Abstract:A new rhodamine-based derivative (1) is designed as a colorimetric and fluorescent “off–on” chemosensor for Cr3+ in aqueous solutions. Its sensing behaviors toward metal ions in neutral aqueous solutions were investigated by UV–vis absorption and fluorescence spectroscopies. Compound 1 is found to exhibit a significant increase in absorbance at 581nm and an amplified fluorescence at 600nm toward Cr3+ in a preferential, sensitive and rapid manner. Upon addition of Cr3+, the spirolactam ring (colorless and nonfluorescent) of 1 was opened to form a ring-opened amide (purple red color and fluorescent) and a 1:1 stoichiometry for the 1-Cr3+ complex was formed with an association constant of 5.75×104M−1. The quantification of Cr3+ by 1 using a fluorescence spectroscopy method was satisfactory in the linear working range below 4μM, with a detection limit of 3.75×10–9M for Cr3+ and good tolerance of other metal ions. The chemosensor has been used for imaging of Cr3+ in living Hela cells with satisfying results.

Abstract:In this paper, a new kind of colorimetric chemsensor aiming at detecting Cr 3+ has been synthesized, and it is based on the “Off-On” effect of a rhodamine derivative. Comparing with other metal irons (Na + , K + , Ni 2+ , Hg 2+ , Fe 3+ , Mn 2+ , Co 2+ , Cd 2+ , Cu 2+ , Pb 2+ , Zn 2+ , Mg 2+ , Ba 2+ , Ag + , Fe 2+ , Ce 3+ ), the chemsensor has a quick and accurate response to Cr 3+ in H 2 O-EtOH solution (4/1, v /v). There is an obvious change in color, from colorless to bright pink when Cr 3+ is detected. According to the fitting curve based on Benesi-Hildebrand equation and working curve of absorption strength in UV-vis spectrum, the binding pattern of Cr 3+ and the rhodamine derivative follows a 1:1 stoichiometry. The chemsensor shows great potential in monitoring Cr 3+ in the aqueous medium with high efficiency, which is supposed to complete the recognition in the minimum as 5.2 × 10 −7 mol/L within 5 min.

Abstract:A multisignal sensor based on rhodamine B with a ferrocene substituent (FD7) has been developed as a highly sensitive chemosensor for Cr3+. A prominent fluorescence enhancement was found in the presence of Cr3+, which was accompanied by changes in the absorption spectrum and the electrochemical parameters. Furthermore, by means of confocal laser scanning microscopy experiments, it has been demonstrated that FD7 can be used as a fluorescent probe for monitoring Cr3+ in living cells.

Abstract:A trivalent chromium (Cr3+) fluorescence probe (RhC) was designed and synthesized via Schiff base reaction based on rhodamine–crown ether conjugate. This probe displayed a favorable selectivity for Cr3+ over a range of other common metal ions in DMF/H2O (3:7, v/v; PBS buffer 50mmolL−1; pH=6.8) solution, leading to prominent fluorescence “OFF–ON” switching of the rhodamine fluorophore. The limit of detection was calculated to be 1.5μmolL−1 (S/N=3). The binding ratio of RhC–Cr3+ complex was determined to be 1:2 according to the Job's plot and HR-MS. The probe was successfully applied to examination of Cr3+ in drinking water spiked samples. The average recoveries ranged from 104.9% to 106.9% at spiked concentration level of 10.00μmolL−1, and the obtained results were consistent with those obtained using atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS). Moreover, bioimaging experiments showed that RhC can sense the Cr3+ in living cells with a fluorescence enhancement signal.

Abstract:A new fluorescent probe RH-Fe based on rhodamine B lactam was developed as a colorimetric and fluorescent chemosensor for Fe3+. The optical feature of RH-Fe for Fe3+ was investigated using UV-vis absorption and fluorescence emission spectroscopy. Upon the addition of Fe3+, the RH-Fe displayed a distinct color change from colorless to pink and a significant fluorescence enhancement, which can be directly detected by the naked eye. The stoichiometry of RH-Fe to Fe3+ complex was found to be 1 : 1 and the detection limit was determined to be as low as 0.27 mM. The results suggest that the RH-Fe probe may provide a convenient method for the visual detection of Fe3+ with high sensitivity.

Abstract:A fluorescent sensor for Fe3+, 2-[3′,6′-bis(ethylamino)-2′,7′-dimethyl-3-oxospiro[1H-isoindole-1,9′-[9H]xanthen]-2-((2-aminoethyl) methyl)]phenol, has been synthesized and characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR and X-ray crystallography. The photophysical processes of the Fe3+-sensor have been carefully investigated by fluorescence and absorbance spectra. Upon addition of Fe3+, the sensor shows strong fluorescence change with absorbance and emission peaks at 530 and 554nm, respectively. Other metal ions have no such response.

