Abstract:This paper presents a study on a dielectric loaded folded half loop antenna operating at UHF (Ultra High Frequency) band for DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcasting - Handheld) terminals. It is an optimisation of the folded half loop antenna proposed in our previous work. The proposed antenna has a 43% reduction in volume compared to the antenna proposed in our previous work. This design also eliminates the in-band second resonance present in the previous design. Due to the ground plane independency of the antenna it can be mounted on any type of ground plate, thus improving the adaptability to different terminal designs.

Abstract:A 3/2 curve fractal dipole antenna was proposed for radio-frequency identification application. with mirror and photonic hand gap structure. Sonic properties of the antenna. such as return loss and bandwidth have been simulated and investigated. The results show that the absolute bandwidths of antenna are up to 0.28 GHz and 0.41 GHz at 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz, respectively accordingly the relative bandwidths up to 9.76% and 6.87%. With a prototype fabricated, we also verified the good performance of the antenna through the comparison of measured and simulated results. (C) 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The antenna consists of three branches of folded monopoles, and it is designed to operate (it most application hands used currently, such as GSM 850/900/1800/1900, UMTS2100, and WLAN 5 GHz. A novel printed folded dipole antenna used for modern RFID system

Abstract:For the minimization of RFID tag antenna, we designed a printed folded dipole antenna working at 2.4 GHz. And a mirror compensation technology was introduced to improve the radiation feature of antenna with better return loss characteristic and directivity. The simulated results show that when VSWR (vertical standing wave ratio) is less than 2, the antenna bandwidth is up to 0.39 GHz absolutely and to 15.48% relatively. Considering engineering processes, the influences of dielectric constant, board thickness, folding degree and other parameters on the properties of this antenna are particularly studied. On the basis, a dual-frequency folded dipole antenna is proposed, which can work in two main frequency for RFID system, i.e. 915 MHz and 2.4 GHz. Moreover, an antenna sample made on this novel structure has been tested and the results show that the bandwidth of antenna is improved in further, along with hemisphere directional radiation characteristics.

Abstract:In this article, a new internal antenna with a Bi(Co)-substituted Z-type hexaferrite is presented for the digital video broadcasting-handheld (DVB-H) reception in folder-type mobile phones.Using meandered current path on a low-loss Z-type hexaferrite substrate, the proposed antenna can be designed with a significantly small volume of 0.69 cm3 yet meeting the requirements of an antenna for the DVB-H service. Approximately omnidirectional radiation characteristics are obtained. The measured return loss for the operating frequency over the DVB-H band is better than 3:1 VSWR. In addition, the maximum radiation efficiency of the antenna is 63.7% in this band. (C) 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A Reconfigurable Compact Antenna for DVBH Application

Abstract:Abstract- This paper presents a novel design of compact antenna that covers the frequency from 470MHz to 770MHz (DVBH application). The design is based on a monopole antenna and a reconfigurable matching network. The antenna has a dimension of 28.4x21.6x17.5 mm3. It is installed into a device with a volume of 115x74x16 mm3. The matching network consists of switches, capacitors and inductors, and can be reconfigured to eight schemes. Accordingly, the antenna can be dynamically tuned to eight different frequency bands within the whole band. These separate bands combine to cover the ISDB-T frequency range, with good antenna performance.

Abstract:A compact multiband antenna is proposed for mobile handheld devices. The antenna is composed of three-folded monopoles and they are fed by only a single excitation. The simulated and measured results show that the proposed antenna has achieved the exceptionally wide bandwidths from 1.69 to 2.50 GHz and 3 to 6 GHz in addition to GSM 850/900 applications, whereas the antenna still keeps small size and high efficiency. Abstract:In this letter, an internal folded reconfigurable loop antenna for mobile handset applications is designed, built, and tested. Two operating states with different frequencies are obtained by switching the shorting pins of the loop. The bandwidth of the proposed antenna has been increased by adopting a matching bridge. In a compact volume of 60×5×5 mm3, the proposed antenna operates in heptaband, including GSM850, GSM900, GPS, DCS, PCS, UMTS, and WLAN, with the return loss lower than 6 dB. The efficiency and gain with the p-i-n diodes with their bias circuit are also measured and analyzed.

Abstract:A novel compact quad‐band internal antenna for mobile handsets operating the GSM (880–960 MHz), GPS (1575 ± 10 MHz), DCS (1710–1880 MHz), and PCS (1850–1990 MHz) bands is proposed and implemented. The proposed antenna consists of a feeding strip, shorting strip, and folded loop radiating element with embedded tuning notches. Embedding the notches changes the current flow on the surface of the loop radiator so that the resonant frequencies can be controlled independently by their size and position. The measured impedance bandwidth (VSWR < 2) of the proposed antenna is 11.3% at GSM band and 27.4% at higher bands including GPS/DCS/PCS. The measured peak gains are 0.51, 2.06, 0.52, and 1.34 dBi, at the GSM, GPS, DCS, and PCS bands, respectively. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Wideband Circularly Polarized UHF Crossed Monopole Antenna with Unequal Power Feed for Handheld Terminals

Abstract:A wideband circularly polarized crossed monopole antenna for handheld terminals operating at UHF band is presented. Two quasi-orthogonal monopoles loaded with meandering lines of unequal end-length are employed for compact low-profile design. A feeding network composed of an unequal power divider and ${\text{90}}^{\circ}$ phase shifter is meant for achieving wide operating band and circularly polarized radiation. Moreover, the ground for the feeding networks also serves as half ground for the radiating part. With proper arrangement of the size of meandering lines and feeding network accordingly, the proposed antenna was finally designed as compact as 0.24 $\lambda$ $\times$ 0.20 $\lambda$ $\times$ 0.005 $\lambda$. Our measurements of a fabricated prototype confirm that the proposed antenna has an impedance bandwidth ($\boldsymbol {|S_{11}|}$ < $-$ 10 dB) of 30% and a 3 dB axial-ratio bandwidth of 17% around the center frequency 380 MHz, with stable radiation patterns and realized gain. Moreover, the antenna can be folded along the ground edge for potential space saving when it is unused.

