Abstract:Using 2-(2,4-difluorophenyl)-4-(trifluoromethyl) pyrimidine as main ligand and tetraphenylimidodiphosphinate as ancillary ligand, one iridium complex was synthesized. This complex shows a green emission peaking at 543 nm with a quantum efficiency yield as 48% in deareated CH2Cl2 solution. It also has good thermal stability with a decomposition temperature of 351 degrees C. Using this material as emitter, the organic light-emitting diode shows good performances with a maximum luminance 42 898 cd/m(2), a maximum current efficiency up to 54.29 cd/A with low efficiency roll-off. At the luminance of 5000 and 10 000 cd/m(2), the current efficiencies are still kept at 46.70 and 40.63 cd/A, respectively. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
Syntheses, Crystal Structures, and Photoluminescence of a Series of Iridium(III) Complexes Containing the Pentafluorosulfanyl Group

Abstract:Eight neutral iridium(III) complexes (Ir1–Ir8) containing an electron-withdrawing pentafluorosulfanyl (−SF5) group on cyclometalated ligands with different ancillary ligands were synthesized and investigated. 2-(3/4-(Pentafluorosulfanyl)phenyl)pyrimidine (for Ir1 and Ir2), 1-(3/4-(pentafluorosulfanyl)phenyl)isoquinoline (for Ir3 and Ir4), and 2-(3/4-(pentafluorosulfanyl)phenyl)pyridine (for Ir5–Ir8) were chosen as cyclometalated ligands and 2,2,6,6-tetramethylheptane-3,5-dione (for Ir1–Ir4), tetraphenylimidodiphosphinate (for Ir5 and Ir6), and bis(diphenylphorothioyl)amide (for Ir7 and Ir8) were used as ancillary ligands. The crystal structures of Ir1, Ir3, Ir4, Ir6, and Ir8 also confirmed the identities of these complexes. Complexes Ir1, Ir2, and Ir5–Ir8 exhibit sky blue to green emissions (480–533 nm) with high photoluminescence quantum efficiency yields up to 94.7% in CH2Cl2 solution at room temperature. Complexes Ir3 and Ir4 are red phosphors (λmax = 607 nm, Φ = 76.8% for Ir3 and λmax = 627 nm, Φ = 49.2% for Ir4, respectively). Theoretical calculations were carried out to provide a further study of the orbital distributions and electronic states of eight Ir(III) complexes. Additionally, ion detection studies reveal that Ir2 has the potential for detecting Hg2+ ion.
Zwitterionic Iridium Complexes: Synthesis, Luminescent Properties, and Their Application in Cell Imaging.

Abstract:A series of phosphorescent zwitterionic iridium(III) complexes, with 4-carboxy-2, 2'-bipyridine-4'-carboxylate (Hdcbpy) as ancillary ligand, Ir(C(wedge)N)(2)(Hdcbpy) (C(wedge)N = 1-phenylpyrazole (ppz), 1-phenyl-pyridine (ppy), 2-(4',6'-difluoro-phenyl)pyridine (dfppy), 1-phenyl-isoquinoline (piq), dibenzo[f,h]quinoxaline (dbq)), were prepared and characterized. Their photophysical properties were studied, and intense luminescence emissions were observed based on metal-to-ligand-charge-transfer ((3)MLCT), ligand-to-ligand charge-transfer ((3)LLCT), ligand-centered transitions ((3)LC, i.e., (3)pi --> pi*), or intraligand-charge-transfer ((3)ILCT) excited states, which were confirmed by theoretical calculations. The quantum yield of Ir(dfppy)(2)(Hdcbpy) is as high as 0.106 in aqueous solution. With Hdcbpy as a hydrophilic part, their amphiphilic structures as further confirmed by X-ray single crystal data endow them with different solubilities in phosphate buffer solution (PBS, pH 7.0). The compounds were successfully applied as luminescent dyes for cell imaging in aqueous solution. Their different stain ability in cell imaging was fairly well supported by the experimental data based on the measurement of oil/water partition coefficients and encapsulation/release with liposomes.

