A Survey on Amphetamine-type Stimulants: Social Demographics and Patterns of Use

Abstract:Objective: To investigate the social demographic data and patterns of use in ATS (amphetamine-type stimulants) users Method: Started by case identifying then privileged access and by snowball method, 59 recreational users of ATS were collected as our sample Results: The mean age of our sample was 24(5 year-old, 38 of them were single, 9 were cohabiting, 7 were married, and the other 5 were divorced 50 of the 59 had formal education no less than high school The major occupations were waiter and self-employed Yaotouwan (MDMA) was the main ATS being used, most of which come from friends and acquaintance (73%) 90% of them had used for less than 50 times until we did the investigation, most through oral and average dosage per session was 250 mg The purpose of using included: to feel elated or happy, to feel better when depressed, to relax oneself, to feel less suppressed etc Other psychoactive substance used by them included: alcohol, benzodiazepines (valium), heroin, cannabis and LSD Nearly all of them had friends or acquaintance using ATS 27 of them had casual sexual partner and 13 used condom every time Conclusion:Recreational ATS users are a special young group, who needs more attention and intervention