Abstract:In this paper, a miniaturized printed dipole antenna with the V-shaped ground is proposed for radio frequency identification ( RFID) readers operating at the frequency of 2.45 GHz. The principles of the microstrip balun and the printed dipole are analyzed and design considerations are formulated. Through extending and shaping the ground to reduce the coupling between the balun and the dipole, the antenna's impedance bandwidth is broadened and the antenna's radiation pattern is improved. The 3D finite difference time domain ( FDTD) Electromagnetic simulations are carried out to evaluate the antenna's performance. The effects of the extending angle and the position of the ground are investigated to obtain the optimized parameters. The antenna was fabricated and measured in a microwave anechoic chamber. The results show that the proposed antenna achieves a broader impedance bandwidth, a higher forward radiation gain and a stronger suppression to backward radiation compared with the one without such a ground.

Abstract:A reconfigurable varactor-based matching circuit is proposed in this article. The introduction of an extra series inductor into the matching circuit reduces the required capacitance ratio of the varactor from 27.9 to 8.2. A meander line DVB-H antenna is designed and fabricated to verify the concept. The dimensions of the prototype antenna are 80 x 10 x 10 mm(3), and it can provide better than 10 dB return loss across the 470-770 MHz bandwidth. (C) 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Abstract:Hundred-megahertz bands are widely used in long/short-range communications, such as satellite service and walkie-talkies. Due to the wavelength exceeding 1 meter, most hundred-megahertz mobile antennas are long-external whips, which not only affect portability but also degrade mechanical strength. This work proposes the first foldable hundred-megahertz mobile antennas. Mobile terminals are mostly in standby mode, so eliminating external antennas in standby mode is beneficial for portability and strength. A segment of nitinol memory alloy is adhered to a flexible copper-clad laminate, constituting the foldable antenna branch. In standby mode, the antenna is completely hidden on side surface of the terminal under external force. In operational mode, release of the force allows the antenna to spring out quickly and exhibit high performance. The mechanical property of the nitinol alloy is analyzed. The proposed antenna operates at two frequencies, with the printed copper strip for 280 MHz and nitinol for 433.92 MHz. Classical doughnut-shaped patterns with the measured maximum gains of 1.1/1.8 dBi and out-of-roundnesses of 1.9/1.3 dB are obtained. The reflection coefficient is stable after folding 50~500 times, demonstrating robust mechanical performance and practical value. The proposed strategy offers a higher level of portability and operational convenience compared with traditional retractable solutions.

Abstract:A novel compact multi-antenna design suitable for MIMO handheld terminals is proposed. Three low profile antennas are integrated in a 42/spl times/42mm/sup 2/ FR4 substrate circuit board. The bandwidth is greater than 10%, the gain is about 2 dBi while the envelope correlation coefficient between antennas can reach as low as 0.19. Also the back radiation is suppressed through reasonable design.

Abstract:A textile bandwidth-enhanced half-mode substrate-integrated cavity (HMSIC) antenna based on embroidered shorting vias is designed. Based on the simulated results of the basic HMSIC antenna, two embroidered hollow posts with square cross-sections are added as shorting vias at the intersections of the zero-E traces of the TM210HM and TM020HM modes to shift the TM010HM-mode band to merge with the bands of the higher-order modes for bandwidth enhancement. A prototype is practically fabricated based on computerized embroidery techniques. Measurement results show that the prototype is of an expanded −10 dB impedance band of 4.87~6.17 GHz (23.5% fractional bandwidth), which fully covers the 5 GHz wireless local area network (WLAN) band. The simulated radiation efficiency and maximum gain of the proposed antenna are above 97% and 7.6 dBi, respectively. Furthermore, simulations and measurements prove its robust frequency response characteristic in the proximity of the human tissues or in bending conditions, and the simulations of the specific absorption rate (SAR) prove its electromagnetic safety on the human body.

Abstract:In this letter, a novel design of a stacked-patch triple-band antenna in both circular and linear polarizations that can be used on a handheld terminal for surveying and geo-informatics applications is presented. The inculcation of corner truncation and I-slot in both the lower and middle patches has achieved better impedance bandwidth and axial ratio at GPS L1, L2, and GSM 1800 resonant frequency bands. A prototype of the proposed design is fabricated, and its performance is verified in measurement.

Abstract:In this paper, a half-space covered antenna with horizontal right hand circular polarization (RHCP) property is presented, which is realized by perpendicular slot pairs cut on the outer conductors of one coaxial line; To cover the null of the radiation pattern in the boresight direction, we draw out the inner conductor of the antenna and make it into a helical shape. As a transition between the slot array and the helix structure, the semi-spherical outer conductor is also cut with slot pairs. It is noted that for air-ground communication, the attenuation of electromagnetic waves in horizontal plane is much larger than other directions and the greater the deviation from this plane, the smaller the attenuation. The presented antenna is designed to compensate the attenuation difference in different elevation angle. It has a bandwidth of 12.5% for return loss > 10 dB and has a bandwidth of 7.5% for axial ratio <; 3 dB.

Abstract:A compact multiband internal antenna for global system for mobile communication, digital cellular system, and wireless local area network services is proposed. The proposed antenna is composed of a multiple input and multiple output (MIMO) antenna and a dual‐band printed inverted F antenna. In particular, projected ground structure is adopted to improve isolation characteristic between the two elements of the MIMO antenna.
