Abstract:Three organic dyes 2,6-bis(iminoalkyl)pyridines [2,6-(2,6-R2C6H2N=CMe)(2)]C5H3N (R = methyl, ethyl, isopropyl) (named DM, DE and DP, respectively) were synthesized and assembled onto nanocrystalline TiO2 film to prepare 2,6-bis(iminoalkyl)pyridine/N719 co-sensitized photoelectrodes for dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSCs) applications, and their photoelectrochemical performances were studied. In each of the three composite electrodes, the aggregation of N719 was alleviated and its spectra response was enhanced by the 2,6-bis(iminoalkyl) pyridines in region of 400 to 750 nm, and the total resistance of DSSCs was decreased after co-sensitizing with 2,6-bis(iminoalkyl) pyridine, all of which facilitate to improve efficiency of DSSCs. The optimized cell which was co-sensitized with DM gave a short circuit current density of 16.57 mA cm(-2), an open circuit voltage of 0.72 V and a fill factor of 0.59 corresponding to an overall conversion efficiency of 7.00% under standard global AM1.5 solar irradiation conditions, which is 28.91% higher than that for DSSCs only sensitized by N719 (5.43%). The incident photo-to-current conversion efficiency, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, surface photovoltage spectroscopy and UV-visible adsorption spectra were used to analyze their photoelectrochemical performances, and X-ray single-crystal structural analysis was used to analyze the structures of 2,6-bis(iminoalkyl)pyridines.

Abstract:Thieno[3,4-c]pyrrole-4,6-dione-based organic sensitizers with triphenylamine (FNE38 and FNE40) or julolidine (FNE39 and FNE41) as electron-donating unit have been designed and synthesized. A linear hexyl group or a branched alkyl chain, the 2-ethylhexyl group, is incorporated into molecular skeleton of the dyes to minimize intermolecular interactions. The absorption, electrochemical, and photovoltaic properties for these sensitizers were then systematically investigated. It is found that the sensitizers have similar photophysical and electrochemical properties, such as absorption spectra and energy levels, owing to their close chemical structures. However, the quasi-solid-state dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) based on the two types of sensitizers exhibit very different performance parameters. Upon the incorporation of the short ethyl group on the hexyl moiety, enhancements in both open-circuit voltage (V(oc)) and short-circuit current (J(sc)) are achieved for the quasi-solid-state DSSCs. The V(oc) gains originating from the suppression of charge recombination were quantitatively investigated and are in good agreement with the experimentally observed V(oc) enhancements. Therefore, an enhanced solar energy conversion efficiency (η) of 6.16%, constituting an increase by 23%, is achieved under standard AM 1.5 sunlight without the use of coadsorbant agents for the quasi-solid-state DSSC based on sensitizer FNE40, which bears the branched alkyl group, in comparison with that based on FNE38 carrying the linear alkyl group. This work presents a design concept for considering the crucial importance of the branched alkyl substituent in novel metal-free organic sensitizers.
Rational Design of ZL003-based Organic Dyes for Highly Efficient Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells: Influence of Alkynyl Group and Π-Spacers on Photovoltaic Performance

Abstract:Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) have displayed huge potential in inexpensive, efficient, and clean solar energy-technology. To achieve highly efficient DSSCs, a series of D -n-A organic dyes were designed and their optoelectrical properties were calculated by density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT). Compared with ZL003, ZS1 designed by introducing the triple bond between donor and n bridge, has higher conjugation, narrower HOMO-LUMO bandgap, and extended ab-sorption spectra. Then five new organic dyes were designed by substituting benzothiadiazole part of ZS1 with five electron-deficient heterocycles. The designed dyes have more conjugated structure, which leads to stronger light harvesting ability with the absorption spectra expanding to the near infrared region, the maximum absorption wavelength red shifting 78 nm similar to 448 nm and light harvesting efficiency (LHE) curve broadening obviously. The intermolecular electron transfer (IET) rate of the design dye is much faster than that of ZL003, over 85.3% of electrons in the design dye have been injected into TiO2 within 200 fs. Especially, the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of BBTD, BTTD and BZOD is more than 25.7%, mainly re-flected in the obvious jump of the theoretical short current density (Jpred . sc ) by more than 68%. Therefore, the design dyes have a good application prospect. We believe that this work could provide theoretical guidance for the design of potential organic sensitizers in highly efficient DSSCs.(c) 2022 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
Molecular Engineering of Quinoxaline-Based Organic Sensitizers for Highly Efficient and Stable Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells

