Abstract:A compact quality factor (Q)-enhanced bandpass filter based on the electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT)-like effect between two-ring resonators was proposed and experimental demonstrated. The enhancement in Q can be 2-3 orders of magnitude compared to the single ring bandpass filter, and a 27 times enhanced bandpass filter with a bandwidth of approximately 4.8 GHz was successfully realized. A downconversion analog photonic link (APL) based on the proposed filter has been presented and the spurious free dynamic range of the link was as high as 103.9 dB-Hz(2/3). Abstract:In this article, a tunable four-stage high-intermediate-frequency (IF) bandpass filter (BPF) chip using inductors with a $Q$ compensation digital resistor array (QCDRA) is presented. The high-IF BPF intends to filter out-of-band spurs and distortions for radio frequency analog-to-digital converter (RF-ADC) or RF digital-to-analog converter (RF-DAC), which leverages programmable $Q$ -enhanced inductors to achieve ultrawide programmable bandwidth. The fabricated filter center frequency can be programed from 1.3 to 1.7 GHz with a 50-MHz resolution, which also supports a tunable signal passband from 25 to 1000 MHz with 25-MHz frequency step, equivalent to a 1.5%–67% tunable fractional bandwidth when centering at 1.5 GHz. The BPF exhibits $<$ 50-ns signal bandwidth program settling time, suitable for agile radio applications. To ensure an accurate filtering, a three-point calibration scheme is proposed to auto-calibrate filter response due to temperature variations. The high-IF BPF chip is fabricated in a 65-nm bulk CMOS process with 80-mA current consumption, which achieves a 150.94-dB normalized dynamic range (DR). To the authors’ best knowledge, this high-IF BPF has demonstrated the widest fractional bandwidth programmability.

Abstract:A tunable four stage active RF band-pass filter (BPF) adopting Q-enhanced technique is presented in this paper. The center frequency can be programmed from 1.3 to 1.7 GHz with 50 MHz resolution. The proposed BPF can also support a tunable signal passband from 25 to 1000 MHz with 25 MHz tuning step, equivalent to a 1.5-67% tunable fractional bandwidth when centering at 1.5 GHz. The RF BPF achieves 148.4 dB normalized dynamic range (DR). The chip is fabricated in a standard 65 nm CMOS process with 80 mA current consumption. To the authors' best knowledge, this RF BPF has demonstrated the widest fractional bandwidth programmability.

Abstract:Abstract A compact box-section wideband bandpass filter with improved frequency selectivity is presented, and good performance has been achieved. The proposed bandpass filter consists of four folded stepped-impedance resonators that shared a common grounded via-hole. Mixed electric and magnetic coupling is introduced in the proposed filter to generate an extra transmission zero near the passband for sharp frequency selectivity. By adjusting the strength of the mixed electric and magnetic coupling, the location of the extra transmission zero can be controlled. A new filter with 31.4% fractional bandwidth has been designed and fabricated to verify the validity of the proposed method. Measured results are in good agreement with the electromagnetic simulation.

Abstract:A compact wide-band bandpass fllter (BPF) with high frequency selectivity using stepped impedance resonators (SIRs) is presented in this paper. The proposed BPF consists of four SIRs, which share a common grounded via-hole. To improve the frequency selectivity, multiple transmission zeros (TZs) are employed in the stopband by mixed electric/magnetic (EM) coupling. The novel fllter with 32.2% fractional bandwidth (FBW) has been designed and fabricated to verify the validity of the proposed method. Measured results are in good agreement with the electromagnetic simulation. The measured results show three flnite transmission zeros in the stopband, located at 2.47GHz, 5.26GHz, 9.39GHz, respectively. The circuit size of proposed BPF only occupies 3:10 £ 13:30mm 2 .

Abstract:A compact bandpass filter (BPF) with improved stopband performance using mixed electric/magnetic (E/M) coupling and Source-Load (S-L) coupling is presented. Due to the cancelling effect of the mixed coupling, a transmission zero (TZs) is employed near the passband. The design is implemented to a circular structure to achieve compact size. For realizing wide stopband characteristic, an extra transmission zero is achieved in the upper stopband owing to the S-L coupling introduced between the input and output port. A new filter centered at 1.08 GHz has been analyzed, simulated and fabricated to verify the validity of the proposed method. The measured results show that there are three finite transmission zeros near the passband, which are located at 0.78 GHz with 53.8 dB rejection, 1.86 GHz with 67.6 dB rejection, 3.01 GHz with 53.6 dB rejection, respectively. The out-of-band rejection better than 30 dB is up to 6 GHz. And the circuit only occupies 13.5×11.5 mm2.

