Abstract:In this paper, we study a class of contracting flows of closed, convex hypersurfaces in the Euclidean space $${\mathbb {R}}^{n+1}$$ with speed $$r^{\alpha } \sigma _k$$, where $$\sigma _k$$ is the k-th elementary symmetric polynomial of the principal curvatures, $$\alpha \in {\mathbb {R}}^1$$, and r is the distance from the hypersurface to the origin. If $$\alpha \ge k+1$$, we prove that the flow exists for all time, preserves the convexity and converges smoothly after normalisation to a sphere centred at the origin. If $$\alpha <k+1$$, a counterexample is given for the above convergence. In the case $$k=1$$ and $$\alpha \ge 2$$, we also prove that the flow converges to a round point if the initial hypersurface is weakly mean-convex and star-shaped.

Abstract:In this paper we study a contracting flow of closed, convex hypersurfaces in the Euclidean space ℝ^n+1 with speed f r^α K, where K is the Gauss curvature, r is the distance from the hypersurface to the origin, and f is a positive and smooth function. If α≥ n+1, we prove that the flow exists for all time and converges smoothly after normalisation to a soliton, which is a sphere centred at the origin if f ≡ 1. Our argument provides a parabolic proof in the smooth category for the classical Aleksandrov problem, and resolves the dual q-Minkowski problem introduced by Huang, Lutwak, Yang and Zhang (Acta Math. 216 (2016): 325-388), for the case q<0. If α < n+1, corresponding to the case q>0, we also establish the same results for even function f and origin-symmetric initial condition, but for non-symmetric f, counterexample is given for the above smooth convergence.

Abstract:We consider a shrinking flow of smooth, closed, uniformly convex hypersurfaces in (n+1)-dimensional Euclidean space with speed fu^{alpha}{sigma}_n^{beta}, where u is the support function of the hypersurface, alpha, beta are two constants, and beta>0, sigma_n is the n-th symmetric polynomial of the principle curvature radii of the hypersurface. We prove that the flow has a unique smooth and uniformly convex solution for all time, and converges smoothly after normalisation, to a soliton which is a solution of an elliptic equation, when the constants alpha, beta belong to a suitable range, provided the initial hypersuface is origin-symmetric and f is a smooth positive even function on S^n. For the case alpha>= 1+n*beta, beta>0, we prove that the flow converges smoothly after normalisation to a unique smooth solution of an elliptic equation without any constraint on the initial hypersuface and smooth positive function f. When beta=1, our argument provides a uniform proof to the existence of the solutions to the equation of L_p Minkowski problem for p belongs to (-n-1,+infty).

Abstract:Let X be a smooth subvariety of CP^N. We study a flow, called balancing flow, on the space of projectively equivalent embeddings of X, which attempts to deform the given embedding into a balanced one. If L->X is an ample line bundle, considering embeddings via H^0(L^k) gives a sequence of balancing flows. We prove that, provided these flows are started at appropriate points, they converge to Calabi flow for as long as it exists. This result is the parabolic analogue of Donaldson's theorem relating balanced embeddings to metrics with constant scalar curvature [JDG 59(3):479-522, 2001]. In our proof we combine Donaldson's techniques with an asymptotic result of Liu-Ma [arXiv:math/0601260v2] which, as we explain, describes the asymptotic behaviour of the derivative of the map FS\circ Hilb whose fixed points are balanced metrics.

Abstract:Recently, Pipoli and Sinestrari [Pipoli, G. and Sinestrari, C., Mean curvature flow of pinched submanifolds of ℝℙ n , Comm. Anal. Geom. , 25 , 2017, 799–846] initiated the study of convergence problem for the mean curvature flow of small codimension in the complex projective space ℝℙ m . The purpose of this paper is to develop the work due to Pipoli and Sinestrari, and verify a new convergence theorem for the mean curvature flow of arbitrary codimension in the complex projective space. Namely, the authors prove that if the initial submanifold in ℝℙ m satisfies a suitable pinching condition, then the mean curvature flow converges to a round point in finite time, or converges to a totally geodesic submanifold as t → ∞. Consequently, they obtain a differentiable sphere theorem for submanifolds in the complex projective space.

