Abstract:A Schiff base hollow covalent organic framework (COF) was used for anchoring Pd(II) to synthesize the Pd@COF-TB nanocatalyst. Then, the as-synthesized Pd@COF-TB catalyst has been meticulously characterized using several methods. Thereafter, the catalytic performance of the Pd@COF-TB species regarding Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reactions was examined, and the corresponding products were obtained with good to excellent yields. Besides, the Pd@COF-TB catalyst could be recovered conveniently and reused at least eight times without obvious decrease in activity and selectivity. More importantly, the leaching of Pd during the reaction process could be negligible, which is crucially important when preparing bioactive species.

Abstract:Heterogeneous Pd single-atom catalysts (Pd SACs) have demonstrated high efficiency in C-C coupling reactions, which are considered the cornerstones of organic synthesis. However, the development of 2D materials for the evaluation of the catalytic efficiency of mixed-valence Pd SACs remains a significant challenge. In this study, we prepared various mixed-valence Pd SACs via photodeposition. The electronic structure and dispersion state of the surface Pd species were confirmed. The important role of graphene oxide in the design of atomically dispersed Pd species was further confirmed through comparative experiments with Pd/TiO2. The mixed-valence Pd SACs exhibited excellent catalytic activity for the typical palladium-catalyzed Suzuki and Sonogashira C-C coupling. Theoretical calculations and EXAFS spectra were used to determine the mechanism for tailoring the Pd0/Pd2+ atomic ratios. These studies initiate a broad portfolio of mixed-valence metal-based single-atom catalysts (SACs).

Abstract:Conjugated nanoporous polymer colloids (CNPCs) consisting of covalently cross-linked poly(p-phenyleneethynylene) networks were synthesized by using the Sonogashira coupling reaction in a toluene-in-water miniemulsion. The synthesized CNPCs having a uniform particle size distribution exhibit high porosity with a specific surface area of 421 m2/g and a dual distribution of pore size in the micropore and mesopore ranges. They are amenable to postfunctionalization and enhancement of their dispersibility in solvents, and retain their native photoluminescence. The modified CNPCs allow for in situ incorporation of palladium nanocrystals to form the Pd@CNPC composite materials. The Pd@CNPCs are validated to have excellent catalytic activity, outstanding reusability, and exceptionally high TOF (44100 h–1) for the Suzuki–Miyaura coupling reaction.

Abstract:We report a facile methodology for one-step synthesis of the porous palladium nanospheres (Pd-NSS) using polyallylamine hydrochloride (PAH) as the complex-forming agent and stabilizing agent under mild reaction conditions (35 degrees C). The size, integrity, nature and composition of the Pd-NSS are investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), nitrogen adsorption-adsorption experiments, energy-dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), zeta potential, ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), etc. These spectral studies confirm that the PAH functionalized Pd-NSS are three-dimensionally interconnected porous nanostructures with primary nanoparticles as building blocks. Further experiential investigations show that the particle size of the Pd-NSS can be readily controlled by altering the ratio of PdCl2 to PAH during synthesis, and the Pd-NSS possess high catalytic activity and good stability for the Mizoroki-Heck reaction.

Abstract:Palladium-catalysed cross-coupling reactions, central tools in fine-chemical synthesis, predominantly employ soluble metal complexes despite recognized challenges with product purification and catalyst reusability1–3. Attempts to tether these homogeneous catalysts on insoluble carriers have been thwarted by suboptimal stability, which leads to a progressively worsening performance due to metal leaching or clustering4. The alternative application of supported Pd nanoparticles has faced limitations because of insufficient activity under the mild conditions required to avoid thermal degradation of the substrates or products. Single-atom heterogeneous catalysts lie at the frontier5–18. Here, we show that the Pd atoms anchored on exfoliated graphitic carbon nitride (Pd-ECN) capture the advantages of both worlds, as they comprise a solid catalyst that matches the high chemoselectivity and broad functional group tolerance of state-of-the-art homogeneous catalysts for Suzuki couplings, and also demonstrate a robust stability in flow. The adaptive coordination environment within the macroheterocycles of ECN facilitates each catalytic step. The findings illustrate the exciting opportunities presented by nanostructuring single atoms in solid hosts for catalytic processes that remain difficult to heterogenize.

Abstract:Fe3O4 and Pd nanoparticles were assembled on sulfonated graphene (s-G) by an easy chemical approach and characterized by transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The resulting material could be dispersed homogeneously in water or water/ethanol and further used as an excellent semi-heterogeneous catalyst for the Suzuki–Miyaura cross-coupling reaction in an environmentally friendly solvent under ligand-free ambient conditions. The high heterogeneous catalytic activity appears to be due to the small size of Pd nanoparticles and homogeneous distribution of the nanoparticles on the Fe3O4/s-G matrix. In addition, the catalytic activity did not deteriorate even after repeated applications, which may be due to the easy and efficient magnetic separation of the catalyst and the high dispersion and stability of the catalyst in an aqueous solution.