Abstract:This paper proposes a compact microstrip bandpass filter (BPF) with high selectivity. A folded stepped-impedance resonator (SIR) of which the high impedance part is realized by a coplanar waveguide on the ground layer is introduced to the filter design for miniaturization. Furthermore, source-load coupling is implemented by extended tapped lines (ETL5). High selectivity with four transmission zeros (TZs) can be achieved. The analysis of the filter is presented based on a transmission line circuit model and even- and odd-mode analysis method. An experimental filter with the size of 0.15 lambda(g) * 0.13 lambda(g) (where lambda(g) is the guide wave-length at the center frequency) is designed to validate our methods.

Abstract:In this article, based on the integrated passive device (IPD) technology with GaAs substrate, an elliptical bandpass filter (BPF) is proposed with a reasonable and compact layout. Within the operating frequency of 4.27-4.9 GHz, the proposed design has an insertion loss of less than 1 dB. This miniaturized filter, with the size of about 1.32mm 2 , is fabricated using IPD technology. Probes on the wafer and the vector network analyzer are used to obtain its accurate S-parameters. The measurement result of this BPF is in good agreement with its simulation. That demonstrates the high frequency selectivity of the designed filter and shows its capability of using in modern communication technology.

Abstract:This letter presents a bandpass filter (BPF) based on a hybrid structure of quarter-mode substrate integrated waveguide (QMSIW) and coplanar waveguide (CPW). By incorporating two CPW resonators into two QMSIW resonators, the proposed filter obtains a high selectivity as the coupling between two CPW resonators is electric coupling, which helps to generate two transmission zeros. It also achieves compact layout as the embedded CPW resonators do not occupy extra area. In order to verify the design, a BPF with a center frequency of 8.7 GHz is fabricated and measured. The measured results show good agreement with the simulation results.

Abstract:A compact and high selectivity bandpass filter (BPF) consisting of parallel-coupled three-line (PCTL) units and shorted stubs is proposed using substrate integrated coaxial line (SICL) technology. Single via transitions are adopted to connect the BPF with the grounded coplanar waveguides (GCPWs). Moreover, an equivalent circuit model is built to understanding the properties of the BPF. Two transmission zeros (TZs) are created by the shorted stubs and the gap between the PCTL units. The locations of the TZs are closed to the passband edges of the proposed BPF as the gap capacitance increased and the electrical length of the shorted stubs decreased, so a compact size and high selectivity can be obtained. Finally, a BPF prototype is fabricated by PCB process and the results indicate that the proposed BPF centered at 25.9 GHz is realized with compact size of <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$0.42\lambda_{g}\times 0.28\lambda_{g}$</tex> and high selectivity factor of 0.554, where <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\lambda_{g}$</tex> is the wavelength at 25.9 GHz.

Abstract:A high efficiency and compact band-pass filter based on coplanar waveguide (CPW) is investigated in this paper, which lower and upper cut-off frequencies of the proposed filter can be tuned independently. In the proposed design, interdigital structure is used to filter the low frequency wave and a quasi-spoof surface plasmon polaritons (Q-SSPPs) structure is designed for tuning the higher cut-off frequency. The proposed Q-SSPPs structure contains only one cross-shaped element and keeps the similar properties of periodic SSPPs structure. The operating principle of the proposed design is explained by field distribution, dispersion curves, and equivalent circuits. The studies of vital parametric are carried out for better understanding the influences of the concerning parameters on the tunability. The simulated results indicate that the proposed design can obtain a wide bandwidth from 8.8 GHz to 17 GHz (about 63.6%) with high transmission efficiency ( $\vert S_{11}\vert < -15$ dB and $\vert S_{21}\vert > -0.2$ dB). A prototype of the proposed design is fabricated and the measured results show good agreement with the simulated ones.

Abstract:In this paper, a compact notched ultra-wideband (UWB) bandpass filter with improved out-of-band performance using quasi electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) structure is proposed. Firstly, a UWB bandpass filter based on a stepped-impedance stub-loaded resonator (SISLR) is combined with quasi-EBG structures, which suppress the undesired spurious bands to improve the out-of-band performance. In order to eliminate the interference caused by WLAN, a notched band is introduced at 5.2 GHz, which is implemented by adding a folded stepped-impedance resonator (SIR) near the stub of the SISLR. At last, the proposed filter is fabricated and measured. Good performances of the UWB filter have been demonstrated both in the simulated and measured results.

