Abstract:Net primary product (NPP) had a leading role in studying global carbon cycle and global warming. The statistical method has been used widely due to its simple. After literature review, we find that there are various kinds of independent variables, which can be classified into two kinds of independent variables: atmosphere factors and vegetation indices. Among these parameters, three kinds of atmosphere factors are included: temperature, precipitation, and altitude. However, for vegetation indices, the indices are diversity a lot, such as LAI, NDVI and EVI and so on. Which is the best vegetation indicator for NPP simulation and why they select these indices? Are there any other kinds of vegetation indices have more ability to explain NPP? Therefore, in this paper, we aim at finding some more powerful explanatory variables to help us estimating the annual NPP values. Considering the parameters' spatial non-stationarity character, geographically weighted regression (GWR) is included instead of ordinary least squares (OLS) regression method. By comparing among all kinds of vegetation indices, we find the maximum value of NDVI of a year is the best independent variable for NPP estimation. In order to validation our results we also compared them with MODIS NPP products. Results indicate that there is a significant improvement in model performance by using GWR and we can combine the meteorological data and vegetation indices of remote sensing product to simulate NPP for ever year.
