Abstract:The sub-linear expectation space is a nonlinear expectation space having advantages of modeling the uncertainty of probability and distribution. In the sub-linear expectation space, we use capacity and sub-linear expectation to replace probability and expectation of classical probability theory. In this paper, the method of selecting subsequence is used to prove Marcinkiewicz’s strong law of large numbers under sub-linear expectation space. This result is a natural extension of the classical Marcinkiewicz’s strong law of large numbers to the case where the expectation is nonlinear. In addition, this paper also gives a theorem about convergence of a random series.

Abstract:The main achievement of this paper is the finding and proof of Central Limit Theorem (CLT, see Theorem 12) under the framework of sublinear expectation. Roughly speaking under some reasonable assumption, the random sequence $\{1/\sqrt {n}(X_{1}+\cdots +X_{n})\}_{i=1}^{\infty }$ converges in law to a nonlinear normal distribution, called G-normal distribution, where $\{X_{i}\}_{i=1}^{\infty }$ is an i.i.d. sequence under the sublinear expectation. It’s known that the framework of sublinear expectation provides a important role in situations that the probability measure itself has non-negligible uncertainties. Under such situation, this new CLT plays a similar role as the one of classical CLT. The classical CLT can be also directly obtained from this new CLT, since a linear expectation is a special case of sublinear expectations. A deep regularity estimate of 2nd order fully nonlinear parabolic PDE is applied to the proof of the CLT. This paper is originally exhibited in arXiv.(math.PR/0702358v1).

Abstract:In this paper, by establishing a Borel–Cantelli lemma for a capacity which is not necessarily continuous, and a link between a sequence of independent random variables under the sub-linear expectation and a sequence of independent random variables on ℝ∞ under a probability, we give the sufficient and necessary conditions of the strong law of large numbers for independent and identically distributed random variables under the sub-linear expectation, and the sufficient and necessary conditions for the convergence of an infinite series of independent random variables, without the assumption on the continuity of the capacities. A purely probabilistic proof of a weak law of large numbers is also given.

Abstract:We represent the exponential moment of the Brownian functionals under a nonlinear expectation according to the solution to a backward stochastic differential equation. As an application, we establish a large deviation principle of the Freidlin and Wentzell type under the corresponding nonlinear probability for diffusion processes with a small diffusion coefficient.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate two types of the conditional strong law of large numbers with a new notion of conditionally independent random variables under G-expectation which are related to the symmetry G-function. Our limit theorem demonstrates that the cluster points of empirical averages fall within the bounds of the lower and upper conditional expectations with lower probability one. Moreover, for conditionally independent random variables with identical conditional distributions, we show the existence of two cluster points of empirical averages that correspond to the essential minimum and essential maximum expectations, respectively, with G-capacity one.

Abstract:In this paper we study the weak laws of large numbers for sublinear expectation. We prove that, without any moment condition, the weak laws of large numbers hold in the sense of convergence in capacity induced by some general sublinear expectations. For some specific sublinear expectation, for instance, mean deviation functional and one-side moment coherent risk measure, we also give weak laws of large numbers for corresponding capacity.

Abstract:The classical law of the iterated logarithm (LIL for short)as fundamental limit theorems in probability theory play an important role in the development of probability theory and its applications. Strassen (1964) extended LIL to large classes of functional random variables, it is well known as the invariance principle for LIL which provide an extremely powerful tool in probability and statistical inference. But recently many phenomena show that the linearity of probability is a limit for applications, for example in finance, statistics. As while a nonlinear expectation--- G-expectation has attracted extensive attentions of mathematicians and economists, more and more people began to study the nature of the G-expectation space. A natural question is: Can the classical invariance principle for LIL be generalized under G-expectation space? This paper gives a positive answer. We present the invariance principle of G-Brownian motion for the law of the iterated logarithm under G-expectation.