Abstract:A series of quinoxaline based metal-free organic sensitizers has been designed and synthesized for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The absorption, electrochemical, and photovoltaic properties for all sensitizers have been systematically investigated. It is found that the incorporation of quinoxaline unit instead of thienopyrazine unit results in a negative shift of the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital levels for FNE44, FNE45, FNE46, and FNE47, in comparison to FNE32, which induces a remarkable enhancement of the electron injection driving force from the excited organic sensitizers to the TiO2 semiconductor. Moreover, when the alkyl substituents are removed from the spacer part in FNE44 to the donor part in FNE45 and FNE46, a more conjugated system and a bathochromically shifted maximum absorption band can be realized, which consequently results in an increased light harvesting efficiency and photogenerated current. In addition, the length of the alkyl substituents on the donor part has a certain influence on the DSSC performance. Combining the three contributions, FNE46,based DSSC with liquid electrolyte displays the highest power conversion efficiency (eta) of 8.27%. Most importantly, a eta of 7.14% has been achieved for FNE46 based quasi-solid-state DSSC and remained at 100% of the initial value after continuous light soaking for 1000 h, which indicates that FNE46 is appropriate for promising commercial application. Our findings will facilitate the understanding of the crucial importance of molecular engineering and pave a new path to design novel metal-free organic dyes for highly efficient and stable DSSCs.
Theoretical Study of High-Efficiency Organic Dyes with the Introduction of Different Auxiliary Heterocyclic Acceptors Based on IQ1 Toward Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells.

Abstract:Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) are currently the most widely developed low-cost photovoltaic devices. A series of D-A-π-A metal-free organic dyes based on IQ1 were designed and theoretically characterized by introducing different auxiliary acceptors. The results show that the introduction of auxiliary heterocyclic acceptors could effectively tune the photoelectronic properties. In addition, all designed dyes exhibit better optoelectronic properties than IQ1. In particular, dye PIAQ not only has excellent light harvesting capability over the entire visible region and a portion of the near-infrared region, wider light harvesting efficiency (LHE) curve and larger maximum short-circuit current density (JSCmax), but also has narrower energy gap (HOMO-LUMO), larger shift of the conduction band energy level (ΔECB) and lower injection and regeneration driving force. Therefore, the designed sensitizers might have outstanding properties and could be promising candidates for improving DSSCs performance.
Efficient quasi-solid-state dye-sensitized solar cells based on organic sensitizers containing fluorinated quinoxaline moiety

Abstract:Two novel organic sensitizers (FNE55 and FNE56) containing a 6,7-difluoroquinoxaline moiety have been designed and synthesized for quasi-solid-state dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). For comparison, an organic dye, FNE54, without fluorine has also been synthesized. The effects of the introduction of fluorine on the absorption, electrochemical and photovoltaic properties have been systematically investigated. Upon the incorporation of fluorine in the quinoxaline unit, the electron-withdrawing ability is strengthened, which results in the enhanced push-pull interactions and thus narrows the energy band gap. The absorption maximum wavelength in toluene solution bathochromically shifts from 504 nm for FNE54 to 511 nm for FNE55, and further to 525 nm for FNE56. However, although the lowest unoccupied molecular orbitals (LUMOs) are lowered down after the introduction of fluorines, the driving force for the photo-excited electrons from their excited states to the semiconductor conduction band is still sufficient. Consequently, the quasi-solid-state DSSC based on FNE56 exhibits a highest power conversion efficiency of 8.2%, which is 37% higher than that for FNE54 based quasi-solid-state DSSCs.

