Abstract:A new anti-disturbance control scheme is proposed for a class of nonlinear systems subjected to multi-source disturbances. The uncertain multi-source disturbances are classified into two parts; one is the harmonic and constant disturbance with partial known information, which can be formulated by an exogenous system, and the other consists of unknown time-varying disturbances. The nonlinear disturbance observer (NDO) is constructed to estimate the first kind of disturbance. By integrating the NDO with an adaptive backstepping technique, a novel composite anti-disturbance control scheme is proposed for the nonlinear systems. Then the stability analysis of the closed-loop system is presented. The simulation of a numerical example is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed results.

Abstract:In engineering, there exist lots of nonlinear disturbance dynamics, which can be described by nonlinear exogenous systems. The current stochastic linear disturbance observer is conservative and is not applicable for nonlinear disturbance dynamics. This paper studies a class of stochastic systems with multiple disturbances, including white noise and disturbances modelled by a nonlinear exogenous system. To estimate the disturbance with nonlinear dynamics, a stochastic nonlinear disturbance observer is proposed. Based on the observer, a nonlinear disturbance observer-based disturbance attenuation control (NDOBDAC) scheme is constructed such that the composite closed-loop system is asymptotically mean-square bounded. According to the simulation example, the state responses of the system diverge in the absence of control, but it tends to be [Formula: see text] under NDOBDAC, which demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed scheme. In addition, the anti-disturbance control accuracy of NDOBDAC approximately improves [Formula: see text] times compared with [Formula: see text] control and active disturbance rejection control (ADRC). The simulation results demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

Abstract:A new elegant anti-disturbance control and estimation strategy is presented for a class of nonlinear systems subject to multiple disturbances. As a class of strong-coupled nonlinear systems, the models have measurement error, friction, varying load, and unmodelled dynamics, which can be characterized as two types of disturbances in this framework. One is supposed to be generated by an exogenous system with uncertainty, which represents the disturbance with partial known information. The other is a bounded external disturbance in the H-2-norm. The nonlinear robust disturbance observer (DO) based on regional pole placement theory is constructed separately from the controller design to estimate and reject the first type of disturbance, and terminal sliding-mode (TSM) control is used to attenuate the second type of disturbance. By integrating the nonlinear robust DO with TSM control, a new elegant anti-disturbance control scheme based on a robust DO is proposed for a kind of nonlinear system, which can further improve the ability of anti-disturbance for nonlinear systems. Simulations are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:This paper proposes an innovative composite anti-disturbance asymptotic tracking control strategy for a class of nonlinear non-strict feedback systems facing unknown nonlinearities and external disturbances. Based on the separation principle, a new adaptive learning disturbance observer (ALDO) is first introduced, designed to accurately estimate the unknown nonlinear dynamics and time-varying disturbances within the system. This ALDO possesses online learning capabilities, enabling it to estimate the unknown upper bound of the disturbance derivative in real time, thus significantly reducing reliance on prior knowledge of the disturbance derivative and ensuring finite-time stability of the disturbance estimation error system. Furthermore, utilizing adaptive backstepping technology, a virtual controller is designed to compensate for mismatching disturbances within the closed-loop system. Additionally, a composite controller is developed to effectively compensate for disturbances and guarantee asymptotic convergence of the tracking control error to zero while maintaining signal boundedness within the system. Finally, the effectiveness and practicality of this control strategy are verified through a practical application case involving an electromechanical system. Note to Practitioners —This article investigates a class of nonlinear non-strict feedback systems affected by multi-disturbances, where the unknown nonlinear dynamics are functions of the full-state variable, rendering traditional adaptive methods inapplicable due to the potential for the algebraic loop problem. In complex engineering environments, where various external disturbances adversely impact system stability and performance, and prior knowledge of such disturbances is elusive, the disturbance observer-based composite control strategy explored in this paper stands out as crucial. The proposed strategy adeptly mitigates or eliminates disturbances via feedforward and feedback channels, enabling asymptotic tracking of the system while safeguarding its stable performance and reliability, holding promising applications in engineering domains like power systems, robot control, and traffic signal systems.

Abstract:Anti-disturbance control problem is studied for a class of nonlinear strict-feedback systems with disturbances. The system disturbances satisfy mismatched condition and represent a class of disturbances with partially-known information. By designing a nonlinear disturbance observer, the nonlinear disturbance observer plus back-stepping(NDOPBS) control strategy is proposed to compensate the disturbances. It is proved that all the signals in the closed-loop system are semi-global uniformly ultimate bounded(SGUUB). Finally, the numerical simulation result demonstrates the correctness and effectiveness of the proposed approach by the comparison with existing methods.