Abstract:We study the modified $J$-flow introduced in [15], particularly the singularities of the flow using the Calabi symmetry. In [20], on toric manifolds the convergence of modified $J$-flow to the smooth solution was proven under the assumption of positivity of certain intersection numbers. In the case of the Calabi ansatz, we show that if some of those intersection numbers are not positive, then the modified $J$-flow blows up along some variety, and away from the variety we prove the convergence to the solution. As in [10], we also prove that the convergence behavior of the modified $J$-flow with Calabi symmetry depends on the topological constants $c$ and the minimum of the Hamiltonian function.

Abstract:We show the convergence of Kähler Ricci flow directly if the α -invariant of the canonical class is greater than n/n+1 . Applying these convergence theorems, we can give a Kähler Ricci flow proof of Calabi conjecture on such Fano manifolds. In particular, the existence of KE metrics on a lot of Fano surfaces can be proved by flow method. Note that this geometric conclusion (based on the same assumption) was established earlier via elliptic method by Tian (Invent. Math. 89(2):225–246, 1987 ; Invent. Math. 101(1):101–172, 1990 ; Invent. Math. 130:1–39, 1997 ). However, a new proof based on Kähler Ricci flow should be still interesting in its own right.

Abstract: We study some estimates along the Kahler Ricci flow on Fano manifolds. Using these estimates, we show the convergence of Kahler Ricci flow directly if the $\alpha$-invariant of the canonical class is greater than $\frac{n}{n+1}$. Abstract:In this paper, by using new auxiliary functions, we study a class of contracting flows of closed, star-shaped hypersurfaces in Rn+1 with speed rαβσk1β, where σk is the k-th elementary symmetric polynomial of the principal curvatures, α, β are positive constants and r is the distance from points on the hypersurface to the origin. We obtain convergence results under some assumptions of k, α, β. When k≥2, 0<β≤1, α≥β+k, we prove that the k-convex solution to the flow exists for all time and converges smoothly to a sphere after normalization, in particular, we generalize Li-Sheng-Wang's result from uniformly convex to k-convex. When k≥2, β=k, α≥2k, we prove that the k-convex solution to the flow exists for all time and converges smoothly to a sphere after normalization, in particular, we generalize Ling Xiao's result from k=2 to k≥2.

Abstract:We generalize the inverse Monge-Ampere flow, which was introduced by Collins, Hisamoto and Takahashi. We provide conditions that guarantee the convergence of the flow without a priori assumption that $X$ has a Kähler-Einstein metric. We also show that if the underlying manifold does not admit Kähler-Einstein metric, then the flow develops Nadel multiplier ideal sheaves. In addition, we establish the linear lower bound for $\inf_X\varphi$ under the additional assumption on the behavior of the volume form, and the theorem of Darvas and He for the inverse Monge-Ampere flow.

The natural flow and the critical exponent

Abstract:Inspired by work of Besson-Courtois-Gallot, we construct a flow called the natural flow on a nonpositively curved Riemannian manifold $M$. As with the natural map, the $k$-Jacobian of the natural flow is directly related to the critical exponent $\delta$ of the fundamental group. There are several applications of the natural flow that connect dynamical, geometrical, and topological invariants of the manifold. First, we give $k$-dimensional linear isoperimetric inequalities when $k > \delta$. This, in turn, produces lower bounds on the Cheeger constant. We resolve a recent conjecture of Dey-Kapovich on the non-existence of $k$-dimensional compact, complex subvarieties of complex hyperbolic manifolds with $2k > \delta$. We also provide upper bounds on the homological dimension, generalizing work of Kapovich and work of Farb with the first two authors. Using different methods, we also give upper bounds on the cohomological dimension which partially resolves a conjecture of Kapovich. We also specialize to the setting of locally symmetric manifolds where we further refine our work. Finally, we introduce a new growth condition on the Bowen-Margulis measure that we call uniformly exponentially bounded that we connect to the cohomological dimension and which could be of independent interest.

