Abstract:In this work, a facile, one-pot route has been applied to synthesize nanohybrids based on mixed oxide NiFe2O4 and reduced graphene oxide (rGO). The hybrid is constructed by nanosized NiFe2O4 crystals confined by few-layered rGO sheets. The formation mechanism and microstructure of the hybrids have been clarified by X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. Electrochemical tests show that the performance of NiFe2O4 can be considerably improved by rGO incorporation. The performance improvement can be attributed to the two-dimensional conductive channels and the unique hybrid structure rGO constructed. The easy synthesis and good electrochemical performance of NiFe2O4/rGO hybrid make it a promising anode material for Li-ion batteries.

Abstract:Recently, graphene-based materials have gained widespread attention due to their remarkable electronic characteristics, which make them ideal for use in a broad range of energy storage applications such as lithium-ion battery (LIB). Despite the potential benefits of graphene-based materials, the process of creating them in a cost-efficient manner remains difficult. Herein, we developed nitrogen-doped reduced graphene oxide (NRGO) through a one-step thermal reduction of graphene oxide (GO) and urea. We evaluated the structure and morphology of NRGO by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), ultraviolet-visible light (UV–vis) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and Raman spectroscopy , which revealed a wrinkled, layered structure with 8.4 % nitrogen content. Moreover, we also compared the performance of RGO and NRGO as an anode for LIB through various electrochemical characterizations, i.e., cyclic voltammetry (CV), galvanostatic charge discharge (CD), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The result indicates that NRGO provides 2.6 faster lithium diffusion compared to RGO. To gain insights into lithium migration pathways, density functional theory based nudged elastic band (DFT-NEB) simulations were performed. The results revealed the energy barrier of lithium migration in graphitic-NRGO is estimated to be 0.15 eV, and for its reverse reaction, a barrier of 0.22 eV is required. In conclusion, the NRGO synthesized through this relatively simple process displays a promising prospect for anode component in LIB and the reaction pathway simulation provides an important insight into the understanding of lithium migration on the NRGO surface and its optimization for LIB applications.

Abstract:Reduced graphene oxide (rGO) has attracted wide attention as anode materials of lithium ion batteries, however, restacking of rGO sheets limits its capacity and rate performance. To address this issue, a sandwich-like composite of N-doped carbon (NDC) and rGO (rGO@NDC) was fabricated via a process of absorbing [EMIm]N(CN)2 ionic liquid on the surface of graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets and subsequent heat-treating of the composite. The rGO@NDC composite exhibits a high specific capacity of 409.4 mAh g−1 with a Coulombic efficiency of 100% after 50 cycles at a charge-discharge rate of 0.5 C, and a specific capacity of 222.8 mAh g−1 with no capacity fade after 1200 cycles at charge-discharge rate of 10 C. Compositing the rGO with NDC particles can decrease the superficial oxygen-containing functional groups of the rGO, and therefore decrease side reactions during battery cycling. And embedding of NDC particles on the surface of rGO sheets avoids the restacking of rGO sheets and enlarges the interlayer space of the rGO to facilitate Li+ transport within the rGO@NDC. Finally, the NDC particles provide more accessible sites for Li+, and rGO sheets as conductivity networks improves electron transport.
A Novel Route to Prepare N-graphene/SnO2 Composite As a High-Performance Anode for Lithium Batteries

Abstract:In this study, we report a simple method to prepare nitrogen-doped graphene, with which a nitrogen-doped graphene/SnO2 composite was successfully fabricated and employed as a lithium battery anode. Electrochemical test results indicated that the as-prepared nitrogen-doped graphene/SnO2 electrode possesses high reversible capacity and outstanding charging and discharging capabilities, which would make it possible to meet the requirements for portable electronic devices in the future. These super electrochemical properties could benefit from the synergistic effect of SnO2 nanoparticles that contribute to the high capacity and nitrogen-doped graphene that could enhance the electroconductivity. Moreover, the graphene nanosheet provides a large specific surface area for SnO2 nanoparticles to anchor on, which could efficiently overcome the structure destruction of SnO2-based electrodes during continuous charging and discharging tests. This concept can offer a general approach toward designing anode materials with better performance.
Novel Sponge-Like N-doped Graphene Film As High-Efficiency Electrode for Li-ion Battery