Abstract:This paper presents a design method of nonlinear disturbance observer based control (NLDOBC) for a class of nonlinear systems with the disturbance modeled by the nonlinear exosystem. First, the virtual disturbance measurement output is defined. Then, a NLDOBC scheme is constructed to estimate and compensate the modeled disturbance. Subsequently, an linear matrix inequality (LMI)-based design method of NLDOBC is developed such that the augmented system is exponentially stable and then the original closed-loop system is exponentially stable in the presence of the modeled disturbance. Finally, some simulation results are given to show its effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:SummaryThis paper addresses the problems of disturbance estimation and anti‐disturbance control for nonlinear system with exogenous disturbance, which is generated from an unknown exogenous system. The state observer and the adaptive disturbance observer are designed, simultaneously. Compared with the existing methods, which assumed that the exogenous system parameter matrix was known, our disturbance observer is more applicable in practice. Utilizing the estimation information, an observer‐based dynamic output feedback controller is designed, which avoids the influence of output disturbance on the closed‐loop system, and contains a disturbance compensation term to compensate the input disturbance. Abstract:This paper discusses a novel adaptive disturbance observer (ADO) for systems subjected to bounded disturbances. The gains with adaptation are given, and the estimate error of the disturbance is guaranteed to be ultimately stable. The proposed ADO is capable of achieving a better dynamic performance compared with the standard linear DO. As a trade-off, it outperforms other DOs and reduces the control burden simultaneously. Moreover, the ADO has a simpler structure than the nonlinear DO because of its linear representation. Simulation results verifies the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed approach, and application to the attitude tracking for the hypersonic reentry vehicle (HRV) is also presented.

A stochastic adaptive disturbance observer is constructed to estimate the disturbance which can be generated by a linear exogenous system with unknown parameter, and it can represent unknown frequency, amplitude and initial phase. Based on this, a disturbance observer-based anti-disturbance control scheme is proposed by combining adaptive control and stochastic control. It is guarantee that all the signals in the composite system are asymptotically bounded in mean square. Finally, simulation example is given to demonstrate the correctness and effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:This paper proposes a high gain disturbance observer based control approach for nonlinear systems. Compared with previous works, it can admit a much larger class of disturbances produced by nonlinear exo-systems. Our approach will follow the framework of the two-stage design procedure, which separates the disturbance observer design from the controller design. Under certain conditions, the observer error for the disturbances generated by nonlinear exo-systems globally and asymptotically converges on zero and the stability of the closed-loop system is guaranteed. An illustrative example of a two-link robot manipulator with limit cycles disturbance is presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:In this paper, an adaptive observer control is proposed for a class of uncertain chaotic systems. Because the system states are assumed to be unavailable, an observer is designed to estimate those unavailable states. The main advantage of this algorithm can overcome the problem of "explosion of complexity" inherent in the backstepping design. The stability analysis shows that the system is stable in the sense that all signals in the closed-loop system are uniformly ultimately bounded (GUUB) and the system output can track the reference signal to a bounded compact set. Finally, an example is provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed control system.

Abstract:An anti-disturbance control problem is investigated in this paper. The disturbance observer plus back-stepping (DOPBS) control scheme is proposed for a class of strict-feedback nonlinear systems with derivative-bounded disturbances. A nonlinear disturbance observer is designed to estimate the derivative-bounded disturbances. By combining the disturbance observer with back-stepping method, the DOPBS controller is designed to reject and attenuate the disturbances. Stability analysis proves that all the signals in the the closed-loop system are uniformly ultimately bounded (UUB). Finally, simulation examples demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed approach compared with existing methods.

Abstract:A novel type of control scheme is proposed for a class of nonlinear systems subject to disturbance. The disturbance is generated by an exogenous system with uncertainty, which can represent the harmonic signals with modeling perturbations. A nonlinear disturbance observer is constructed for the estimation of the disturbance. The effectiveness of the method depends on the characteristics of external additional disturbance δ(t) which result from the perturbations and uncertainties in the exogenous system. More precisely, the assumptions of δ(t) ∈ L2[0, ∞) and/or δ(t) ∈ L∞[0, ∞) can result in different consequents. Numerical simulations are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control schemes.

Abstract:The existing nonlinear disturbance observer based control (NDOBC) is only applicable for the systems whose disturbance relative degree is higher than or equal to the input relative degree. The disturbance attenuation problem of nonlinear systems with arbitrary disturbance relative degree is presented in this paper via a novel NDOBC approach. A systematic method is proposed to design the disturbance compensation gain. It is shown that the disturbance can be eliminated from the output channel in steady-state with the proposed method. The input-to-state stability of the closed-loop system is also investigated rigorously by regarding the disturbance as the input of the augmented system. Simulation example of a missile demonstrates that the proposed method provides an effective way in rejecting disturbances with arbitrary disturbance relative degree.

Abstract:The stabilization problem is investigated in this paper for a class of nonlinear systems with disturbances. The disturbances are supposed to be classified into two types. One type in the input channel is generated by an exogenous system, which can represent the constant or harmonic signals with unknown phase and magnitude. The other type is stochastic disturbance. Two kinds of nonlinear dynamics in the plants are considered, respectively, which correspond to the known and unknown functions. By integrating the disturbance observers with conventional control method, the first type of disturbances can be estimated and rejected. Simultaneously, the desired dynamic performances can be guaranteed. An example is given to show the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.
