Abstract:We have found the root of the pseudo-spin symmetry to the Dirac equation. We found two kinds of conditions for the pseudo-spin approximation both for the case of the spherical potential and for the deformed potential.

Abstract:The pseudospin symmetry is systematically investigated by solving the Dirac equation with an (scalar and vector) Woods-Saxon potential. We find that the splittings of pseudospin energy and the lower component of pseudospin doublets are sensitive to the nuclear radius and the nuclear diffusivity, but to the depth of nuclear potential. The splitting of pseudospin energy with larger h or I is more sensitive to the values of the parameters. The energy level crossing is also found for some pseudospin partners with variation of the nuclear mean field. With the increasing of nuclear radius and nuclear diffusibility, the splitting of the lower component of pseudospin doublets diffuses toward the nuclear surface and reaches the largest value on the nuclear surface. The splitting of pseudospin doublets increases with increasing nuclear diffusibility but decreases with increasing nuclear radius and the depth of nuclear potential. Because the variations of the parameters R and V-0 are related with the number of nucleon and the characteristics of nuclear surface can be described by the parameter of diffusibility, the conclusions obtained are meaningful for analyzing nuclear properties.

Abstract:Relating the pseudospin symmetry back to the Dirac equation through the framework of relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov (RHB) theory, the pseudospin approximation in real nuclei is discussed. From the Dirac equation, the mechanism behind the pseudospin symmetry was studied and the pseudospin symmetry is shown to be connected with the competition between the centrifugal barrier (CB) and the pseudospin orbital potential (PSOP), which is mainly decided by the derivative of the difference between the scalar and vector potentials. With the scalar and vector potentials derived from a self-consistent relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov calculation, the pseudospin symmetry and its energy dependence in real nuclei is discussed.

Abstract:The origin of pseudospin symmetry (PSS) and its breaking mechanism are explored by combining supersymmetry (SUSY) quantum mechanics, perturbation theory, and the similarity renormalization group (SRG) method. The Schrodinger equation is taken as an example, corresponding to the lowest-order approximation in transforming a Dirac equation into a diagonal form by using the SRG. It is shown that while the spin-symmetry-conserving term appears in the single-particle Hamiltonian H, the PSS-conserving term appears naturally in its SUSY partner Hamiltonian (H) over tilde. The eigenstates of Hamiltonians H and (H) over tilde are exactly one-to-one identical except for the so-called intruder states. In such a way, the origin of PSS deeply hidden in H can be traced in its SUSY partner Hamiltonian (H) over tilde. The perturbative nature of PSS in the present potential without a spin-orbit term is demonstrated by the perturbation calculations, and the PSS-breaking term can be regarded as a very small perturbation on the exact PSS limits. Abstract:The exact pseudospin symmetry solutions of Dirac equation with position-dependent mass (PDM) Coulomb potential in the presence of Colulomb-like tensor potential are obtained by using Laplace transform (LT) approach. The energy eigenvalue equation of the Dirac particles is found and some numerical results are given. By using Laplace convolution integral, the corresponding radial wave functions are presented in terms of confluent hypergeometric functions.

Abstract:We discuss spin and pseudo-spin symmetry in the spectrum of single nucleons and single anti-nucleons in a nucleus. As an example we use relativistic mean field theory to investigate single anti-nucleon spectra. We find a very well developed spin symmetry in single anti-neutron and single anti-proton spectra. The dominant components of the wave functions of the spin doublet are almost identical. This spin symmetry in anti-particle spectra and the pseudo-spin symmetry in particle spectra have the same origin. However it turns out that the spin symmetry in anti-nucleon spectra is much better developed than the pseudo-spin symmetry in normal nuclear single particle spectra.

Abstract:Pseudospin symmetry is a relativistic symmetry of the Dirac Hamiltonian with scalar and vector mean fields equal and opposite in sign. This symmetry imposes constraints on the Dirac eigenfunctions. We examine extensively the Dirac eigenfunctions of realistic relativistic mean field calculations of deformed nuclei to determine if these eigenfunctions satisfy these pseudospin symmetry constraints.

When the sum of the vector and scalar potentials is a constant, there will be an exact pseudospin degeneracy and even the usual intruder orbits will have degenerate partners. For real nuclei, the pseudospin symmetry is approximate, and the partners of the usual intruder orbits will disappear. The reason behind this is the contribution of the pseudo spin-orbit potential.

Abstract:Based on the Relativistic continuum Hartree-Bogoliubov (RCHB) theory, the pseudo-spin approximation in exotic nuclei is investigated in Zr and Sn isotopes from the proton drip line to the neutron drip line. The quality of the pseudo-spin approximation is shown to be connected with the competition between the centrifugal barrier (CB) and the pseudo-spin orbital potential (PSOP). The PSOP depends on the derivative of the difference between the scalar and vector potentials $dV/dr$. If $dV/dr = 0$, the pseudo-spin symmetry is exact. The pseudo-spin symmetry is found to be a good approximation for normal nuclei and to become much better for exotic nuclei with highly diffuse potential, which have $dV/dr \sim 0$. The energy splitting of the pseudo-spin partners is smaller for orbitals near the Fermi surface (even in the continuum) than the deeply bound orbitals. The lower components of the Dirac wave functions for the pseudo-spin partners are very similar and almost equal in magnitude.

Abstract:Following a previous paper [Haozhao Liang \textit{et al.}, Phys. Rev. C \textbf{87}, 014334 (2013)], we discuss the spin-orbit effects on the pseudospin symmetry (PSS) within the framework of supersymmetric quantum mechanics. By using the perturbation theory, we demonstrate that the perturbative nature of PSS maintains when a substantial spin-orbit potential is included. With the explicit PSS-breaking potential, the spin-orbit effects on the pseudospin-orbit splittings are investigated in a quantitative way.