Abstract:The synthesis and photophysical, electrochemical, and electrophosphorescent properties of a series of cyclometalated iridium(III) complexes based on quinoline derivatives (C boolean AND N) and different beta-diketonate ligands are reported. The iridium complexes contain two quinoline derivatives (C boolean AND N) and a single monoanionic beta-diketone (LX), i.e., Ir(C boolean AND N)(2)(LX), where LX denotes acetylacetonate (acac) or 1-phenyl-3- methyl-4-isobutyryl-5-pyrazolonate (PMIP). Most of the iridium complexes in solution show phosphorescent emission with high quantum efficiencies (0.05-0.25) and microsecond lifetimes (0.5-1.67 mu s). The intense phosphorescent emission of these complexes is the result of significant spin-orbit coupling of the iridium center. By modification of the chemical structures of quinoline derivative ligands, the emissive wavelengths of complexes can be tuned from 596 to 634 nm. Interestingly, the photoluminescence quantum efficiency can be improved by the replacement of acac with PMIP. Energy transfer from the hosts poly(9,9-dioctylfluorene) (PFO) and 2-(4-biphenylyl)-5-(4-tert-butylphenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole (PBD) to the guest iridium complex was investigated. Moreover, three iridium complexes were used as dopants to fabricate electrophosphorescent polymer-based light-emitting diodes (PLEDs). The PLEDs show red emission with high external quantum efficiencies, ranging from 7.0 to 9.6%.

Abstract:A new class of monoanionic N<^>N ligand, pyridyl/isoquinolyl-imine-isoindoline (L1 and L2), have been selected as ancillary ligands to form two novel neutral cyclometalated heteroleptic iridium complexes (Ir(III)(dfppy)(2)(L-N<^>N)), in which dfppy is the cyclometalated ligand 2-(2',4'-difluorophenyl) pyridine. Both complexes exhibit broad emission spectra at red-visible region. By fusion with benzene ring of the ancillary ligand, further bathochromic shift of the emission band to the deeper red region (centred at 665 nm in solid phase) can be achieved. An analysis of the structure-property relationship has been carried out based on single crystal X-ray crystallographic structures, optical spectroscopy and DFT theoretical calculations. [GRAPHICS] .

Abstract:Six iridium complexes with 2-(2-trifluoromethyl)pyrimidine-pyridine as the main ligand and 245phenyl-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl)-phenol or 2-(5-phenyl-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl)-phenol derivatives as ancillary ligands were synthesized. The crystal structures of the complexes adopted pseudo-octahedral coordination geometry with the conventional trans-N, cis-C arrangement of main ligand and the ancillary ligand was connected to iridium center by an N atom from 1,3,4-oxadiazole or 1,3,4-thiadiazole group and an 0 atom from phenol moiety. Electrochemical study confirmed the ancillary ligand variations have effects on the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) energy levels. The density functional theory (DFT) calculations suggested that the frontier orbitals and the electronic properties of the complexes can be manipulated by introducing different ancillary ligands. The compositions of LUMO on the 1,3,4-thiadiazole ancillary ligands are higher than that of 1,3,4-oxadiazole derivatives, and the HOMO - LUMO gaps are also decreased. Therefore, the emissions of the complexes with 1,3,4-thiadiazole ancillary ligands are shift from green to red. The organic light-emitting diodes with Ir3 and Ir6 as emitters show maximum current efficiencies of 41.08 and 50.92 cd/A, respectively, with mild efficiency roll-off. This work provides a way to tune the emission and device efficiency of Irill complexes by introducing of 1,3,4-thiadiazole group in ancillary ligand. (C) 2015 Elsevier BY. All rights reserved.

Abstract:We reported the synthesis and characterization of three novel tris-cyclometalated iridium(III) complexes with pyridazine and phthalazine derivatives as ligands bearing C^NN structure, namely, Ir(PYA)3, Ir(PHB)3, and Ir(PHC)3. Reactions of the ligands with IrCl3·3H2O directly afforded tris-cyclometalated iridium(III) complexes in 31–39% yields. X-ray analysis revealed that the complexes exhibited the facial configuration, and the Ir–C bond lengths of the complexes are 2.009(3), 2.013(3), 2.019(3)Å for Ir(PYA)3, and 1.993(4), 2.002(4), 2.004(4)Å for Ir(PHB)3, respectively. The iridium complexes-based OLEDs fabricated by spin-coating technique exhibited promising performance. At 4wt% doping level and a practical luminance of 100cdm−2, the external quantum efficiencies of the devices using Ir(PYA)3, Ir(PHB)3 and Ir(PHC)3 as dopants reached 9.0, 6.9 and 9.3% photons/electron, respectively.

