is Abelian; (ii) every prime factor ring of [math] is a duo domain; (iii) [math] is quasi-duo; and (iv) [math] is reduced.

Cohen-Macaulay representations of invariant subrings

Abstract:We investigate Cohen-Macaulay representations of quotient singularities $R:=l[[x_1,\cdots,x_d]]^G$ where $l$ is a field and $G$ is a finite group acting on $l[[x_1,\cdots,x_d]]$ as a ring, not necessarily as an $l$-algebra, with $|G|$ not divided by ${\rm char}\, l$. In fact, if we put $k:=l^G$, then we may assume that $G$ is a subgroup of $GL_d(l)\rtimes{\rm Gal}(l/k)$. We show that $R$ has a generator giving an NCCR and therefore when $d=2$, it is of finite Cohen-Macaulay type. Additionally, we completely describe its Auslander-Reiten quiver, which is often non-simply laced, as a quotient of a certain quiver. Moreover, we also prove that two-dimensional rings of finite Cohen-Macaulay type of equicharacteristic zero are precisely quotient singularities of this form, which generalizes Esnault and Auslander's result. Combining these results, we prove that the quivers that may arise as the Auslander-Reiten quiver of a two-dimensional Gorenstein ring of finite Cohen-Macaulay type of equicharacteristic zero are either doubles of extended Dynkin diagrams or ones having loops. To accomplish these, we establish two results which are of independent interest. First, we prove the existence of $(d-1)$-almost split sequences for arbitrary Cohen-Macaulay normal rings having NCCR which are not necessarily isolated singularities. Second, we make it possible to determine simple modules over skew group algebras by relating them to those over certain group algebras.
