Abstract:This is the first attempt to systematically investigate the effect of total factor productivity in Chinau0027s processing trade.Found in this article,processing trade,import and export of processing trade,they all does not promote the total factor productivity;we also found,the processing trade,imports and exports of processing trade will significantly inhibit technological changes,but changes in efficiency changes in technical efficiency and scale mixing efficiency changes had no significant effect.This article also found no effect of processing trade by foreign-invested enterprises,producer services,as well as fiscal decentralization significantly promotes productivity exist.While Jiangsu and Guangdong provinces in more than 60% of the total national proportion of processing trade,processing trade by inhibiting its technological change significantly inhibited the total factor productivity.The conclusions of this study do not vary with sample selection,model specification,variable selection as well as the endogeneity analysis and change.These findings imply that engaged in processing trade on a large scale can solve the employment promote growth on the surface of the processing trade,but may not be able to achieve economic catch-up,and even undermine the efficiency.Therefore,what participation in the global economy,and how to maximize the benefits of globalization,will be a huge challenge facing the future of the Chinese economy.