Abstract:A series of cyclometalated iridium(III) complexes with 2-phenylquinoline ligand (1-4) were designed and synthesized, which were thoroughly investigated by the photophysics, electrochemistry, theoretical calculations and electrochemiluminescence (ECL). By incorporating methyl groups into the 2-phenylquinoline, the corresponding complexes 2 and 3 displayed lower oxidative potential and higher HOMO energy levels. Most importantly, compared with tris(2,2'-bipyridyl)ruthenium(II) ([Ru(bipy)(3)](2+)), these iridium(III) complexes demonstrated more intense ECL in acetonitrile solutions.

Abstract:Two near-infrared (NIR)-emitting iridium(III) complexes of (Me-BIPz)(2)Ir(acac) and (tBu-BIPz)(2)Ir(acac), (i.e. Ir-1 and Ir-2 ) are designed and synthesized, which contain methyl and t-butyl substituted 14-phenyl-14H-benzo[a]indolo[3,2-c]phenazine (BIPz), respectively with a rigid D-A-type coordinated core. The influence of the rigid D-A skeleton and the attached groups on photoelectronic properties of iridium complexes is primarily investigated. An advanced external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 2.65% with a radiant emittance of 13057 mW Sr-1 m -2 at 746 nm is obtained in the Ir-2-doped polymer light-emitting devices. This EQE value is 1.5 times higher than that in the Ir-1-doped devices. Furthermore, this type of iridium complexes exhibits better NIR-emitting properties than most of the reported iridium complexes containing the C<^>N ligand with two coordinated aryl rings. The results indicate that the rigid coordinated core of C<^>N ligand is an effective strategy to construct high-efficiency NIR-emitting iridium complexes. (C) 2020 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
Blue-green Emitting Cationic Iridium Complexes with 1,3,4-Oxadiazole Cyclometallating Ligands: Synthesis, Photophysical and Electrochemical Properties, Theoretical Investigation and Electroluminescent Devices

Abstract:Two cationic iridium complexes, namely [Ir(dph-oxd)2(bpy)]PF6 (1) and [Ir(dph-oxd)2(pzpy)]PF6 (2), using 2,5-diphenyl-1,3,4-oxadiazole (dph-oxd) as the cyclometallating ligand and 2,2'-bipyridine (bpy) or 2-(1H-pyrazol-1-yl)pyridine (pzpy) as the ancillary ligands, have been synthesized, and their photophysical and electrochemical properties have been comprehensively investigated. In solution, both complexes emit efficient blue-green light. For complex 1, the light emission in a neat film is remarkably red-shifted; in solid state, it gives an intriguing piezochromic phenomenon. Compared with archetype [Ir(ppy)2(bpy)]PF6 (ppy is 2-phenylpyridine), complex 1 shows a largely stabilized HOMO (highest occupied molecular orbital) level, induced by the electron-deficient 1,3,4-oxadiazole (oxd) heterocycle of dph-oxd, which results in an enlarged energy gap and blue-shifted emission. Compared with complex 1, complex 2 shows an enhanced LUMO (lowest unoccupied molecular orbital) level, caused by the electron-rich pzpy ancillary ligand, but they exhibit similar emission energy in solution. For both complexes, theoretical calculations reveal that their blue-green emission in solution arises primarily from the (3)π-π* states centered on dph-oxd; moreover, complex 1 bears close-lying (3)π-π* and (3)CT (charge-transfer) states, underlying its remarkably red-shifted emission in the neat film and unique piezochromic behavior in the solid state. Solid state light emitting electrochemical cells (LECs) based on complexes 1 and 2 give efficient yellow and green-blue light, with peak current efficiencies of 18.3 and 5.2 cd A(-1), respectively. It is demonstrated that oxd-type cyclometallating ligands are promising as an avenue to stabilize the HOMOs and tune emission properties of cationic iridium complexes to a large extent.