Abstract:The novel sponge-like N-doped reduced graphene oxide films (N-rGO) were synthesized successfully via a facile one-step route at 800 degrees C. The as-prepared films are few-layer and have loose sponge-like structure between layers and the N-doping content can reach to 7.11% and C/O is 17:1. As an anode material of Li-ion battery (LiBs), the as-prepared N-rGO flim exhibit excellent electrochemical properties. It delivers an initial discharge capacity of 1673 mAh g(-1) and the reversible specific discharge capacity of 906 mAh g(-1) at the current density of 100 mA g(-1). Even at the current density of 1.6 A g(-1), the reversible specific capacity still could remain at 346 mAh g(-1) after 500 cycles. The appearance of N-doping microstructure of rGO with a high content and loose sponge-like framework might be applied to explain thus enhanced electrochemical properties.

Abstract:An in situ chemical synthetic approach has been designed for the fabrication of a covalently coupled hybrid consisting of graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) with reduced graphene oxide (rGO) with differing g-C3N4/rGO ratio. The epoxy groups of graphene oxide (GO) undergo a nucleophilic substitution reaction with dicyandiamide (C2H4N4) to form the C2H4N4-GO composite via a covalent C-N bond, and then both the in situ polymerization of C2H4N4 and the thermal reduction of GO can be achieved at higher temperatures, forming the covalently coupled g-C3N4-rGO. FT-IR, CP-MAS NMR and XPS analyses, clearly revealed a covalent interaction between the g-C3N4 and rGO sheets. The g-C3N4-rGO exhibits an unprecedented high, stable and reversible capacity of 1525 mA h g(-1) at a current density of 100 mA g(-1) after 50 cycles. Even at a large current density of 1000 mA g(-1), a reversible capacity of 943 mA h g(-1) can still be retained. The superior electrochemical performance of g-C3N4-rGO is attributed to the specific characteristics of the unique nanostructure of g-C3N4-rGO and the concerted effects of g-C3N4 and rGO, including covalent interactions between the two moieties, the good conductivity and high special surface area of the nanocomposite, as well as the template effect of the planar amino group of g-C3N4 for the dispersed decoration of Li(+) ions.
Facile Synthesis of Reduced Graphene Oxide In-situ Wrapped MnTiO3 Nanoparticles for Excellent Lithium Storage

Abstract:: The stable high-capacity anode has been an urgent demand for high energy density lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). Herein, a simple and effective strategy to synthesize high-performance reduced graphene oxide (rGO) in-situ wrapped MnTiO 3 nanoparticles (MnTiO 3 @rGO) by Sol-Gel method is designed. The MnTiO 3 nanoparticles are uniformly dispersed and wrapped by few-layer graphene. Due to high conductivity of rGO, MnTiO 3 @rGO nanoparticles show excellent rate performance, with a specific capacity of 286 mAh · g –1 being displayed at the higher rate of 5.0 A · g –1 . Moreover, benefited from porous structure and flexible rGO shell, the MnTiO 3 @rGO anode delivers a re-markable long-term cycling stability. The specific capacity maintains 441 mAh · g –1 after 500 cycles at 0.5 A · g –1 , only losing 8.4%. Therefore, the results demonstrate that the facile synthetic strategy is highly desirable for improving the conductivity and stability of metal oxide anodes.
Fabrication of nitrogen-doped porous graphene hybrid nanosheets from metal-organic frameworks for lithium-ion batteries