Abstract:Three near infrared (NIR) metal-free organic sensitizers (FNE32, FNE34, FNE36) based on the thieno[3,4-b]pyrazine derivative have been designed and synthesized for application in quasi-solid-state dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). These organic dyes demonstrate maximum absorption bands at 596-625 nm due to the presence of the thieno[3,4-b]pyrazine derivative, which facilitates the intramolecular electron transfer from the donor to the acceptor. Quasi-solid-state DSSCs based on FNE34 display efficient photoelectric conversion over the whole visible range extending into the NIR region up to 900 nm with maximum incident monochromatic photon-to-electron conversion efficiency (IPCE) of 77%, yielding a short-circuit photocurrent density of 16.24 mA cm(-2) and a power conversion efficiency of 5.30%. To the best of our knowledge, this is the highest efficiency for quasi-solid-state DSSCs based on an organic NIR dye. When exposed to one-sun illumination for 1000 h, the quasi-solid-state DSSC based on FNE34 exhibits good long-term stability with almost constant power conversion efficiency.

Abstract:This paper focuses on the structure modification of triphenylamine dyes for efficient dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Three D-D-pi-A dyes (TTR1-3), with triphenylamine moiety and its derivatives as the electron donor, thiophene ring as the pi-bridge, and 2-(1,1-dicyanomethylene) rhodanine (DCRD) as the electron acceptor, were synthesized and fully characterized. Nanocrystalline TiO2-based DSSCs were fabricated using these dyes to investigate the effect of different donor groups introduced into triphenylamine on their photovoltaic performances. The overall power conversion efficiency (PCE) of DSSCs based on TTR1-3 with chenodeoxycholic acid (CDCA) coadsorbant are 5.20%, 5.71% and 6.30%, respectively, compared to 6.62% achieved with N719. Introduced heterocyclic group with alkyl lain into triphenylamine decreased dye absorbed amount but significantly improved the value of the open circuit voltage (V-oc) and the short-circuit photocurrent (J(sc)), which result from the fact that they can effectively suppress the charge recombination and prevent aggregation between adjacent molecules on TiO2. We also researched the effect of sensitization for single dyes on their photovoltaic performances. The PCEs of DSSCs soaked for 32 h increase slightly compared to those of DSSCs soaked for 16 h, which result from the adsorption quantity on the TiO2 surface. We found that, with soaking twice in 32 h, the J(sc) and V-oc were both obviously improved compared with soaking once in 32 h. These results provide a new approach for enhancing the photovoltaic performances of DSSCs based on single dye.
Novel Thiazolo[5,4-D]thiazole-based Organic Dyes for Quasi-Solid-state Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells.

Abstract:A series of novel metal-free organic dyes containing the thiazolo[5,4-d]thiazole moiety were designed and synthesized for quasi-solid-state dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Different alkoxy chains were introduced into the electron donor part of the dye molecules for comparison. The optical, electrochemical, and photovoltaic properties for all sensitizers were systematically investigated. It was found that the sensitizers with the different alkoxy groups have similar photophysical and electrochemical properties, such as absorbance and energy levels, owing to their close chemical structures. However, the quasi-solid-state DSSCs based on the resulting sensitizers exhibit different performance parameters. The quasi-solid-state DSSC based on sensitizer FNE74 with two octyloxy chains possessed the highest solar energy conversion efficiency of 5.10 % under standard AM 1.5G sunlight illumination without the use of coadsorbant agents.
Energy level engineering of thieno[3,4-b]pyrazine based organic sensitizers for quasi-solid-state dye-sensitized solar cells

