Abstract: In this paper, we prove some convergence theorems for the mean curvature flow of closed submanifolds in the unit sphere $\mathbb{S}^{n+d}$ under integral curvature conditions. As a consequence, we obtain several differentiable sphere theorems for certain submanifolds in $\mathbb{S}^{n+d}$.

Abstract:We consider the problem of deforming a one-parameter family of hypersurfaces immersed into closed Riemannian manifolds with positive curvature operator. The hypersurface in this family satisfies mean curvature flow while the ambient metric satisfying the normalized Ricci flow. We prove that if the initial background manifold is an approximation of a spherical space form and the initial hypersurface also satisfies a suitable pinching condition, then either the hypersurfaces shrink to a round point in finite time or converge to a totally geodesic sphere as the time tends to infinity.

Abstract:Recently, Pipoli and Sinestrari [Pipoli, G. and Sinestrari, C., Mean curvature flow of pinched submanifolds of ℝℙ n , Comm. Anal. Geom. , 25 , 2017, 799–846] initiated the study of convergence problem for the mean curvature flow of small codimension in the complex projective space ℝℙ m . The purpose of this paper is to develop the work due to Pipoli and Sinestrari, and verify a new convergence theorem for the mean curvature flow of arbitrary codimension in the complex projective space. Namely, the authors prove that if the initial submanifold in ℝℙ m satisfies a suitable pinching condition, then the mean curvature flow converges to a round point in finite time, or converges to a totally geodesic submanifold as t → ∞. Consequently, they obtain a differentiable sphere theorem for submanifolds in the complex projective space.

Abstract:We consider the problem of conformally deforming a metric by a fully nonlinear flow on a compact manifold with totally geodesic boundary. We prove that the k-curvature defined by the modified Schouten tensor always can be deformed in a natural way to a constant at exponential rate and the boundary preserves totally geodesic.

Abstract:In this paper a flow of convex hypersurfaces in the Euclidean space by the linear combination of the mean curvature and the n-th root of the Gauss-Kronecker curvature is considered. It is proved that such deforming convex hypersurfaces converge to a round sphere in the Huisken's sense.

Abstract: We investigate the convergence of the mean curvature flow of arbitrary codimension in Riemannian manifolds with bounded geometry. We prove that if the initial submanifold satisfies a pinching condition, then along the mean curvature flow the submanifold contracts smoothly to a round point in finite time. As a consequence we obtain a differentiable sphere theorem for submanifolds in a Riemannian manifold.

Abstract:Let M be an n-dimensional oriented compact submanifold with parallel mean curvature in the unit sphere $S^{n+p}$. Denote by H and S the mean curvature and the squared length of the second fundamental form of M, respectively. We obtain a classification theorem of M if it satisfies $S+\lambda _2\le \alpha (n,H)$, where $\lambda _{2}$ is the second largest eigenvalue of the fundamental matrix and $\alpha (n,H)$ is defined as in Theorem B.

Abstract:We first prove that a properly immersed static n-dimensional submanifold (Delta H = 0) with restricted growth of the curvature at infinity in Fn+p(c)(c >= 0) is totally umbilical if the Will more functional is pinched by a positive constant depending only on n. Secondly, we obtain a global rigidity theorem for Willmore surfaces in the sphere. Thirdly, we give a lower bound on the lifespan of the surface diffusion flow in Fn+p(c). Finally, we get the longtime existence and convergence of the surface diffusion flow in Fn+p(c) (c >= 0) under the small initial Willmore energy condition.

Abstract:In this survey, we will focus on the mean curvature flow theory with sphere theorems, and discuss the recent developments on the convergence theorems for the mean curvature flow of arbitrary codimension inspired by the Yau rigidity theory of submanifolds. Several new differentiable sphere theorems for submanifolds are obtained as consequences of the convergence theorems for the mean curvature flow. It should be emphasized that Theorem 4.1 is an optimal convergence theorem for the mean curvature flow of arbitrary codimension, which implies the first optimal differentiable sphere theorem for submanifolds with positive Ricci curvature. Finally, we present a list of unsolved problems in this area.