Abstract:To achieve a good electrochemical performance of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), the design and optimization of the anode is a key issue. Herein, the fabrication of nitrogen-doped porous graphene hybrid nanosheets (denoted as N-PGNS) is proposed via a simple functional group-induced growth of zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF-8) on graphene oxides (GO) followed by a one-step pyrolysis strategy. Detailed characterizations reveal that the N-doped porous carbon derived from ZIF-8 is homogeneously anchored on graphene, and can provide high electroactivity and numerous diffusion channels for fast Li+ transport. Meanwhile, the incorporation of graphene as a conductive framework and supporting substrate can accelerate the transfer of electrons. Taking advantage of the synergistic role between the graphene framework and N-doped porous carbon, the N-PGNS exhibits a stable reversible specific capacity of 741.8 mA h g(-1) as the anode for LIBs, which is notably higher than that of the N-doped porous carbon obtained directly by pyrolysis of ZIF-8. Furthermore, the N-PGNS electrodes also show superior electrochemical stability with an initial capacity of 90.38% over 1000 cycles at 5 A g(-1). The current strategy, which can control and adjust the growth of ZIF-8 via the inducing effect of GO, provides a promising solution to construct graphene hybrid nanosheets for high-performance LIBs.

Abstract:In this paper, a nanosheet-on-sheet architecture constructed from hierarchical, ultrathin, standing NiO nanosheets and rGO (denoted as NiO NSs@rGO) is successfully synthesized through a facile route. When evaluated as an anode electrode material for lithium ion batteries, the results show that the NiO NSs@rGO composite exhibits outstanding lithium storage performances with high specific capacity and excellent rate performance. The smart nanosheet-on-sheet architecture and its favorable synergistic effect between NiO and rGO make a contribution to the excellent electrochemical performance. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. Abstract:A new facile approach is proposed to synthesize nitrogen-doped graphene sheets with the nitrogen-doping level as high as 7.04 at.% by thermal annealing pristine graphene sheets and low-cost industrial material melamine. The high-level nitrogen-doped graphene sheets exhibit a superhigh initial reversible capacity of 1123 mAh g(-1) at a current density of 50 mA g(-1). More significantly, even at an extremely high current density of 20 A g(-1), highly stable capacity of about 241 mAh g(-1) could still be obtained. Such an electrochemical performance is superior to those previously reported nitrogen-doped graphene sheets. The excellent electrochemical performance can be attributed to the two-dimensional structure, disordered surface morphology, high nitrogen-doping level, and the existence of pyridinic nitrogen atoms. The results indicate that the high-level nitrogen-doped graphene sheets could be a promising anode material for high-performance lithium-ion batteries. (C) 2012 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Abstract:In this study, NiO was synthesized via a facile method and coated on the surface of a TiO2 anode material doped with rGO (reduced graphene oxide). TiO2/NiO/rGO nanocomposite structures were synthesized by a two-step solid-state method, and their lithium storage capacity was investigated and compared with that of both as-prepared TiO2/NiO and pure TiO2. The coating over the TiO2 surface helped to attain a higher capacity and cycle stability than that without it, even at high current rates. The TiO2/NiO/rGO nanocomposites show excellent performance with an initial discharge capacity of up to 324 mAh/g between 0 and 3 V vs Li at 20 mA/g. Furthermore, at a high current density of 100 mA/g, the TiO2/NiO/rGO nanocomposite still achieved a capacity of 245 mAh/g after 200 cycles. This excellent performance could be attributed to the stable framework and high electronic conductivity within the TiO2/NiO/rGO nanocomposite. (C) 2018 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:We demonstrate the fabrication of three-dimensional nitrogen-doped graphene (3D N-G)/nanoparticle anode architectures consisting of 3D N-G networks and Fe3O4 nanoparticles. In such a hybrid structure, the N-G networks act as a buffer matrix to accommodate the volume change of Fe3O4, and the interconnected N-G sheets effectively prevent the aggregation of nanoparticles during cycling, both of which enable the structural integrity and electrochemical stabilization of such composite electrodes. Furthermore, the as-obtained porous nitrogen-doped hybrid materials promote efficient transport of both lithium ions and electrons upon charging/discharging, and also provide defect sites as Li+ active sites on the surface of N-G sheets. As a result, the hybrids exhibit much-improved lithium storage performance.