Abstract:Protection of metal nanoparticles from agglomeration is critical for their functions and applications. The conventional method for enhancing their stability is to cover them with passivation layers to prevent direct contact. However, the presence of a protective shell blocks exposure of the metal species to reactants, thereby significantly impeding the nanoparticles' utility as catalysts. Here, we report that metal nanoparticles can be prepared and used in a surface-exposed state that renders them inherently catalytically active. This strategy is realised by spatial confinement and electronic stabilisation with a dual-module mesoporous and microporous three-dimensional π-network in which surface-exposed nanoparticles are crystallised upon in situ reduction. The uncovered palladium nanoparticles serve as heterogeneous catalysts that are exceptionally active in water, catalyse unreactive aryl chlorides for straightforward carbon-carbon bond formation and are stable for repeated use in various types of cross couplings. Therefore, our results open new perspectives in developing practical heterogeneous catalysts.

Abstract:Palladium (Pd)-based catalysts are essential to drive high-performance Suzuki coupling reactions,which are powerful tools for the synthesis of functional organic compounds.Herein,we developed a solution-rapid-annealing process to stabilize nitrogen-mesoporous carbon supported Pd sin-gle-atom/cluster (Pd/NMC) material,which provided a catalyst with superior performance for Suzuki coupling reactions.In comparison with commercial palladium/carbon (Pd/C) catalysts,the Pd/NMC catalyst exhibited significantly boosted activity (100％ selectivity and 95％ yield) and ex-cellent stability (almost no decay in activity after 10 reuse cycles) for the Suzuki coupling reactions of chlorobenzenes,together with superior yield and excellent selectivity in the fields of the board scope of the reactants.Moreover,our newly developed rapid annealing process of precursor solu-tions is applied as a generalized method to stabilize metal clusters (e.g.Pd,Pt,Ru),opening new possibilities in the construction of efficient highly dispersed metal atom and sub-nanometer cluster catalysts with high performance.

Abstract:In recent years, people pay more attention to environmental pollution and the treatment of sewage has become the focus of recent research. Palladium nanoparticles have good catalytic properties but are easy to agglomerate. Therefore, we used the electrospinning technology to prepare a uniform composite nanofiber film based on polyacrylic acid (PAA) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), which demonstrated that they are good carriers of palladium nanoparticles to make the nanoparticles well dispersed. Furthermore, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were added to increase the specific surface area of the composite nanofiber film and improve its mechanical properties. The successfully synthesized PAA/PVA/CNT-COOH@palladium nanoparticle (PdNP) composite fiber films were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and thermogravimetry analysis. p-Nitrophenol and 2-nitroaniline were utilized as typical pollutants to further evaluate the catalytic performance of PAA/PVA/CNT-COOH@PdNP composite fiber films. The PAA/PVA/CNT-COOH@PdNP composite fiber films exhibited enhanced catalytic performance and could be reused for eight consecutive cycles. This work provided new clues for the preparation and application of composite electrospun film materials.

Abstract:An efficient and recyclable Pd nano-catalyst was developed via immobilization of Pd nanoparticles on polyimide linked covalent organic frameworks (PCOFs) that was facilely prepared through condensation of melamine and 3,3′,4,4′-biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride. The Pd nanoparticles (Pd NPs) catalyst was thoroughly characterized by FT-IR, XRD, SEM, TEM. Furthermore, the catalytic activity of Pd NPs catalyst was evaluated by Suzuki–Miyaura coupling reaction and nitroarene reduction in water, respectively. The excellent yields of corresponding products revealing revealed that the Pd NPs catalyst could be applied as an efficient and reusable heterogeneous catalyst for above two reactions.Graphical Abstract

Abstract:Supported palladium catalysts have garnered much interest in the modern chemical industry due to their high catalytic activity and excellent recyclability. Carbon nanofibers are outstanding supports for palladium species because of their large surface areas and chemically inert properties. Herein, with poly(vinylpyrrolidone) as the co-spinning agent, palladium cation embedded polyimide nanofibers were first prepared by electrospinning and thermal imidization. Then, these composite nanofibers were carbonized to prepare palladium embedded nitrogen doped carbon nanofibers. It was found that raising the carbonization temperature could reduce the fiber diameter and increase the size of micropores in the fiber. Meanwhile, the Pd2+ cations in the nanofibers were reduced to Pd0 nanoparticles and their sizes grew with the increase of carbonization temperature. The palladium nanoparticles were partially or totally embedded inside the carbon nanofibers. Suzuki reaction catalysis results show that these palladium embedded carbon nanofibers could effectively catalyze the Suzuki reactions of aromatic iodides and bromides with phenylboronic acid to afford the biaryl products with excellent yields. Moreover, this fibrous catalyst can be readily recovered by filtration and reused for 5 times with little loss of initial activity. The remarkable catalytic efficiency and stability of this novel palladium embedded carbon nanofibers could be attributed to the embedment of palladium nanoparticles and chelation of doped nitrogen atoms in the carbon fibers.

