Abstract:In this paper a fast sparse direct static solver based on the cell index concept incorporating with unrolling strategies is reviewed. Several new software techniques for LDLT decomposition are employed to reduce the core memory as well as disk space requirement. Performance in terms of elapsed time and disk space requirement of several traditional and modified static solvers is demonstrated by solving engineering projects on PC machines. The speed will arise about 7 to 57 times and the storage space will decrease one of third in 7 test problems. To find eigenvalues and eigenvectors of a large scale problem is another time consuming and disk critical phase for conventional structural analysis. Incorporating the developed sparse static solution procedure with various eigenvalue solution schemes, the performance of eigenvalue solver is improved considerably. In this paper, subspace iteration, WYD Ritz-vector algorithm and Lanczos algorithm, in which the basic operation is LDLT factorization, are re-examined. Numerical tests on PC machines indicated that the efficiency of eigen solution schemes can be arisen about 8 times.
