Abstract:Herein, a general strategy for the regioselective dearomative 1,2-hydrocyanoalkylation of chromium-bound (hetero)arenes with simple alkylnitriles as pronucleophiles was disclosed, providing rapid access to 1,3-cyclohexadienes possessing useful alkylnitrile groups. The versatility of this methodology further enabled a selective dearomative deuteration reaction. Finally, synthetic applications of the method in the formal synthesis of natural products, including erysotramidine, demethoxyerythratidinone, and morphine, were demonstrated.

Abstract:Branched-selective oxidative Heck coupling reactions have been developed between arylboronic acids and electronically unbiased terminal alkenes. The reactions exhibit high catalyst-controlled regioselectivity favoring the less common branched isomer. The reactions employ a catalyst composed of Pd(TFA)2/dmphen (TFA = trifluoroacetate, dmphen = 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline) and proceed efficiently at 45-60 °C under 1 atm of O2 without requiring other additives. A broad array of functional groups, including aryl halide, allyl silane and carboxylic acids are tolerated.

Abstract:A Cp*Rh-III-catalyzed annulative carbooxygenation of challenging 1,1-disubstituted alkenes triggered by C-H activation of N-aryloxyacetamides has been established, which affords 2,3-dihydrobenzofuran derivatives with a quaternary carbon center in good to excellent yields under mild redox-neutral conditions. An amide group on the alkenes is essential for the process, and may inhibit the beta-H elimination from C(sp3)-Rh species by saturating the rhodium center through coordination. Furthermore, mechanistic insights obtained from control experiments suggest a mechanism involving a Rh-III-Rh-V-Rh-III catalytic cycle.

Abstract:A palladium-catalyzed reaction of aryl iodide-tethered alkenes with homoallyl alcohol is reported, providing a convenient and efficient approach to C(sp3)-allylation product. The cascade process involves intramolecular Heck/retro-allylation. This new approach has good functional group compatibility, broad substrate scope and high efficiency. This domino reaction further proved that homoallyl alcohol is a convenient and efficient allylation source.

Abstract:An efficient and convenient rhodium(III)-catalyzed chelation-assisted ortho-selective carbon−hydrogen bond alkylation of phenols treated with readily available diazocarbonyl compounds as the alkyl source has been described. Migratory carbene insertion represents the principal step to realize this carbenoid coupling transformation, giving rise to a broad rang of alkylated products and at the same time, releasing nitrogen gas as sole byproduct. This protocol offers exclusive regioselectivities, moderate to excellent chemical yields, and good functional group tolerance.

Abstract:We developed the Ti‐catalyzed regioselective reductive coupling of readily available aldehydes and racemic propargyl bromides to rapidly access a wide range of α‐allenols. This method proceeds efficiently in a reductive radical‐polar crossover manner featuring mild conditions, excellent regioselectivity control, broad substrate scope, and eco‐friendliness. Preliminary mechanistic studies support the radical‐involved catalytic cycle. DFT calculations demonstrate that the regioselectivity is determined by the Zimmerman‐Traxler‐type transition states. Comprehensive Summary The direct reductive coupling of carbonyl compounds with propargyl halides is a powerful and reliable tool in the synthesis of α‐allenols. However, stoichiometric metal reductants, harsh reaction conditions and a variety of additional additives are required in the traditional strategies. Additionally, the reactivity and regioselectivity control remains an elusive challenge. Abstract:An oxyacetamide-directed Rh(III)-catalyzed Z-type alkenyl C–H functionalization through a rare exo-rhodacyle intermediate is described, forming multisubstituted dienes and allenes. A variety of alkenes and propargylic carbonate coupling partners are suitable for this transformation with high regio- and stereoselectivity. Abstract:A systematic theoretical study on the Rh-catalyzed oxidative Heck-coupling of phenol carbamates with alkenes is carried out. Two possible mechanisms (i.e. arene activation-first and alkene activation-first mechanisms) are examined. As to the C-H activation step, four mechanisms including oxidative addition, electrophilic substitution, concerted metallation-deprotonation (CMD), and σ-bond metathesis are evaluated. The calculation results indicate that the arene activation-first mechanism is more favorable for the overall catalytic cycle. This mechanism involves three steps: arene C-H activation at the position ortho to the carbamate directing group affording a six-membered rhodiacycle intermediate, insertion of the alkene double bond into the Rh(III)-aryl bond, and a final β-H elimination step to release the product and re-generate the catalyst. The rate determining step of the overall catalytic cycle is the arene C-H activation step, which is found to proceed through the acetate-assisted CMD mechanism.

Abstract:A deoxygenative radical alkylation of aromatic alkynes with alkyl aldehydes for the preparation of allylarenes has been successfully achieved. This transformation is accomplished through the reaction of alkyl aldehydes with alkynes in the presence of dipropylamine and Hantzsch ester catalyzed by a P/N heteroleptic Cu(I)-based photosensitizer under photoredox catalysis conditions. Preliminary mechanistic studies reveal that this aldehyde-alkyne coupling process comprises a regioselective radical addition of in situ-generated alkyl-substituted alpha-amino radicals to alkynes with subsequent 1,5-proton transfer, C-N bond cleavage, and concomitant isomerization of the resulting allyl radical species. Thus, in net result, dipropylamine serves as a traceless linker agent for the deoxygenative radical cross-coupling of alkyl aldehydes with alkynes under photoredox catalysis reaction conditions.

Here, we present an electrochemically mediat-ed, metal- and catalyst-free reductive Heck reaction that tolerates both unactivated (hetero)aryl halides and diverse al-kenes such as vinyl boronates. Detailed electrochemical and deuterium-labeling studies support that this transformation likely proceeds through a paired electrolysis pathway, in which acid generated by the oxidation of N,N-diisopropylethylamine (DIPEA) at the anode intercepts an alkyl carbanion formed after radical-polar crossover at the cathode. As such, this approach offers a sustainable method for the construction of Csp2–Csp3 bonds from (hetero)aryl halides and alkenes, paving the way for the development of other electrochemically mediated olefin difunctionalization reactions.
