Abstract:An ultra-broadband tunable cascaded Raman random fiber laser pumped by a tunable (1020-1080 nm) ytterbium-doped fiber laser is investigated. By continuously adjusting the pump laser wavelength, the Raman random laser tunes accordingly due to the Raman gain competition. By increasing the pump power, up to the 5th order Raman random laser is achieved. As a result, 300 nm of continuous wavelength tuning from 1070 to 1370 nm is achieved by adjusting the pump wavelength and power altogether. The highest output power is 1.8 W at 1360 nm with an optical efficiency of 15% from 1080 nm. To the best of our knowledge, this is the widest wavelength tuning range reported for a random fiber laser so far. (C) 2016 Optical Society of America

Abstract:Multiple Raman peak properties in a 130 m tellurite fiber are demonstrated in this paper. When the tellurite fiber is pumped by a nanosecond laser at similar to 1545 nm, a second-order Raman shift with multiple Raman peaks is observed. Especially for the first-order Raman shift, six obvious Raman peaks are observed. When the tellurite fiber is pumped by a picosecond laser at similar to 1064 nm, a second-order Raman shift with only dual Raman peaks is obtained. Abstract:A widely tunable ring cavity fiber laser using 1480 n m high power LDs as forward and backward pumping is discussed.It also takes the Bi-based Er-doped fiber as the gain media,and uses the rotating F-P tunable f ilter and two band-pass filters as the wavelength tuning device .The laser ca n cover 100 nm(1523~1623 nm) tuning range controlled by software. The output pow er is above 2 dBm. The 3 dB bandwidth is below 0.1 nm. The wavelength repetitio n precision is below 0.01 nm.

Abstract:We demonstrate a highly efficient, wavelength-adjustable 1.7-μm all-fiber Raman pulse laser, utilizing dissipative-soliton-resonance (DSR) rectangular pulses as the pump. A 50-m GeO 2 -doped silica fiber serves as the Raman gain medium. When pumped at 1580.2 nm, the 1st-order Raman pulse at 1698.5 nm exhibits a spectral purity as high as 97.7% and a Raman optical conversion efficiency of 59.4%, marking the highest levels ever achieved in a 1.7-μm all-silica-fiber pulsed Raman laser, to the best of our knowledge. The output Raman pulses exhibit a pulse width of approximately 10 ns and achieve a maximum average power of 325.3 mW. By adjusting the central wavelength of DSR pulses, the Raman laser can be continuously tuned across a range of 31.5 nm (1676.4~1707.9 nm). This is the widest tunable range yet reported for an all-silica-fiber pulsed Raman laser operating at 1.7 μm. Our system offers a simple and attractive solution for the realization of efficient, tunable all-fiber pulse lasers within the 1.7-μm band.

Abstract:We report a widely tunable V-cavity laser monolithically integrated with an electro-absorption modulator (EAM). The device shows a 41-nm wavelength tunability covering 51 channels at 100 GHz spacing on the ITU grid, with a side-mode suppression ratio (SMSR) higher than 47 dB. Error-free transmission over 50 km standard single-mode fiber at 10 Gb/s is demonstrated at all wavelengths over the tuning range. The integrated EAM exhibits a dynamic extinction ratio higher than 12.5 dB. The bit-error-rate measurements show a power penalty less than 3 dB for 50-km transmission. The results demonstrate that this ultra-compact and regrowth-free electro-absorption modulated tunable laser can be a cost-effective transmitter solution for DWDM metropolitan and access networks.

Abstract:A widely tunable compact erbium-doped all fiber ring laser with 104nm turning range was reported. A fiber Fabry-Perot filter (FFP-TF) was used to be the tuning element to realize turning range from 1513nm to 1617nm with the linewidth less than 40 pm at any wavelength. The fiber laser worked with slope efficiency of above 10% and threshold of less than 21mW. This fiber laser can be used to realize wavelength interrogation with a relatively high speed and high resolution. © 2010 IEEE.