The pseudospin breaking and spin breaking are shown in correlation with nuclear mean field. The square well radius plays an important role in the splittings of energy and wavefunction. The dependence of splittings with quantum numbers is also analyzed.

Abstract:The origin of pseudospin symmetry and its broken in real nuclei are discussed in the relativistic mean field theory. In the exact pseudospin symmetry, even the usual intruder orbits have degenerate partners. In real nuclei, pseudospin symme- try is approximate, and the partners of the usual intruder orbits will disappear. The difference is mainly due to the pseudo spin-orbit potential and the transition between them is discussed in details. The contribution of pseudospin-orbit potential for intruder orbits is quite large, compared with that for pseudospin doublets. The disappearance of the pseu- dospin partner for the intruder orbit can be understood from the properties of its wave function.

Abstract:We have discussed the Dirac equation in the Schwarzschild spacetime via pseudo-supersymmetric quantum mechanics and obtained the partner Hamiltonain of the initial Hamiltonian operator. We have shown that partner metric tensors of the corresponding Hamiltonians can be obtained through the intertwining relations of pseudo-supersymmetric approaches. Moreover, approximate solutions of the radial part are obtained within N = 2 supersymmetry and radial potential graphs are given, then, quasinormal modes are discussed in the limit of r → ±∞.

Abstract:Symmetry plays a fundamental role in physics. The quasi-degeneracy between single-particle orbitals $(n, l, j = l + 1/2)$ and $(n-1, l + 2, j = l + 3/2)$ indicates a hidden symmetry in atomic nuclei, the so-called pseudospin symmetry (PSS). Since the introduction of the concept of PSS in atomic nuclei, there have been comprehensive efforts to understand its origin. Both splittings of spin doublets and pseudospin doublets play critical roles in the evolution of magic numbers in exotic nuclei discovered by modern spectroscopic studies with radioactive ion beam facilities. Since the PSS was recognized as a relativistic symmetry in 1990s, many special features, including the spin symmetry (SS) for anti-nucleon, and many new concepts have been introduced. In the present Review, we focus on the recent progress on the PSS and SS in various systems and potentials, including extensions of the PSS study from stable to exotic nuclei, from non-confining to confining potentials, from local to non-local potentials, from central to tensor potentials, from bound to resonant states, from nucleon to anti-nucleon spectra, from nucleon to hyperon spectra, and from spherical to deformed nuclei. Open issues in this field are also discussed in detail, including the perturbative nature, the supersymmetric representation with similarity renormalization group, and the puzzle of intruder states.

Abstract:The pseudospin symmetry(PSS) limits which conserve substantial spin-orbit splitting are investigated.It is found that while the strength of the spin-orbit potential as well as the spin-orbit splitting increase,the pseudospin doublets,e.g.,2p3/2 and 1f5/2 states,are always degenerate.Furthermore,by examining the perturbation corrections to the single-particle energies,the perturbative nature of the proposed PSS limits is also discussed.

Abstract:The planar dynamics of spin-1/2 quantum relativistic particles is important for several physical systems. In this paper we derive, by a simple method, the generators for the continuous symmetries of the 3+1 Dirac equation for planar motion, when there is circular symmetry, i.e., the interactions depend only on the radial coordinate. We consider a general set of potentials with different Lorentz structures. These generators allow for several minimal complete sets of commuting observables and their corresponding quantum numbers. We show how they can be used to label the general eigenspinors for this problem. We also derive the generators of the spin and pseudospin symmetries for this planar Dirac problem, which arise when the vector and scalar potentials have the same magnitude and tensor potential and the space components of the four-vector potential are absent. We investigate the associated energy degeneracies and compare them to the known degeneracies in the spherically symmetric 3+1 Dirac equation.

Abstract:Pseudospin symmetry in nuclei is investigated by solving the Dirac equation with Woods-Saxon scalar and vector radial potentials. We relate the pseudospin interaction with a pseudospin-orbit term in a Schroedinger-like equation for the lower component of the Dirac spinor. We show that this term gives a large contribution to the energy splittings of pseudospin partners, so that the near pseudospin degeneracy arises from a significant cancellation among the different terms in that equation. This is a manifestation of the dynamical character of this symmetry in the nucleus. We analyze the isospin dependence of the pseudospin symmetry in a nuclear isotope chain by including a vector-isovector potential V_rho and a Coulomb potential and conclude that V_rho gives the main contribution to the observed pseudospin isospin asymmetry.

Abstract:Pseudospin symmetry (PSS) is a relativistic dynamical symmetry connected with the lower component of the Dirac spinor. Here, we investigate the conservation and breaking of PSS in the single-nucleon resonant states, as an example, using Green's function method that provides a novel way to precisely describe not only the resonant energies and widths but also the spacial density distributions for both narrow and wide resonances. The PSS restoration and breaking are perfectly displayed in the evolution of resonant parameters and density distributions with the potential depth: In the PSS limit, i.e., when the attractive scalar and repulsive vector potentials have the same magnitude but opposite sign, PSS is exactly conserved with strictly the same energy and width between the PS partners as well as identical density distributions of the lower components. As the potential depth increases, the PSS is broken gradually with energy and width splittings and a phase shift in the density distributions.

Abstract:Pseudospin symmetry and spin symmetry in the relativistic harmonic oscillator are investigated systematically by solving the Dirac equation with scalar and vector potentials and are found to be a good approximation in realistic nuclei such as 208Pb. The pseudospin breaking and spin breaking are shown in correlation with nuclear mean field. The harmonic oscillator frequency and the distance of well-bottom deviation from the center of the potential play an important role in the splittings of energy and wavefunction.