Abstract:Thieno[3,4-b]pyrazine based organic sensitizers with cyanoacrylic acid (FNE64 and FNE66) or carboxylic acid (FNE65 and FNE67) as anchoring groups have been designed and synthesized to optimize the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) level of panchromatic sensitizer FNE32 with an identical auxiliary electron acceptor. Their absorption, electrochemical and photovoltaic properties are systematically investigated. It is found that sensitizers FNE65 and FNE67 with carboxylic acid as the anchoring group possess more negative LUMO levels as compared with sensitizers FNE64 and FNE66 with cyanoacrylic acid as the anchoring group. In addition to tuning the LUMO level of thieno[3,4-b] pyrazine based organic sensitizer FNE32 by attaching different anchoring groups, the number of the bridged benzene ring has been optimized and two types of organic sensitizers with D-A-pi-A (FNE64 and FNE65) and D-pi-A-pi-A (FNE66 and FNE67) frameworks have been comparatively investigated. Upon the incorporation of an additional phenylene unit into sensitizers FNE64 and FNE65 with the D-A-pi-A configuration, sensitizers FNE66 and FNE67 with the D-pi-A-pi-A structure exhibit unusual hypsochromically shifted absorption maxima. Moreover, the LUMO levels of the thieno[3,4-b] pyrazine based sensitizers FNE66 and FNE67 are lifted up, which results in a dramatically improved driving force for the electron injection from the excited dye molecules to the conduction band of the titania semiconductor. Consequently, the power conversion efficiency of the quasi-solid-state dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) based on FNE66 increases by 95% in comparison to that for the quasi-solid-state DSSC based on panchromatic sensitizer FNE32 whose photo-response range is over 900 nm. Our findings will facilitate the understanding of the crucial importance of energy level engineering and present a way for tuning the LUMO levels of organic sensitizers at a fixed electron acceptor.
X-Shaped Organic Dyes with A Quinoxaline Bridge for Use in Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells

Abstract:Two novel X-shaped organic sensitizers (FNE48 and FNE49) with a quinoxaline bridge have been designed and synthesized. The structural difference between the two sensitizers is the number of anchoring groups. The relationship between the chemical structures and their optoelectronic properties has been systematically investigated. It is found that a broader and more intense charge transfer band is observed for sensitizer FNE48, with a single anchoring group, in comparison to sensitizer FNE49, which contains twin anchoring groups. Consequently, a high power conversion efficiency (eta) of 6.2% is achieved for a dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) based on sensitizer FNE48 using a liquid electrolyte. Moreover, a eta of 5.2% is obtained for a quasi-solid-state DSSC based on sensitizer FNE48 and this remains at 100% of the initial value after continuous light irradiation for 1500 h.

Up to now, many different pure organic dyes and transition metal complexes have been evaluated as sensitizers. DSSCs sensitized with pure organic dyes have relatively lower power conversion efficiencies than those sensitized with metal complexes. However, pure organic dyes have many advantages for their application in DSSCs, such as lower cost, higher absorption coefficient and easy control of redox potentials of LUMO and HOMO levels. Importantly, the highest power conversion efficiency of DSSCs with pure organic dyes has reached 8.0%, which is close to that (similar to 10%) of DSSCs with metal complexes. In this paper, the features of pure organic dyes and several ways for the design towards higher efficiency are presented. The recent progress on the selection and utilization of these pure organic dyes, especially organic D-pi-A dyes, are mainly discussed. The effects of the structures of organic D-pi-A dyes on cell performances are compared.

Abstract:A novel near-infrared (NIR) organic sensitizer FNE53 with a strong electron-withdrawing unit, dithieno[2,3-a:3',2'-c]phenazine, has been designed and synthesized for quasi-solid-state dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). By simply fusing the two thiophene rings on quinoxaline unit in sensitizer FNE48, the intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) band bathochromically shifts from 542 nm for FNE48 to 629 nm for FNE53 in toluene solution. The absorption spectrum of sensitizer FNE53 covers the whole visible region and extends to the NIR region, which exhibits complementary absorption profile to another organic dye FNE46 based on quinoxaline. When FNE46 and FNE53 are used as cosensitizers for metal-free cocktail-type quasi-solid-state DSSCs, sensitizer FNE53 not only extends the photoresponse range but also suppresses the intermolecular interactions among the dye molecules. Therefore, the cocktail-type quasi-solid-state DSSC displays much higher IPCE value compared with that for the DSSC sensitizer based on FNE53 and a broader IPCE response in comparison to that for the DSSC sensitizers based on FNE46, respectively. After the molar ratio between the two cocktail dyes is optimized, the highest energy conversion efficiency of 8.04% is achieved in a metal-free quasi-solid-state DSSC cosensitized with FNE46 and FNE53, which exhibits good long-term stability after continuous light soaking for 1000 h.
Novel organic sensitizers containing dithiafulvenyl units as additional donors for efficient dye-sensitized solar cells