Abstract:Embedding Pd nanoparticles in carbon thin film-lined SBA-15 nanoreactors provides highly efficient catalysts for heterogeneous cross coupling reactions in aqueous media. No leaching or aggregation of Pd nanoparticles was found in these nanoreactors after reusing them several times. The carbon thin film lining of these nanoreactors was further confirmed with small molecular arene probing experiments.

Abstract:CoFe 2 O 4 @3D-Network polymers-K22.Pd was synthesized by grafting Kryptofix-22 moieties onto the surface of magnetic 3D-network polymers, followed by a reaction of the nanocomposite with Palladium (II) nitrate. The cavities of the Kryptofix-22 host material can effectively stabilize the Pd nanoparticles and prevent their aggregation and separation from the surface. Using advanced characterization techniques, such as FT-IR, BET, TGA, FE-SEM, TEM, XRD, EDX, and VSM, thorough understanding of the catalyst structure and morphology was facilitated and confirmed, its expected properties. The catalyst has been efficiently applied to Suzuki reactions and reduction of nitro compound derivatives. Its primary advantages include mild reaction conditions, high efficiency, and shorter reaction times than traditional methods. One of the greatest benefits of this catalyst is its reusability. It can be easily separated from the reaction mixture using a magnetic force and reused for up to five cycles without significant activity loss. This is important for sustainable chemistry, as it reduces waste and potentially lowers costs.

Abstract:Palladium (Pd) has been the key element for several C–C bond-forming reactions, especially the Nobel-acclaimed Suzuki, Heck, and Sonogashira cross-coupling reactions, among others. This review article describes recent efforts toward the synthetic strategies, characterization, and development of various nanostructured material supports for adorning Pd nanoparticles and their sustainable use in catalyzing at least one of the three aforementioned transformations. Recent advances are highlighted for assorted nanostructured materials-supported Pd nanocatalysts; designed nanostructures possessing engineered morphologies, magnetic Pd nanocomposites, polymers, metal–organic frameworks, and hybrid nanostructured catalysts are described for diverse Pd nanocatalysts. Selected examples expounding the concepts and rationale behind the reactivity enhancement and the reusability of the nanostructured Pd catalysts are presented via control of the structure, composition, and intrinsic nature of the introduced supports. Heterogeneous cross–coupling catalysis, a necessary tool in everyday chemical transformations, is illustrated, implicating eminent functions presented by the structural properties of the supports, associated pros and cons, their recyclability, and the efficiency.

Abstract:A one step polyol process has been used to synthesize linear assemblies of Pd nanoparticles (NPs). TEM images show that highly linearly ordered Pd NP chains (about 8.5nm in diameter) have been formed, and the inter-particle distance is about 1.4±0.6nm. The Pd NP chains can be obtained by adding NH3·H2O and prolonging the heating time. A scaffolding mechanism is proposed to understand the short-ranged order of the Pd NP chains. The as-obtained Pd nanochains at Pd NCh/MWCNTs/GCE displayed high activity in the electrocatalytic oxidation of NO.

Abstract:A novel catalyst with a yolk-shell structure was designed to overcome the leaching of noble metals in heterogeneous catalysis. Through a template method, palladium (Pd) nanoparticles were encapsulated by hollow spherical covalent organic frameworks (COFs) consisting of 2,4,6-trihydroxybenzene-1,3,5-tricar baldehyde (Tp) and p-phenylenediamine (Pa). The final catalyst with a yolk-shell structure was denoted as (Pd/C)@TpPa COFs. The unique morphology and chemical structure of this novel composite (Pd/C)@TpPa COFs were confirmed by a transmission electron microscope (TEM), a laser particle analyzer, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and N-2 adsorption and desorption. Subsequently, to demonstrate its catalytic performance brought by structural design, this novel catalyst was applied to catalyze the Suzuki reaction. Interestingly, this catalyst exhibited a brilliant size cutoff efficiency for aryl benzene amounting to 100% and achieved a high conversion with only 0.05 mol% Pd loading. Besides, this catalyst could be readily recovered via filtration and reused for at least five consecutive cycles without any significant loss in its activity. (C) 2021 Elsevier Inc.
