Abstract:RF excited common electrode z-fold RF excited waveguide CO2 lasers with two channels is studied. The two channels are excited by the same RF source. This kind of structure has the advantages of high offset frequency stability, low cost, easy manufacturing and small size over two separated lasers.

Abstract:An experimental investigation of a pulsed electrooptically Q-switched radio-frequency partial Z-fold waveguide CO2 laser with two channels is presented. The heterodyne frequency stability is analyzed in theory. Q-switched pulses are obtained from the partial Z-fold channel. The peak power is 730W and the pulse width is 150 ns. CW laser can output from the single channel. The laser output directions are opposite.

Abstract:A tunable electrooptically Q-switched RF excited waveguide CO2 laser with two channels is presented. Q-switched pulses have been obtained from one of the channels. The peak power is 300 W and the pulse width is 140 ns. CW laser output has been obtained from the other channel, which can been tuned by a PZT. The short-term heterodyne stability can be up to 10−9.

Abstract:To provide the ideal light source for difference frequency THz generation,dual-channels and com-electrode RF waveguide CO2 laser has been developed.The laser line from each channel is selected by a grating.Two PZTs are used to control the length of the laser cavity to adjust the laser frequency and pulse setup time.In experiments,two different wavelength lasers are obtained from the dual channels.The voltage on the PZT is tuned to ensure the pulse laser synchronism.The laser has high synchronism probability and compact and small size.

Abstract:A tunable Q-switched/cavity-dumped partial Z-fold CO2 waveguide laser with two channels and common electrodes was designed. The Q-switched and cavity-dumped pulse lasers have been obtained from the Z-fold channel with a tunable pulse repetition frequency (PRF) of 1-70 kHz. At the Q-switched operation, the peak power is 730 W and the pulsewidth is 150 ns at the PRF of 10 KHz. At the cavity-dumped operation, the pulse laser width can be adjusted. The peak power is 6000 W with the pulsewidth of 20 ns and 3400W for 32 ns. Continuous-wave laser output has been obtained from the other channel and its frequency can be tuned by a piezoelectric transducer. The Q-switched and cavity-dumped pulse laser heterodyne waveforms are observed. Meanwhile, six-temperature model was used to analyze the process of the dynamic emission in the electrooptically Q-switched CO2 laser. The theoretical results were well consistent with the experimental results.

Abstract:RF-excited (Radio Frequency excited) waveguide CO2 laser with two channels has been widely applied in coherent detection, coherent laser radar, etc. In this paper a novel structure of Z-fold dual-channel RF-excited waveguide CO2 laser with double-shell vacuum was developed, which own the advantage of long operating life. The laser was composed of double-shell vacuum chamber. The pressure and the ratio of both vacuum chamber gas were equivalent. The waveguide structure was composed by a metal ceramic sandwich which was fixed into the first vacuum chamber. The second vacuum chambers were used to reduce the leak speed of the first vacuum chamber in order to maintain the pressure of the first vacuum chamber. In experiments, the life of the single vacuum laser is about 150 hours, and the double vacuum laser operating life is about 700 hours.

Abstract:We report on passive offset frequency stability in free-running applications and active offset frequency stability achieved by use of a frequency-locking technique for a Q-switched Z-fold rf-excited waveguide CO2 laser with two channels. The laser structure of common electrodes and two channels has the advantage of compensating for the frequency variation caused by variations in temperature, cavity length, gas refractive index, and mechanical vibrations, so its offset frequency stability is higher than that of two separate lasers. In the experiments, the offset frequency shift was less than 6 MHz for 3 min in free-running mode. The technique of active offset frequency locking by counting was also introduced. The beat frequency shifting value was smaller than +/- 0.5 MHz in the long term. (c) 2005 Optical Society of America.

Abstract:In this paper, an electro-optically cavity-dumped, rf-excited, Z-folded waveguide CO2 laser is presented. Theoretical studies on the laser output wave form and method to control laser pulse width and output power are made. In the experiment, a pulse width of a cavity-dumped laser can be changed from 12 to 32 ns. However, the corresponding peak powers reduce from 7000 to 2800 W at a pulse repetition rate of 10 kHz. The experimental results are consistent with the theoretical analyses. (c) 2005 American Institute of Physics.

Abstract:Photonic crystal lasers with a high-Q factor and small mode volume are ideal light sources for on-chip nano-photonic integration. Due to the submicron size of their active region, it is usually difficult to achieve high output power and single-mode lasing at the same time. In this work, we demonstrate well-selected single-mode lasing in a line-defect photonic crystal cavity by coupling it to the high-Q modes of a short double-heterostructure photonic crystal cavity. One of the FP-like modes of the line-defect cavity can be selected to lase by thermo-optically tuning the high-Q mode of the short cavity into resonance. Six FP-like modes are successively tuned into lasing with side mode suppression ratios all exceeding 15 dB. Furthermore, we show a continuous wavelength tunability of about 10 nm from all the selected modes. The coupled cavity system provides a remarkable platform to explore the rich laser physics through the spatial modulation of vacuum electromagnetic field at submicron scale.