Abstract:Two-dimensional carbon nanomaterials have attracted much attention in the last decade because of their promising applications. Recently, the discovery of N-doped holey graphene (NhG) with plentiful in plane holes and high N contents as the anode material has opened up exciting opportunities to improved electrochemical performance for the li-ion Battery applications. In this paper, we provide a bottom-up and economic solution-combustion synthesis route for the simple preparation of NhG. The nitrogen content, specific surface area (SSA) and pore size of the as-obtained NhG all increase with the increasing ratio between the oxidizer and fuel. With the increased nitrogen content and SSA, the prepared NhG exhibits higher capacity performance for lithium ion storage, especially for the prepared NhG4, gives rise to the highest initial reversible capacity 1354 mAh g(-1) at 0.2 A g(-1) as the carbon anode material. The detailed explanation of this "Bottom-up" route to prepare NhG is also provided for its extensive applications. (C) 2017 Published by Elsevier B.V.

Abstract:Nitrogen-doped (N-doped) graphene has been prepared by a simple one-step hydrothermal approach using hexamethylenetetramine (HMTA) as single carbon and nitrogen source. In this hydrothermal process, HMTA pyrolyzes at high temperature and the N-doped graphene subsequently self-assembles on the surface of MgO particles (formed by the Mg powder reacting with H2O) during which graphene synthesis and nitrogen doping are simultaneously achieved. The as-synthesized graphene with incorporation of nitrogen groups possesses unique structure including thin layer thickness, high surface area, mesopores and vacancies. These structural features and their synergistic effects could not only improve ions and electrons transportation with nanometer-scale diffusion distances but also promote the penetration of electrolyte. The N-doped graphene exhibits high reversible capacity, superior rate capability as well as long-term cycling stability, which demonstrate that the N-doped graphene with great potential to be an efficient electrode material. The experimental results provide a new hydrothermal route to synthesize N-doped graphene with potential application for advanced energy storage, as well as useful information to design new graphene materials.

Abstract:Monodisperse ultrathin SnO2 nanorods on nitrogen-doped graphene were firstly synthesized by a facile one-step hydrothermal strategy. The uniformed composites with high nitrogen content and ultrathin SnO2 nanorods of 2.5-4.0 nm in diameter and 10-15 nm in length show a high reversible specific capacity, superior rate capability and outstanding cycling stability (803 mA h g(-1)) as anode materials for lithium ion batteries, owing to the synergistic effect between GS and SnO2 and nitrogen-doping, which can greatly decrease the energy barrier for Li penetrating the pyridinic defects and improve the electronic structures. This work opens the door to prepare metal oxide/GS-N composites with superior lithium storage properties and engineering of graphene composites for advanced energy storage.
Bi2se0.5te2.5/S, N-Doped Reduced Graphene Oxide As Anode Materials for High-Performance Lithium Ion Batteries

Abstract:High energy density, power density and long cycle life are the ultimate goals of lithium ion batteries (LIBs) to meet the need of energy storage. However, it is still a challenge to achieve them at the same time. In this work, Bi2Se0.5Te2.5/S, N-doped reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanosheets composite has been synthesized by solvothermal method and investigated as anode materials for LIBs. The nanosheets are triumplantly fixed on rGO. Nitrogen doping can improve the electrical conductivity, while sulfur provide more active sites. The Bi2Se0.5Te2.5/S, N-rGO exhibits superior electrochemical performance. The specific discharge capacity of the Bi2Se0.5Te2.5/S, N-rGO composites at 100 mA g( -1) is 500 mAh g( -1)after 200 cycles, and which is still on the rise. Dynamics analysis clearly shows that the lithium storage of the as-prepared samples is on account of diffusion process, whose capacitive contribution reaches 92 % of the total charge storage at a scanning rate of 1.0 mV s(-1), and contributes to excellent cycling performance at high current densities. This work shows that Bi2Se0.5Te2.5 /S, N-rGO has broad application prospects in LIBs. (C) 2022 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:Enhancing the nitrogen (N) doping in carbon nanomateriaLs has been suggested as an effective approach to enhance the performance of Lithium ion batteries (LIBs). However, achieving N-doped carbon nanomateriaLs with an ultrahigh N content is still a great challenge, thus Limiting the capacity enhancement. Herein, we demonstrate a new procedure for the synthesis of unique sandwich architecture of N-doped carbon/reduced graphene oxide (N-carbon/rGO) derived from simple pyrolysis of a poLypyrroLe/GO nanosheet precursor. The N-carbon/rGO exhibits the highest N-doping of 15.4% reported in all the carbon-based nanomateriaLs, and a high specific surface area of 327 m(2) g(-1) with a micro/mesoporous structure. They combine the advantages of high conductivity of rGO, very high N-fuctionalities, and the porous structure of carbons, which endow them with appealing electrochemical Lithium storage properties with a high initial reversible capacity of 1100 mA h g(-1) at 100 mA g(-1), excellent rate capability up to 20 A g(-1), and superior cycling stability over 1000 cycles at a high current density of 1 A g(-1). The present work highlights the important role of tuning the nitrogen doping in enhancing the performance of LIBs.