Abstract:Seven iridium complexes with the general structure of (tfmppy)(2)Ir(L-1-L-7) (tfmppy = 4-trifluoromethyl phenylpyridine) were synthesized, where ancillary ligands L1-L7 are fluorine-or trifluoromethyl-substituted (-F or -CF3) N-(diphenylphosphoryl)benzamide derivatives. Single crystal X-ray diffraction study was undertaken on all complexes, which showed that each adopted the distorted octahedral coordination geometry with the conventional trans-N, cis-C arrangement in the coordination sphere. Electrochemical study confirmed the electron-withdrawing -F and -CF3 substituents on the ancillary ligands have effects on the Ir-III/IV redox couples and HOMO/LUMO energy levels. Density functional theory (DFT) calculation results showed that the HOMOs are composed of Ir 5d orbital (about 55%) and pi orbitals of the phenyl rings (about 38%) in tfmppy ligands, whilst the LUMOs are mostly localized on both the phenyl and pyridine rings of tfmppy (about 90%). All the complexes own the similar emission peaks around 520 nm with short phosphorescent decay time about 2 mu s at ambient temperature and relatively high internal quantum efficiencies from 37.5 to 61.2%. This work showed that the iridium complexes with N-(diphenylphosphoryl)benzamide derivatives as the ancillary ligands possess the potential as phosphorence dopants in the organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). Synthesis and characterization of phosphorescent cyclometalated iridium complexes

Abstract:The preparation, photophysics, and solid state structures of octahedral organometallic Ir complexes with several different cyclometalated ligands are reported. IrCl3.nH2O cleanly cyclometalates a number of different compounds (i.e., 2-phenylpyridine, 2-(p-tolyl)pyridine, benzoquinoline, 2-phenylbenzothiazole, 2-(1-naphthyl)benzothiazole, and 2-phenylquinoline), forming the corresponding chloride-bridged dimers, CwedgeN2Ir(mu-Cl)2IrCwedgeN2 (CwedgeNis a cyclometalated ligand) in good yield. These chloride-bridged dimers react with acetyl acetone (acacH) and other bidentate, monoanionic ligands such as picolinic acid (picH) and N-methylsalicylimine (salH), to give monomeric CwedgeN2Ir(LX) complexes (LX = acac, pic, sal). The emission spectra of these complexes are largely governed by the nature of the cyclometalating ligand, leading to lambda(max) values from 510 to 606 nm for the complexes reported here. The strong spin-orbit coupling of iridium mixes the formally forbidden 3MLCT and 3pi-pi* transitions with the allowed 1MLCT, leading to a strong phosphorescence with good quantum efficiencies (0.1-0.4) and room temperature lifetimes in the microsecond regime. The emission spectra of the CwedgeN2Ir(LX) complexes are surprisingly similar to the fac-IrCwedgeN3 complex of the same ligand, even though the structures of the two complexes are markedly different. The crystal structures of two of the CwedgeN2Ir(acac) complexes (i.e., CwedgeN = ppy and tpy) have been determined. Both complexes show cis-C,C', trans-N,N' disposition of the two cyclometalated ligands, similar to the structures reported for other complexes with a "CwedgeN2Ir" fragment. NMR data (1H and 13C) support a similar structure for all of the CwedgeN2Ir(LX) complexes. Close intermolecular contacts in both (ppy)2Ir(acac) and (tpy)2Ir(acac) lead to significantly red shifted emission spectra for crystalline samples of the ppy and tpy complexes relative to their solution spectra.
Iridium(III) complexes with 1-phenylisoquinoline-4-carbonitrile units for efficient NIR organic light-emitting diodes

Abstract:Achieving the high external quantum efficiency (EQE) of near-infrared (NIR) emission in iridium(III) complexes still remains a challenge owing to their unsteady excited states which easily decay to the ground states through the nonradiative pathways. Herein, three Ir(III) phosphors in which the cyclometalated ligand 1-phenylisoquinoline-4-carbonitrile (piq-CN) is functionalized with the cyano, <i>tert-</i>butyl, and dimethyl groups are developed (CN-CNIr, Bu-CNIr, and DM-CNIr, respectively). Three simple synthetic steps can afford this class of deep red to NIR Ir(III) emitters. The organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) based on Bu-CNIr and DM-CNIr attain the maximum EQEs of 7.1% and 7.2% with the emission peaks at 695 and 714 nm, respectively. This strategy using substituted piq-CN derivatives as the cyclometalated ligands can offer an effective approach to promote the radiative rate of NIR-emitting Ir(III) materials. An insight into how the electron-withdrawing and electron-donating substituents on ligands influence the optoelectronic properties of their Ir(III) complexes is also provided.