The experimental results are consistent with the theoretical analyses.

Abstract:In this paper, we designed the offset frequency locking and active frequency stabilization system for the continuous-wave (CW) and electro-optical Q-switched RF-excited waveguide CO2 lasers to provide an ideal light source for coherent radar. The CW laser is used as a local laser, and the pulsed laser is used as a main laser, which can produce Q-switched and cavity-dumped laser synchronously. A closed-loop laser frequency control system was used to stabilize the Q-switched laser at the gain curve center frequency and to lock the two lasers at a selected heterodyne frequency. The system includes two parts: 1) pulsed laser frequency stabilization and 2) offset frequency locking. The frequency stabilization part can keep the Q-switched laser oscillating at the peak of the gain curve by measuring the pulse build-up time continuously and controlling the cavity length. The offset frequency locking circuits keep the heterodyne frequency around the selected frequency by measuring the frequency of the beat signals and controlling the CW laser cavity length. In the experiment, the long-term frequency shift of the pulse laser was measured to be less than ±16 MHz and the offset frequency fluctuation was less than ±2 MHz when the frequency control system was in a closed-loop operation.

Abstract:A new kind of two-dimensional RF-discharge waveguide CO2 laser arrays is introduced. The characteristics of the laser arrays have been studied and the output power is 20 W when the gain length is 380 nm. The two-dimensional array has the advantages of simple construction, easy to fabricate, low cost. It opens a new way for the compact high power laser development.

Abstract:In this paper, an optical array resonator with phase-shifting end mirror has been combined with the RF-excited diffusively cooled slab waveguide CO2 lasers to obtain a desirable output laser beam with single-peaked far-field intensity distribution, which is highly spatially suppressed with the merits of high brightness and good characteristics of propagation. In the experiments, a maximum output power of 46 W and highest conversion efficiency of 11.3% have been obtained from a 200-mm-gain-length device. The laser beam intensity distribution acquired has similar characteristics to the ouptut beam from laser arrays due to the periodical structure of the phase-shifting total reflector, and has an excellent stability due to the mode-selection capability of this type of resonator. In this paper, theoretical analysis is also given, based on which corresponding theoretical model is established, the practical feasibility is shown, and the laser beam output with characteristics of in-phase array mode is predicted. The systematical experimental investigation indicates the prominent influence of the parameters of the phase-shifting array end mirror on the property of the output beam. Furthermore, the manufacturing errors of the phase-shifted array resonator are analyzed and the analysis provides a theoretical guide to the design of this type of lasers.

Abstract:A new type of packed slab waveguide CO2 laser was demonstrated, with which over I kilowatt power output was obtained from a device having only 500mm electrode length. The water cooled electrodes were made of Al alloy LY12. The working gas was a mixed gas of CO2:N2: He:Xe=1:1:3:0.05 with pressure of 1*104Pa, the input power of RF source was 900w with output frequency of 93.15MHz from a frequency modulator. This technique is possible to obtain compact CO2 laser with multikilowatts power output.

Abstract:In this paper, a mechanical Q-switching is used in radio frequency (RF) excited waveguide CO2 laser to obtain high pulse repetition frequency (PRF) laser. The Q-switching system includes two confocal ZnSe lenses and a high speed mechanical chopper, which is inserted into the cavity. The peak power is up to 730 W and the pulse width 200 ns at the highest PRF 20 kHz. The laser also has the advantages of compact, small-volume, and low-cost. © 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:It was first reported that by putting a ��/2 phase plate inside the cavity (instead of outside), the multi-mode oscillation can be effectively restrained so that a new beam output can be realized efficiently on a CO2 laser with a tube length L=900mm, tube diameter D=9mm, R1=��, R2=3m, and a discharge length=800mm. This approach provides the possibility for not only the birth of a new generation CO2 lasers but also the improvement of other types of lasers.

Abstract:We report the design and experimental results of a single-electrode controlled four-section coupled-cavity tunable laser. The device is fabricated by standard photolithography without epitaxial regrowth. A nine-channel switching of 100 GHz spacing, which is tuned by current injection on a single electrode, is demonstrated. The side-mode-suppression-ratio of each channel is between 31 and 37 dB and the power variation of all channels is <;1.6 dB. The performances under different temperatures are investigated.