Abstract:We report a single-wavelength tunable mode-locked fiber laser. The single wavelength can be tuned from 1537.49 nm to 1608.06 nm by introducing a Sagnac loop filter. As far as we know, this is the widest single-wavelength tuning range achieved in an erbium-doped mode-locked all-fiber laser based on nonlinear amplifying loop mirror (NALM). The laser's pulse width changes from 549 fs to 808 fs throughout the tuning process, the maximum average output power is 5.72 mW, and the single-pulse energy is 0.34 nJ at a central wavelength of 1556.53 nm. This laser source can serve as an efficient tool for applications that require a broad tunability range. The combination of femtosecond pulses and extensive wavelength tuning capabilities makes this laser system highly valuable in fields such as fiber optic communications, spectroscopy, sensing, and other applications that benefit from ultrafast and tunable laser sources.

Abstract:A widely tunable single-longitudinal-mode (SLM) ytterbium-doped fiber laser is experimentally demonstrated, which is achieved by combining a fiber Lyot filter and a saturable absorber in a ring cavity. Stable SLM operation from 1045 nm to 1076 nm is obtained by properly adjusting the polarization state. The output power reaches 7.5 dBm with a fluctuation of less than 2 dB. The optical signal-to-noise ratio is 42.5 dB with a fluctuation of less than 6 dB in this wavelength range.

Abstract:A compact erbium-doped ring-shaped fiber laser suitable for fiber-optic sensing applications has been developed. The fiber laser utilized a tunable fiber Fabry–Perot filter as the tuning element and had a moderate milli-Watt level power output over almost the whole tuning range from 1530 to 1595nm with a power fluctuation of 0.15dB. High repetition rate scanning of laser operation over the whole tuning range was achieved at rates of up to 200Hz. Moreover, the performance of the ring-shaped fiber laser configured with a high-concentration erbium-doped fiber was investigated for its larger wavelength tunability of over 100nm. Output power characteristics of this ring-shaped fiber laser were also investigated when it worked in a scanning mode. A distorted power wavelength dependence, as well as some pulsing phenomenon were observed in scanning mode.

Abstract:The principle, design and experimental results of widely tunable V-cavity lasers are reviewed. By using a novel half-wave coupler, single-mode lasing with high side-mode-suppression-ratio is achieved. Single-electrode controlled wide-band wavelength tuning is realized by employing the Vernier mechanism. The tuning range can be further extended beyond the free spectral range limit by using the effect of temperature induced gain spectrum shift. The full-band tuning of 50 channels with 100 GHz spacing is demonstrated at 1550 nm range. Similarly, 41-channel tuning with 150 GHz spacing is achieved at 870 nm. The advantages of compactness, fabrication simplicity, and easy wavelength control offer great potential for the tunable laser to be used in low-cost access and data center networks.

Abstract:We report a diamond Raman laser that is continuously-tunable across the range from 590 nm to 625 nm producing continuous wave output with up to 8 W. The system is based on an all-fiber and tunable (1020–1072 nm) Yb-doped pump laser with a spectral linewidth of 25 GHz that is Raman-shifted and frequency doubled in a cavity containing diamond and a lithium triborate second harmonic crystal. Despite the broad pump spectrum, single frequency output is obtained across the tuning range 590–615 nm. The results reveal a practical approach to obtain tunable high-power single-frequency laser in a wavelength region not well served by other laser technologies.

Abstract:This paper describes a tunable fiber soliton laser. This laser is configured as a ring with a silica optical fiber gain medium. A length of 300 m conventional fiber provides the negative group velocity dispersion, self-phase modulation and Raman gain effect. The time-dispersion tuning technology is used for wavelength selection, because the Raman gain of silica fiber has a wide spectrum. The different wavelengths have different optical lengths, when they propagate in a optical fiber. We use an active modelocking Nd:YLF laser which has wavelength 1.313 micrometers with pulse width of 70 ps for pumping source and silica optical fiber of 300 m for gain medium and group velocity dispersion compensator. The pulse width (FWHM) of 195 fs has been got, the laser wavelength is 1.395 micrometers and tunable region of 47 nm near 1.397 micrometers .