Abstract:Herein four novel iridium(III) complexes (tfpmd) 2 Ir(dpppy) ( Ir1a , tfpmd = 2-(4-(trifluoromethyl) phenyl) pyrimidine, dpppy = P ,P-diphenyl-N-(pyridin-2-yl)phosphinic amide), (tfpmd) 2 Ir(dppq) ( Ir1b , dppq = P ,P-diphenyl-N-(quinolin-2-yl)phosphinic amide), (tfpqz) 2 Ir(dpppy) ( Ir2a , tfpzq = 4-(4-(trifluoromethyl) phenyl) quinazoline) and (tfpqz) 2 Ir(dppq) ( Ir2b ) were synthetized, and their structures, opto-physical, and electro-chemical properties were investigated in detail. The crystal structure shows that these complexes exhibit pseudo-octahedral geometry around iridium atom coordinated by C, N atoms from cyclometalated and ancillary ligands. Interestingly, two coordinated nitrogen atoms from the ancillary ligand form an unusual quaternary ring with the central iridium ion. Ir1a and Ir1b emit pure-green light with Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage (CIE) color coordinates of (0.25, 0.67) and (0.22, 0.67), respectively, in CH 2 Cl 2 solution. With the increase of the degree of conjugation of the cyclometalated ligand from tfpmd to tfpqz, the luminescence of complexes Ir2a and Ir2b is greatly red-shifted, and pure-red emission with CIE coordinates of (0.66, 0.34) and (0.66, 0.34), respectively, is obtained. The photophysical behaviors were reasonably explained by quantum chemical calculations. The calculation results shows that their emission is ascribed to the mixed 3 MLCT (metal-ligand charge transfer, dπ(Ir)→π*(cyclometalated ligand)) and 3 LLCT (ligand-ligand charge transfer, π(ancillary ligand)→π*(cyclometalated ligand)) states. Homoleptic Facial Ir(Iii) Complexes Via Facile Synthesis for High-Efficiency and Low-Roll-Off Near-Infrared Organic Light-Emitting Diodes over 750 Nm

Abstract:Despite the great potential for applications spanning, from military night-vision displays and information-secured devices to civilian medical diagnostics and phototherapy, the development of highly efficient, stable, and low-cost near-infrared (NIR) emitting lumophores is still a formidable challenge. Herein, we report two novel NIR-emitting homoleptic facial Ir(III) complexes based on extended pi-conjugated benzo[g]phthalazine ligands, namely, tris[1,4-di(thiophen-2-yl)benzo(g]phthalazine] (Ir(dtbpa)(3), 1) and tris[1-(2,4-bis(trifluoromethyl)pheny1)-4-(thiophen-2-y1)-benzo[g]phthalazine] iridium(III) (Ir(Ftbpa)(3), 2). Actually, these two ligarids not only enable simple one-pot synthesis of homoleptic Ir(III) complexes without any catalyst under mild conditions, but also contribute to intense NIR-emission with high photoluminescence quantum yield up to 5.2% at 824 nm for 1 and 17.3% at 765 nm for 2 respectively. Single-crystal structure of 1 demonstrates desired facial form with short Ir-N and Ir-C bonds because of strong coordination and small steric hindrance of those highly conjugated C<^>N=N ligands. Importantly, the incorporation Of CF3 groups in 2 further leads to high thermal stability and a good ability to sublime, thus resulting in ultrapurity for highly efficient NIR-organic light-emitting diodes (NIR-OLEDs) with a high maximum external quantum efficiency of 4.5% at 760 run and small efficiency roll-off remaining of 3.5% at 100 mA. cm(-2), values which rank with those of the most efficient NIR-OLEDs with small roll-off and peak emission over 750 nm. Notably, the content percentages of the noble metal in these two complexes, (similar to 10% Ir) are markedly lower by about two-thirds than that of typical green-emitting tris(2-phenylpyridine)iridium (similar to 30% Ir). The findings may provide a new strategy to develop robust NIR emitters and achieve high efficiency, small roll-off, and low cost simultaneously in NIR-OLEDs for practical applications.