Abstract:In order to increase the electron-donating ability of the donor part of the organic dye, the dithiafulvenyl (DTF) group as an additional electron donor is introduced into a triphenylamine (TPA) unit to form a donor-donor (2D) structure in this paper. Two new organic dyes WD9 (one 2-cyanoacetic acid as an electron acceptor) and WD11 (two 2-cyanoacetic acids as electron acceptors) containing this DTF-TPA 2D structure are designed, synthesized and applied in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). It is found that the double donor structures (DTF-TPA) not only contribute to enhancement of the electron-donating ability, but also inhibit aggregation between dye molecules and prevent I-3(-) in the electrolyte from recombining with injected electrons in TiO2. Under AM 1.5G irradiation (100 mW cm(-2)), a maximum power conversion efficiency (eta) of 4.09% is obtained for the WD11-based DSSC, higher than that of DTF-free dye L0 (eta = 2.47%). These results have demonstrated that the incorporation of the DTF group into the organic dye will be an effective approach to develop high-performance metal-free organic dyes.

Abstract:Two sets of isomeric organic dyes with n-hexyl (DH and AH) or 2-ethylhexyl (DEH and AEH) groups substituted at the spacer part have been designed and straightforwardly synthesized via a facile and selective synthetic route. The structure difference between the isomers stands at the position of the incorporated alkyl chains which are introduced into the terthiophene spacer close to the donor (D) or anchor (A) side. The relationship between the isomeric structures and the optoelectronic properties are systematically investigated. It is found that, in the D series dyes, the alkyl group is much closer to the aromatic donor moiety, which brings about strong steric hindrance and therefore causes a remarkable twist in the molecular skeleton. In contrast, a more planar chemical structure and more effective π-conjugation are realized in the A series dye isomers. Consequently, the A series isomeric dyes demonstrate bathochromically shifted absorption bands, resulting in the improved light-harvesting capability and enhanced photo-generated current. However, the D series isomeric dyes with more twisted molecular skeleton have suppressed the intermolecular interactions and retarded the charge recombination more efficiently, which induces higher open-circuit photovoltage. Combining the two effects on the performance of the fabricated dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSC), the influence from the short-circuit photocurrent plays a more significant role on the power conversion efficiency (η). As a result, isomer AEH-based DSSC with quasi-solid-state electrolyte displays the highest η of 7.10% which remained at 98% of the initial value after continuous light soaking for 1000 h. Promisingly, a η of 8.66% has been achieved for AEH-based DSSC with liquid electrolyte containing Co(II)/(III) redox couple. This work presents the crucial issue of molecular engineering and paves a way to design organic sensitizers for highly efficient and stable DSSCs.
Tuning the Energy Level of Organic Sensitizers for High-Performance Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells

Abstract:Cost-effective organic sensitizers will play a pivotal role in the future large-scale production and application of dye-sensitized solar cells. Here we report two new organic D-pi-A dyes featuring electron-rich 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene- and 2,2'-bis(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)-conjugated linkers, showing a remarkable red-shifting of photocurrent action spectra compared with their thiophene and bithiophene counterparts. On the basis of the 3-f{5'-[N,N-bis(9,9-dimethylfluorene-2-yl)phenyl]-2,2'-bis(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)-5-yl}2-cyanoacrylic acid dye, we have set a new efficiency record of 7.6% for solvent-free dye-sensitized solar cells based on metal-free organic sensitizers. Importantly, the cell exhibits an excellent stability, keeping over 92% of its initial efficiency after 1000 h accelerated tests under full sunlight soaking at 60 degrees C. This achievement will considerably encourage further design and exploration of metal-free organic dyes for higher performance dye-sensitized solar cells. We have also scrutinized the physical origins of the relatively low photocurrent and photovoltage obtained with an ionic liquid electrolyte compared to a volatile acetonitrile-based electrolyte through transient and modulated photoelectrical measurements.
Enhanced performance of dye-sensitized solar cells with Y-shaped organic dyes containing di-anchoring groups