K\"ahler Ricci Flow on Fano Manifolds(i)

Abstract:We study the evolution of anticanonical line bundles along the K\ahler Ricci flow. We show that under some conditions, the convergence of K\ahler Ricci flow is determined by the properties of the anticanonical divisors of $M$. As examples, the K\ahler Ricci flow on $M$ converges when $M$ is a Fano surface and $c_1^2(M)=1$ or $c_1^2(M)=3$. Combined with the work in \cite{CW1} and \cite{CW2}, this gives a Ricci flow proof of the Calabi conjecture on Fano surfaces with reductive automorphism groups. The original proof of this conjecture is due to Gang Tian.

We prove that the flow has a unique smooth and uniformly convex solution for all time, and converges smoothly after normalisation, to a soliton which is a solution of a elliptic equation, when the constants alpha, beta belong to a suitable range, and the function f satisfies a strictly spherical convexity condition. When beta=1, the soliton equation is just the equation of Lp Christoffel-Minkowski problem. Thus our argument provides a proof to the well-known L_p Christoffel-Minkowski problem for the case p>= k+1 where p=2-alpha, which is identify with Ivaki's recent result.

Solving the cohomological equation for locally hamiltonian flows, part II -- global obstructions

Abstract:Continuing the research initiated in \cite{Fr-Ki2}, we study the existence of solutions and their regularity for the cohomological equations $X u=f$ for locally Hamiltonian flows (determined by the vector field $X$) on a compact surface $M$ of genus $g\geq 1$. We move beyond the case studied so far by Forni in \cite{Fo1,Fo3}, when the flow is minimal over the entire surface and the function $f$ satisfies some Sobolev regularity conditions. We deal with the flow restricted to any its minimal component and any smooth function $f$ whenever the flow satisfies the Full Filtration Diophantine Condition (FFDC) (this is a full measure condition). The main goal of this article is to quantify optimal regularity of solutions. For this purpose we construct a family of invariant distributions $\mathfrak{F}_{\bar t}$, $\bar{t}\in\mathscr{TF}^*$ that play the roles of the Forni's invariant distributions introduced in \cite{Fo1,Fo3} by using the language of translation surfaces. The distributions $\mathfrak{F}_{\bar t}$ are global in nature (as emphasized in the title of the article), unlike the distributions $\mathfrak{d}^k_{\sigma,j}$, $(\sigma,k,j)\in\mathscr{TD}$ and $\mathfrak{C}^k_{\sigma,l}$, $(\sigma,k,l)\in\mathscr{TC}$ introduced in \cite{Fr-Ki2}, which are defined locally. All three families are used to determine the optimal regularity of the solutions for the cohomological equation, see Theorem 1.1 and 1.2. As a by-product, we also obtained, interesting in itself, a spectral result (Theorem 1.3) for the Kontsevich-Zorich cocycle acting on functional spaces arising naturally at the transition to the first-return map.

Abstract:We prove that if the initial hypersurface of the mean curvature flow in spheres satisfies a sharp pinching condition, then the solution of the flow converges to a round point or a totally geodesic sphere. Our result improves the famous convergence theorem due to Huisken [9]. Moreover, we prove a convergence theorem under the weakly pinching condition. In particular, we obtain a classification theorem for weakly pinched hypersurfaces. It should be emphasized that our pinching condition implies that the Ricci curvature of the initial hypersurface is positive, but does not imply positivity of the sectional curvature.

Abstract:We investigate the global dynamics from a measure-theoretic perspective for smooth flows with invariant cones of rank k. For such systems, it is shown that prevalent (or equivalently, almost all) orbits will be pseudo-ordered or convergent to equilibria. This reduces to Hirsch's prevalent convergence Theorem if the rank k=1; and implies an almost-sure Poincare-Bendixson Theorem for the case k=2. These results are then applied to obtain an almost sure Poincare-Bendixson theorem for high-dimensional differential equations.

Abstract:In this paper, we observe a set of functionals of metrics which are all decrease under the Calabi flow and have uniform lower bound along the flow, which give rise to a set of integral estimates on the curvature flow. Using these estimates, together with weak compactness we obtained in previous papers [8] and [10], we prove the long term existence and convergence of the Calabi flow. Thus give a new proof to Chruscial's theorem. The set of simple ideas of global integral estimates and concentration compactness should have further implications in other heat flow problems.