Abstract:The sub-linear expectation or called G-expectation is a non-linear expectation having advantage of modeling non-additive probability problems and the volatility uncertainty in finance. Let $\{X_n;n\ge 1\}$ be a sequence of independent random variables in a sub-linear expectation space $(\Omega , \mathscr {H}, \widehat{\mathbb {E}})$. Denote $S_n=\sum _{k=1}^n X_k$ and $V_n^2=\sum _{k=1}^n X_k^2$. In this paper, a moderate deviation for self-normalized sums, that is, the asymptotic capacity of the event $\{S_n/V_n \ge x_n \}$ for $x_n=o(\sqrt{n})$, is found both for identically distributed random variables and independent but not necessarily identically distributed random variables. As an application, the self-normalized laws of the iterated logarithm are obtained. A Bernstein’s type inequality is also established for proving the law of the iterated logarithm.

Abstract:In this paper, under some weaker conditions, we give three laws of large numbers (LLNs) under sublinear expectations (capacities), which extend the LLN under sublinear expectations in Peng (2008b) and the strong LLN for capacities in Chen (2010). It turns out that these theorems are natural extensions of the classical strong (weak) LLNs to the case where probability measures are no longer additive.

Abstract:Limit theorems for non-additive probabilities or non-linear expectations are challenging issues which have attracted a lot of interest recently. The purpose of this paper is to study the strong law of large numbers and the law of the iterated logarithm for a sequence of random variables in a sub-linear expectation space under a concept of extended independence which is much weaker and easier to verify than the independence proposed by Peng [20]. We introduce a concept of extended negative dependence which is an extension of the kind of weak independence and the extended negative independence relative to classical probability that has appeared in the recent literature. Powerful tools such as moment inequality and Kolmogorov's exponential inequality are established for these kinds of extended negatively independent random variables, and these tools improve a lot upon those of Chen, Chen and Ng [1]. The strong law of large numbers and the law of iterated logarithm are also obtained by applying these inequalities.

It turns out that these theorems are natural and fairly neat extensions of the classical Kolmogorov’s strong law of large numbers to the case where probability measures are no longer additive. An important feature of these strong laws of large numbers is to provide a frequentist perspective on capacities.

Abstract:In this paper we study the problems of invariant and ergodic expectations under G-expectation framework. In particular, the stochastic differential equations driven by G-Brownian motion (G-SDEs) have the unique invariant and ergodic expectations. Moreover, the invariant and ergodic expectations of G-SDEs are also sublinear expectations. However, the invariant expectations may not coincide with the ergodic expectations, which is different from the classical case.

Abstract:We give a survey of the developments in the theory of Backward Stochastic Differential Equations during the last 20 years, including the solutions' existence and uniqueness, comparison theorem, nonlinear Feynman-Kac formula, g-expectation and many other important results in BSDE theory and their applications to dynamic pricing and hedging in an incomplete financial market.We also present our new framework of nonlinear expectation and its applications to financial risk measures under uncertainty of probability distributions. The generalized form of law of large numbers and central limit theorem under sublinear expectation shows that the limit distribution is a sublinear G normal distribution. A new type of Brownian motion, G-Brownian motion, is constructed which is a continuous stochastic process with independent and stationary increments under a sublinear expectation (or a nonlinear expectation). The corresponding robust version of ItO's calculus turns out to be a basic tool for problems of risk measures in finance and, more general, for decision theory under uncertainty. We also discuss a type of "fully nonlinear" BSDE under nonlinear expectation.

Abstract:Under the sublinear expectation $\mathbb{E}[\cdot]:=\mathop{\mathrm{sup}}_{\theta\in\Theta}E_{\theta}[\cdot]$ for a given set of linear expectations $\{E_{\theta}:\theta\in\Theta\}$, we establish a new law of large numbers and a new central limit theorem with rate of convergence. We present some interesting special cases and discuss a related statistical inference problem. We also give an approximation and a representation of the $G$-normal distribution, which was used as the limit in Peng’s (Law of large numbers and central limit theorem under nonlinear expectations (2007) Preprint) central limit theorem, in a probability space.