Abstract:Nitrogen doping can provide a large number of active sites for lithium-ion storage, thus can yield a higher capacity for lithium-ion batteries. However, most of the reported N-doped graphene-based materials have low nitrogen content (<10 wt%) as the introduction of nitrogen atoms prefer to be produced at edges and defects in the graphene lattices. Owing to the formation of edges and defects, the doped states or active sites can easily be located and nitrogen contents can be determined precisely. Here we present the preparation of N-doped graphene nanoribbons with high nitrogen contents (11.8 wt%) and a facile tunable configuration of doped states. The material can be used as an anode for lithium-ion batteries and shows a higher capacity (the electrode has a reversible capacity of 1100.34 mA h g-1 at a charge/discharge rate of 100 mA g-1, corresponds to a discharge time of about 9 h), better rate performance (the electrode has a reversible capacity of 471 mA h g-1 at the current density of 2 A g-1, corresponds to a discharge time of about 11.6 min) and improved cycling stability (87.37% of the initial capacity after 200 cycles). The experimental results and first-principle calculations suggest that the residual oxygen-containing functional groups of N-doped graphene nanoribbons promote the formation of pyrrolic nitrogen at edges and substantially increase the room for nitrogen doping. This work opens new strategies for designing and developing N-doped graphene anodes for high performance lithium-ion batteries.
In Situ Synthesis of Ultrasmall SnO2 Quantum Dots on Nitrogen-Doped Reduced Graphene Oxide Composite As High Performance Anode Material for Lithium-Ion Batteries

Abstract:SnO2 is considered as one of the anode material for Li-ion batteries in terms of its superiority in high theoretical capacity (1494 mAh g(-1)), low cost and environmental friendly. However, it is suffered from several issues such as rapid capacity deterioration, undesirable aggregation of tin particles and pesky expansion of volume. To conquer these shortcomings, a novel composite of ultrasmall SnO2 quantum dots with an average particle size of 4-5 nm anchored on nitrogen-doped reduced graphene oxide (SnO2@NRGO) was first in situ synthesized By means of hydrothermal method. The results show that as-prepared SnO2@NRGO electrode exhibits a greater enhancement in its initial discharge capacity (1678.4 mAh g(-1)) and reversible capacity (1333.5 mAh g(-1) after 450 cycles) at a current density of 500 mA g(-1), implying a long cycle life. Furthermore, the high rate capability of SnO2@NRGO is superior to SnO2@RGO and SnO2 electrodes. The excellent electrochemical reversibility of SnO2@NRGO electrode can be ascribed to the great conductivity, ultrahigh specific surface area and the synergetic effect between ultrasmall SnO2 quantum dots and NRGO. Abstract:A novel binder-free reduced graphene oxide/silicon (RGO/Si) composite anode has been fabricated by a facile doctor-blade coating method. The relatively low C/O ratio plays an important role for the fabrication of the bind-free multilayered RGO/Si electrode with silicon nanoparticles encapsulating among the RGO sheet layers. The RGO provides the electron transport pathway and prevents the electrode fracture caused by the volume changes of active silicon particles during cycling. The RGO/Si composite anode with a silicon content of 66.7% delivers a reversible capacity of 1931 mAh g(-1) at 0.2 A g(-1) and still remains 92% of the initial capacity after 50 cycles.
