Abstract:Vehicle control unit (VCU) plays an important role in a fuel cell hybrid vehicle, it is not only optimizing the energy distribution between two on board sources, but also ensuring vehicle safety and having significant impacts on reliability of the key components such as fuel cell system. To develop and verify the functions of VCU, a distributed real-time HIL simulation platform was developed. The developed platform is based on RT-Lab, and consists of six subsystems as described below: 1) Host and monitoring PC, which creates the real time simulation models; 2) Virtual vehicle. Three target PCs connected by fire wire are running dynamic models downloaded from the host PC, the input information and computing results are communicated with other subsystems via CAN bus; 3) driver interfaces. The pedals, switches and displays of driver arc integrated in this platform to simulate the real driving situations, moreover, the mis-operation of driver could be created either manually or automatically to verify the fault tolerant function of VCU; 4) VCU interface. The characteristics of all the inputs and outputs of VCU are exactly the same of which used in real vehicle; 5) Battery in the loop device. The characteristics of battery is non-linear and time-varying, leading to accumulated error in simulation, to solve this problem, a machine is integrated to conduct charging and discharging of battery modules in accordance with the command from CAN bus and feeding back real voltages and temperatures to the simulation model; and 6) CAN bus communication system. The platform has been used for control algorithm development and VCU function testing for the fuel cell hybrid city bus supported by Chinese National 863 projects.