Abstract:Two new Y-shaped D-pi-(A)(2) type phenothiazine-based dyes (ZJA2 and ZJA3) were designed and synthesized for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Compared to the single D-pi-A analogue dye ZJA1, the Y-shaped dye with two carboxylic acid anchors was in favour of enhancing the performance of DSSCs. The FTIR spectra revealed that the dye ZJA2 molecules were anchored onto the TiO2 surface by two carboxylic acid anchors, which effectively increased the electron extraction channels. The steady-state emission spectra and time-resolved fluorescence experiments all indicated that the electron injection efficiency of dye ZJA2 was improved by the increased electron extraction channels, thus the J(sc) of ZJA2 was greatly improved compared to dye ZJA1. In addition, benzene was used as the pi-bridge for linking di-anchoring groups, combined with CDCA, thereby reducing the charge recombination. As a result, the PCE of the DSSC based on ZJA2 (4.55%) was 67% higher than the DSSC based on ZJA1 (2.72%). The Y-shaped D-pi-(A)(2) type phenothiazine-based dye ZJA3 containing two pyridine anchors was also investigated, and the DSSC based on ZJA3 showed a poor PCE (0.45%) due to the low dye loading.

Abstract:Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) are currently under intense academic and industrial investigations, because of their environmentally-friendly, efficient, and low-cost features. The photosensitizer plays a key role in determining DSSCs' performance. The 4,4'-di(2-thienyl)triphenylamine moiety, included in dye TTC102, has been demonstrated before as a novel and efficient electron donor fragment. In this paper, the oversimple π-conjugated bridge of TTC102 was replaced by a 9-ethyl-3,6-di(2-thiophenyl)carbazole moiety. Two new D-D-π-A sensitizers, named TTC104 and TTC105, were synthesized and fully characterized. After anchoring on TiO(2) nanoparticle film, the absorption band of TTC104 is broader by 30 nm than that of TTC102. Under AM 1.5G irradiation, the energy conversion efficiency (η) of a DSSC based on TTC104 reaches 6.36%, which is 21.6% higher than that of TTC102 (5.24%). The results above demonstrate that the photovoltaic performance can be improved after introducing the 9-ethyl-3,6-di(2-thiophenyl)carbazole moiety to TTC102 when employed in DSSCs. Dye TTC105, containing a pyridyl group as the electron acceptor, showed only 1.88% conversion efficiency (η) when used in DSSCs. The huge different performances of TTC104 and TTC105 are proved to be partly due to the smaller dye loading amount, higher dark current and charge recombination rate of TTC105.
Performance Regulation of Thieno[3,2-b]benzothiophene π-Spacer-Based D-π-A Organic Dyes for Dye-Sensitized Solar Cell Applications: Insights From Computational Study

Abstract:Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) have been widely investigated; however, the development of promising dye sensitizers is still appealing. In this work, we perform a detailed theoretical search for high-efficiency D-π-A organic dyes using density functional theory and time-dependent density functional theory calculations. Specifically, we perform geometric optimization, and electronic structure and absorption spectra calculations for isolated dyes for two thieno[3,2-b]benzothiophene π-spacer-based D-π-A organic dyes SGT129 and SGT130, which show significant efficiency difference, before and after binding to a TiO2 semiconductor. The calculation results reveal that the coplanar configuration between the electron donor and the π-spacer can enhance electronic communication efficiently, thus facilitating intra-molecular charge transfer from the electron donor to the acceptor groups in SGT130. The absorption spectrum of SGT130 broadens and is red-shifted owing to the decreased bandgap. The higher light-harvesting efficiency, favorable intra-molecular charge transfer, larger shift of the conduction band edge in the TiO2 semiconductor, and slower charge recombination between the injected electrons in the TiO2 conduction band and the electrolyte explain the superior efficiency of SGT130 over that of SGT129. Using SGT130 as the reference dye, we further design four novel dyes 1-4 by modifying the π-spacer with electron-rich and electron-withdrawing moieties. Judging from the theoretical parameters influencing the short-circuit current and open-circuit voltage, we found that all dyes would perform better than SGT130 in terms of the favorable interfacial charge transfer (ICT) and light-harvesting efficiency, as well as the larger shift of the TiO2 conduction band edge. Our theoretical research is expected to provide valuable insights into the molecular modification of TBT-based D-π-A organic dyes for DSSC applications.