Abstract: In this paper, we prove that if the initial submanifold $M_0$ of dimension $n(\ge6)$ satisfies an optimal pinching condition, then the mean curvature flow of arbitrary codimension in hyperbolic spaces converges to a round point in finite time. In particular, we obtain the optimal differentiable sphere theorem for submanifolds in hyperbolic spaces. It should be emphasized that our pinching condition implies that the Ricci curvature of the initial submanifold is positive, but does not imply positivity of the sectional curvature of $M_0$.

Abstract:Some new differentiable sphere theorems are obtained via the Ricci flow and stable currents. We prove that if $M^n$ is a compact manifold whose normalized scalar curvature and sectional curvature satisfy the pointwise pinching condition $R_0>\sigma_{n}K_{\max}$, where $\sigma_n\in (\frac{1}{4},1)$ is an explicit positive constant, then $M$ is diffeomorphic to a spherical space form. This gives a partial answer to Yau's conjecture on pinching theorem. Moreover, we prove that if $M^n(n\geq3)$ is a compact manifold whose $(n-2)$-th Ricci curvature and normalized scalar curvature satisfy the pointwise condition $Ric^{(n-2)}_{\min}>\tau_n(n-2)R_0,$ where $\tau_n\in (\frac{1}{4},1)$ is an explicit positive constant, then $M$ is diffeomorphic to a spherical space form. We then extend the sphere theorems above to submanifolds in a Riemannian manifold. Finally we give a classification of submanifolds with weakly pinched curvatures, which improves the differentiable pinching theorems due to Andrews, Baker and the authors.

Abstract:We investigate the differentiable pinching problem for compact immersed submanifolds of positive k-th Ricci curvature, and prove that if M n is simply connected and the k-th Ricci curvature of M n is bounded below by a quantity involving the mean curvature of M n and the curvature of the ambient manifold, then M n is diffeomorphic to the standard sphere ${\mathbb{S}^n}$. For the case where the ambient manifold is a space form with nonnegative constant curvature, we prove a differentiable sphere theorem without the assumption that the submanifold M n is simply connected. Motivated by a geometric rigidity theorem due to S. T. Yau and U. Simon, we prove a topological rigidity theorem for submanifolds in a space form.

Abstract:Consider a family of smooth immersions F(; t) : Mn ! Rn+k of submanifolds in Rn+k moving by mean curvature ow @F @t = ~H, where ~H is the mean curvature vector for the evolving submanifold. We prove that for any n 2 and k 1, the ow starting from a closed submanifold with small L2-norm of the traceless second fundamental form contracts to a round point in nite time, and the corresponding normalized ow converges exponentially in the C1-topology, to an n-sphere in some subspace Rn+1 of Rn+k.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate rigidity of geometric and differentiable structures of complete submanifolds via an extrinsic geometrical quantity tau(x) defined by the second fundamental form. We verify a geometric rigidity theorem for complete submanifolds with parallel mean curvature in a unit sphere Sn+P. Inspired by the rigidity theorem, we prove a differentiable sphere theorem for complete submanifolds in Sn+p. Abstract:We prove a vanishing theorem for the fundamental group of a compact submanifold in a space form, and then present a refined version of Ejiri's rigidity theorem for minimal submanifolds in a sphere. Inspired by the refined Ejiri theorem, we verify a new differentiable sphere theorem for compact submanifolds in space forms. We also show that our differentiable sphere theorem is sharp. We emphasize that our method of Ricci flow in the proof of the sphere theorem seems useful in the study of curvature and topology. Also, we obtain a differentiable pinching theorem for compact submanifolds in a Riemannian manifold.

Abstract:We investigate topological and differentiable structures of submanifolds under extrinsic restrictions. We first obtain a topological sphere theorem for compact submanifolds in a Riemannian manifold. Secondly, we prove an optimal differentiable sphere theorem for 4-dimensional complete submanifolds in a space form, which provides a partial solution of the smooth Poincare conjecture.
