Abstract:Co-firing behavior of composite materials, consisting of BaTiO3 and MgCuZn ferrite, with both capacitance and inductance was studied by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermomechanical analysis (TMA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS) techniques. XRD data indicated composites were consisted of BaTiO3 phase and MgCuZn ferrite phase, and no other phases were detected. Co-firing behavior studies revealed that there are different shrinkage and shrinkage rate for BaTiO 3 and MgCuZn ferrite, respectively. All kinds of drawbacks such as crack, delamination and inner stress would happen by directly co-sintering multilayer BaTiO3 and MgCuZn together to form a monolithic structure due to co-firing mismatch. BaTiO3 and MgCuZn ferrite materials were combined to be composite materials that could be realized better co-firing by processing modification and control. Microstructure revealed that the average grain size of composites is smaller than 2 μm, which is much better for manufacture of integrated electronic devices such as integrated LC filters.