Abstract:A broadband tunable, single-longitudinal-mode (SLM) ytterbium fiber laser based on a passive multiple-ring cavity (MRC) technique is proposed and demonstrated experimentally for the first time to our knowledge. Two different short ring cavities are inserted into the main ring cavity and serve as wideband mode filters to ensure SLM oscillation. With 1-m ytterbium-doped fiber as the gain medium, the SLM operation is achieved with over 60-nm wavelength tuning range at 100-mW pump power. The laser is very stable with output power of 6 dBm and an optical signal-to-noise ratio of higher than 53 dB in all the 60-nm tuning range.

Abstract:A numerical simulation of third-order cascaded Raman fiber laser based on tellurite fiber at the 2-5 μm waveband is presented. The Raman fiber laser can be optimized with the most suitable tellurite fiber length of 0.5-1.0 m and the most reasonable reflectivity of the third-order Stokes output FBG32 of 10%-20%. We demonstrate numerically that the third-order Stokes wave can reach the maximum average power of 45.2 W and the maximum optical conversion efficiency of 45.2%, corresponding to the FBG32 reflectivity of 10% and the tellurite fiber length of 0.3 m with the attenuation of 0.85 dB/m, when pumped by 2 μm light with the average power of 100 W. Our simulated results provide valuable theoretical guidance for the design and experiment of tellurite Raman fiber laser at a mid-infrared waveband.

Abstract:We propose an optically controlled tunable ultra-narrow linewidth fiber laser assisted with the mode selection induced by a saturable absorption interference ring and linewidth narrowing of fiber Rayleigh backscattering (RBS). The interference ring serves as an artificial narrow-band filter, which conduces to the laser operating at a single-frequency state. To realize narrower linewidths, additional single-mode fiber is utilized to accumulate a weak RBS feedback. On basis of inherent wavelength universality of this linewidth-narrowing mechanism, an all-optical technique is employed to enable linear and stable tunability of the laser. Cooperating with a micro-fiber Bragg grating covered by graphene, the lasing wavelength is tuned precisely and reversibly with a sensitivity of 12.4 pm/mW and a linear fitting R2 over 0.997 by changing the power of a controlling beam. During a stability test with the controlling pump power fixed, the long-term free-running power fluctuation is less than 0.5%. The Output laser linewidth is compressed to be ~200 Hz, which is also confirmed by the descending frequency noise spectrum.

Abstract:We demonstrate a tunable erbium-doped fiber ring laser based on an all-fiber filter. The filter consists of an optical circulator, a fiber loop mirror(FLM) and a polarizer which is spliced to a segment of polarization maintaining fiber (PMF) at the angle of 45 degrees with respect to the fast axis of the PMF. The laser can be tuned by adjusting two polarization controllers (PC) in the laser. The tuning range can reach to 6.08nm (1553.92-1560.1nm) with side mode suppression ratio (SMSR) over 38 dB. The stability of the laser is verified at room temperature in one hour, and the power fluctuation of the laser is less than 0.5 dB.

Abstract:Stimulated Raman scattering is an attractive way to extend the operation spectral range of optical sources. However, the spectral extension range of a tunable Raman laser is limited by the Raman frequency shift and pump tuning bandwidth. This makes it challenging to realize chip-scale, widely tunable Raman lasers, as on-chip lasers only provide limited pump power and tuning bandwidth. Here, we tackle this by dispersion engineering of a thin-film lithium niobate microring resonator, where its high-quality factor ( ~ 2.5 million) ensures a sub-milli-watt (0.8 mW) threshold for Raman lasing while its strong normal dispersion with suppressed avoided mode crossing restrains the competing Kerr comb generation process. Combining the multi-wavelength Raman gain response of lithium niobate and cascaded Raman lasing, we demonstrate a widely tunable Raman laser covering 1592–1955 nm, showing a 335-nm spectral extension range from a 94-nm-tuning-bandwidth pump laser. Our demonstration paves the way to realize chip-scale, widely-tunable Raman lasers.