Abstract:Four new iridium(III) cyclometalated complexes (Ir1-Ir4) with 4-trifluoromethylphenylpyridine as the main ligand and 2-(5-phenyl-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl)-phenol and its fluoro/trifluoromethyl substituted derivatives as ancillary ligands have been developed. All complexes are green phosphors (lambda(max) = 519-537 nm) with photoluminescence quantum efficiency yields of 10-53% in CH2Cl2 solutions at room temperature, respectively. The organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) with the structure of ITO/TAPC (1,1-bis[4-(di-p-tolylamino)phenyl] cyclohexane, 60 nm)/Ir complexes (8 wt%): SimCP2 (bis[3,5-di(9H-carbazol-9-yl) phenyl] diphenylsilane, 30 nm)/TPBi (1,3,5-tri(1-phenyl-1H-benzo[d]imidazol-2-yl) phenyl, 90 nm)/LiF (1 nm)/Al (100 nm) show good performances. In particular, device G4 based on complex Ir4 (2-(5-pentafluorophenyl-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl)-phenol as ancillary ligand) showed superior performances with a peak current efficiency (eta(c)) of 70.48 cd A(-1) and a peak external quantum efficiency (eta(ext), EQE) of 19.7%. This study demonstrates that the ancillary ligand attached with the 1,3,4-oxadiazole group could facilitate charge trapping across the bulk of the device for efficient OLEDs.

Abstract:Phosphorescent cationic iridium complexes with phenyl-imidazole type cyclometalating ligands have been synthesized for the first time and their photophysical, electrochemical properties have been comprehensively investigated. By changing the ancillary ligands, the complexes give orange-red or green-blue light. Compared to 2-phenylpyridine (ppy), the phenyl-imidazole ligands destabilize simultaneously the highest occupied molecular orbitals and the lowest unoccupied molecular orbitals of the complexes. Their emitting triplet states show dominant charge-transfer (iridium/cyclometalating ligands→ancillary ligands) character. The complexes have been used to fabricate solid-state light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs). The orange-red LEC gives a high peak current efficiency of 14.3 cd A−1, which is among the highest reported for orange-red LECs; the green-blue LEC gives a peak current efficiency of 6.3 cd A−1. It is shown that the phenyl-imidazole cyclometalating ligands hold promise for the invention of iridium-based cationic phosphorescent dyes with tunable energy levels and emission properties.

Abstract:A series of cyclometalated iridium(III) complexes has been designed and synthesized, and their photophysical, photochromic, and electrochemical properties have been studied. The X-ray crystal structure of complex 2 has been determined. The emission properties of the complexes have been shown to be readily perturbed through the modification of the electronic properties of the phenylpyridine ligand. With different substituents at the phenylpyridine ligand of iridium(III) complexes of 1 (-H), 2 (-OMe), 3 (-CHO), and 4 (-CF3), they can display intense (MLCT)-M-3 [d pi(Ir) -> pi*(diimine)] luminescence from 530 to 640 nm to span across the green to orange region. The spectral assignment is also in agreement with the electrochemical studies and DFT calculations. In addition, the photochromic behavior can be easily modulated by varying the substituents on the C boolean AND N ligand without the need for tedious modification of the spirooxazine framework. By analyzing the kinetic profiles of backward bleaching reactions, less electron-rich iridium(III) complexes can stabilize the merocyanine form with a higher activation barrier. The studies have provided not only fundamental understanding on structure-property relationships that govern the versatile luminescence behavior of these Ir(III) complexes but also the guiding principles in the molecular design for the future developments of visible light-driven photoswitches.

Abstract:A series of tris-heteroleptic phosphorescent cyclometalated Ir(III) complexes with two different cyclometalating ligands and one ancillary ligand was synthesized. Through manipulation of the electronic features of individual cyclometalating ligands, not only the emission color and electrochemical properties of these Ir(III) complexes can be tuned, but also unique charge carrier injection and transport traits can be conferred to them. Owing to the enhanced electron injection/transport and ambipolar characters associated with these tris-heteroleptic structures, these Ir(III) emitters showed very impressive electroluminescent performance with a maximum external quantum efficiency of 20.20 %, luminance efficiency of 69.41 cd A(-1) and power efficiency of 35.15 Lm W(-1) . These results provide a new outlet to design and synthesize highly efficient electrophosphors for phosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes.