Abstract:A rhodamine-based sensor（1） has been developed for the detection of chromium ions.Cr 3+ -induced opening of the rhodamine spirocycle in sensor（1） led to the distinct colorimetric and fluorescence responses.Among all the tested ions,only Cr 3+ generated a significant fluorescence enhancement of up to13-fold,which indicated the high selectivity of 1.Sensor（1） was successfully applied in the in vivo fluorescence imaging of Cr 3+ in C.elegans.The results provided solid evidences for the future estimation of Cr 3+ in environmental applications and tobacco samples.

Abstract:A new double Schiff base, carbazole, and diaminomaleonitrile-based chemosensor for Fe3+ with high sensitivity and selectivity was designed and synthesized. Addition of only Fe3+ ions induced the fluorescence quenching of the chemosensor in DMF solution. The chemosensor formed a 1:1 complex with Fe3+ with the high binding constant of 7.98·10–6 M–1. The chemosensor displayed low detection limit (3.75·10–8 M) and fast response time (15 s) to Fe3+.

Abstract:Three chemosensors DN1, DN2 and DN3, incorporating dansyl dye as a fluorophore and various carboxhydrazones as ionophores, are reported. DN1 contains a pyridine-carboxhydrazone tridentate coordination site, forming a 2: 1 stoichiometric complexation species with Cr3+, and exhibits selectivity for Cr3+ over alkali and alkaline earth metals and most first-row transition metals in aqueous media. DN1 displays high quantum yield (Phi = 0.86) and fluorescence enhancement following Cr3+ coordination within a wide pH range. DN2 contains a 8-hydroxyquinoline-carboxhydrazone tetradentate metal-binding moiety, forming a 1:1 complex with Cr3+. DN2 also exhibits significantly fluorescence enhancement but a much lower quantum yield following Cr3+ binding in aqueous solution. In contrast, their congener DN3, having a salicyl-carboxhydrazone tridentate binding site, does not exhibit any significant fluorescence variation following Cr3+ binding. These results demonstrate that the hydroxyl group is an important factor influencing the fluorescence response to Cr3+ in aqueous media.

Abstract:A rhodamine derivative bearing a thiazole receptor (probe 1) was developed and characterized. Probe 1 rendered a prominently chromogenic and turn-on fluorescent signal toward Fe3+ ion in aqueous media based on coordination reaction. Probe 1 also showed high sensitivity toward Fe3+ ion with the detection limit as low as 92nM. By means of the Job's plot, 2:1 binding mode of 1-Fe3+ complex was determined and a possible sensing mechanism was further proposed based on the changes in the Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) and mass spectra. The turn-on fluorescence and sensing mechanism for 1-Fe3+ complex were well demonstrated by theoretical calculations. Importantly, probe 1 has been tested highly suitable for mapping Fe3+ ion in human colon cancer cells SW480, providing a wonderful candidate for tracking Fe3+ in biological processes.

Abstract:In this study, we synthesized a fluorescent material by modifying the C-2 amino group of carboxymethyl chitosan with a rhodamine B derivative, which was proposed and demonstrated using 1H NMR and FT-IR measurements. A series of experiments including selectivity, sensitivity, reversibility, pH, and water content were conducted to investigate the fluorometric and colorimetric properties of the grafted polymer. Utilizing a Fe3+-induced ring-opening mechanism of the rhodamine B spirolactam, we found that the grafted polymer exhibited a highly selective fluorescence response to Fe3+, with enhanced fluorescence at 583 nm compared to other tested metal ions and anions, accompanied by the characteristic absorption peak of rhodamine B that appeared at 561 nm with a noticeable color change from colorless to pink, facilitating visual observation. Additionally, the modified probe, composed of carboxymethyl chitosan, was easily regenerated through treatment with EDTA.

Abstract:A rhodamine-2-thioxoquinazolin-4-one derivative (R1) has been synthesized by an addition-elimination reaction of rhodamine 6G ethylenediamine with methyl 2-isothiocyanatobenzoate, which exhibits high selectivity and sensitivity as a fluorescent sensor toward Fe3+ under physiological conditions. Moreover, R1 could sense Fe3+ by "naked eye" with a color change from colorless to yellow. To test the practical use of the probe, the determination of Fe3+ in real water samples was evaluated. The application of the fluorescent sensor in monitoring intracellular Fe3+ in glioma cell line U251 has also been demonstrated. In addition, single crystal structures of R1 center dot 1 center dot 5H(2)O center dot 0 center dot 5CH(3)CN, as well as the possible intermediate of R1 with Ag+ and Hg2+ ions were reported.