Abstract:This article proposed a codesign of a power amplifier (PA) and a bandpass filter (BPF) named filtering PA using metal integrated and substrate integrated suspended line (MI-SISL). Two BPFs are designed separately as the input and output matching network to realize bandpass filtering response and good harmonic suppression at the same time. The BPF matching circuits are implemented using SISL-based dual-layer interdigital capacitors for miniaturization and SISL-based dual-layer spiral inductors for low loss. The suspended substrate of the PA is patterned according to the shape of the PA core circuit, which helps to reduce the circuit loss and improve efficiency. Moreover, the metal integrated technique is also proposed by replacing the top and bottom substrates of the conventional SISL structure with metal plates with good electrical and thermal conductivities for heat dissipation. A filtering PA on the MI-SISL platform at 0.9 GHz is fabricated and measured as a demonstration case. An ultrasmall size of $0.12\,\,\lambda _{g} \times 0.07\,\,\lambda _{g}$ is achieved, where $\lambda _{g}$ is the guide wavelength at 0.9 GHz. To the best of our knowledge, this is the most compact filtering PA on the board level to date. In addition, a harmonic suppression level of 40 dBc in up to the fifth-harmonic frequency is achieved.

Abstract:In this article, we present a novel ultracompact plasmonic bandpass filter (BPF) based on a recently proposed concept of effective localized surface plasmons (ELSPs). By virtue of the insensitiveness of the ELSPs resonator's dipolar mode resonance frequency to the variations of its cross-sectional area and shape, we can significantly miniaturize the occupied area of the filter. Moreover, the unloaded quality factor of the ELSPs resonator can be flexibly tuned and adjusted to be much larger than that of conventional microstrip and substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) resonators. For demonstration, we design and implement two Sub-6G BPFs centered at 3.3 and 3.4 GHz with the size of only 0.006 and $0.021lambda _{0}^{2}$ . The measured in-band insertion loss (IL) and fractional bandwidth are 0.8 dB and 5.6% for the third-order BPF, and 0.7 dB and 5.9% for the fourth-order BPF, respectively. Excellent agreements between the measured and simulated results verify our design. The proposed ELSPs BPFs pave the way to realize ultracompact and high-performance functional devices for fifth-generation (5G) applications.

Abstract:This paper presents bandpass filter (BPF) comprising substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) and spoof surface plasmon polaritons (SSPPs), achieving miniaturized size, low insertion loss in the millimeter-wave band. SIW with single-slotted SSPP structure is employing to obtain the transmission zero (TZ) at the low-frequency part, and by introducing the SIW with rhombic periodic walls to enhance the low-frequency rejection. The target passband and TZ of the high-frequency part are realized by increasing the number of etching slots. Furthermore, we innovatively incorporate nonradiative (NR) slots etched below the SSPP structure to gain high out-of-band rejection level. SIW with rhombic periodic walls and slotted SSPP structure as one unit cell is analyzed and demonstrated. Ultimately, the two SIW unit cells are cascaded together to get better out-of-band rejection characteristics and serve as our final design. To validate the proposed design, the BPF prototype is fabricated and measured, showing good electrical performance in terms of high selectivity, low loss, and compact size.

Abstract:A compact ultra-wideband microwave bandpass filter (BPF) is presented using a electromagnetic band-gap (EBG) structure for the microwave application. As a EBG structure, two linear arrays of metallic vias are used to generate shunt inductors, and the first two resonators with SIR structure are coupling to create a ultra-wide passband exceeding 87% at its center frequency of 3.76 GHz. Its characteristics are analyzed in terms of transmission line mode to exhibit the prosperities of ultra-wideband passband.

Abstract:A compact bandpass filter exhibiting an ultra-wide out-of-band rejection is studied and developed. A combination of electromagnetic bandgap (EBG)-loaded half-mode substrate integrated waveguide (HMSIW) and composite right/left-handed (CRLH) HMSIW is used in this development. The proposed filter operates below the characteristic cutoff frequency of HMSIW. The CRLH HMSIW loaded with EBG structures is investigated first. The filter with a miniaturized size is then implemented with two slots etched on HMSIW to reduce coupling effects between EBG structures and interdigital capacitors. Defected microstrip structure (DMS) as feed lines are used to obtain an ultra-wide out-of-band rejection. Measured results show that this effective stopband can cover up to 10.3 times the design center frequency for a rejection level of 20 dB. The filter exhibits high selectivity, good stopband performance, and compact size.
